Eh yeah. If most of your DPS dies, that means they're all afflicted by the weakness debuff for a bit. With echo, a lot of people would rather just reset, get the extra 5% or whatever that you get out of echo, and go again.

I know that's most of the problem I run into with PUG Ultima HM's is DPS not being able to survive certain phases. Titan doesn't have the hard DPS check that Ultima does, but the debuff still makes it take forever to kill him.

Having been on the receiving end of bad internet spikes during Titan EX, I can see it, but if you're getting hit by every 2nd set of plumes, I also question the "lag".

I think for myself, it's more of the fact that I particularly enjoy the challenges associated with carrying the Titan HM group as a healer. Generally speaking, when Titan HM shows up, people die, a lot. lol. Probably why I'm stubborn as a mule in this regard (and partially my own fault) since I kept on healing regardless because I like watching a group of four down Titan HM :)

In this particular case, we had two DPS, two tanks, and one heal left by the onset of P5. It's perfectly plausible to do it with this in a reasonable set if time (whether the reset + 10% would've helped, who knows), though we ended up spending more time since we wipe again anyway. ~Shrugs~ Ah well, hindsight is 20/20.

Now, don't get me started in another Titan HM with a DRG using an i42 weapon and full AF equipment and didn't know the fight and two Zenith BRDs who couldn't dodge plumes, bombs, or landslides. That went to 30% Echo too and nothing I could do could help carry that, lol.

This horror story falls in the "I want to quit this dungeon, but if I stay I'll level".

I'm on my SCH, doing the LL Roulette for the 2nd time of the day, hoping it will give me enough to level. And Dzemael Darkhold pops. Get into it and get the "one or more of the people are new". It's myself (SCH, SMN, MNK, and WAR). The WAR admit's that it's his first time, and asks for pointers. The SMN, and myself both try and give him some. Fight the mobs near the purple crystals so we avoid the Eye, etc. The dungeon goes slowly but we are making progress. Even though the WAR tended to stop before each group and just stand there looking at them. I still don't know why he would stop, but we all wait for him to engage so that we can engage.

We make it to the first boss (Eye) and explain to fight in the crystals again. We also mention that the crystals will fade and we need to move to the next one, also there will be adds. So the first fight starts and goes ok, until the first adds join. From then on all I'm doing is healing. I'm not sure what everyone else is doing, but all I could do was heal. I think my pet even died and I had to swiftcast another. The crystal starts to fade. I pause to type "next" and run to the next crystal. The group follows only for almost all of them to get hit by the eye. I think the MNK died out in the middle. I try to position so that I'm sill in the crystal and can target him, but still he is out of range. We don't last long any way and our wipe.

Someone asks what went wrong, and it's mentioned that we didn't move fast enough between the crystals. It's also mentioned, "we need to kill the adds". (Ouch, so that's why this fight seemed so hard from the healing point of view.) I'm actually ok with the wipe because it's the WAR's first time, so I'm expecting us to have some trouble. We re-do the fight this time everyone recognizes how it works and moves at the correct (or close to) the correct times. I do notice this time that the WAR was only pulling the eye to just inside the purple. This was giving the MNK a choice of fight in the purple or step out into the open. The MNK choose the later. He didn't die this time, and we clear this fight.

I can't remember if the giant toads are before or after the 2nd boss. For this story they will be before. We make it to the 2nd boss with only wiping once to the giant toads b/c we pulled to many mobs at once. I end up dieing and forget that the SMN also has a raise. (Dumb mistake especially since I'm SCH). We release and come back. We make it to the 2nd boss and explain the fight. The SMN asks if there is anything they can do to help, and I say, maybe help heal. So we go into the fight and for the most part everyone is dodging the AOE's that they are able to. It actually goes down on our first try.

We move on, and I start to notice that it appears that the MNK is face pulling the mobs ahead of the tank. So I'm starting to have to heal him fairly soon after we start each fight. Then the WAR has to fight to get the mobs off me. I ask if we can try letting the WAR pull to start the fights. I'm met with silence, and the MNK does the same thing. This time I decide, well you are only getting heals from the fairy now. And he does survive. But I'll confess I'm starting to think "Should I just abandon this group". I choose the high road and stick it out vs what I want to do.

We get to the area with large room with two crystals in it and two packs of roaming skeletons. The WAR asks for advice, and we just tell him to pull mobs from the crystals and fight them in the center away from the crystals. Also to watch the wandering mobs and grab them separately. He says "ok" and then the MNK I think decides he has had enough. And runs to the first group of skeletons, face pulls them, and then runs to the 2nd group, and then runs over to a group by the crystals. I state "I'm letting him go" and the WAR and SMN both stop. We watch the MNK get slaughtered by the packs he has pulled. The SMN asks "What was the point of that?" and the MNK leaves. Doesn't offer any reply, just leaves. I state "Well that was easy" as by this point I'm wanting to be rid of the MNK.

We immediately get a DRG that joins (hurray for there being an over supply of DPS). We make it all the way to the last boss and explain the fight to the WAR. I think we wiped on the first try but got it the 2nd time.

Like I said, this was only a horror story in the sense that it's one of the few times I've been in a dungeon and wanted to quit. But we overcame it and I did get my level out of it.

I had a spectacularly bad one last night. My mantra for Trials Roulette is "please not titan" haha. So... as soon as I see it's Titan, I groan inwardly a bit and then start checking out my party to see how it's gonna go. I see that the other Scholar has just shy of 3200 hp; I wanted to facedesk. Not only was the other healer incredibly squishy, the entire party seemed to be magnetically attracted to Landslide and WotL. During one run, three DPS got knocked off before the heart phase and the other Scholar was dead. Titan is just seriously unforgiving. It's hard to carry that fight compared to Ifrit or even Garuda, mostly because of mechanics that completely remove people from the fight.

We ended up vote abandoning because the other healer couldn't stay alive and I couldn't keep the DPS alive solo.

Spamming Bray Normal yesterday to get the entire Battlemage set. A couple of runs had MRD as the tank. We never got very far.

Same deal for me yesterday... MRD blames me for not being geared enough to do half pulls (I'm iLVL 81). Seven wipes and we finally finish.

Omg I had my nightmare dungeons...as both DPS and Healer
First as a DPS at cutter's cry (yes believe it or not) the healer was literally healing ONLY the tank...me and the other dps got hit but didn't got healed...result?we got killed and guess what? We got revived(by him) but NOT HEALED as a result...We left.
Second as a Healer...on....guess what? Yes Brayflox
Tank didn't use flash at all without mentioning that he was silent the whole thing. Both dps was utterly stupid pulling mobs first followed by the derp tank who didn't use flash..that was "delicious" we got wiped 5 times on the first boss ...I left -_-.
The other at Haukke HM tank had terrible gear and was pulling everything at once...receiving MONSTER damage...me and my fairy wasn't able to heal him in time he started raging at the chat saying that I was bad and kicked me.....honestly...

So today I queue for low-level roulette on my SCH and get Tam-Tara Deepcroft. No big deal, I get it a lot and I actually want the boots from there cause they're smexy. We start to run and before long I realize the DRG is pulling. The tank comments on it at one point, asking him if he means to tank. The DRG ignores him and keeps doing it, taking advantage of the fact that Eos heals automatically. I asked him twice to please let the tank do his job as the tank was new-ish (level 30 or so) and was trying his best. He was marking mobs and generally doing a pretty good job but this guy couldn't be bothered to wait. Seriously, I don't get it. Why?

Eventually, I ended up putting Eos away and just focus healing the tank. If the THM got hit I'd heal them (they weren't face pulling on purpose) but the DRG got no heals from me. Sure enough, he either didn't notice or didn't care, got in over his head, and I let him die. He came back without a word. When we got to the altar with the big pull at it, he ran into the room again and again I didn't heal him. Eventually the tank got aggro off him on most of the mobs, but he sat for the rest of the pull barely alive. I asked him again to please let the tank do his job and told him the reason Eos was away and I was no longer DPS'ing was because he kept pulling mobs.

He replied to me: "Other people need healing too, you know." I told him that if he wasn't purposely pulling all the mobs instead of letting the tank do it I'd be happy to heal him. He ragequit without a word as soon as the last mob died. Good riddance. I apologized for the drama (the tank told me not to worry as he felt the guy was a douche anyway) and resummoned Eos. We got another DPS (a much more agreeable one at that) within about 1-2 minutes and finished the dungeon. End result? Two commendations.

Not so much a horror story as an amusing anecdote, I suppose. :3

Queued into Stone Vigil HM on the second boss. After killing that boss, our group reassembled and went on the last leg towards the endboss ... and we must have died five or six times on the final pull of the three Jura Aevis mobs outside. Our poor Warrior tank, while decently geared for the instance, apparently had no idea what his Wrath was used for and felt that using CDs was against his religious beliefs or something. It got to the point where one of the DPS was suggesting sacrificial pulls to split the mobs before we finally managed to down the pack, and that was only with me tearing aggro on the mobs and healing myself like mad.

So Stone Vigil HM in roulette, ended up with a mouthy pre-made of 3 raiders. Things start off really well with the 3 of them running off without protect and stoneskin. Told them there is no point in having a healer in the group if they run off without buffs, to which they decided the best course of action was to let the insults fly. Onto the pulls, tank overpulling, not using cooldowns effectively, had to resort to spamming cure 2 a lot, something i have not had to do in a long long time. First boss, adds not handled properly, boss get all the buffs from them being killed too close, all the group eating swinge all the time. So it turns out this mouthy, elite raiding group has no clue about this dungeon at all O.o.

So very bad pulls to the second boss, and the second boss is a disaster, 2 raises needed and adds not being killed but we get there. Started rebuffing people, but guess what, the tank has run off to pull 2 jura aevis, the 2 sahagin style water drakes and 2 more enemies. Tank died before i knew what was happening, so suggested they may want to wait for the healer next time. Drag them through to the last boss, where these lively people state in chat they have an FC healer for the last boss and kick me!

TL;DR Elite raiders who can not run a dungeon, get carried by a healer, the admit to kicking them for an FC healer, got to love it:)

Binding Coil Turn 2 has been my main horror story. No matter what, no one will try and fight the boss until the time is up and trying to keep everyone alive during that process is a pain.

Sad part is I know it's supposed to be such an easy fight.

Turn 2 enrage method is pretty much the standard now. Passing Allagan Rot takes a ton of coordination that you're not going to get in random parties, and killing the Quarantine Node casts Haste on the ADS boss. My best advice is not to spam your aoe heal off cd; try to time it so that it lands right after each pulse of Object 199. As WHM, only cast Medica II when the regen effect needs to be refreshed; the rest of the time just use Medica. Make sure you're using Divine Seal and Shroud of Saints. As a SCH, make sure to use Sacred Soil off CD (you shouldn't need Lustrate anyway) and time your Succors out to land after each pulse. Make sure to use Aetherflow. Energy Drain can also be helpful as it's off the GCD and you shouldn't be going through very many Aetherflow stacks.

I wish enrage wasn't the standard haha, I'd much rather coordinate passing Rot, but yeah, you're right that it's probably unlikely to be able to with Duty Finder parties.

I appreciate the help, that's typically what I did just with off timing and occasionally using too much Medica II, so that advice certainly helps me close it out enough to hopefully get it next time.

PUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I put a mob to sleep and you see a number 1 floating above a specific one, go for that! Don't run past it and whack the one I just slept.

5 different groups today..... each one giving me this problem.
And then complain when the tank over pulls and they all die cos the damage is too much :/

Not as serious a complaint as some others but it had me raging earlier xD

I'm only a lvl 21 Conjurer (but will be a 50 WHM) but even only doing to first dungeons through the DF some things I just can't get my head around why for the love of (any) god the tank doesn't take all the aggro at the right time when they should!

Even if I'm waiting just to be sure that I don't get any aggro before casting the first Cure they still manage NOT to pull all the aggro which makes me running in circles hoping that someone get's them off me.

Also, even though I appreciate someone else healing a party member with some form of healing (potions I think?) it's not helpfull if it just happens before I finish casting that's just a waste of my MP...

Even though I know I am there to keep them alive (which is my 'job') but I can't do my job if they don't do theirs... And there it all starts if you ask me...

Just a NOOB story but nevertheless one that makes me hope that these are just some beginner healer troubles... :-)

Last night in Castrum Meridianum!

So I'm thinking easy 8-man... Toss out Regens and Cure when needed, in between I use Holy or Stone II. We get to Magitek Vanguard F-I... It's all easy with no one's health going down... until we gets adds. Every add aggros me right away, and neither tank wanted to be the off tank apparently. I try and run to the tanks hoping someone will take them... Nope! I die almost instantly, and the adds then go on a killing spree and we wipe.

The kicker? When people ask what happened, the other healer blamed me... Making snippy comments that I was only DPSing and not healing, leaving poor ole him to do all the work. Nevermind that I was dead before anyone needed healing.

When you pull aggro, run straight to the tank, don't run around in circles. They should be able to pull them back off you, but not if they have to chase you down. I too get annoyed when another player heals, makes me feel like they don't trust me. Every now and then you will see a DPS (usually a SMN or ACN) drop by a few HP, then cast Physick right away. I always remind them that I am here for that stuff and that they don't need to worry, they can continue to focus on their damage output and I won't let them die. I think for the most part I see that in lower level dungeons and it is normally just either a new player who is still getting used to the idea of group play and that there is a dedicated healer (some of the early instances I was never comfortable relying on the NPCs to keep me alive, especially when I was leveling my THM(BLM) and GLD.), or their main is WHM/SCH and they are just used to healing. Though in the latter case, they should know better. If I am running low level as a DPS and I notice the healer struggling to keep up with heals (or they 'forget' that they are playing as a healer) I will try to help once or twice, then try to give the healer some pointers. But I certainly won't pop a potion or physick/cure at the slightest drop in HP.

It sounds like you're just dealing with new tanks. It happens. The stuff in the first few dungeons is pretty forgiving for this reason. If you get aggro, you should go straight to the tank rather than kiting the mobs around. Tanks are melee fighters, so they have a very hard time taking back aggro if they have to chase you around.

Arcanists get Physick, and Cure/Physick can be cross classed by any of the base classes. I get what you're saying about people healing, though. Unless the situation is dire (healer is down or healer is taking heavy damage) DPS should be concentrating on doing damage. I actually had a situation today where we had a very new tank in Copperbell Mines that was having a hard time holding aggro on more than one thing at a time. I'm really tolerant of new players as long as they're trying (they gotta learn somehow, right?) so I was just doing my best to be helpful and target what the tank was targeting. We got to the part where you cross the bridge and a giant breaks through the wall, and the tank didn't pick up the giant. She kept beating on the Coblyn instead... and the healer ended up with the giant by default. She was still trying to heal the tank as well as herself and taking massive damage in the process. Cue Physick/Stone Skin spam from the Thaumaturge (me) while the Lancer killed the Coblyn. When it was dead, the tank finally picked up the giant. Urgh. x_x

Regarding above from Ashkendor and Raeanya;

Even early on this feels so familiar. Even though I'm 'complaining' here I'm not doing that during of after a dungeon, especially because I'm just a beginner myself, 100% certain that I'm doing loads of stuff wrong. (Like running in circles instead of running 'through' the tank so that he takes the aggro).

What I'm wondering though that when doing dungeons through the DF is it typical/standard that just at the start of a dungeon run that you don't say more things to each other besides "Hi/hallo"? I can imagine that a couple of more words regarding taking aggro, nobody healing besides me etc would help not getting annoyed at each other during the run.

It isn't always the crappy tank. I know it was with me in the beginning. I'd run out of MP and no flash to be had as a GLA, and don't get me started on MRD when you have to use Overpower. Let's say a DPS pulls aggro and runs an mob away from the rest. Now, you're running after mobs and only the ones in your cone can be aggro'd! So then, you throw a Tomahawk or Shield Lob and just watch your TP sink to zero. Then you get blamed because you didn't hold aggro. For some reason no one thinks to run TO the tank.

You might try putting the mobs to sleep (repose) when you reach that level, and you can Fluid Aura some in the direction of the tank at your current level. A little advice: Run these low level dungeons a lot. Not only will you get the EXP, but you'll learn the worst and the best of DPS and tanks. You'll also get a sense of your own position in the group. You'll find tanks that hardly need healing at all. Then sometimes, you'll find tanks that grab so much aggro and have so low level gear that you're constantly spamming Cure, Cure II, Regen and Medica. You'll find people who don't know the mechanics, but won't ask. Speed runs, slow runs. It's all there. You will also get some cool drops that you can sell or trade for seals. Most of all, you get a grasp of your own skills as you move up. Too many people jump into a dungeon, trial, etc without really taking the time to gear up and learn the mechanics. I'm guilty of it. I ran Bowl of Embers at bare minimum and I couldn't hold aggro to save my life, and he's only one mob! Ugh. The DRG was geared way higher than myself, and we made it without a wipe or KO, but I felt stupid.

This happened a few months ago
In CT our second healer dced and was kicked. Then the replacement healer somehow managed to lock himself out three times in a row, so I had to solo heal bomb and behemoth.
After that we kicked him because it was obvoious that he was just leeching.

Tank lv55 in T4.

Fresh level 50 Tank in full AF running Bray HM. Barely had 5k HP with Defiance on. They must have seen videos because they pulled everything the way Bray is usually done, but being such a low item level they lost hate to the Bard and the Black Mage and myself constantly.

On the first boss, they were practically down 25% of their HP with every auto attack from the boss. So when the focus-target adds came, I tried to keep it one on myself because I could take the damage and the Bard had the other. The tank kept running over and taking the mobs back from us every time we took them off him, so I was left with a tank who was constantly losing 75% of his HP every other second.

It was not fun to heal through, but we did somehow manage to clear it. And I don't believe I got any commendations for it either. Though it was kind of nice to see my Cure I's healing back 1/3 of the guy's HP. Made me feel kind of OP.

In 2.0/2.1 there were no ilvl restrictions, the tank joined as warrior and then changed to ilvl55 or so PLD (with lv55 I mean he had half lv50 and half lv60 stuff).
Got oneshot by Soldier and Knight.

We had to abandon duty, because anytime I casted cure everything in the dungeon would tunnel me.

In "Party Members" there's the option "Vote dismiss" which allows you to kick a party member out of the dungeon. Next time you find a bot tank (I found lots) kick him right away and replenish ranks :)

It's really hard to find tanks that que in-progress. I've been running Bray a lot lately because I have 3 level 32 DoW DPS and I need the set, and we usually end up waiting 20+ minutes for a tank if I don't go through begging my LSs.

Long time lurking on this thread, first time commenting.

I'm a fairly new lvl50 Scholar. Was running Prae on DF and I asked the WHM which tank she wanted to take. She took the main tank. I took the OT. 20 mins later I realise that she was ONLY healing the MT. So with my limited mass heal, not only was I dealing with the OT, but the rest of the group AND the WHM because she wasn't even healing herself and she took hate a couple of times. Thank god that was my 3rd experience of working with a WHM because that could have totally tarnished my view of playing with other healers....

That reminds me of one time when I pugged t4 for farm in the DF (this was back when the echo buff was really new) and we had a tank who was wearing full Allagan healing accessories to get past the minimum item requirement. It was horrific. I couldn't even heal him through mobs.

I've had a few healing horror stories recently but the one that made me laugh the most happened tonight in Halatali hard. We get to the second boss with no problems at all then as I'm healing everyone from the roars I mess up and the tank dies. I raise the tank and we finish it fine. After, I'm stood re-stoneskinning everyone so I'm last to talk to the guy to teleport to the next area. I normally take a bit longer than most to load, and as I arrive in the next area I see the tank- still with weakness debuff- losing HP. To my horror, they've gone and started to fight without me anywhere nearby, and despite my best tries I can't save the tank when I finally get there. I raise him and we beat the trash fine, then the tank asks 'are you letting me die on purpose?'. I couldn't help but laugh out loud when he said that, just couldn't believe that he was ready to blame his impatience on me. I guess he wanted me to be long-distance healing over Skype or something :P

often i have horror stories when somehow tanks decide not to use their skills to pull aggro..
i think this one was yesterday as i was leveling my conjurer a bit, was a relatively low level dungeon, where tank was not using anything but auto attacks.. so when i heal him everything is pulled on me. and well he was squishy as hell as well(dps tank?). then we had archer and bm, at the last boss fight bm got locked behind cos he was watching a cutscene and tank of course could not wait any longer. so we were 3 fighting there, i have no idea how i pulled that. archer was mainly tanking due to dealing most damage, have no idea how we pulled that cos at the end i had no mana left for heals anymore. archer timed limit break at the right time and i could escape the horror

I was doing Ifrit EX yesterday using duty finder, one of the tanks was getting killed just after 2 hits I dont why he was dying so fast so we wiped like 3 times just at the beginning of the fight, then all the party asked why he was dying so fast and replied "I know the reason it's called bad healers", I was shocked because I didnt even had time to cast cure 2 nor the other healer. After a couple of wipes we still (healers) were gettng all the blame from the tank but at least one of the dps said, "they are not having any issues healing all the dps," the time was at 46 minutes and a black mage said "I'm just waiting one minute and the wipe so we can vote abandon this shit," on that last try we actually killed Ifrit because we switched tanks (poor fella had to eat 6 stacks) and then the other tank said "good run but still the healers suck," never again duty finder, never again.

Sadly this happens too often. Really keep the tank(s) up is a team effort, not just with the other healers but the tanks themselves. They need to manage CDs, have at least decent gear for the content they're tackling, etc. In other content DPS plays a role too (please don't pop 2 orbs during tidal roar @.@).

But in your case it sounds like the party wasn't buying into it, so that's a plus.^^

Anyway, I feel a lot of times that DPS develop a sort of tunnel vision. Experience with other classes helps alleviate it, but they're still not required to watch party members the same way as healers are. As long as the tank and healer are up, they don't have to pay attention to anything except their own rotation and dodging. It takes something like the end of the fight or a dead tank to snap them out of it. More likely than not, he had those blinders on and assumed you let the tank drop dead when they actually dced.

So true, my main is a white mage but I just recently started a Gladiator and a marauder and I can say that I see dungeons completely different I wish that some of the dps play a little while as a healer so they can know that moving, keeping the tank alive and also all the dps is not as easy as it looks, I'm looking at you Ifrit Extreme!!!

New story Yeah! Tried expert roulette and got Stone Vigil HM, I said "easy enough" we get to the first boss and then the adds show up I was expecting the dps kill the adds but instead they were burning the boss and also the tank was moving the boss trough all the place (plus all the movement that the boss does already) so I had to move closer to the tank all the time to heal and with all the adds on me, I die and then we tried again we wipe again and then one dps said that I'm not healing fast enough and I said that it hard to heal if they kept running and not killing the adds asap (of course far from the boss) we tried a third time and same shit, we wipe the tank asked that if I know how the fight works coz Im doing a terrible job instead of reply or say something, because I was really pissed I just left the group, after the 30 min wait I get the same dungeon again, no problems that time, easy as usual.

I've had this issue many times in SV HM. Tanks are 100% supposed to pick up the adds (or at least DPS should be kind enough to try to get them off you). Yes, they buff the boss and yes they stack. But ONLY for 15-20 seconds and they're easy enough to deal with (I have had no issues healing tanks through the extra damage/speed the boss gets). I don't know why they keep expecting healers to kite them, because if they don't get you with their auto-attacks, the heavy debuff (that, for whatever reason, can't be esuna'd) and the DoT will definitely kill you.

Ran one of the easiest dungeons, Tam Tara normal mode, last night in DF roulette. The tank didn't use flash more than 10 times in the whole dungeon. Myself and the Archanist took the brunt of the damage. The DRG even asked if the tank had ever done this before. Not one typed response. So we got through, but I never had to get the crap beat out of me so much. He wasn't level synch'd and he had low level gear, but he didn't even try. I ran behind him with a trash mob, and he acted like I wasn't there! I think were were all thinking, "vote kick", but we knew we could clear with what little he did. We got through without a wipe, but I had to kill the demons and much of the trash while trying to heal everyone. Must have switched in and out of Cleric Stance more times than the tank flashed.

I always just assumed that the DD are supposed to peel them to the far corner and kill them. . .
