You shouldn't expect everything and every NM to be "casual friendly." Other people need content that they like too.
Also, perhaps going after it on the first night wasn't a the best idea.

+1.
Time, to me, is precious. If a game makes me waste more than an hour for a single item drop, someone in the dev team *** up.
Seriously? You should be thankful that they are even spawning this fast. At this rate, if you go either tomorrow or the next day there will be no one there and you will be able to get everything you want because everyone in the server will have already got it. :P Your problem is not because the game isn't casual friendly, is that you and your party members just couldn't claim the NM. ;)
Respawns EVERY 5 minutes or less? The NM basically claims you. -Klaus Volka
Dear SilvertearRen,
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.] They made these NMs TOO easy. 3-5 min pops?? That is a joke. There is nothing wrong with being a casual player, but you should be rewarded as such. You can't be a casual player and get the same gear as hardcore players. There needs to be difficulty in obtaining gear to make it challenging to the people who are willing to put in the time and effort. That is the only thing that differentiates hardcore and casual players. This is also just a simple fact about MMO's. There is easy and hard content to please everyone. Moral of the story - You can't expect to get good gear if your not going to put in the time and effort so stop whining.
go QQ some more. The entire MMO genre revolves around NM competition. It's just one of those things that is in every game. WoW? It had competitive NMs. FFXI? Same thing. RoM? Same. Thing. If you can't handle competition for CASUAL content, you should just leave now because if/when NMs get harder and the competition actually becomes competition (8+ people from different LS all after the same mob) then you will probably /wrist because you can't handle not getting spoonfed everything.
All in all you should be rewarded for the work you put into it.
Put no work you get garbage gear.
Put in alot of work you get the best gear in the game.
It is as simple as that.
And these nms are not competition. I remember the days in DA with over 200 people camping it... people here are raging if they are not solo camping a nm that spawn every 3!!!! or so mins.
Wait until SE releases something really good and you have all the big shells all camp it at once. Jps, Eus, and NAs hardcore endgame groups each bringing 2-3 full partys to make sure they get the claims. Then you will see true competition.
If you cannot stand the little bit of competition you see now, you are horribly spoiled by hand holding western mmos and honestly are not in the right the genre. As the poster above me said basically this is what a mmo is all about
The NMs will all be sporadically fought within 2 weeks. Everyone just chill and let the campers have their fun now.
I'm going to make a mule on OP's server and continuously camp the NM she is after. Then, after I get the item, I'm going to camp MORE just so she will eventually ragequit and get out of our game lol
I think I wasted 2 hours of my life reading this crap lol. Im going to bed. XD
People complaining that new content is overcamped and overused is hillarious. Hell I remember when they first introduce the "Adventuring companion" in XI. I waited for hours for my turn in the massive line of people lining up for the instanced fight that could only be done...
One person at a time.
Fail... This is a mmo, if you dont have time, go play a non-mmo game. "period"
MMO = lots of hrs.
Non-MMO = cpl hrs.
And to add, i would have put them at least 15min~ 30min and some more.
What was that one event where it was so bottlenecked to enter a BC dragon fight that we actually formed player-character lines in front of its door instead of all spamming the door? Great moments in MMO history.
'course when someone just ran straight up and went in it all went to hell.
Now, aside from the fact that the OP is complaining about new content being crowded.. which is pretty normal.. I have to point a few things out..
Some of you didn't even realize you've been calling it "work" in the game..
You do not "work" in a game, you play.. it's different..
A game shouldn't be a source of stress.. it should relieve it.. that's the whole purpose of a game being a game and not a job.. in other words.. if I'm being already stressed out by my job why should a game stress me out even more..?
Sometimes the way hardcores speak sounds like as if they were blaming casuals for having a job.. and the message I get is "drop your job or you won't do crap in this game..", that's not very constructive..
true that isn't constructive, but at the same time, it's not a good thing to try and dumb down the game because you don't have time to play. Some of us have more time to play than others and we actually want stuff to do during that time. This is kind of like in FFXI..."hardcore" content were HNMs and such. "Casual" content consisted of Sky, Dynamis, etc. I would like to see something like this in FFXIV. The lesser content will still give good gear, but not as good as the gear that is awarded to those that put more effort into the game due to their lack of time restrictions.
Can people please for the love of God stop generalising & stereotyping 'Hardcore' players and 'Casual' players.
It's old and annoying.
If you only have 2 hours to play a videogame you CANNOT complain that someone who is playing 5 hours + is further than you.
That's not very much the case of FFXI.. I remember you were required to have some gear in order to get invited in a party.. and the one that money could buy wasn't enough.. people there got too elitist about the equipment.. like "if you don't have the best gear you suck.."
It's not about who is further and who's behind.. it's about who can and who cannot..
I don't mind competition like this, in fact I find it rather enjoyable. While I didn't really like Nm's in XI, I liked camping stroper chyme. The competition was fierce but the low repop time made sure that you always got a new chance soon after. With NM's that take hours to pop, it was just too over-the-top. While I am not that casual, I don't feel like wasting my time just waiting for something to happen.
Although, I don't know how the new claiming system will function with these NM's.
Example.
You are playing Final Fantasy IV, but you don't have enough time to level.
You don't complain to the developers saying you don't have enough time to level up and kill the final boss, make it easier pl0x.
I do have to agree with some points made.
Making people grind on monsters to get items isn't a very well thought of idea.
Being a 'Hardcore' player doesn't make you more likely to get it.
It's more or less, if you are a lucky player.
Also --
Since when does camping HNM/NMs make you hardcore?
I'm pretty sure that:
1. They have lots of time on their hands.
2. They're lucky they got there before someone else.
:S
When the OP finally gets the claim/drop it will make the rewards that much more satisfying.
if time is precious, don't play video games. they are time sinks. I understand your point about the fast resapwn rates but do not defend it with your personal constraints because it means shit to the rest of the mmo community. You're not the only person with a wife and career.
Yes, YOU wasted 2 hours of your life. SE never wasted 2 hours of your life. You could have easily gone to the NM spawn point, seen it was busy, then decided to come back at a later time. Instead it's your own greed to get the item asap that is causing your grief. Most people won't even have logged on to try the new content yet and you're crying about not having gotten a new item within the first couple of hours of it being introduced to the game.
It's not about being casual or hardcore, it's about having a little bit of common sense
LOL @ THIS THREAD HAHAHA. OP, you are an idiot, go play WOW or rift. If they listened to you I would quit this game instantly.
I want everything instanced so I feel like I'm playing a FPS or single player game and not a MMO teehee!!
I must say, this is the funniest bout of rage I've read on this forum. And ironix, in a tragic sort of way, that he claims he wasted time while playing a game(which wastes time).
There is an Aesop here, somewhere.
You don't need really need that item, so don't feel like you have to camp NMs. Personally, I like contested claims and they were one of my favorite parts about FFXI.
This is going to sound condescending but I really don't mean it to. If you want everything instanced you should play Free Realms, OP.
Woah there OP, what you're asking for is just as unreasonable (yet on the opposite end of the spectrum) as the "hardcores" asking for 24 hr spawns and .0000001% drop rates to make their items (rare).
If it takes you over an hour to get a drop, tough. That would be making things way too easy. If I didn't know any better I'd expect you've never played an MMO before. Getting a rare drop in the same day as your first attempt is usually quite lucky, and usually pretty unusual. You don't need those drops though. They're certainly good but you can play effectively without them. You decided it was worth your time, attempted it and were not satisfied with the results. That's how drop rates work, there's absolutely no guarantee.
The game is pretty "casual" friendly, at least more so than XI was. As much as I hate that term though, the game isn't built for the people who want to race to 50 and the best gear playing 18 hrs a day. It most certainly caters to people who may only have a few hours to play some days and that's fine.
Somewhat agree that instanced monsters would have been better, but was on for 2 hours and managed to kill the Doe 8 times and the Boar like 7.
Nobody else was around and this was an hour after maintenance so I think your exaggerating a bit or just very unlucky.
So basically your saying should be easier and you should get everything a hardcore gets in shorter amount of time
so lets put it this way So if you work full time and have benefits from your job 401k medical/dental and you work
40+hr a week . Should a part timer or Seasonal worker get all these benefits just because thats my question to you
your answer is going to be the same thing why should someone that does 1/2 or 1/4 of the work
well then do u think they should get same as full time does or not
/'
of course not
you get rewarded based on the ammount of time you work when it comes to anything time related
and your skill determines the scale beyond that
presonaly, in regards to the actual game though none of what is being done bothers me 1 bit and im about as hardcore as they come.
To access the content you must still level to it
to level to it you must still take tons of time
to actualy participate beyond that you must still have the proper gear for your class(to an extent)
so you still have to work to get to this stuff, who cares if it spawns often, i sure as hell dont. if anything it gives me more chances to klill stuff instead of waiting for days on end for a possible chance to do so.(ive never been a fan of NMs but do them when needed)
The next question down the line is how they will appraoch dungeons and thats what im waiting to hear on next
The OP really seems to be playing the wrong game. Should go back to WoW or play another game that is more casual friendly than FFXIV. You should also use a bit of common sense when playing this game. If you played FFXI and camped NMs then you should think that the drop rate will possibly be about the same for NMs on FFXIV. Also, there are going to be a lot of people wanting to fight it, so just give it some time. Go and fight it when the "new" smell has worn off. Yes FFXIV is more casual friendly, but it isn't just for casual players.
As I have gotten older, my needs and wants in an mmo have changed. The time sink that FFXI was, was perfect for me when I was younger. Now that I'm older, my time is more precious to me, that is why I'm playing FFXIV now. If your time is precious, then spend your time in a smart way. Don't spend 2 hours on an NM when there is a possibility that you won't get the drop. I personally, wouldn't call that a waste of 2 hours, but the nature of drops don't really bother me. I'll just try to get the drop next time I feel like spending time on the NM. The fact that I don't have to spend all day camping an NM just so I can fight it, in hopes that I'll get the item that has an extremely low drop rate is a great thing to me. I've fought Leaping Lizzy, Jagged Ear Jack, and the Emperor Fly (w/e you call it). Didn't get the drop from any of them. Then I just started fighting some of the less camped NMs, selling the drops that I got from them for a rather nice profit.
It is all about being smart with your precious game time. If FFXIV isn't casual enough for you, go to a different game. I'm not saying that like an elitist or anything. Just saying that you should be playing a game that is worth your time. You sound like you want a game that isn't FF. I don't think that FFXIV will ever go with just having everything instanced. At least, I hope that they don't. I want some instancing in this game, but not everything. WoW really isn't all that bad of a game, can't stand the graphics, but I see the game's mass appeal. They have the dungeons you're asking for and you're more likely than not to get the drops that you need. Personally WoW was too casual for me. That's why I'm here on FFXIV.
Some people here apparently didn't read the part where I said I threw out the WoW disc into the yard burn pile.
And I'm not asking to be "given" something for trying. I'm trying to say that the format for the NMs are wrong. That, and the idea that we casuals dont' seem to earn ANYTHING for wasting two hours on a single mob. I'd explain more, but I just woke up and I'm not exactly in the mood to get all grumpy - not with such a nice morning~
