This helps A LOT. It doesn't make the problem completely go away but it does make it a lot better.
Can you add anything about what this means exactly? Does the game / is the game supposed to dynamically determine the number of things to display based on system performance? Why not just let the user be able to control it instead?Quote:
Display prioritization adjustments
FFXIV: ARR has been designed with a system to display the appropriate number of characters while maintaining non-laggy conditions even when there are a large amount of players centralized in a location. However, even though this system is working, for these two FATE there is an issue where Odin and Behemoth are not being displayed. In order to resolve this issue, we'll be putting in a separate system specifically for these two FATE, and addressing it so the enemies are displayed properly even during times of congestion.
And why do these adjustments need to be made specifically for two fates? Why can't the whole display priority system be adjusted? Shouldn't enemies, which are a threat to you, have a higher display priority than other players?
Glad to see that there is a response, hopefully this will be taken care of soon. Also, please make it to were raising people counts towards credit. As a WHM this is the majority of the time spent on these fates.
How likely are you to run into these issues in the other 98% of the game? You never run into the issue you do with Odin/Behemoth/Svara because pretty much the entire server tries to rush out to these specific ones which you then run into the issue. It's fine in most of the game, which is why they specifically mention where the issue happens.
Its not just them FATEs its the same all over the game! My personal opinion is that mobs should take priority then team members then everyone else not the other way around. I get fed up of doing FATEs were I can not see the mobs or my team mates. Making it hard to heal my team or do damage then I get no reward cause i could not do anything! your culling system needs to be sorted!
Sounds like a good start, but there are two other things that need to be addressed as well:
* Monsters blinking out of view can happen on other fates: Svara's Fall, etc.
* Party members can blink out of view/become untargetable on many of these fates as well, which for a healer/rezzer, is an even bigger deal than not being able to target Odin/Behemoth. Party members should also be prioritized above all other players.
My favorite part about FATES is going to them and not being able to fight anything but I have a clear view of the 20+ people arounds chocobos.
Thanks for the heads up Camate.
The issue happens on all the fates during peak hours for ps3 users. I'm not sure how bad it is on PC. But for ps3, i can't even do fates on friday saturday or sunday due to this problem. No idea who the fool was that decided i should see other things like Minions, chocobos, summons and other players not even inside my party before seeing enemies... This system is not working well with how these things are prioritized. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to change, but then again i don't know programming. Just PLEASE fix this as soon as possible. Really killing the game for me. :(
It's not a matter of likelyhood. there are many places in the game where not every mob (meaning mobile, not monster) can be displayed-e.g., the cities, certain camps. The game has some method of prioritizing what gets displayed- if there are too many things to display, it has to decide what to display first, it's as simple as that. All im suggesting is that this priority be adjusted. It will benefit everyone, not just the "2%" of the game you're referring to.
Hopefully this gets fixed soon. I experienced this for the first time today and it was a disaster, failed Odin, died for nothing. Didn't even get to see him.
It's the typical consolization of games getting in the way of proper game design. Yes, it SHOULD be a feature in the options menu, but it won't be.I find it hilarious that the FFXIV client thinks I need to be able to see peoples' goddamn battle chocobos but not Behemoth. "even though this system is working" my ass.Quote:

I would like to add that it's not just those 2 FATEs as well. In Quarrymill tonight i had to give up after my 3rd or 4th fate where i never even saw 1 mob pop. For mages with AoE it's fine.. They can just spam the hell out of their AoE and hit something. But on my lancer if i can't see the mob, i have no clue what to do. The only way i've found to deal with this is to target players and spam mouseover/target's target macros on them. But that should not be the solution. Please do not only make the changes to behemoth/odin fates. Again, it seems to happen to all where there are a lot of people around. Another thing, along the same vein as this, When it's all laggy like this, my animations don't process. The ability fires, mob takes damage, but sometimes i'll go entire fights without seeing animations, then afterwards they'll all happen at once. I love this game, I just wish these issues would get worked out so i can have a pleasant gaming experience.
Edit: Oh, one more thing, it's not just fates either, I've run into areas and died to invisible mobs before they popped on screen as well.
It's nice to hear that something is gonna be done, but this doesn't change the fact that rendering priorities are messed up and not as they SHOULD be. Monsters and Party members should always be the highest priority to display at EACH AND ANY given time, not just at Behemoth and Odin...why anybody would even think that it shouldn't be this way and intentionally design it that way is just ridiculous.
Going to let you in on a secret: This game is filled with terrible design decisions.
I'm not saying it isn't fun and isn't capable of providing entertainment, but there are so many illogical or flat-out unacceptable choices running under the hood of this game that it makes me sad how much effort was wasted remaking it.
diasble name tags helps alot pc and ps3
I agree with everything here. FATES are very I enjoyable because of this. My question a can you do something to ignore pets? So you don't target other?
my first behemoth was such a let down.. he couldnt be seen. and all i did was die three times.. from nothing that i could discern.. what a let down
I posted this on a different thread a few weeks ago. It is very much an issue.
On the PS3 here... Stood around watching people do something in a large group.... several minutes in, Behemoth popped up and I attacked him for a couple seconds. No animation, just a still behemoth. Then my character just dies...Behemoth was no longer visible...I get raised....and I sat there and waited and received a few grand company tickets and a behemoth horn... at least I got the horn.
I read the post from the admin just now...I'd like to note that the issue (on PS3 at least) is not just a few FATEs but just about any FATEs where a large amount of mobs or people are. When I'm in a FATE group, I usually enter and stand still for 10-20 seconds waiting for things to appear....and by the way, party effects are all turned to the lowest possible setting.
As others have said I don't see how this is going to help my wife playing on ps3 will often lose sight of me or enemies all over the place, in or out of fates where there are a lot of people, now she has gotten to 38 and in coethas areas, this is very prevalent.
Display priority needs to be set, was this not learnt from 1.0 with retainers and quest npcs not appearing.
I have had a level 50 since release and I haven't even bothered going near Behe/Odin etc. I am not even going to bother trying until something is fixed, because from what i have heard/read it is a massive waste of time and a stressful non-event that is over in a quick zerg flash. We know this is only going to get worse as more people hit the 50 mark on each server...
My suggestion would be to make 3 versions of each (i.e. 3 Behemoths) and make them pop simultaneously in about 3 different zones. This way not everyone is piling into the same FATE, and at least some of the congestion will be eased.
As a workaround in the meantime following these steps can alleviate most of the issues:
1. Open Character Configuration menu. (Hotkey: K)
2. Select Name Display tab.
3. Select Hide from the drop down at the top to hide all names.
Turning this to Hide during one of those congested fates and then turning it back to your normal setting when done works wonders. It is a bit of an inconvenience to have to do, more-so if you use a custom name display set-up, but its worth doing to allow you to see the boss all of the time.
Other things you can do to help:
-turn off flying text
-set graphical effects to Show None for yourself, party members, and/or others
-turn off showing effects while in motion
I've found these to be less useful than the name display, but they do help a bit. If you're looking for just one thing you can easily turn off, go with names. These others are useful if you find that name display isn't enough. Source: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...th_fix_inside/
Sounds like a band aid and not a proper fix, you should just admit that FATEs were a mistake, just like retainers and the crappy marketwards.
Okay, so you took care of the 2 biggest FATEs. Now fix the actual problem and change the loading priority to prioritize monsters over other players, companions, and egis. I would much rather see fate monsters than a bunch of chocobos and tiny ifrits.
Same happens with Svara etc.. I can't heal anyone. It's a pain in the behind.
So Im on the PS3, have never seen either of these fates. And I still have an issue with models displaying... I don't even need to be in a fate, I can just be running around and I have to wait for npc's to appear in some areas. And yes in fates it gets much worse. But this is a worldwide problem, not just a specific event problem
It's good to hear that the issue is being acknowledged and worked on but...seriously? They're only going to do it for those two fates, specifically? Even if it doesn't have an impact on other FATEs, or not as much of an impact (plenty of people have experienced these same symptoms on Svara as well) why wouldn't it be an across the board change? An emphasis on Player > Monster > Party Member prioritization would in no way harm other FATEs, and the way it stands now only serves to be detrimental if more players do show up for them.
There is no reason for this not to be the way it works for all activities in the game. It'd be silly if it wasn't.
At the very least, give us the option to disable other players minions/summons/etc, if nothing else but for targeting reasons.
As a PS3 owner, the very thought that Yoshida and his team were aware of this and sold the game to us anyway.....I don't want to go there, I just don't.
Please be excited for PS4.
So much whining, they're aware of the issue and are working on a solution for the 2 FATEs that are actually an issue (other FATEs with multiple mobs it's much easier to still find mobs, and Svara is in a much smaller area and rarely gets moved all over the place, making it much easier to find).
I would like to see monster > party member > other prioritisation too, but did you guys ever consider that that may be a much bigger fix than you think? It could mean that each model has to have an identification tag on it in a category that doesn't exist, meaning they would have to go through the entire game's files and modify every single enemy or some shiz like that. At the end of the day, it's still damn easy to get gold in just about any FATE (aside from Behemoth and Odin), and even if you CAN get gold consistently in Odin and Behemoth, the gear from them is crap anyway...
