What happened to that ridiculous [Request For SE] Disclose the Team Structure for FFXIV thread?
I don't know if I've made an excuse until the delay for patches as a result of the recent crisis in Japan. But what I've said is there was no excuse for releasing XIV in almost the same state XI was in it's first year, they should of learned from there mistakes. People used to go "oh well XI didn't have that in its first year", wtf, well even more then XIV should of had this. Anima for getting unjankified I understand, what about other transportation for those of us who want it, and another city besides the three main cities sometime within the first year of release. That's all I really wanted :/ I know that programming is hard, but literally that's all I still want. Eff content if I have a chocobo (don't quote me on that, if they came out with content tomorrow I might be like "eh no way cool")
Yeah a couple of threads I've been in, seems like your opinion is only valid if you have at least ONE rnk 50. My highest is 30... simply because I couldn't log on and do the same leves over and over again. Even if you go to another city, you still get stuck with the same ones. (If you've done them there before).
So I'm taking a break from FFXIV. Playing Rift to pass time while I wait for FFXIV. Whatever time I've got left, I spend here at the forum. Simply to see what the community is saying and what's going on.
Not to mention the giant mistake for forgetting to add an item search? I still don't understand how they managed that...
I mean can you imagine the meeting? "I don't think we should have an item search for players!, "me neither, it's not that important at the beginning of the game anyway." :p
I think they rushed FFXIV release.
That's elitism, which is found in every MMO community, I just ignore people who speak like that much like high level mages will say "protect and shell is broken, you aren't a 50 mage so you don't know!" yet others can see it has some effect even as a subskill on Marauder.
Did anyone here actually participate during the beta? Cause I heard a lot of players were upset due to the team not listening to the players. (Even though it was beta... and that's sort of the whole point?).
Test servers never get enough traffic to be a surefire vaccine against exploits and problems. That applies basically every game.
Most people don't really "waste" time on test servers when they can be playing on the live ones and work on their character progression.
It's not a matter of elitism. And it's not even a matter of getting to 50. People that talk a lot about things that they simply didn't experience first hand don't hold much credibility.
Even worse, people that didn't play the game for months don't have many tools to actually judge the current state of the game.
I did and it's not that the team didn't listen to the players, but more of the players not actually giving proper feedback. Let me just give you some examples of the crap that I saw "Battlesystem is broken. Please fix it." "BRs are stupid. Make them back into skillchains." Essentially, every other bug report was a "QQ dis game sux!" report...
Edited the OP this thread is officially about test servers.
Everyone wants games improved very vocally in every game I played before.
When it's time to take it upon themselves to use their own time to actually help improving the game by playing on test servers, the developer needs to literally *beg* them to, and use actual development time to devise events and incentives to drag them into it.
And even then, I've never seen a test server with an even decent population (which partly defeats the purpose of even having a test server, mind you).
And mind you, I'm a strong supporter (and user) of test servers, and I believe that Yoshida actually promised their implementation. Though, they are not a be all, end all solution because of their low population.
Not to mention that most of the people that go there in every game, just do so to get a sneak peek of the changes, without having any intention to actually test and send constructive feedback.
There's a lot of difference between demanding improvement vocally, and willing to contribute to improvement practically and constructively. In my (rather long and extensive) MMORPG experience I've seen a lot of the first, much, much less of the second.
It is hard to put a point on this one. Yes, we all would love hot off the press updates. However...
Day by day updates will be small, eg: yeah....we changed,......a code.....if you can read code, isnt this cool.
Also, if SE update publicly too much, they could give info to rival companies, which may jepodise the game further. also, being on a tight rope of PR, they do not wish to make promises they may not be able to keep
While I agree most people won't test properly I will test my ass off. What they can do is use the first OPEN test server as a way to find out who will actually test the content and invite them to later closed testing. Just an idea even thought it would be a pain to do.
I'm sure they will have a test server, and i'm sure some will test. I know I will. Just saying that it won't be a be all end all solution, as their effectiveness in other games is rather limited. They're good to find bugs (depending on attendance and activity), but they aren't a good decisional tool, nor they're good for a game's forums, as too many people take what they see on test servers as a final product.
This is a typical strawman argument. I'm sure no one around here accused low levels to be less than human or insulted them just for the fact that they are low levels.
There's a big difference between that and saying that you need to experience things first hand if you want to have much credibility when discussing about them. Talking about what you don't know isn't exactly conductive to constructive discussion.
Yes Please

i payed for the game to yet ppl bring up I don't play.
no one here knows what a rushed game looks like. Rushed games have bad graphics (copy and paste are not bad graphics and all games do it)
if you truelly want to know what a rushed game looks like look up two worlds. Its a xbox 360 game out a 2 or more years ago. And the graphics are even worst the the n64 games.
SE admitted bugs were too much, and couldn't put in certain things. And then realised what was put in wasn't resieved well. The lame excuses are what the players come up with. stop with your coperate consipricy theories they have no evidance.
You guys can't deny the bugs in beta that caused server sability issues. A good portion of beta was canceled. In the appology letter it did state that, that they had server stability issues that were not getting fixed.
Still have yet to receive my certificate! Thinking about looking into the matter, but not sure where to start... I use the book for a lot of things.. sketches and things like synthesis recipes or notes
I think we should have hourly updates. I think we should have a live video feed of Yoshi-P's bedroom.
That would take all the fun and surprise out of the game entirely. No thank you.
