Honestly, same.
Until they actually do it, everything seems like a damage control effort-speech.

I mean they openly admitted they went to far with the simplification but cant dial back multiple expansions worth of changed in a patch. But i agree with Rein there.
There is literally nothing stopping them from fixing it all aside from them not doing their job.
Might make 7.1 take a bit longer, but I rather them take their time to make the game great instead of just continuing into mediocrity.
They can do it patch by patch.
Start with healers and tanks throughout Dawntrail then next expansion we have DPS getting changed starting with Phys ranged.
Unless dawntrail's content patch by patch proves to be on another level compared to previous expansions this will be one of the most mid expansions ever considering how bad the 90-100 abilities have been.
The DPS thing solely rests on the shoulders of meta slaves who screamed off the top of their lungs that some comps are not viable or certain skills are not worthy of being pressed so that is the logical end result. It's all about raw efficiency to the detriment of literally anything else. Nowadays it's considered novel if a dungeon has a room in-between a corridor. It's kinda funny.
sure... as much as I like Yoshi P, how many times before has he done corpo speak just to placate the players?
I dont think he is as in touch with where the game is as much as we think or even he thinks he is.
and while sure, he DID imply that.. it was definitely not an indication they were changing direction.
"Yoshida (reflecting on the fan festival): So from now on, we'll keep working to surprise players and go beyond what they imagine. But that reminds me of something I regret… as we've continued to operate FF14, we've made the game more comfortable, a game you can play without stress. But looking back on the last 10 years, I'm thinking we've overdone that a bit.
Most Importantly came just after
Yoshida: Speaking of FF14, I would like to restore that part a little bit. If we do that, we can give everyone a better challenge, in a good way, than ever before. "
sure, HE WOULD LIKE to restore it"a little bit" but there is no guarantee. there is a lot of vagueness there, he is just spitballing and there is no solid indication that things will change... at all.
Definitely should start with Healers... They kinda have the most issues...
Tanks are generally fine, but they could definitely be given some more individual identity... Bringing back the physical damage and magic damage split to the tanks would be a strong start in that direction, if the team designing fights did their jobs and actually used some variety in boss design.
Well if they stick with there plan to have no more leveling in the game meaning level 100 is the End.
They cant continue as it is now anyway so my hope is that there reason for not doing much right now is that they want to do it in one swing to align the classes with the new non level progression system what ever it is.
Of course i think they should do it with patches before as 2 years of nothing isnt feasible.
I would say there is room for more levels. Because I think ARR being from level 1 to 50 is kind of excessive nowadays... I think they themselves kind of realized how excessive it was back all the way in Heavensward, as the plan was more or less for 20 levels per expansion, but they squished it down to 10 and the squished down 10 levels became the norm.
But they could probably squish ARR down to like 30 levels instead of 50, dropping the current max to 80 instead of 100.
But from what we know that isnt the plan and they dont want to do any squishes anymore.
And that would only delay there problem not stop it from appearing.
Somehow I really don’t see them making any major changes whatsoever until next expansion. I mean, they almost never do anything other than basic potency changes mid-expansion/patch.
Which, yeah, like, 3 whole years of healers being mostly dead weight sounds unbearable lol.
But unfortunately I think that’s just going to be it for us until next expansion, where they’ll announce ‘we’re totally making huge changes in 9.0!’ then give us an identical playstyle for healers again in 8.0. I mean, considering their main design philosophy for healers seems to be ‘make failure as hard as humanly possible’ and ‘rotation and responsibilities can simultaneously be performed while watching Netflix’
This is my fear. Even if they openly acknowledge the problem and say they're going to start working on it, I really don't see them making meaningful changes before 8.0. And I don't know if I'm willing to give this game two to three years of my life praying it will get good again, you know?
Yeah I totally get it. Plus, it gets worse as the expansion goes on as people get better and better gear but the damage output of normal content never actually scales to match the better gear. So basically as a healer you find yourself healing less, and less, and less as the expansion goes on.
We can’t even look forward to what they have planned in future knowing that it’s going to be out geared so quickly that healers have next to nothing to do for the majority of it. And we’re supposed to accept it because ‘insert lame Yoshi-P excuse that barely makes sense #283839’ lol
Time to check in with the strikers now that Savage has been released.
How are things going? Are you enjoying playing tank and/or DPS in content? Have your EX/Savage groups been clearing content easily without healers because healers are pointless, or struggled to find healers since you aren't healing anymore but your party needs healers?
Or did you back out of the strike and pick up your healing cane/codex/astrolabe/nouliths for group content after all?
Please don't talk about what you're seeing in PF. I want to know how things are with your personal game play. Discontent with individual job design aside, are all the claims made that led to the decision for you to strike true in Dawntrail?
Some, yes. Yes, there are groups here and there clearing without healers, but that was never the point. End of the day healer is still just... boring to play. Even with Savage, it feels less like we're necessary and more like we have the privilege of hitting a few more buttons on occasion. The game breaks down to mechanics. A good group on good mechanics means we do less. Better team = Less enjoyable/necessary for healers.
I'm enjoying tanking and DPS'ing much more in DT. Haven't felt like I am going to fall asleep at the keyboard in a while now.
The groups I’ve been in have all had the healer slot fill last. Or a static I trialed for that was still looking for a healer. And in those groups, the healers have tended to be the weak link which makes sense if all the good ones have left.
Was briefly tempted to level a healer finally but decided nah I’d rather not raid at all then be bored to death doing it.
Healer is my current least levelled role across my two accounts, my main- Andreas- I only levelled SCH through the MSQ and in the first trust visit of the dungeon, my only other healer above 90 is AST on 92 from fates. My alt (who I will not share publicly as it’s my raiding character) had only SGE and SCH levelled as I’m our statics shield healer
Andreas doesn’t heal at all, I simply do not enjoy it, I’m still having a blast on PCT and while I’m trying to level all my jobs I’ll come up with any excuse to play PCT in any content including offering to double run roulettes with friends just so I can play more PCT. My raiding character I shield heal out of obligation but I get no fun out of it, healing is still boring as hell, both my co-healer and I are pressuring our static to rotate roles under threat of dropping the static because healing is just that boring but nobody will fill our slots as none of our static wants to play healer. If anything the savages are less healing intensive than the extremes. The mechanics are better but the healing still isn’t there
So yes I feel fully justified in my decision to join the strike and dump this travesty of a role. The only thing I miss is the nebulous feeling of being a healer as Andreas is canonically a healer in my personal headcanon that goes beyond the scope of the game but I couldn’t miss the minute to minute gameplay of healer less if I tried
Things have been good! I have been enjoying learning some more and getting into some, in my opinion, more engaging gameplay.
As far as the "group content", even from the start this was never about harming other players. If requested by friends, or anyone, I heal for THEM and am happy that I got to help. I just don't run DF content with rando's because I am hoping that is a stat that SE will notice (correctly or no). SO, I have been healing for friends but only in EX trials and we have been getting pretty clean with it. I think we are getting closer to having everything choreographed enough to run without healers, but that may just be me thinking too much about this issue.
Aside from that, I have been having some great laughs and adventures :D
Been enjoying DPS and leveling a good handful of them. I did try WHM in raids and dungeons to gauge the feel of it again. But, it’s not been fun on healers the rotation is still bland, even on WHM which I consider to be the least monotonous healer since you break up the spam with lillies. I’d tolerate WHM more if we had more chances to Glare IV. Kind of abstaining from savage for this tier. Burned out a bit near the end of EW doing some last minute raiding. The upped healing requirements were nice from what I played, but that was early and not substantial enough for my liking. So I’m abstaining from healers still overall, the role is not engaging enough and it really effects my performance with the jobs.
I was enjoying VPR until 7.05 so now I'm just leveling jobs out of boredom more than anything. My old static asked me if I was interested in joining for the raid tier but I just haven't really found a job that keeps me engaged anymore and can't really see myself even continuing to play. I'm going to level everything to 100 and try again in 8 0
I usually level all healers first... but this time leveled PICT and going through story as Warrior...in my underwear!
Been avoiding using it in roulettes aside from frontlines and MSQ roulette. PvP healer is fun of course, and MSQ Roulette is all lv50 content where any job feels as lackluster as healers. If anything it's better to heal there since you nor the other party members have all the tools that make GCD healing irrelevant.
I also occasionally heal when playing with friends after getting matched with traumatizingly bad ones or if it's the only slot left in the group. I don't really sense much of a difference, especially now that everyone's better geared and we're all more used to the mechs. We had a DT dungeon run where I was dozing off so badly that I literally do not remember what happened during the last boss fight, but I've been told I didn't get hit once and everyone was also doing fine, so there's also that.
I am curious how many are actually striking specifically, and how much this is business as usual for an expansion with 2 DPS classes.
I still like healing a lot so enjoying content that is newer and isn't outgeared yet while it lasts.
I thought about maining Picto or Viper for a bit since I enjoyed leveling them - did some normals on Picto also. But... even DPS classes I like just don't hold my interest that long and I'm back rotating between healers. VPR being ruined so quickly also just removed my excitement for going into that direction.
Edit: Also my go-to DPS, Summoner, has finally bored me to death by adding nothing new in DT as far as the actions I engage with. So being bored and bottom-tier DPS doesn't appeal to me.
Things are going pretty awful actually, since the DPS job I was going to play in Savage got the healer treatment and was made unfun for no reason. So now I'm looking for another main job to play before the devs ruin that too. The number of jobs keeps increasing but the list of jobs I still like is getting shorter.
This savage tier was the last straw that broke my back.
I gave it a try with competent friends and got bored out to death by the designs & the lack of healing to do on most (not M3S) fights.
When I'm not healing, either a friend of mine plays healer or we can't find one.
What I was looking for (engaging savage with good designs) as a last beacon of hope to stay on FFXIV as disappointed me greatly, as it was one of my main enjoyment with fishing when I started playing.
For now, I've decided to move on and stop FFXIV, I might come back in 7.55 for the legendary fishes and maybe prepare for the release of the 8.0 (copious amounts of copium for the job overhaul).
Man, I really hope the 7.1 PvP update delivers with proper long term and high rank grinds. It's the only place where Healers remain fun to play.
Oh and they should buff SGE, for some reason Phlegma still has shorter range than any melee ability in PvP like wtf?
Been doing that with some of my friendos. Terrorizing with our 7-9 millions damage per SCHsbut still loses sometimes looool.
It’s more fun than whatever this clownfest of a job designers cooked up for the supposed main content that is PvE sections for healers.
