If I recall correctly, this phase of the alpha will get more invites, because it's a stress test on several zones (they are aiming to have max server capacity, around 5k players on 2 servers, that's 10k), and also they want to test EU/US latency and whatnot, so I think during this week there's a chance more invites are sent.
I'm not saying they SHOULDN'T have been given a chance, but it should have been equal chance. If they DIDN'T give them a chance then those people may have thought that SE doesn't want their business anyways.
The only difference is we've been playing the game and they haven't. Its also one of the key factors.
This. Most of the quitters don't want to know how stable the server is when x people are fighting y mobs in the same zone or if they can push those numbers a bit further. They want to know if they can quest, fight, play without it being as tedious as in 1.0 at launch. I don't know how much content is present in the Alpha builds, but i doubt it's enough to make them stay for good.
Random means random.
Random does not mean take anything into consideration.
Random does not sympathise.
Besides, this is a test. This isn't a free early game experience like 80% of people seem to think it is. You are supposed to be there to give feedback, not to "try out the game" or "have fun".
Relish in the fact that you get to play it later and don't spoil yourself too much early on.
Naaa he will play it a bit just to tell in ts EVERY bad thing about the game.
Ohh look at the crappy animation, ahh this lag badly, ahh the bs is dead slow, ahhh you can shot behind the rocks and not getting the loss of view (this is when he saw garuda :P ) .
But then ill try it anyway :P
Dragonheart I will tell you...
That in your case i'd really suspect that i'm being trolled by my friends than that SE is doing something weird, really. Too many coincidences >_>
I suggest either you beat your friends upside the head until they barf out video proof, or that you disbelieve them.
Whats done is done there is no use being angry at the choices that were made. I remember reading that the first few days of global the servers wouldn't even be online 24 hours anyways.
They also said they want everyone to get a chance. This isn't the last phase of alpha invites. Yoshi-P said he wants everyone to have a chance. So be patient and we'll all get an invite.
They will select a batch of results tailored around certain answers such as x processors ranged to y processors and ignore other ones for the time being, but those who are selected between x and y processors are completely random. Just because you gave the "right answers" doesn't mean you'll get in. They don't look at accounts, they don't do any of that.
Its not exactly random it said people will be selected based on their answers right on the sign up page. Maybe they did want some people who didn't play 1.0 much.
Yes I'm sure their feedback will be absolutely invaluable since they know jack-shit about the game in the first place.
And yes I am aware Alpha is purely for stress/server testing, in which case I STILL don't see a point in this apparent priority to non playing users. How is playing a stress test with one zone and almost no content going to convince them to come back?
They'll play it once or twice and put it in their heads this is how the retail version is going to be, then proceed to not buy it or give a shit just like they did previously.
Reading through some responses, I'm not even sure if people know whether alpha is for testing or playing....
Either way, inactive accounts should not have had some sort of magical priority.
As far as we know release could be as long as 6 months (or more!) away. How the hell do they think they can keep these people interested for that long when they didn't even bother to play the original?
If anything stress tests should be done by people who are going to end up buying the game anyway since any hiccups/glitches/crashes during testing is unlikely to change their minds. I wouldn't care if the server crashed every 2 minutes in alpha, I'm still playing ARR.
You can't really say the same about someone who's on the fence about it or simply not interested at all.
You needed an active FFXIV account to be able to apply. Prob reactivated recently to be able to apply.
They just applied for alpha many time ago with an inactive account, just like us with active one.
Even if the requirements said that alpha was for who had an active account only.
At that time i was thinking: -Ok they can apply even with an inactive account, but they will not be selected, or at least they don't have the priority over who has an active account (so who PAID ).
And in the meanwhile ppl that still don't knew that 1.0 has end, got the invitation. Oh God i laugh to don't cry rotfl.
That's exactly it. SE are not mind-readers. They can't know whether the person who filled out the application form did it for the lols or not. They can't know whether someone who went inactive doesn't care about ARR or not - they could simply have disliked 1.0 enough but very interested in what ARR has to offer. Doesn't make them any less a fan, because if you really do hate a game, why play it? So inactive players does not necessarily mean they are not interested.
SE is in a tough spot, because they have to choose between whether to conform to one segment of their POTENTIAL customerbase or not. In this case, I think they went with the better choice, to not discriminate against anyone asides from the condition that they fill in the alpha application and meet the requirements as such.
Nothing wrong with trying to get back potential customers. I didn't get one but thems the breaks. It's just a stress test...
Oh well this is SE marketing strat that is free, Way to go SE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im still not convinced OP's friend applied >_> sounds like a big troll to the OP. Especially, since yknow..they're not supposed to say if they DID get in e.e;
You dumbfucks, alpha iis under NDA, you are not suppose to advertise anything, you saying you will advertise is exactly why you never gets in.
