Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

What more would it take for XIV to be considered an 'Ivalice game' to you? Because I mean we were there, we have some of the races, we have a chunk of the lore, some people were involved in both.

Besides, if we want to use prior games lore for establishing racial norms, The Moogles alone trample that idea into the dust.

Please understand that male moonkeepers are more than "they just get born less"
They are highly territorial. They leave their clan when they come of age. They live alone in the forest for most of their lives, only coming in contact with clans to mate. And they are extremely antisocial.
This was all reasoning as to why they weren't available in 1.0, and the lore characterization has not changed since.
We're not really glossing over anything when we say "they ripped moonkeeper lore and tacked on a long lifespan."

Which is inherantly sexist lore. Male verias are "only good for breeding". They are literally captives that cannot leave and serve no purpose aside from having babies.

Explain your thoughts on this matter if it was females we were talking about. The entire lore of veira and miqo'te is INCREDIBLY sexist and discriminatory.

I, too, would like to throw my support behind the removal of gender-locked races.
Lore is important, but XIV is not a standard RPG. It's an MMO, and abundance of choice should be paramount.

I'm pretty sure Hydaelyn can champion whomever the heck she wants.

Male Viera should've been standard, though I hope they realize that it was a mistake and that gender locking is a really sad "feature"

I hope that SE realizes this, male viera and female hrothgar would be ideal for RPers and other players.

Honestly Hikelos I find the idea of "a whisper in the wood" hearing the call of Hydaelyn to be so gooooood though!!! Making the heart-wrenching choice of remaining with dearest family or to leave them in order to save both them and the realm? Dear god that's such an emotional story hook fit for a WoL!!

We now live in 2019. A year where gender equality is rising and sexism is to be dismissed. As you may know, young generations are the future and those who will be deciders in the coming years. Also they are the ones who are the main consumers of your products. If the youngest of your players are influenced by such unorthodox thoughts at such early age, these thoughts begin to form the foundation of their opinions of genders, thus forming in as toxic masculinity or other harmful thoughts about minorities. Entertainment business has always been the main influence in shaping thoughts and cultures, and now it can be your place to make an influence. Make both Hrothgar and Viera playable as both male and female genders. It is very harmful to think that women are merely pretty and sexy while men are seen mainly strong and aggressive. You have given us great NPCs in FFXIV that break these roles already, why stop now?

Please make the changes that abide the era we live in now, not what we lived in decades ago.

Ok, by that same token Au'ra couldn't be the warrior of light either as they weren't around in 1.0 when the warrior of light was initially selected. How does that work? :rolleyes:

The male miqo'te "lore" is just an excuse for why they don't want male miqo'te as player characters. If you consider, they are saying males are secluded from the world and taught to not know anything about the world. Sound familair to how women used to be treated? Just because someone wrote it doesn't mean its good.

I'm sure lalafells would be happy about the change in target.

I am not unsubbing from the game due to the gender locks - I think they are a bad idea, but I am not discarding the entire game due to them. I am disappointed, but still. I would be extremely happy if we could see the genderlock removed eventually. I have a bunch of alts and was really looking forward to playing a male viera, and I personally would adore being a female ronso! I play Charr on Guild Wars 2 and I played female tauren on WoW. I enjoy beast races, but gender lock is a no-go from me.

I am down to have male viera.

Yeah, these societies are sexist. So what? The game portrays war, people being despoiled because of other people, people sacrificed in the name of beliefs and so on, just like in the real world, why would they need to refrain from displaying something just because if doesn't stick to your ideals?

I have been holding onto one Phantasia for years in hopes Viera would be added. When Viera was finally announced I was SO HAPPY. However I was worried you showed female only. I thought it was a tease because after all you got rid of gender locking from the 1.0 races. You also slipped in lore in game of males existing l, although rare. In hindsight you likely meant for it to dissuade me however it only made me more hopeful.

Seeing that the race was locked from my gender really really sucked. While it was not the intention I am sure for me it also hurt the FF14 brand. I have been playing nonstop since 2.0. And paid over $800 in sub fees alone (my wife too). I know it is a lot of work, and I still love the game and am playing it. I feel a little silly for being so passionate about it.

Please reconsider gender locking races. I won't ask for another one again I promise!

It's fine to have lore saying that Male Viera are breeding machines. That is character background. It's not fine to not let your male player-base choose to be one of those Male Viera because of that reason.

But that doesn't stop people wanting to make stories about that, right!! We don't even know if they're barely a thing because many other races haven't seen them! That's so cool. Imagine roleplaying a male viera in a tribe that stays in the wood in those towering wood villages. Enchanting as hell! Or imagine having a male viera who leaves for one reason or another. How many outrageous rumors they'd encounter and have to deal with? The culture shock?

Tbh your posts are my favorite. I’m glad you understand how many of us just wanted to have an exciting time. I’d already had a male Viera OC all planned out, and honestly being limited to a feminine body type isn’t gonna stop me from making him haha

With respect, having only female Viera has been the most disappointing announcement of the game since I started playing (during ARR). I will obviously keep playing. However, I along with a huge portion of the player base has been wanting Viera for SO long. For it to be locked to a gender I, and many others don’t identify or relate to in a RPG is crushing.

Now I HAVE to have my male viera escaping the wood by swimming away, and being rescued by Eorzean fishers.

One thing that bears repeating: the Ronso have plenty of women featured in FFX, the choice to genderlock them and offer the males up as a 'balance' to the lack of male Viera is insulting to every person who loved FFX and the Ronso long before XIV was even a thing.

If the devs had simply done both genders of the Ronso/Hrothgar I would have been content, or if they had done both genders of the Viera. Instead they are going to release two unfinished races in Shadowbringers, infuriating everyone including me. 6.0, even the pathces in my view would be to little to late. The Devs shouldn't launch ShB with two rushed unfinished new races, either drop one and finish the other, or put in the time and effort to finish both.

S'yeah, it was really disappointing to not have any male Viera. I was really hoping for a shota-esque race (ala Alphinaud), because this game is FILLED with SUPER BUFF male characters (unless you wanna count Lalafell, lol), I don't think it's wrong to want a cute male race for once. But genderlocking is an outdated concept that is non-inclusive. Even Yoshi'P himself said that genderlocking is dumb and we all assumed it would never happen again. Then again, Yoshi'P contradicting himself is pretty much a constant by now.
