Aren't the subscribers on said platform the reason to make it available? I raised the point because it's the first line of the OP.

Yes and no. If they made the game for everybody that had a console, they'd just waste money producing it. They're targetting the PS3 because they promised a PS3 version and want to hold to their promise. It's definately a reason, but it's not the reason. Otherwise theyd make a 360 version.
My first reaction was to agree, but on second thought... My computer installs new program versions at least once a week. Sometimes these are no problem, but there are those updates that mess with your system. For example, a recent update to Norton360 blocked all my addresses so I couldn't click on anything. Took a while to get it unblocked. I still don't know what it did. I think it somehow glitched the browzer. So, yea, you can expect to always have to mess with a PC.
And I just bought a PS3 so I can try both systems. I know my computer works fine, so I will mostly be checking the PS3 version to see if it runs just as well.
PS2 was a very popular choice for NA also. I knew plenty of people who didn't play till the PS2 release because their PC couldn't handle it. One thing that did equal out the playing field that while not difficult, the network adaptor and setup on PS2 was a tad trivial to some. With the advances in technology, getting online on a console is simple as can be, and in the case of FFXIV, a much more convenient option, not the best, but convenient.
Well look at it this way also, to stay up to date on a PC, you are always having to upgrade something 1-2 years down the road to keep up with games. PS3 has been out since 2006 and we are just now hearing rumors everywhere on the PS4. That is a 7+ year machine that has been able to run your games without the hassle of upgrading the machine itself. Now look how far graphic cards, RAM storage, and processing power has improved since 2006. Some people buy consoles knowing it will last the long run. PC's are better, but they are a commitment, consoles are not. This is an ideal that may pass as generations come by, but for now, consoles will always dominate the market for convenience being one of the reasons.
I have to disagree, not everyone that's interested in this game will consider playing it on PC. Believe it or not, there are those who are still waiting for it to be released on ps3 to play at all. So are you saying SE should just ignore that group of potential subscribers?
I updated my PC once in the last ten years, for FFXIV. Everything played fine til then. It really depends on the parts you buy. Some of the old ATI cards still compete with newer cards, same for Nvidia. You're not wrong though, they bring new stuff out almost every week. Whether it's a gpu or cpu, or just some ram. I guess it boils down to how much time you have, and how much you're willing to research.
Which is what the Op wants to start which at least 85% of this thread is against thus this thread and its meaning at all was defeated. Its only kept alive by those now battling the network on the Ps3 which is the game will be played so in short we want the Ps3 but a better network on the system to play it
My point was to really say that what platform the game was released on first really has no bearing on whether SE should consider other platforms. Not everyone will rush out and buy a game on the first platform it's released on for various reasons. Some gamers just prefer to play games on a console and will never consider playing on PC, and vice versa. For SE to reach as many subscribers as possible, they need to cast a wide net.
