all I like see inventory wise is gear tab this fix a lot gear probs
On your person I think 100 is probably enough. Although I do not see why you should not be able to put more on your retainers. It is not like they are carrying stuff around with them. I think retainers should have 200 slots for storage. Also the amount of items a retainer can sell should be increased too.
I am crafting now actually. And I do it smartly. I sell of stuff I do not need at the moment. I can always go out and hunt items I need. I do not hoard everything. I also try and use gear labled "all classes" that way I can freely switch w/o worry.
You guys are subjected to hoarding. A pretty common thing. You hold any and all items feeling one day you will need it. instead of selling it off and hunting it a later day. Hunting items is something to do in game.
Leveling isn't always about becoming stronger it is also about making lower stuff easier.
I really think you have a point. :) I wonder if the more you craft the easier this gets. Because right now I am hording all the stuff I need for later ranks, which in truth is a good idea right? I mean I will never every last one of those items to make the ranks.
Equipment should not take up inventory slots. If they changed that, I'd probably be fine, but I would still like to see some sort of mass storage like a fat chocobo that can hold 999 items or something similar.
the less you craft what you collect the more crap you end up with
im doing 7 crafts right now, soon to be 6(due to finishing them) and i only save mats i need for leveling itself
with the exception of cooking cuz that takes up WAY too much room.
the problem is people save everything that can be crafted period, regardless of if they can use it cuz it can br crafted eventualy, and thats where they run out of room
or they are doing all their combat first and gathering, and will craft when/if they finish them all, in which case no one can save you from that mess lol
For every slot of storage space you request you are making the game more expensive to operate because all that crap has to reside on a server somewhere, and at the moment you are playing a game that is FREE. In addition, every expansion of storage requires coding, which takes man-hours away from more significant changes, such as a new battle system and dungeons. (No disrespect to any female software engineers, if any exist.)
An INFINITE amount of storage, c'mon.... I mean...come on! How much crap can you possibly be toting around. If you are that desperate, created a 2ry char, there's another 300 slots right there. It's free, for now, and the code is already written.
Honestly, I'd be fine with gear just taking 0 space. Or, rather, with it having its own area. Gear seriously takes up over half my inventory.
this is cool too, I like this. Current problem not apply to casual players or one-class player, but it apply to those who play multiple class and keep playing now.. SE always try to ask players to play many classes, so they should support them with more inventory. When somebody play this DoH, they ask you that you must play that DoH or else you can't craft many gear, and when you start that DoH, they lock you with another DoH again.. T_T
I currently use about 420 spaces counting the items I hold on my other character. Most of it is various ores, gems, nuggets, logs, branches and important mats that you just don't throw away. I counted up the other day, I have about 800 iron nuggets with the mats to make about 2200 more. That's about 30 inventory just on iron due to various qualities of ores. Then there's mats saved for later such as radiant moraines and some broken gear that needs vintaging.
So I'd like 500 space. Problem is when the rank cap goes up and new mats like ebony, darksteel, platinum etc. are added as well as more jobs ranked up with optimal gear I'm going to need more space.
600 should do it for me, Yeah I said it, 600.
Let's tell you the problem:
1. XIV will be on a console.
2. Consoles are limited memory wise and can't draw up and access infinite space. Do you think game designers purposefully design inventories to have an ultimate limit just to mess with you?
3. MMOs have infinite space but they ALSO have a counter weight, e.g Bag Size, Weight Limit, "Strength limit" and so on, so its infinite, but not.
Good going for you if you can continue to manage your inventory so smartly. ^^
I hope you don't run into problems with inventory space after playing for a few months and trying to level up 4 or more different crafts, and maybe get to a point where people regularly ask for your help to make items (where you may find it is necessary to have certain very basic materials on hand instead of hunting market wards for every single small item you need every time - many of which aren't available), and continue to play different battle classes as well and keeping weapons and armor for those too.
You people that want more storage just go get more retainers, just that when you have to pay for this game your real life wallet will also have a lot more space.
Problem solved ingame and out, more storage for XIV and more storage for real life.
the way i manage my inventory right now
Inventory: enough equipment for one dow and a set that functions for both dol and doh, everything else is crafting items to sell or use.
retainer 1: completely filled with crafting stuff for bazaars
retainer 2: equipment that I will use now or in the future when i level another class. When i have outranked the armor/weapon in every class i am going to use it for i sell it
Basically the problem right now is that they made way way way too much stuff required to craft and then they made +1,2 and 3 versions of nearly all of it, I would be fine with even more inventory space but how much of it can they add before A) it becomes a serious pain to manage
B) it becomes problematic for them to store all that data for everyone.
I'd be much happier with a reduction to the amount of STUFF we have to use to craft and taking +numbered components out of the game.
Plus i wouldnt be throwing away any and all food.
It would be nice to be able to play for a long time without selling items to the NPC. I suggest pushing the available memory to the limit for inventory space. In offline FFXIII it seems like you can hold an infinite amount in your inventory, and that's on PS3.
I'd be more worried about their database servers than the consoles
This is what I think on this topic.
The 100 inventory space we have and our 100 per retainer is more then enough BUT this is what needs to be done
- make it so gear that is equiped on our characters does not take up inventory space until unequiped
- Make a seperate tab for Crafting items and possibly consumables
With these changes the inventory we are allowed is thus expanded without actually expanded. Gear alone takes up a big chunk of our inventory because for those who like to switch on the fly you'd have full gear for your current class aswell as full gear for your other 1-2 classes you use most all hording your inv. Ontop of that you have the countless +0/1/2/3s cluttering up the remainder of your space.
I think we have more than enough inventory, but I really wish they would remove +1, +2, and +3 materials and just keep the finished products/parts have varying qualities. Parts like sleeves and stuff should still have varying qualities but having varying qualities on materials just means your inventory gets super cluttered. If anything, I think we might have too much inventory.
Well I guess for the time being you guys will just have to watch the show "hoarders" hopefully that will help you out.
Edit: If i was SE I would increase the prices on these "extra" retainers when they do get released, since they look like there gonna be a big hit for the item hoarders.
Yeah, because forcing people to pay more for an already failing game is going to help convince people they should play.
Gil is worthless in this game. Your biggest assets are your materials. Getting rid of them for worthless gil only for you to have to go farm them a week or two later is retarded. I have better things to do with my time.
If the game hasn't already convinced you wouldn't be playing, I'm sure in the eyes of SE this project is not profitable they might as well make some money on it as they as already missed their chance to get the big player numbers even with the release of the PS3 version word of mouth and reviews aren't going to help them sell this game. Even if SE conjures up a meteor using the black magic to blow up Blizzard(company), even then I doubt they would have a chance.
Your Gil can buy you the materials, so its not that useless it may cost more but since its useless to you might as well use it. Unless your also in the business of collecting Gil, much like your items.
Does anyone more knowledgeable than I know how much space inventory takes up on a hard drive? Even if they gave everyplayer 10,000 inventory slots, I don't see it taking up more than a couple GB of info per server.
I don't know all of the mechanics behind it but I don't think the issue is hard drive space, I believe it's more a memory issue. A lot of MMOs actually battle with inventory issues, even the titan World of Warcraft has a hard time implementing larger inventories because of technical reasons.
