Quick tangent here:
I fully understand that being an OT in a 24 man raid is about as useful as a third nipple, but the few times where we ACTUALLY do things like tanking adds, I swear no one pays us any attention. Here I am taking an ass whooping, health slowly dipping into the red, Living dead that shit, still no heals, boom dead. Meanwhile both healers are in CS goin ham on the boss and I'm sitting there wondering why I'm being punished for doing what little job I have to do. Damn it all!

Pretty sure this has been said in the previous 900 + pages, but caster's who use a LB on a single boss ... when a melee DPS is in the group. Even worse when they do it when the boss is at 100% health.

Unless a boss has a mechanic that saving an LB for would actually be beneficial like the second set of adds in Sohm Al HM, why does it matter when the LB is used on the last boss? Its very easy to make the argument that using the LB as a finishing move is a waste of an LB and DPS. If the boss has 10K HP left and the LB does 15K then you've just wasted 5K damage; damage that could have been dealt earlier and actually shortened the fight.Quote:

"Quick" 60 roulette to get some script and lore before I logged off. I was WHM. Antitower. 2 new dps. Smn with all 180 & 230 gear, MNK with...level 58 gear and 2 Garo pieces.Okay it might be a little slower because dat 58 gear.
That first tiny pull I spammed Holy until I was OOM and it still wasn't dead yet??? This legitimately surprised me. I waited a good 30 seconds while my MP recovered for them to finally die. I decided to slow my dps a little just to observe the DPS. Every pull the SMN used Bane Painflare Tri disastor spam ruin 3 until no mp then spam ruin 2....in that order. Never even got 3 stacks to enter Dreadwyrm. Repeat until first boss. Which took 8 long minutes. The tank said one thing to the SMN but it was ignored and we continued on.
Oh right the MNK wasn't anything, no positionals but he actually kept up greased lightning III so I guess it was passable and he was outdamaging the SMN 100% of the time, even on AOEs...with his level 58 fists. He was doing well enough, his gear was just yucky.
Anyway this SMN did that exact 5 button combo on every single mob and boss for the entire run. His moveset consisted of Bane Painflare Tri disastor(sometimes) Ruin 3/2 spam. I was in disbelief... I barely DPSd at all from 1st to 2nd boss & I went HAM for about the first 30 seconds of Ziggy and then stopped like a bad bc I was actually curious how long it would take....7 minutes btw. The DPS couldn't kill the rocks either so we almost died a lot while I was being a bad(but hey no one died). At that point the Tank seemed upset with me for not attacking so I apologized and went HAM for the rest of the run...And ended on around 29 minutes. At the end I noticed the SMN stood there spamming ruin 2 when Calcabrina used barrier...just repeatedly and it kept refllecting almost killing him. That actually made me wonder if it was a bot or something <.<
Antitower....29 minutes with me barely DPSing and always outdamaging the SMN on every mob with a single Assize, whether I DPSd that mob or not. Of the 100s of times I have been there since it released in 3.2, that was actually the worst. It upset me that a player could be that awful & it isn't even SEs fault really. They used 5 skills. FIVE. They really don't understand the concept of party based gameplay(says me the hypocrite who stopped DPSing out of curiosity and made the run a good 5~10 minutes longer).
I contemplated saying something to the SMN when I noticed this and decided to go for it but after I typed it out I stopped myself because after reading about all the things where people get kicked for advice and my own experience, I was scared that they may kick me and I really just wanted to do this duty and log off so i just backspaced it...lol. -

I've seen a few smns like that in expert roulette. 5 mobs or more.. no shadow flare, no blizz2 just ruin 1 or ruin 3 spam until tridisaster is available then they'll bane.

So, apologies to a party I was in last week for Quarn hard mode. I had just gotten back from getting three teeth pulled at the dentists, and figured "Eh, I don't feel too bad, I'll go ahead and tank some stuff." Thing is, the anesthetic just hadn't worn off yet. Around the first boss I started to hurt, so I had them wait for a second as I took the painkillers I was prescribed. Thing is, painkillers take a while to kick in! So, I'm back to tanking and all the while my mouth is just hurting worse and worse. I start thinking I accidentally got a dry socket (something I was warned could happen if a clot came out), by the time we hit the final boss I was using the gauze less to control the bleeding (which was fine at the time) and more just to have something to bite down on and scream. I don't think I've ever left a dungeon so quickly after completion.

If they respond, after you come back after a few minutes, explain to the SMN the tank was giving them advice and really needs to follow it otherwise it makes the runs slow and what not. So Expert Roulette popped for me at around 8 PM Eorzea time, when I had a node at 3 AM that I really wanted to get. But, given the timing, I really wasn't expecting to be able to clear the dungeon in time.
Sohm Al Hard. The party consists of DRK, WHM, SMN, and BLM. I have honestly never seen the packs in there melt so fast. Props to the DRK, who despite having squishy ilvl 230 gear, did big pulls without having to be prodded. And we killed the Lava Scorpion at 2:30 ET.
I pretty much had to leave ASAP in order to make it to my node, but damn, thanks so much to that party, you guys were great. -

My first time there. We get to the first boss. I kill my add well enough, but the NIN wasn't really paying attention and focuses on the boss leaving the other add. We wipe. Tank gets upset with the DPS's and says we're not doing our jobs. 2nd fight goes exactly the same.
By this point, NIN tunes back in and apologizes for getting distracted. He was reminiscing with his FC about FF11. A vote kick is initiated. Presumably by the tank. Reason: AFK. I'm in a patient mood so I vote no. Apparently so does the healer as the vote did not go through. I speak up and say that I miss FF11 too, but right now we just need to focus. We beat the boss no problem.
After we land the killing blow, I strike up a conversation about FF11 and that's all me and the NIN are talking about during trash. The other two bosses go smoothly and in 1 shot. At the end, I didn't feel the NIN earned my comm because he still made a mistake twice at the beginning. Instead went to the healer who silently stood up for the NIN. -

Hoo boy so I got matched with a drk...yeah that kinda drk the one that doesn't use Darkside, or any tank cool downs, who has 142 parry in their relic weapon, and all Grade V Parry in their right side. Max level drk that I got while running Qarn HM had allll of that, so me being a drk main I ask "hey, can you use Dark Side?". Nothing. I kept trying to communicate with them over and over and all I got was silence it's so aggravating trying to give pointers and you get nothing but silence.
I just don't get how people can invest this much time into their characters and not get the basics, they were struggling with hate as they didn't have Darkside up so i'd pull aggro with Holy. Again and again I told them "can you please use Darkside" in auto translate, with a <se.X> as well just nothing but that golden silence in a dungeon.
I tried my best because I really want to know what that drk was thinking and wanted their take on why they put parry on everything, maybe have a good conversation and give them insight on how to play a tank but if they haven't gotten it at 60 with multiple 270 shire pieces/Proto ultima pieces I don't think they will. DF surprises me everyday and today was just mind blowing that there are players like this, gonna go jump into a river or something because I can't even. -

So, speaking of which, this morning I was on my alt and decided to heal level 60 roulette and leveling roulette. I don't know if it's a DRK thing or not, but they seem to either be allergic to darkside or they really don't know how to play the class at all, just using it for the edginess. I mainly play SCH for roulettes because I'm tired of healers that won't DPS at all, so this way I can force the runs to go faster but this morning...
For level 60, I get Lost City of Amdapor (Hard) and they tank starts doing small pulls. So, I notice we have a BRD and a SMN, and I'm very confident about my healing skills. With that being said, I politely ask the tank if he can pull more so he starts doing so. What was the problem? Well, this tank in particular had a huuuuge issue with his MP management, so he didn't have enough MP to unleash the trash mobs. The mobs were scattered around, attacking both the DPS and me alike, I even got the "slow" debuff crippling my healing speed. I was unable to remove it because people were taking lots of damage, I kinda panicked there. The tank also didn't use any cd at all (Your daily DF tank) so we wipe.
The tank calls me out "Were you saying? Why am I dead?". I'm very patient, rarely call people out in dungeons, I mostly judge them in silence until I complete the duty then commendate accordingly or not commendate at all. However, this guy got on my nerves and had to tell him that he had a very bad MP management, he should use cooldowns because the tanks clearly have them for a reason and he should learn how to stack trash mobs. He only replies "K", and the run continues. Small pulls from there. At the end of the run, I got 2 player comms. -.-
For Leveling Roulette, I get... omg, I've been getting this a lot lately... I got Dusk Vigil. I'm on SCH, I summon Selene and I get a DRK again. The DPS were a MNK and a MCH. This DRK... Yes, she was allergic to darkside, crippling their mitigation capabilities. I ask why she wasn't using it, but I get no response at all. So, this tank in particular starts doing big pulls. The ONLY cd she used was Shadowskin and Darkdance, NOTHING ELSE, and they also were poorly used. Darkdance on the ice sprites, for example. Good luck mitigating their magic damage with your parry. The first wipe was in the room after the mammoth boss. The tank decided to mass pull everything until she reached the locked door. Things were NOT dying! (Actually, they were but extremely slowly), I run out of MP, because she wasn't using cds and not getting positioned correctly (Showing the mobs her back, disabling their passive parry completely). She was taking soooo much damage. Welp, we died.
Again, I call the tank out about doing big pulls, they are not worth it, we don't have the DPS for it as it was obviously proven. The tank ignores me and she keeps pulling more and more. So I summon Eos to get some healing carry and DPS whenever I was able to because man, this tank was taking THE damage. Granted, everything hits really hard in this dungeon, but the tank made it way harder with their poor performance. No commendations at the end. -

Just did a roulette into Baelsar's Wall.
I had a feeling it was going to be a grind when we just scraped by through the first pack of trash mobs.
Then at the first boss, we wiped several times because we couldn't kill the adds fast enough.
Mainly i think it was just a mix of minimum iLvL players and first timers to the place made it tough.
But we kept fighting through.
And that's where this addition to this topic shines a bit brighter,
Because no one even once complained. Not then and not after we wiped a few more times on the second boss.
Not even when we wiped a few times on the last boss and the tank had to leave.
Major thanks to the rep tank (Mentor) that came in from Novice Network.
Of course with 10 minutes left i chose that time to get sticky jumbly fingers with Cleric stance and wipe the party. xD
But we had enough time left for one more go and finally nailed it with seconds to spare.
Felt good.
Come to think of it, i've been rolling into groups that just scraped by all day. xD
And not once was anyone ever toxic about it. The sprouts i rolled into on Cutter's Cry earlier were loving it.
So laugh? Cry? Smile? I dunno, you decide.
But none of it was even once toxic. :) -

To the very first trash mobs. Okay, happens - I ask the healer to stand behind me and not to pull anything. No one says a word and I'm praying now that they even understood what I'm saying (they're all french, but I dont speak that language). We go back to the keyroom, I tell the healer that if they want to help dps they might aswell use cleric stance. No reaction.
We progress to the room with the first locked door - and when I say "we" I only mean me and the dps because the healer wanders off on their own again to explore a different room. When he finally reaches us I've got 1/3 of my HP left but instead of starting to throw me a few Cures they cast Stone II again (and again outside of Cleric Stance ofc). Infact this healer casts nothing but Stone II (and the protect at the start). I die. To the third trash mob pull in Haukke NM.
At this point I ask the two dps to try and approach the healer in french - still no reaction from that guy though. This is 15 minutes in the dungeon and there has be no sign whatsoever that the healer is willing or able to communicate with us or even just listen to our advise - I do what I always do in those situations: I tell them that I want a response now or I will assume they're a bot and kick and report them. We wait two minutes and the only thing that happens is that the healer runs off to cast Stone II on some more mobs.
So I fill that report, we kick the healer and I ask a friend to heal the rest of the dungeon for us.
We were able to give the bard some tips (please use your dots! They're important!) and all in all it turned out a really nice run.
If that conjurer wasnt a bot (or a troll), I hope they'll never get passed Haukke... -

I ran Alexander creator for a Fc Mate who hadn't been in it before so 6 of us group up and go in with an open tank and dps spot. We got a pug PLD in a12n. Dude pulled while we were explaining to our fc member the mechanics and didn't say anything. I asked him if he knew what to do for the fight and he didn't say a word. Didn't even try to LB for Alexander's ultimate (luckily our tank was on the ball). He got hit by every sacrament so our tank took Alexander because it was clear he didn't know what he was doing. PLD kept trying to take Alex back, causing him to swivel towards us every 40 seconds (it's a miracle we didn't get cleaved). He also tried to go into timegates when no one was dead. We finish the fight and he gets the same achievement that our newbie did-so this really is his first time in the fight. Then he says some really incoherent sentence about how if he was new then he would've said that he was new, that he knew what he was doing and that we should stop complaining.

Every second DRK I met, in EX or otherwise, either could not keep up DS due to MP management, or didn't even try. Try to offer help or ask why they don't use it: instant hostility. Not really a specific story, but the tank really irritates me when they take 30s to a minute to get ready, and then start a ridiculously long countdown while I'm trying to time my mudra's cooldowns to be available during the initial pull for trick attack, so I developed a new habit of throwing shadewalker on the MT and then pulling myself if they take forever instead of waiting on the tank.
I used to wait, but some people are just so slow it's annoying. -

She was SCH for that one, and I joined in progress, apparently one of their DPS were doing so hot, she was coaching a BLM who was fairly new too, but after I jumped in we just destroyed the trash mobs floor to floor. Another good tank in that one. -

Just got out of a sort of awesome SephNM. Both healers were dead after the adds. There were no SMN so I kind of wrote off this run in the back of my head. Kept going, the other three DPS died and was just me the NIN and two PLD and Seph was still over 30% health. Towers and Daat happened and I was marked for Earthshakers. Shadespin and Second Wind were on cooldown. Thought for sure I was dead before noticing I was topped off. The PLDs were keeping myself and them alive with Clemency. And the three off of us had like the smoothest run. It was pretty fun all things considered. Fill a little bad for the tanks cause I got five comms.

Did expert, got into the Wall. Sang FoeReq as often as possible, because the blm was destroying things and (inadvertently) yanking aggro. We get to the end...and I got all three comms.
Not a premade - and boy did that surprise me. Feels good, though. -

I ran a Sohm Al hard a few hours ago on AST with a Bard who was playing Foe's Requiem. It wasn't until after the first boss that I clued in to the fact that the tank was a PLD and the other DPS was a MNK. I guess that bard noticed that I was Gravity-ing my little heart out on the trash and maintaining dots on the boss and played it just for me. I wanted to hug them.

To all Warrior as off tank. Please, stop spamming Butcher Block combo on bosses. Use it only if you have enough aggro margin or you're the main tank. You're obliging Main tanks to go Tank stance or use aggro combo. Then you complain "because the DRK don't drop grit" or PLD don't use Sword Oath. Rotate Storm path/Storm Eye. It is the best party wise.

I don't claim to be any sort of adept at WAR, but isn't Butcher's Block a WAR's most potent combo? Usually when I'm OT (since I only really play WAR in trials or 8-man settings), I rotate between Storm's Eye for the slashing debuff and Butcher's Block. I'm not sure if this is the best practice, so WAR mains, feel free to enlighten me. However, I've never really riped aggro from any MTs I've been paired with.
I had a great Leveling Roulette and 50 Roulette group yesterday. Rolled PLD, got Aurum Vale for leveling. Had a semi-nervous healer new to AST, so I pulled to their comfort level, and ate fruits at 2 stacks since they were more comfortable with that as opposed to more. For 50 I got Brayflox HM. Did large pulls, healer kept up and DPS'd, trash was just melting like butter in a hot pan. It was amazing. Glad for some good DF experiences for once. -

BB is the highest potency, but it also has extra threat generation (more so than either rage of halone combo and whatever DRK's is). Assuming both tanks aren't in tank stance and the WAR isn't main tanking, it can make it very difficult to hold hate, even if you're rotating BB with Storm's EyeQuote:
