Want to voice my opinion, double exp is a terrible idea in any MMORPG imo.
Things like this should come around like that XI anniversary rings.

No. Just no.
Rested bonus.
I wish it was 2004 again :(
Bonus Rested
This was suggested before but with the bonus exp you get from resting there isn't really a need to double exp weekends.
TL;DR for thread.
Rested Bonus
I don't think we can judge yet the direction they are going with ARR until we play the beta in a few weeks, and I think I understand where you are coming from but that they are mixing elements from many mmo's and refining old ideas while trying to keep it FF, like the addition of quests to help level (your first job and maybe 2, probably) and explore, and the other elements don't mean the game is going to be a piss easy rush to end game kind of game.
All depends on how they pace the content and the leveling curve, so if we cannot find the reference of Yoshi saying it will be as easy or easier to level up on ARR, well... I'm going to take as truth the old on where he confirmed that PL won't be in the game and that the leveling process will take a slower pace.
Edit: Would be nice if we could get a rep post about the pace of the leveling pace.
Why is there 5 pages of people saying rested bonus? can't you just click *like* on the original rested post, and leave it at that, if you don't have anything else to say?
empress, emperor, or an anniversary ring is better in my opinion. We already have rested bonus so a double exp weekend is most likely not necessary.
Just enjoy the road, don't rush to the goal with every means possible.
I'm one of those people that likes going against the grain. so I have to say:
Rested Bonus
I hope they do slow down leveling up. It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n' roll, or at least it should be.
Pssh. Double xp weekend. How bout something more useful like douple drop rate weekend, or just not go the FPS route and utilize FATE system to do something special that weekend.
Besides everyone is already 50 everything just so they can not deal with the slowed down leveling come 2.0 (And from the looks of peoples opinions... funny, it's still now slow enough).
Rested Bonus.
I guess I am the only one that tought about what rested bonus effects :/
Well having a double exp weekend is like taking the lore from the game by pushing real world events into it.
It's not something I'm too fond for, and this kind of stuff is perfect for shooters.
I miss the anniversary rings =3
Totally agree.
However...
To me it seems that a disappointing amount of game developers have simply forgotten how to create a "journey" that is just as fun/fulfilling/rewarding/immersible/enjoyable/etc as what there is to do once you reach w/e level cap they implement.
I want to equally enjoy both leveling and content designed for max level, and I've realized that when I start to feel like I want to rush/skip over so much it's because they made the journey just so... god... damn... boring... -_-
Here's hoping ARR will be quite the opposite~
For now I've found this link:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post317185
But this is about the old system, I'm going to check the letters from the producer see if it was there.
If anyone else knows he source of any information about PL in ARR please post it!
It was boring cause we have exped 1-50 in the same zones again and again. If i take ff11 as comparison it was fun cause we had to change zone, and it was a real travel.
They should put more effort into making it a more fun leveling process rather than leaving it boring and admitting to it by implementing double exp weekends.
Oh sorry I was talking about games with a leveling component in general, but with respect to FFXIV 1.x yeah I agree that being in the same zone probably added to it being boring.
Another part that made it boring for me is that everything turned into this giant aoe-spam-zerg-feast... with little to no thought in what you were doing. It just doesn't make sense to have virtually all the "fun" battles/encounters only exist once you reach level cap.
That's really what makes any level process boring for me: battles/encounters that are dull, lackluster, and require no thought whatsoever. And this is regardless of the "leveling process"... whether it be old-FFXI-style party-based camping, or WoW-style solo quest-chaining; both require battles/encounters.
I agree the AoE grind leveling in FFXIV 1.0 was really boring, but I don't think it was boring because it was in one spot or because it wasn't quest-based leveling. It was boring because it was just easy, unorganized, mindless fighting. I don't mind them going with a quest leveling system as long as the quests and fights involved in the quests are challenging like the story missions in FFXI.
XI is dying, this is to provide a boost to the amount of people logging in and hopefully retain some of them as regulars again. There's no need for this in XIV at the moment, if ever in my opinion.
Rested Bonus
plus I work every Fri/Sat/Sun nights 7p-7a So weekend only events can suck it in my book.
Rested Bonus
bested ronus
heck the bed, rested bonus.
I would have to agree with everyone on that point. While I have liked Double exp weekends and the like; Rested EXP serves this purpose for getting casuals "Caught up".
On the double drop rate weekend note: Where do I sign?
