that irks me as a drk main and i see it in the 24 mans. i've always have both up when tanking
Well from what i have experienced as a tank doing a 24 man, if the tanks are all just standing there its usually because we all want to mt and so we all are fighting over it. i know i was holding up the raid cause of this reason when a pld would keep using provoke while im in WoD as a drk.
Apparently I live in an alternate dimension where doing something smart is considered taboo. I get into Satasha NM and immediately notice the tank has trouble holding aggro on groups of enemies. I use auto-translate to type {marauder}{overpower} mistakenly thinking some friendly advice would do wonders. Tank replies "start and I leave."
...huh?
I reply with "I'm just sayin Overpower is like your main aoe to hold aggro on groups..." Tank then leaves.

F*** me for trying to be helpful I guess. Thankfully, we finished without him anyway.
Ran Weeping City earlier today. The co-healer in my party was a WHM that I noticed had less than 14k hp even with full party bonus, so I looked at their gear. The player was using a lv57 dungeon drop weapon and had a HQ lv54 body piece. I mentioned that they should really upgrade their gear and the response was "I'm a monk main, just trying to gear my off jobs :/". They also didn't seem to know what stoneskin II was (they kept single casting SS before bosses) and hadn't leveled THM enough to have swiftcast so they'd try to slow cast raise when someone died.
I swear, beyond just the min ilvl requirement for some content, there should be a "All of your gear must be at least ilvl XXX" so people can't bypass the min ilvl with higher accessories.
I've noticed a lot of Zurvan ex parties tend to dissolve into people bickering about mechanics like they're a bunch of grade-schoolers arguing about who has to do what in a group project.
I've also noticed a general trend of tanks not tanking in 24 person raids. It's not only that they won't pull the boss, but the off tanks won't pick up adds either, at least not until they've eaten half the healers and DDs in the alliance. Half the time I run Dun Scaith I feel like shouting at the tanks to at least try and do their job.
I got into an on-going df party as a smn DPS in Stone Vigil. The other DPS of the party was a machinist.
The party hasn't even reached the first boss when I came in. Then came the pull of the mobs, machinist throws out his rook turret then proceed to promote it.
I told him that promoting rook turret only restore TP and doesn't deal damage.
He replied "Trust me, I need to do it. Promotion increases turret damage"
The happiest moment of my life was when he ran out of MP
Running Dun Scaith yesterday I found out the hard way I can't tank with DRK. It took a couple of tries to hold hate and when I got it I was dead in a few hits. I'll stick with PLD for the time.
Speaking of which I had to go again because no Fending gear dropped. Everything was so smooth until Scathach. No one was grabbing the add and the tethered DPS rushed the hands. After a few wipes and people coming and going and FOUR failed abandons another PLD joined and he took MT. Leaving me free to grab the add. Everything was smooth again. I even got the boots.
Went into Dun Scaith yesterday with FC mates after raid and volunteered to tank although I'm working on my AST relic, because there have been so many reluctant tanks in there lately who refuse to MT or aren't very geared. Although the WAR was quite well geared, almost all BiS like me, the other tank was wearing 100% 235 pvp gear which made me extremely sad. Guys pls. ;_;
Aside from that the duty went relatively smoothly save for my death at the hands of Scathach, when my main healer got hit with a perfect storm of mechanics and party damage and the other healer...well, we don't know what they were doing. But I died and they had nearly full mp. My SMN raised me, so they didn't help out there either.
The WAR picked her up and the group managed to clear somehow.
Diabolos was also a one and done, though there were so many deaths we got soooo close to a wipe. Two people didn't run their shadow orb markers away from the raid.
A1S light farm.
6 DPS, 1 tank, 1 healer. Should be fast and smooth, right? Of course not
I mean, yeah, the dps weren't all that great, but the main problem was the healer.
She wasn't dpsing at all - which, you know, would be a bit meh but not really a problem if she did her main job well instead, the healing! - but she DID BARELY HEAL AT ALL as well.
Roomwide AoE? Whatever, the dps have Chakra or potions, right?
Tank's HP drop dangerously? He has Holy Ground for that!
Someone gets targeted by prey? Too bad. Maybe they'll have better luck next time!
I can understand getting caught up in dpsing, or accidently turning Cleric Stance back on when you meant to turn it off or whatever. It shouldn't happen, but it does, and if it happens from time to time, that's okay.
But she wasn't doing that! She just stood there, watching us die, at best throwing a regen at someone.
Prey was especially lovely, the first 2 dps that got it just flatout died (and had to be ressed by the SMN because even that was too much work for our amazing healer!).
The third one who got it was me, on BLM. I got neither shielded nor healed in any way, and only survived with a tiny sliver of HP because my Manawall stopped the first hit from connecting.
You'd think seeing me at like 100 HP would get the healer to throw a Cure my way, but nope, nothing at all for 20+ seconds, than a single Regen only to go back to staring blankly into the distance.
Needless to say, next room AoE killed me, tank as well, and boss went on a rampage through the remaining players.
I wanted to leave so badly, but I was only missing 3 runs to finish my weapon so I was gonna stick it out, but the others weren't and we disbanded after that desaster ^^°
I just don't understand that mindset. If you join as a certain role, do at least that job well. I may be annoyed at healers who don't dps but at least I can understand where they are coming from.
But why the heck would you join on healer if you are not gonna do any healing? That really is beyond me.
Same thing happened to me but we had a War myself as drk, Sch healer, rest DPS, the healer would DPS which is great and all but she let just Eos heal which isn't that effective lol. I died to Faust...twice because she never ever once healed me herself and as for the boss I died 3 times everytime I kept saying you actually have to heal me if i''m at y'know <10k, didn't say a word. Finally after the 4th time she says "I should probably heal lol" no REALLY, I get people want to rush this and you can but please just at least keep me alive because it's not the fact that I died, it's wasted time, wasted deaths and waste of a slot if you don't want to play to keep the group and myself alive.
Um I can see this. but I also hate the opposite. those duties you do where the only thing all the tanks are doing is fighting over hate on the boss while the adds rip the entire party / alliance to shreds.
if I queue on tank I always plan to main tank. but if another tank decides to voke it off me and be a douche i'll just off tank the rest of the fight or raid if it's 24 man. makes no difference to me as long as the duty gets completed
the funny thing is when that tank who voked off you the last boss starts a countdown on the next one and then doesn't do anything when it hits zero all the dps go rushing in take a pounding blame the tanks and we're like "that guy did the countdown" he's main tanking
This is what most of my Zurvan PUGs have been like

We wiped after that one because the Monk I was tethered to moved from the meteor pair we were stacked on at the last second and broke the tether. Like we were perfectly stacked and the dude was "naw" and ran to the other side of the boss and got us all killed after a previous 3 wipes with the same group. In a farm.
Was running Dun Scaith myself two days ago, on Scholar with my fiance on BRD and our raid leader on WAR. We finally had managed to beat Scathach, I lash off on the 2 other BRDs, since my fiance wasn't alive at the time I asked for Mages, and one of the BRDs tells me to "Git gud", dude... I had to rez over 10 times... and the other SCH did almost nothing and died twice while I didn't at all. Oh, and to top it all off, the other SCH said "I saved all my MP ^^" That means you're not doing your job...
Just leaving this here.

As melee dps, I'll LB as soon as LB is ready and I've full buffs on, maybe waiting some CD but at the end, will LB far before last 1% of the boss.
But, they are cases where LB must be saved. Apart the mechanics requiring it, when I see the party struggle on the boss and the duty allows to build up lb in more attempts, I'd prefer to leave lb as a finisher because I don't even know if we do the kill. Unless, of course, someone other of the party wants see the shinies and triggers lb for fun... mages on single target are the best on that.
I don't know. We have 3 tank slots, 6 healers slots and 15 DPS slots. If anything, queues for tanks shouldn't be faster than DPS' queues. Depends on the datacenter, but speaking in general.
Speaking of 24 man. However, if you're unexperienced, you should be vocal about it and ask the other tank to MT instead if possible. If both are new, just play, experiment and enjoy the content.
Like I said before, be vocal about it. People can't read other people's minds. Just use /alliance to say "Hey, I WILL MT." Other tanks trying to voke off you are not that common, but chances are that you might find them at some point. At least you started the fight and the other players know what to expect. If you see the other guy trying take it off you and you can't take it back or the boss is constantly swapping between you two: just let him tank and switch to OT. Don't try to reason with them as it failed at first when you asked for being the MT.
I cleared Zurvan with my static and got a few weapons out of clears with them, but trying to get a party outside my static has been a challenge. First, farms had min level set to 260. When I met that on my AST, farms have been raising it this week to 265, as though ilevel = farm ability, lol.
Joined a clear party on AST yesterday and I left after a few pulls when the MT stayed south after the demon claw mechanic (which was done correctly, kudos), and I took a couple cleaves and died. It wasn't the first time the MT had some positioning issues, so I said something. I was basically told "no, I don't move, YOU move," and when I mentioned other groups do it that way too, the response was basically "you're the only one who had an issue." So I said if we're going to argue about it, good night, and left the instance.
What ticked me off was, as I zoned in but before I dropped party, the tank said "guess some people just expect a carry" which, sorry, no, I've already got my clear.
If you can't keep South safe, you're not going to be able to farm in PF, dude, good luck.
After 2 1/2 years of playing, I finally reported my first player for harassment. Qued into PotD 91-100 just to work on getting a padjali weapon for my newly leveled AST. I go in as a MNK and get a party with 3 other dps. Not ideal, but it's palace so whatever. 3 of us in this group were not having good days. 3 of us died at around floor 93 because stuff happens in palace. So the drg who didn't die rez's us. On my way to the key portal I ran into a mob that I should have seen but wasn't paying attention to. The drg who rez'd us says "Logic dictates you run into the mob instead of around it, huh." I could taste the salt already. I replied "sorry about that. Wasn't paying attention." Hoping to soothe things over. Cut-to floor 97, me and the 2 other guys died a couple more times and the drg's frustrations were understandable. So on 97, the sprout in our group pops a rage pomander and goes to work. The drg immediately asks him why he did that because we only had 2, yada yada, should have saved it, blah blah blah. The sprout replies that it doesn't really matter because it's palace and these items don't carry over. I agree with him because I don't think it's worth causing a stir over. The drg starts berating all us, calling us useless and saying he's carrying us. Admittedly he was because he was the only one who didn't die the entire time. The sprout tells him he didn't mean to cause problems and he just wants to finish. The drg keeps on with his BS until floor 99. At one point we told him that if it was that bad, he was free to leave and we would wait for someone else to join. I should reiterate that there was no cursing or foul language from either side. Us 3 troubled children were sincerely trying to keep things amicable. At 99, we come to a room chalk full of mobs that we have to get through to progress. We start pulling them one by one when the drg says "my parting gift for morons." Then proceeds to use up EVERY POMANDER IN OUR INVENTORY in rapid succession and then immediately leaves saying "good luck." Needless to say, we wiped in that room. The worst part about it was this dude was a Mentor. I know there's a big debate about how mentors should act. My stance on it is that you don't have to mentor anyone or say anything at all. Just don't be a dick. You're human and it's ok to be frustrated with a group like ours. But to resort to such childish behavior simply to spite the people you're with is too far. I reported him as soon as I got out and was contacted by a GM shortly after. Not sure what will come of it. But for all the mentors out there, I would advise you to be cautious of your actions while wearing the crown icon. To me, you should carry yourself with a little bit more decorum than what this drg did.
Hmm, lemme think about that. Tank role, doesn't get penalized for moving and are fairly mobile jobs who don't have to cast most of the time. Or caster DPS and healers who have to stand still to be able to actually cast. Hrmm, I wonder who would be the sensible one to have move... -_-
I wonder if they blame NPCs for eating cleaves in solo story / job quests. Gladiator has an early level mission where you have to aim mobs away from an NPC because they'll die otherwise.
My internet connection decided to troll me when I was running Sohm Al Hard.
I got really laggy but it was no biggie. The DPS with high enough that things were dying fast and I didn't have to stance dance. No one died. Then we got to the first boss. it was going swimmingly until my internet decided to screw me over (boss @ 50%-ish) and disconnected me for a good minute.
They wiped. But they waited for me to get back on anyways and we decided to take a second whack at it. We beat the boss this time. I apologized and told them I could drop the party as soon as my fiance's out of his Zurvan run and I can have him replace me as their healer. They said its fine and told me to finish the run with them.
The rest of the run went well. No one dying and my internet seems to be getting better this time. I'm not lagging anymore so I decided to at least put up CS on, throw my dots, bane, and then Shadowflare, and then drop CS to succor/adlo. I would have continued with broil but I feared I will lag again and I won't be able to chance stance quickly.
Last boss. I thought we would finish the the run without anymore hiccups. Then come at 10% left, my internet decided to die out on me again and I was out of the game again into the character selection screen. By the time I got back in, only the MNK was left in the run, hoping he gets the drop. I didn't even bother checking what it was - he deserved it more than I do.
I am an off tank by trade and I run with a great, responsive MT who tanks Zurvan really well. So when that was their attitude I was more than happy to leave. It was too bad, because we almost got past tethers on the second pull. But if the MT is gonna be all "no, YOU move, I'M the MT," peace bro, and it was never gonna be a carry.
You know, if he hadn't been immediately defensive about it and blamed me, I might have stayed. But his response was it's your problem, this is your issue, you do it my way or get out.
So I got out. And nowhere was it said that he was doing it for dps positionals. We didn't have a MNK. It was purely for his convenience.
What infuriated me was his implication he was "carrying me" when I have multiple clears, was keeping up my end of heals as well as dps, and hadn't caused any party wipes. My death was recoverable but he wanted to argue about it.
It is very possible to have Eos solo heal a1s, because I had joined a farm once where the party leader (an ast) put a 2nd healer spot just so they can make that other healer do all the work... I used Selene at first not knowing this, a poor bard got nuked by the prey and the ast reproached them for "not paying attention" instead of going out of cleric for one second to use ED or something. In fact, I'm sure an ED in cleric would have saved them anyways.
I switched to Eos after that and with well planned CD usage (and ACTUALLY PLACING HER NEAR THE TANK which I don't see 90% of scholars do) she can heal a1s all by herself. The dps has to be good though, in later farms I joined that had poor dps, the adds would kill Eos before Faust died, even with adlos and sustains.
On the topic of a1s light farming, I joined a farm on my blm a couple days ago and had one of the other blms in the party get really salty about me not using ley lines on Faust, saying I was "letting it go to waste" and "making the run slower" even though I was still top dps on Faust and Oppressor. Faust is such a short fight that I prefer saving ley lines for my full opener on the actual boss. But it was amusing watching this blm get all-caps angry about it, especially as I watched them consistently drop their second ley lines right before resin bomb (and immediately abandon them as a consequence) and also stand around for ~10 seconds waiting for buffs to come back up before they started attacking (which is even more of a dps loss than "wasting buffs").
And you're so right about that good schs will put Eos near the boss this sch just depended on Embrace not Whispering Dawn or Fey, which lead to many people's deaths including my own. Also the person talking about your ley lines is crazy, DPS is laughable on Faust and you wanna get the most out of it since you, as a blm don't want to move and you don't have to in A1S unless a Resin drops on you. I don't know why there's so many angry people in A1S lately I get that there's light windows but 40 seconds- 1 minute isn't the end of the world.
That theory is nice, but in practice it is not the case at all. The distribution of jobs in 24 man content does result in some differences from 4 man content queues such as longer queue times for the ones who usually have the shortest queue times due to the sheer number of people required and relatively shorter queue times in comparison for those with the longer queue times due to the larger share of party real estate, but it's still the same order of length. I.e. Tanks have the upper hand with queue times, healers are usually pretty fast, and dps have the longest ones on average. It's especially noticeable when going in as a group since groups with only DPS have long queue times, but add a tank or even a healer and it's dramatically reduced.
I don't get this, how does it matter if the tank just stay facing it south or facing it north.. that is to say, the MT got knockbacked by the demon claw from north to south like in most cases do and kept facing zurvan to south.. In my opinion tho, it barely matters at all because unless you expect 2nd soar in 2nd phase with zurvan being off centered, which shows the party have awful dps..
Apparently I've been spoiled by a considerate MT who takes care to keep the boss positioned facing north as much as possible so the whole party knows what to expect? And does this during demon's claw as well?
It's whatever. Joined a different clear party to help out last night and they knocked it out in half an hour. It's great to see people mastering the mechanics. Three people got their achievement.
Gotta love all of those fancy descriptions on pf.. I've encountered myself something like "please do sub-par damage, we dont want to give carry" and "leviathan bird farm, bring high dps" in the limitless blue extreme, "zurvan kill party 20% are fc members"..
The last description seems to bug me the most as 20% of 8 is 1.6.. So someone is 0.6 fc member..
===========
I queued myself Urth's Fount synched trying to get my khloe sticker and stumbled upon bunch of newcomers, the tank asked "what's the deal here?" Much to the whm"s dismay that the tank didn't watch a guide prior to joining. I explained that the tank just need to deal damage and dodge but the whm kept throwing taunt on why the tank should watch a guide. When the tank died because the whm was dispelling bleedings from einhejar from every party members, the whm didn't bother to raise the tank at all.. it just feels like they spite each other on that run.
Recently I Find myself becoming more and more "THAT PLAYER" that just ups and bails after a couple of wipes....
Joined a Seph Ex clear with someone in my ls to help them out. Amoung other instructions I told players to stack in "B" to bait the pillars. Had half the party in "B" a couple just outside "B" and a couple more a few inches out from "B". Then the pillars killed half the party and the other half got knocked off cos they saw where the pillars were gonna be and tried to adjust.
Second run I said stack in "B" means IN "B". Not near "B" not around "B" but IN "B". I was told to stop being a jerk and pull. Started the second attempt exact same thing happens. I said sod this if you can't even stack properly when needed there's no hope you'll be able to clear. Apologised to my friend in ls and bailed. Friend said in ls they were throwing some right flak about me soon as I left. I Just lolled.
Then I joined a Zurvan clear help some other people in the same ls.
First run 3 people died to the red circles so I said everyone needs to stand on the right hand edge. Not the middle not the left but the right edge to bait those red circles as much as possible. Second run starts same thing happens again. So I pressed up to bring up my last instructions and this time put some se.# noises in there. People say "yeah we know" Third attempt same thing again... even the tank died cos all the red circles were overlapping on the left side of the arena and he couldn't run through them in time
Made some remark about how if you can't even do something as simple as stand on one side you got no chance of doing the rest of the stuff and this was a clear party, not learning and once again I bailed... apaologised again to people in ls.
Then joined a Zurvan ex FARM party... exact same thing with the red circles and ppl not stacking but we made it down. Even survived the soar. Biting halbeard came up. And then people spread out all over covered half the arena in ice from southern cross yeah that's a wipe.
Second attempt made it through the adds and tyre fang. Leader said stack in "B" for southern cross. And like my earlier sephi party player were near "B" but not in "B". Other players were couple of inches away from "B" not in "B" and then half the dps died cos the circles were to spread out on the left.
So I said stack in B means IN "B" not near "B" but IN "B"!!!!.
Party leader put "^ this!"
Third attempt. Same thing again except this time even more spread out than last... Yeah sod this. Dropped party...
I really don't get why people can't even do the simplest of things. If you can move to be near "B" you can definitely take that extra couple of steps to stack properly in "B"...
End of rant.
