Let's just say that there's some contradictions in what the devs said and the actual state of alpha. . . .
In these threads people are often wrong and/or have false assumptions. That's expected though, since the opinions are based only on vids the devs hand out and bits of txt info.
Greetings!
In regards to all of the comments about how the enemies visibly react to player attacks, we'll be adjusting these animations around the time the Beta Test begins.
Specifically we are looking into addressing it in the following ways:
- Vary the damage animation according to the amount of damage inflicted.
- Tone down the damage animation for large monsters.
Thank you, Snurble!
I think any mob half your size or smaller should receive a knockback effect when ever you hit them.
Anyone else notice that if you die in a leve now, you cant return unless your homepoint was set there or you forfeit? thats... silly.
Guess it makes people travel more, rather than setting their homepoint in town and just zipping back when they're done.
On one hand it could make people use the transportation features more, on the other it could be slightly inconvenient for the player. Then again We'll probably still have the inn room homepoint.
You'll be surprised from the info the devs gives then playing the alpha first hand lol. Reason why is this:
He's right about this.
Not saying that you're wrong in any way or anything Alex, but you know how people are. Assumptions and whatnot even if the devs do tell us something. Some of it might not even be set on stones. But eh, what do I know? Maybe I know a lot maybe I don't lol
For the animation twitching I can see it being tone down a bit even though allot of battle related stuff is taken out apparently. I going to speak for the larger enemy's like the one in videos making it where critical hit causes them twitch like that isn't really best solution either you have to also account for the other players as well when they do critical hits also and adding further upon that if gotten to a 16 to 24 man party's will get the same issue with that but that can change because it is alpha.
For example instead if the large monster like these are susceptible to like blunt type damage that doesn't automatically make them flinch it when you do a combo/weapon skill with blunt type effect that cause them to flinch if you hit for a critical then maybe that flinch effect last about two second longer preventing them from reacting for those seconds.
I think you are misconstruing my points. I was originally replaying to the complaining about things not being in alpha (combos, complex battle systems, smooth animations etc.) which we were already informed would not be in alpha. Regardless of whether or not things differ in actual alpha play, you shouldn't expect to see something you were already informed would not be there.
Since the comment about people being in alpha was a bit vague in direction, I was merely covering my own bases by pointing out nothing I said required alpha knowledge. If the statement wasn't aimed towards me, then well, at least I had covered myself. That's all.
No, I'm agreeing with you, just that all I'm saying that you're correct on how people complain about this and that blah blah blah and complain about it, And that "You'd be surprise" statement I made wasn't towards you (Even if I did quote on you, I was using you as something to help me come up with a statement) It was just to some people who think they know what they are saying.
thanks... I didn't mind the fliching so much... but whatever makes everyone happy ^^
Hopefully the beta shows a revamped battle system because the system in the video looks boring.
Skill spam isn't fun. Steam rolling content and getting bored after a month means people won't stick around. Hopefully these thing's still aren't present in 2.0 from 1.0 But I'll beat my drum come beta. Alpha is bare bones as can be.
I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but this is just the alpha phase so I'm not too worried about the combat.
Take the turtle fight for instance:
1. Yes, the combat might look a tad fast for alot of us who played (only) FFXI, but as long as it is challenging and fun most of us will adjust quite easily. There are no gear swaps to worry about and I think I read that there will be no haste. We will have to wait and see what they do with "store tp".
2. The party appears to consist solely of WHM, DRG, and BRD. So at any point in the fight one of those classes is tanking and nobody is taking much damage. Personally I could easily watch a 5 min wipe-fest of this fight and be entertained but it probably wouldn't make for a very interesting video to most people, or alpha test for that matter. Most likely the mobs are weak and players are buffed pretty well and this is a battle system and ability demo, not a real fight.
If come Beta fights look like this all we will need is a post that says "fights are boring and too easy, please add challenge" with 5,000 likes and it will get fixed but I doubt that that will be necessary.
3. The mob hit animation has already been commented on by SE.
tl;dr: Comments and constructive criticism are good, but wait til beta before you freak out. Just my $.02.
How do you intend to defeat the enemy without using any skills? Or would you prefer....Parley?

even in 1.0 it was a bit of a skill spam. being forced to use skills in a specific order doesnt change that. But i hope conditional and directional skills make a return.
but notice that the 2 battles we saw seem to be normal battles vs mobs with very high HP. I assume the event and primal battles will still have several "events" inside of them. IE, break the machines to lower the shield while kiting the robot and killing the mobs
Can't get any more spammy than 5 MNKs on Miser ..people have short memory on what they want..good thing for every complainer in here there's hundreds of excited people out there :D
As long as it doesn't become MapleStory zerging you shouldn't worry :p
Given that you initiate the leves at your own choice once entering their spawn zones (rather than starting at the aetheryte), allowing you to splice in leves between quests, this actually seems quite reasonable... If you're worried about dying, you just set your home point beforehand (or be in a party with Raise I guess).
Aside from GW2, the Korean class-role cluster**** method, and the like, which games aren't tank and spank, honestly? I agree that moving out of role-stagnation usually improves the excitement of the game's fights (though there are numerous exceptions to even this), but really, just how many examples are there?
People have forgotten 1.0 raids and Primal Fights... .
the team is getting so professional. really. i have to admit.
they are taking every small single detail into consideration.
it's like i could feel how hard the dev team is working. i hope, and really hope, that they are getting good feedback finally in beta or release date. because they deserved it.
my opinion to this.
i mean look at pictures like this:

okay its their job. but i think they are doing their job quiet good now.
sorry i disagree.. the battlesystem is A LOT better than 1.0. and i love it.
Is THIS (GW2) more fun to you? (besides that the environment sucks in comparison to ARR)
well at least while playing GW2 i felt aslept and bored out.. although you can cast (or shall i say SPAM?) every fuckin' spell "on the fly".
the elementalist feels so badly designed.. less damage, spam monster 0verKilL.. no then i like it much more like we can see it in this video here. but thats my matter of taste.
how people these days try to hard to make a damn "Call Of Duty" out of every MMO. it did not make GW2 or TERA better in any ways! and i always have in mind that FF originally is coming from a turn based RPG.
im so fed up with this CoD generation. ..
*boom boom* peng* peng* we need more instant SPAM BUTTONS!
I'm fed up with the pre-"CoD generation" and their "everything needs to take as long as humanly possible because it just should!" nonsense. Not a single person in the entire world complains about having a faster internet connection than they used to...so why are you doing the exact same thing with gaming?
Things progress. Deal with it.
