To be fair even if we got a full FF12 themed raid, would it even feature any of the races that heavily? I would assume it to either focus on the Occuria, the Archadians or the Espers, none of which would really feature the Viera as they barely even feature in 12 apart from one player character.

This thread is been going on for such a LONG .... LONG time that it's clear that the mods/admins are still keeping an eye on it to see the demand for Viera race. And it seems to me by not giving us an answer about it we might still have a chance to see it incorporated in game in the future.

I do wonder what class the Japanese side are wanting to have in game

That is my exact point. EVEN if it was a FF12 raid we shouldn't expect the races to feature heavily, the fact that it is a FFT raid just adds extra weight. I've already stated it, but my speculation is an ascian focused raid that explores the scions of light and darkness (which has no basis, and I treat it as such, but has more weight than Viera considering the parallels the ascians of eorzea have with Ivalice).

Just adding my daily dosage of Viera love. Also while everyone is focusing on the Viera from FFXII being in XIV, we may just be getting a version of Viera-like races made just for XIV since its a different universe. I'm open to both possibilities though. Anyways, WOOT VIERA!!!

I'd really rather have a proper race. We already have miqo'te and this would be just more of the same. I want a proper beast-like race or something properly rough looking, like how the Au'ra were originally depicted. Now that would be awesome.

Having just some bunny race seems like such a dull and uninteresting option to take. Imagine having a Lamian for example, now that would be wild and interesting and unexpected. It would be entirely different and not just some human-like race with bunny ears

As in your Elf-like Au Ra character? Just request another race in another thread, maybe bermucians?...... bermecians? .....can't remember the name of em. Also wouldn't Lamia's be legless? I think they'd have to create a whole new armor set just for them, not that I'm against that anyway :/

They'd just have to change the way legs/feet slots apply to their models, which is not so difficult a concept. WoW does it with feet slots for certain races for example (trolls and Draenei and Tauren) because they have hooves or different feet and legs.

And yes i'd not play an Au'ra if they implemented a race like this.

I doubt they'd do a race that was more beast than human as it would mean more work when designing armor. They already have au ra horns just stick out of helms and hoods rather them making the model built around them or design them to look like they were made with the horns in mind. So thinking that they'd be willing to make unique bottom armor is wishful thinking. They already say making models for the races we already have is a lot of work so any new races we may get will be similair to the races we have so humanoid.

It usually goes on for a long time because someone who wants Viera (be it someone who is actually new posting in the thread, or it's the same usual people bumping it for one reason or another) posts in it, or it's me or someone else responding to someone who thinks the Ivalice raid is going to be all about Viera (because that's apparently all Ivalice was about. Never mind the political plots, esper lore, etc). I make sure to not post in this thread if it hits the third page or lower, even if it's to respond to wild claims.

I've exhausted this argument enough times, but I haven't repeated it lately so... Au Ra overall are a good enough example for us to use to see how unlikely Viera will keep their concept art look (humans with rabbit ears clipping through hats will be the end result. They might even be shorter since their feet will be flat). Also as a reminder, Viera are considered to be concept art for the Au Ra (says so in the art book).

I'm not in this thread to argue with anyone about who wants what. To be honest I couldn't careless. I'm just here to show my support cause at the end of the day that's the point of this thread.

I believe this is not the only Viera thread in this subforum there are others lengthy enough too I think. The demand is reasonably big for this specific race

Just roll an elezen and get the bunny outfit. It's basically the same as what you're asking for. For any new race we get I would say that something different to what we have now would be better.

You're not wrong in that there were a lot of Viera request threads back when, but even they had the usual back and forth of "Viera plz!" and "no, something else!" arguments and usually amongst the same people (so thread size can't be used as an example of demand). Currently, I still feel the demand for Viera is reasonably low. Incredibly lower than the demand for an expansion on character customisation, anyway.

It's easy to say that to players that play female but for those of us who play male or want to that's not an available solution. Also none of the races we have currently really captures the viera's aesthetic.

That's some amazing leap in logic. With the same amount of evidence, I could just as easily say "the mod team are ignoring this thread and only keep it open to avoid flooding the forums with a hundred similar topics. And any suggestion thread they don't respond to means they're considering it!"

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I feel like far too many people in this thread are grasping at straws. Just...keep your expectations in check because if they do announce a new race and it isn't Viera, methinks heads will explode.

I just don't understand the Viera hate. "Just a re-skin of current races." "Tired of same old same old." To say nothing of the out right vitriol by some of those more vocal against their implementation (What did they ever do to you guys? You guys POW's of a long forgotten oppressive Viera crusade?). I feel there is a distinct reason for it, what some see as "Not unique enough." I see as consistent.

Very few times has a player race in any FF title, ever broken the mold. Nearly all are feminine (sometimes effeminate) protagonist that the series as a whole is known for.

I'm not certain what rabbits or bunny people in general may have done to some individuals to illicit such opposition, nor do i understand why their implementation would lead to the universe ending, however i feel people who claim resources are better spent elsewhere need to to remember.

Diadem was rolled out twice over, we got Lords of Verminion, and Triple Triad/ battle hall is only moderately entertaining (something i only use for lore and the occasional MGP grind)

I want more character creation options (some races need more face options, facial hair, AuRa horn options, ect...), sub races in the current roster would be great (Half Elezen, Eastern Roegadyn, other AuRA tribes), however with all that i still want Viera as it's own race more reminiscent of FFXII.

The oft used AuRa/ Viera concept art captured them perfectly. I do not see an issue with them being introduced to Hydalen. Whether from a pocket space hidden in the Twelves Wood (FFVI Espers-FFXII Viera), or from another region of Hydalen, their implementation would be most welcome by those not afflicted with combinations of Viera and night terrors.

So far I've just changed Roegadyn clans/genders), but then we got something that's not at all that different from what we have now. The current six races we have are boring (even Roegadyn), all being a different flavour of human (Lalafell being potato flavoured) with maybe one or two interesting things about them. Viera will be exactly the same. Human with rabbit ears and nothing else unique (aside from faces, but that's to be expected... though I expect their faces to be roughly similar to Midlander/Highlanders).

The transition from concept to in-game model will be exactly the same as it was for Au Ra. Awesome dragon/demon race in concept, edgelord males and waifu girls in game. Neat looking rabbit person with rabbit feet in concept, boring human with rabbit ears and flat human feet in game (they will not look as they do in XII).

And what you find boring is what i see as consistent, It all fits together just like many FF titles have before it. This in turn helps immerse the player in the world as it is understood, with in the spoken races certain guide lines are clearly defined. While the Beastmen races show nearly as much sentience as our own they are (i feel) polarized to certain emotions, vices, and themes, only a few being less so and thus being slightly (ironically) more human.

In looking at games that did give me those diverse race option like Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, WildStar, having played them before, i never felt the connect nor the appeal of the options before me.

A narrative only highlighted by facial animations, cohesive visual representation of major characters to well scripted story elements, and over all setting (particularly in references to other FF titles) that help tie together three decades of of series very near & dear to me. I know what to expect from an FF title, it's why i pay a sub for game in a genre many claim is dead, why i stuck around through 1.0, why im willing to pay and play until the servers die again. What you call boring i want more of, subtle as it may be.

It's not like i think this dev team can do no wrong (SAM should have been a Tank, you DPS enjoy your jobs and que times...), it's not that continued stupidity should be validated (seriously look at Lov, Diadem and Battlehall, for resources spent moronically), quite simply the "vocal minority" as it has been termed here is not as small as many make it out to be. This is something wanted since FFXI, Viera don't have to look exactly like the concept art or FFXII for that mater. Again i simply want what was in that oft shown concept art or as close approximation to it as possible.

I can see a Viera NPC in the Ivalice content, a guide to show us something "new" and just discovered. Possibly something bridging Hydalen and FFXII world (Ivalice?)

So what about FFXI and its diverse race options as well as its narrative?
Galka being more beastly in appearance (the tail helps) and Mithra being more cat-like in appearance.

What about it? I played that game for a decade and have friends that followed to FFXIV. However more beastly i was happy with the better proportions of Roegadyn over Galka as well female variants. As for Miqo 'te vs that one Mithra short white hair 95% of the player base picked i have little care about. I enjoyed the Elvaan and Hyur models myself, though i am happier that once more the proportions are better this time around.

You have to recall, even then the developers knew less human like led to less ability to properly convey the narrative of FFXI. Diversity is never a bad thing but the uncanny valley is not a term i made up.

Works as a response to why I find different flavours of humans boring.

I have to give this a "meh"... The tall skinny ones just look like they had awkward ears stapled to their heads. The short ones look a little better, but still kind of awkward. My main is a Miq, and if they had gone a little more feline in the face I wouldn't have been against it. The bunny ears would need more bunny like heads to feel less like they are wearing a costume. I guess I stand with the group saying if you are going to make a new race make it something different. ...and I do like the Sylvari or whatever they are called in GW2. Some of those look awesome.

I see a lot of people in this thread saying 'They're just Miq'ote with bunny ears'. I would hope not. I see the Viera as an opportunity to get a vastly different body shape in game. Something tall, statuesque, and curvaceous. A warrior woman that isn't gangly like the Elezen or too angular like the femRoe and that seems to be what a lot of other folks are asking for too. I'm not a fan of the female Miq in shape (one of the few races in the game I haven't played). So I hope that they add the Viera (both types for different clans) and I hope I finally get the chance to be the tall curvy lady I always wanted. Otherwise I'll just keep going femRoe and wishing she was just...a little less masculine.

It's not a response. It's a statement as to why "More of the same" would not be the tragedy some feel it is. What i pay for and continue playing the game for is the continued quality of the existing races and those of similar form in the telling of that narrative.

Some hate the Waifu look of female characters, that's fair it's what was brought over from FFXI. The teen edge to much from the guys side? Yeah sometimes ( i hate little kid main characters so it helps i get to look like an adult as a Highlander) i really hate some of the style we get (Scion quest reward gear looks like something my 13 would wear to school), however the options i have for my avatar are acceptable.

The series as a whole has never been one to give players the option of more bestial characters (eh.. i guess chocobo dungeon works right?). Expecting that option from them is basically playing a mmorpg when in the mood for a first person shooter. In the end finding yourself bored with the games races/ setting is an issue you have to contend with/ justify paying for.

To some extent. When it comes to main protagonists, it's usually exclusively human, but for party members... FFVI (Moogles and Yeti), FFVII (Red XIII), FFIX (Freya and I guess Quina maybe probably?), FFX (Kimahri and Aeons) and FFXI (been over this). If we include spin-offs as well, then Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (Bangaa, Nu Mou, Moogles, Seeq and Revgaji) and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (Yukes). With bestial races, or something that's more than just a human with animal bits glued on (take the Revgaji and Yukes, for example. Mostly the Yukes, since Cid from FFTA2 could arguably be compared to a Roegadyn) being playable... it makes the world feel a little more diverse and fantasy-like.

I'd also settle for true Beastman glamour and drop the entire thing against Viera, but that's probably going to be as likely as me winning the Cactpot.

I'm pro-viera and pro-more character options. I did mention before that more character customization and viera don't necessarily need to both be implemented at the same time. I'll be very happy if we get viera in the future, and would be willing to wait for it.

Races in MMOs, and especially in FFXIV, are most times a non factor when it comes to story and gameplay, so the only really determining factor are the aesthetics. Again, this goes even more for FFXIV where origin is based for example per class starter zones instead of race starter zones and there are no racial bonuses or skills. That's one view. An opposing view would be that they should create a race that aesthetically appeals to as many players as possible, so as to avoid wasting their time and resources. If only 5% of the player-base would roll a wolfman or a tigerman or a manbearpig, is it -worth- the time and resources used to create that race as a playable race? How does one quantify whether or not a race is successful anyways? Polls from before Heavensward launched didn't even show the Au Ra related option as being nearby as popular as Half-Breeds, Viera, or 3rd options for existing races. Square decided to go with Au Ra anyways, and while Au Ra females are immensely popular, their male counterparts are sorely underplayed.

Analyze that data above and the data you can gather from other playable races and their populations along the male and female divide and you begin to notice a trend; the majority of the playerbase seems to enjoy the small waifu females, and pretty-boy males. To say that female characters are dominated by the Midlander, Au Ra, and Miqo'te options would not be a fallacy, nor would it be a fallacy to say that for male characters the bulk fall into Miqo'te and Midlanders. That isn't to say other races don't have a healthy population among players, but its clear which are the popular races and why.

So which is it more profitable for Square to do? Create a beastman playable race that only 5% of the playerbase will go near? Or create Bunny Girl Waifus and their Pretty Boi Husbandos?

Square certainly would have access to actual data and no doubt has the numbers, but one can easily see just from logging in which races are most played, and can then connect the dots, realize what they have in common, and realize why those races are more played than others.

Also you ignoring totally that i mention here IF they gonna make a new race at all because i think this is not smart atm. for the game, they should not do viera because yes attracting a imagniry 5 % that does not already play the game because of lack of intressting divers races is far mor proftiable to pandering to significant imaginary population of this game that is gonna quit because there is not enoug waifu races in the game introduced pro expansion

I think we can agree if people are going to quit this game it would be highly unlikely to be related to the selection of playable races. That said, the game's population is growing just fine without, 'Diverse,' races. Its more the gameplay than the races which attract players, so you're making an entirely different argument. Very few people are the sort who would go out and buy a game just because of its selection of playable races. I think we can also infer that if such had ever been SE's intent, then the polls regarding a new race from four years ago would've targeted players who WEREN'T playing the game rather than those who were.
