Same problem I am having , I have no problems with the mini bosses or previous dungeons but I just seem to get hit every time, I have watched videos of other pld doing it and I am getting hit where they are not. I am no where near in the damn red lines yet poof I get hit and it not like I am diddling around.. I run out as soon as the attack comes up.

See my earlier post and just continuously strafe left and right a little bit and you should be okay.

The way I handle this as tank makes it not so bad.

Tank him right next to the wall
Have the DPS and healer stand behind him also against the wall (like right behind him up in his tail)
Move him clockwise against the wall to get out of poison

the reason for this is that he will pick 1 random person to shoot the poison at, with this method, if he shoots at the dps/heals, you only gotta move him justa little bit to get him (and the dps/heals) out of the poison, if he shoots at you, you just gotta move him a tad bit further

I think either there is some kind of lag that is showing up with the duty finder as we get more and more players or they just haven't corrected the animation/action syncing for some enemies, as the dragon breath in particular is way too quick and registers you as taking a hit way too often. I think this is the only enemy where it has been an issue for me.

Yes that what is so dang frustrating I do not have any trouble avoiding special attacks etc with any of the previous mob or bosses in all the previous content but at this rate I will not be able to continue with my story quest because of this one boss, I would also bet I would not have trouble with later dungeon or bosses, my wife who is a cnj also keeps running out of mp when we get the boss down to 1/4 life then we wipe. Sucks I have been tanking for in DDO for a long time and never had trouble like this.

I have noticed that my cinematic always starts about 5 or 10 seconds after the cinematic starts on my wife pc so I am worried it's some kind of delay we can't do much about.

Longstop was "overtuned" according to the devs in phase 3 and was piss easy once you knew what to do, it's a wake up call to all the people moaning "the game is too easy" after they nerfed the sub lv20 solo story content, having a melee just means you might have to move more often, nothing else. This dungeon is not hard, this boss is not hard, incompetent people on the other hand...

Also I've never seen the second boss have blaze spikes up, ever. Guess you're just unlucky with this dungeon or the groups you get.

He has an attack...I think it's called Vicious Fang or something, that's separate from his auto attacks and poisons you when used. If you let the poison stack to 4 stacks, he'll start using it on other party members, which is why it's important to have the healer remove the poison as soon as it hits. Not to mention the poison will get stronger with more stacks, which translates to more damage taken by you.

My beef is that if you have a SCH healing the group you're screwed out of poison removal because the dungeon is capped at lv34 but SCH doesn't get Leeches until lv40.

That the egos decided to whine that the game was too easy is none of my concern, because deriving self-worth from video games when not in the context of setting world records or getting world-first clears is idiotic, to say the least.

Which again goes to my point of the poison patches not dissipating fast enough in situations where more movement is required.

Mechanically, in a vacuum, the boss is not hard. It's your standard faire of "avoid the frontal attack, kite boss around room". The main problem is that again, the poison patches make maneuvering iffy when you have melee, and the boss has a stacking poison that can't be removed by SCH.

If you want an overall assessment, damage output needs to be toned down a bit throughout the whole instance. It's so easy to die in Longstop it's not even funny.

The second boss does get Blaze Spikes at one point in the fight. One of the healers I was with also noticed it and was telling me "so that's why you were taking so much damage".

Well quality is a little meh after cutting video but here it is. 0 breaths taken on last boss. War POV(at the moment of this post part 3 is still uploading). Hoping this helps tanks having a hard time with it. This is the 17th run in a pug i did yesterday, was a little sleepy since it was like 5am but anyways.

If you run out of room, then it's down to the DPS being slow as hell and spreading the pools too close to the boss.

I've seen some people doing a really bad job at placing themselves properly, which will cause a wipe, or at least making the fight much harder than it has to be.

The point is to dump the pools either in one area or dump them right next to each other by placing yourselves close to where the last pool got dumped. I'd say this fight is a hundred times easier than what wow's Grobbulus was in Naxx 40, and dumbed down 25/10m version of him and i've cleared Naxx on all settings a fair few times myself. :P

Blaze Spikes = Stop hitting the darned thing. If you continue to hit it, then yeah, you'll end up doing the same thing a Bard in my team did yesterday, he killed himself by continuing to nuke the boss. I'm not 100% sure, but i also believe that by hitting the boss while it's up, you extend the timer on it, just don't quote me on that one :P

I'd agree if the target were given something like 3 seconds to place themselves before the dragon actually spits (thereby completely copying how the poison cloud mechanic from Grobbulus worked). Right now you have about a second or so as the dragon turns to you, spits and then the pool hits you. It's not a problem for me but it does affect how other players place themselves.

As I mentioned, I got lucky had the dragon spitting mostly on the BRD and healer that kept at distance over the MNK that was in melee range with me.

If you're trying to insinuate that I don't know how to move to avoid the stuff on the ground, I actually do. I'm talking about damage taken even when fighting trash packs. The damage a tank takes in the Longstop compared to Haukke Manor is almost night and day. Especially if you try tanking it at lv32 in lv30 quest gear, as it seems to have been designed and balanced around.

After a lot of read suggestions, this is how I managed to dodge every breath... by standing on the dragon's left foot and going trough it when he casts the breath.

I just run around him in circles. I also have mostly mages/ranged in my party so they line the walls and when ever they get poison spit they move just outside it's range. Now For the circles this creates a cleave roulette so to speak, if your dps/heals is derp they won't notice and will probably die (good way to fuck people who have been a pain in your ass and not listening to you. Move him slowly and deliberately only use long paths when there is too much poison. Also I'm joking about cleave roulette, I tank him from left to right like we are boxing this makes it slightly easier to avoid his breath but can fuck you harder if you mess it up. Unfortunately that method is flawed when you have dps that has positional attacks like a monk or dragoon, which they should be able to adjust themselves to the movements however I tend to find that a few of the monks I've ran through tend to be drama queens about it. Ultimately I'm asking you to move out of the breath before he thinks about it.

So basically.
TANKS) Juke the fuck out of his breath(Is stunnable), guide him just out of the spits in a circular movement, stay alive for the love of Halone! Limit break if required
RDD) Stay out of posion, barely, try and stick to walls an away from the center, burn the bitch. Limit if last portion of boss
MDD) Keep in mind the dragon's position and be weary of his breath attacks, if you happen to notice he's about to spit on you run, and beat the fucker up. Limit break when bars full
Heals) Avoid poison, Cure poison, Stay alive, keep tank alive, keep party alive, and apparently the level 2 limit break can raise the dead?

For those who have trouble healing during trash : try to sleep all additional mobs, it will make healing a cakewalk.

Also, you can sleep the second boss when the adds appear.

Well, I'm a PLD and I tanked the Avaiar 3 or 4 times (in one Brayflox run) last night and died just as many times. So either I suck a tank or this boss is way too hard. I could stay our of his breath maybe two or three times... I'm so sick of this boss it's just not fun anymore. I just can't keep up....

there should be no reason for healers to go OOM if the tank can avoid receiving damage in the first place

I'm pretty sure there's something up with Aiatar's breath attack. After running the place several times last night I found that if I stand close to his base then side-step, or move through him, I would dodge the attack consistently, but if I was farther away then moving to the side only worked if I moved REALLY far away. To me, it behaved more like a Cone than a Line. Anyone else get that feeling?

It's not latency or skill, I know how to move out of zones and I haven't seen any other area/zone attack be this far off from the red zone up to this point.

It's like walkin the dog, course I had 2 very good fc mates and 1 extremely good, albeit energetic healer :).

I started along the farthest point and tanked away from the group, when he spit I provoked or flashed and move. I had full aggro, and kept this up until he was at the bottom of the area near the entrance all told he spit 4 or 5 pools that he never stepped in once.

Pretty simple.

I had trouble. Was in AOE, I moved... 2 seconds later and I'm still being hit by the AOE. And I ran out of room with poison pools. I still beat him but it wasn't easy, and it wasn't my fault. It depends on the team as well and where they position themselves for the poison. If melee DPS is next to boss when he gets hit by pool then it'll be tricky.

This is actually my first instance i enjoyed tanking. Wiped once on Alistar but i blame myself for not moving out of breath. Overall, i do get told a lot of bad tank stories and im one of the better ones. Just seems like common sense and concentration. Maybe doing heroic WoW tanking and not wanting an entire raid pissed off at me or actually feeling bad for causing wipes motivates me to be better. Too bad most other tanks dont understand that.

Not sure if this was mentioned, didn't feel like going through 7 pages. Might do it when I have the time though.

Stand near his front left foot. When he shoots his line breath, you simply just run forward a few and it will completely miss. Perks of this is that the boss turns 180 degrees any time after the attack, meaning the location of his sides will not be affected - your lancers and monks might love you a little more for that. Also completely keeps the attacks into any two directions, keeping his sides as a sort of blind spot.

When running from him if he dropped a pool on a melee unit, as you run around, do throw some Shield Lob/Tomahawk so that you don't lose aggro while the healer is keeping your health up. If you're a Gladiator, use Flash from time to time for the blind, he spends most of the time using physical attacks anyway.
