Actually its going to be a 72 hour hold so they won't be playing for a little while.

take the weekend off and do stuff with your family. You know you didn't do anything wrong so come tuesday your account will probably be released and you will continue to make insane amounts of money for no reason whatsoever.
So now the bots and RMTs are gonna cap at 9,999,999 gil.
If you think everyone with over a million gil is somehow abusing the system you have an incredibly narrow-minded view. I move millions of gil worth of product on the market boards daily and I buy or farm all of my own materials.
Not to mention, those "win sellers" are completely legal. There's nothing in the ToS against selling a run to someone. What harm does it do that those with plenty of gil can pay a group of players to run them through something? They can sell their sword just like I can sell my hammer.
This is not even a lot of gil, such a cap would be ridiculous. There are items that sell for 1/5th of that cost on their own.
If it happened to me, I would also be rather angry. That aside, it's also a piss-poor business and PR decision. Nothing pisses off your customers faster than barring them from services they paid for while accusing them of being cheaters based quite literally on nothing.
Imagine your ISP mass-banning every customer who exceed an arbitrary (and low) amount of bandwidth, and accuses every one of them of illegally downloading/distributing copy ghted material.
I'm quite sure your reaction won't be "lol, just relax man".
hope this problem gets solved. Glad I only have 100K gil, but whatever... this is more than bad.
Eh? I think most of you misunderstood me. I meant the people who got banned. SE have tools to track money transactions.
I don't believe they'll ban many innocents (can happen, but it's very unlikely), and I don't believe they ban someone who has a lot of money just because he has a lot of money.
half of my FC got banned for having too much gil. We happened to be the first FC that could craft HQ crafter gear and managed to make a large amount of money off it. At least one of the members got banned for selling lots of jewelry. The fact that they are banning based on amount of gil is a huge issue
I would like to make several points,
First on the claim that people are being banned only for large amounts of gil. I want to call propaganda on that. I've seen multiple spammers disappear off of my black list in the past couple of days. I think the hammer is coming down and the gil sellers are getting nervous. If I were them the first thing I would do is make SE's efforts out to be a clusterf***, get the community up in arms and out for blood, and tie the company's hands.
Second, if your account is on hold then there must be a reason. You ended up in the RMT food chain somewhere and SE is trying to figure out how and why. Be patient. Unless you are obviously guilty, the worst that can happen is you lose a couple days. It's worth it in the long run.
Finally, we all asked for this over and over. Now that something is being done, we turn into a bunch of children. Stick it out and let this get sorted out before we bust out the nails and the cross. RMT HAS to stop.
Very rarely do innocent people get suspended for such a reason. Usually this outcome is due to affiliations with "less than savory" players who legitimately abuse the system. Again, this is rare but not unheard of, and sometimes the people affected don't even know it.
Mass wiping of certain players usually means the company HAS evidence to back up their suspicions. You'd be surprised how many people THINK they can get away with illegal activity in-game. Game Masters do have tools and do use them, and they know more than what people think they know. I used to be a GM for another game many years ago, and I've worked with other teams on various projects since then. I know what people are capable of and what can be done to remedy situations.
It would have been just too stupid of them.
I can't believe they did something so dumb without checking first.
-Sorry double post-
So hundreds of people are posting here and on reddit that they have been temporary banned, all with the same reason: Having too much gil on their character (for whatever reason). I guess everyone is lying and doing something shady. How about we start a new thing: Does ANYONE have over 10million gil on a NON-Legacy server, and have you not been suspended?
We all have asked for a solution, but we did not ask for the solution to be: Ban anyone (innocent or not) in order to try to combat RMT. Rather we asked for the solution to be to get rid of RMT and not involve innocent players in the process. If the only way Square Enix can handle RMT is by banning everyone over XXX threshold of gil, then they have many more problems coming their way.
Edit: I am not saying that I disagree with you on your points, obviously their are a lot of steps / measures that must be taken to weed out the RMT. But what Square Enix did is they basically just said "HEY, GREAT IDEA, lets temporarily ban everyone over XX amount of gil on non-legacy servers and THEN figure out how we are going to sort out this mess"
"Second, if your account is on hold then there must be a reason. You ended up in the RMT food chain somewhere" --> If this WAS the cause, I would not even be posting. The reason I am so agitated, is because I know for a fact they just banned over a certain threshold of gil. I have not played on my Gilgamesh character in over two weeks. EVERY item I sold was on the auction house, unless it was to my personal friends or FC, and those items never amounted to more than 100K. How do I know this? Because I never crafted/sold a two star recipe. The highest item's that I EVER sold were relic weapons for 100-150k when people just started hitting 50 and were in a rush to get their weapon. And this was when the servers were just barely opened. Sure, you could say that someone bought gil to purchase that relic from me, but 100-150k for a relic is a price that nearly every level 50 had obtained just by leveling to 50, of course they were dirt poor afterwards.
Secondly, my friend did the same EXACT thing as me. Except he's not banned. Want to know why? Because while I kept saving my 10-15million gil that I made, he blew most of his on getting the two-star gear crafted / HQ'ed. Right now, he's sitting on less than 5 million gil and he is not banned. HE DID have over 10million gil, just like I did. He did participate in the same exact sales I participated in. But he is not suspended and I am.
Cool! I'm safe as I only have 200k even though I play 10 hours a day
I have 10k gil. I'm safe.
I know it sucks for the legit players that amassed over 8 mil, but this is a move that is going to benefit the economies of the servers as a whole. Placing a temp ban on all players with that much cash allows SE to take the weekend and find out who the legit players are and who are the RMT banks. Legit players go back to playing and ban hammer to the banks removing a ton of gil the RMTs have amassed out of circulation from the economies. Just bear it because if RMTs run rampant then we will see heavy inflation down the road and those stacks of gil you've hoarded won't be worth near as much. Let SE take care of this now BEFORE it becomes to large of a problem.
I never said anyone was up to anything shady necessarily but RMT is a tangled web that connects a lot of people. Their items and money have circulated everywhere. It takes thorough investigation to track these people down. Some people may have bought marketplace items from known botters by accident, received payment from a known botter, or they may indeed be lying. It could be any number of things, but it's not just arbitrary punishment by an either incompetent or spiteful company.
Please don't think that I am downplaying yours or anybody else's bad experience, I'm not. I know how frustrating it is to be unable to play. But the saber rattling is NOT going to help. It's just going to force the company to sit back down on it's hands for fear of inciting people.
Weeding out the bots is all a part of the process, don't blame the doctor for stitching the knife wound in your side, blame the person who stabbed you, if I may use the analogy.
4.3m atm (probably total of ~7m after calculating the amount I paid for materia/tome items) from selling Titan runs/relic pre-cursors and I didn't get touched. I'm guessing the automated ban number is something very high like 10m+ for non-legacy servers.
because someone use exploit to dupe Allagan Gold Pieces
Guys relax. SE are doing what they can to sort RMT out. People scream do something now!!! So SE is now doing something. Just because you don't understand fully what is going on shouldn't be a reason to start raving. If they suspended my account for a few days to check logs and caught some RMT and banned them i would be glad. So what if i lose a few days. SE would probably give them me back and if they didn't so what.
I understand though some of you want things done now as long as it doesn't effect you in any way.
Not for nothing, but people who believe that SE would ban paying customers just because they amassed a lot of gil by normal and not shady means deserves to be banned for stupidity. They obviously have logs and they can easily determine what's what. People lie, especially the kind of people who do bannable things.
complete bs
not a single person has been banned for the amount of gil they possess
stop spreading rumors, the people in question were banned for botting to harvest or craft
Blaming the victim, eh?
Ask around on your server. Find someone not banned who has 10 million gil or more. You won't, because SE seriously banned everyone with 10 million gil.
Well, it's too soon to tell regardless, one way or another. What can I say? What happened to you sucks and that's a fact. However, it would be best to reserve our judgments until we see the results of this move. It is extreme, mind you. I don't argue that but if it cuts down on the RMT overall and only costs a few people a couple days of their time then it will have been worth it. and if it goes south? Go to town, heads and pikes all around.
Believe me, I get it. After all the server issues and login issues, it's really salt in the wound when stuff like this happens. I haven't made it super far into the game, only a couple level 30 classes so far, so I can't yet imagine the effort it took you to get your battle classes and crafting classes to the cap. I'm sure there is a great amount of anxiety associated with SE holding on to peoples characters. So, I hope they get you and everybody else looked over and back into the fray ASAP, minus a few parasites.
Just hang in there. :)
The reason for the mass ban is holding further transactions so they can pull the gil that has been tainted by RMT out of the economy, much like they did in FFXI. Any account that has touched any RMT gil, knowingly or not will likely be effected.
I've just had my account suspended too.
I'm sure many of you wont believe this, but I have Never used any 3rd party program to cheat in Any game, I also have Never RMT'd in any game.
This evening I logged in and had sold a HQ Crafted 2 star Robe for 1.25mil on the in game Market. This was crafted by me and totally all legitimately, mats bought from the market etc.
I then logged off, 1 hour later I tried to re-log and my account is now suspended...
Anyone who has played FFXI for a good while knows how the SE banhammer works. If somewhere in the transaction log there is a large sum of money from an RMT source given to you, guess what? Banhammer! So you sold services and whatnot for large amounts of coin, perhaps someone decided they would buy gil to fund it, then right away, they turn around and give you the gil for your service. Well, byebye to your account. Now, these are not instabans, but they are suspensions or holds on your account. A simple call to SE verifying that you are a legit player and not an RMT with a stolen account or account created using false information (they may ask for a copy of your ID), will restore your account. A gil seller wouldn't contact SE, because the account is bogus to begin with. To those who were / are mercing titan wins, beware as some who buy your win, are buying gil to pay for it which WILL flag your account.
MM I've been suspended as well. Never botted, bought or sold gil. Pretty angry right now.
I've sold 30-40 pieces of Star 2 items. Even when my account gets restored I'm going to be pissed still.
Have a great weekend.(For those that can play)
So they're only banning players with a lot of gil? Nothing to worry about here then....
*cries softly in a corner*
To the people saying they have been SUSPENDED, not banned, for possible links to RMT, this doesn't mean that you yourself bought/sold gil etc. It just means that somewhere along the line, you sold/bought items, knowingly or unknowingly, form someone who either bought gil, bought crystals from someone who bought them for $, or something along those lines.
It's crappy that you've been suspended, but look at it in a real world scenario. You buy a TV either from a pawn/second hand shop, or from a newspaper advertisment, only to have the police track it down through sales records after having found out it was stolen, and question you over recieving stolen goods, and taking said TV from you with no compensation. It's similar to that, even though you unknowingly participated in RMT by selling to someone who bought gil, they still have too investigate your account as part of the RMT web.
I've got a lot of gil, nothing so far, but I'm also not botting or doing anything wrong. Just playing the game and saving my gils for a house. :)
