Alright, alright. We'll stop talking about Jumping.
So how 'bout that GRASS?
I want jumping. I like jumping.
Who are you? My mother?
Let people focus on issues they care about. Don't try to police what they should be concerned about.
That being said, you have a point. It's good to reevaluate the issues that will effect us most as we play the game
It should be a good sign when the complaints are focused on the asthetics but that dosn't mean these issues are unimportant to our experience. If you don't think it should be taken up as an issue, stay out of the conversation. That's why I only made two posts about the marriage issue. I ultimately think it's a nonissue that we're not suited to tackle, but I wasn't about to ask people not to talk about it.
Yes, I agree, how about making a thread on The gear sets that make you have a piece of equipment for EACH gear set, wtf are they thinking? How are you supposed to have two rare/ex drops when you can barely get one??!! Why is no one saying anything about this?????????
OH yeah about the GRASS why aren't people posting threads asking for the use of game mods like skyrim does?? Add your OWN pretty grass! !!!!!1one
There's a difference between showing concern on the important aspect of the game versus showing concern on something that already being implemented very well...and that is jump!
Currently jump exist which is better than not having jump and the jump animation is to majority of people already happy with it but the very few are nitpicking down to the extreme and expecting it to life like! That's the problem I have with.
We should be displaying concern on the more important of the game like, game contents be it end game, jobs and class, battle mechanics, the user interface, and such.
Yoshi is smart guy and he will listen to what makes sense for this game. Asking to make jump to be life like is unrealistic request when the fact is Yoshi is giving us the ability to jump and its got good enough animation and yes it can improve a little more but some complain and request certain things that are far unrealistic.
It's like for example, you get an offer for a job that pays well with full benefit included and the company pays 100% of the benefit, but the person is asking for a salary rate of an extra 30% which is pushing and is not being realistic in their choice.
Another example, a guy wants to have a girl friend and or wife that cooks, have a full time job, take care of the kids, put up with sex everyday. Thats an unrealistic.
We gain some and we will lose some. FFXIV 2.0 Alpha is going in the right directions so far, but we've yet to even play the global alpha yet. Once we play alpha we can provide more feedback on important aspect of the critical part of the game such as battle mechanics, Exping, lag, party system, synthesis, bestiary ai, environment, maps, and other things that are important to the overall game that makeys it appealing to the mass.
And not about jumping not being reasltic enough...
I agree with mog and his OP.
But let's agree on something else--creation of repeat topics is a two-way problem. Firstly it's a problem with players not using the search function, or if they do they don't give a shit and just make a new thread about the SAME thing anyway. Secondly it's. problem with awful forum moderation. Threads of simar topic should merged. On top of that topics that belong in other sections should be moved there. General discussion shouldn't be a dumping ground for mental diarrhea.
Posters need to learn what forum etiquette is and the mods should make a sticky in this section that outlines the rules. One of those rules ought to be that if you think this forum is your personal blog, you should just be banned. Get a livejournal ffs.
Jumping is here to stay, stfu about it already.
Not really. You've been throwing the whole "generic" diatribe since quested leveling and duty finder were revealed. Then you went on about how XIV will be like every other MMO just because it has some features that have become standard.
Jumping is a stupid thing to complain over. As I mentioned long ago, the Ji Firepaw controversy (someone bitched loud enough to get Blizzard to change Ji's dialogue because apparently him telling female player characters that they're good looking is sexist and offensive) has a better base in reality than what I've seen on these forums over jumping. And I thought that thing was also stupid as all hell. Just not to the lows the jump hate has reached.
As Mog states, it's also preventing discussion on more important topics. I understand that concrete information is scarce because we have few details on character progression aside what Yoshida has mentioned, dungeon design has been barely touched upon, class design (especially for arcanist/summoner) is still a bunch of base concepts without any ability examples or gameplay videos, boss fights relative to the new battle system are still a mystery, and so on. The fixation on something as trivial as jumping is going to hurt the game more than any feature from Rift, WoW or GW2 ported into XIV.
Odd is the day when I agree with Mog.
Uhh, now this is an ill-thought argument. They never added jumping in the current version, lol. They didn't make a radical change in the current version, and since 2.0 is started from scratch, adding jump was just one thing of many that is put into the "brand new game".
It is in 2.0, and the area and terrain is set up for jump to work in. Yes, it would be radical to get rid of jump, because they would have to redo all the maps again to cater to a no jump and delay the game even longer than it is right now.
Alright, to the "I need a realistic environment" people. I can halfway understand where you come from, but why do we play these games to begin with? Sure we all have our different reasons, but one of the biggest ones are to escape from our own reality for a brief period of time. Why are you so determined to have every small detail be catered to an act of realism? Did we complain in earlier Final Fantasy's for the same reasons? Was Cloud jumping over skyscrapers too much for you?
The halfway point I understand is you want something or someone you can relate to, which I can respect, but you have to acknowledge something that is in the title itself, "Fantasy". It isn't called Final Reality. I want concepts and things that are out of my world. I want to feel like I am somewhere I can be someone completely different from who I am in real life.
In short, this is a fantasy game and if they give you the ability to jump on top of a tent, either like it, live with it, or don't play the game. Its there now and we all know it isn't going anywhere, so at this point you are better off finding something else to complain about that you know can change. Alpha test yourself and find actual game breaking bug or mechanics instead of saying "Grass is too green!" or "The sand is too sandy.". Don't continue to beat the dead horse, let it lay to rest already.
Can't wait for jumping actually... be jumping on my bed all day long...
Couldn't be that it was implemented because people whined about jumping since before beta... nah, they just thought it was a good idea.
Sure.
You know, its probably not the same thing with the Auction Houses either. Oh wait, we're getting those too.
Your idea of causality is so limited, it's actually saddening. You're connecting random dots and giving considerably greater credit than is due to the voice of the forum. What's worse, you're not even doing it convincingly.
You're 2 base arguments are jumping and AHs. Really? Two staple MMO features that pretty much should have been in 1.0, like many other things, but weren't. So they decide, after explicitly having stated that they're studying other popular MMOs, to add in such staples to ARR - and you're idea is that no, they added it because the forums were so adamant about it with the 17348543569 threads they made.
I can't even read your sarcastic post seriously. The bold part pretty much is the truth. Guess what. That's how Yoshi-P rolls. He thinks something's a good idea, he puts it in.
If you're suggesting that Yoshi doesn't listen to player demand and he only does things that he wants to do (most notably jumping and AH), you're being naive.
Yoshi-P has been nothing but freaking awesome/amazing. He's a very smart man who's not only listening to fans/player base, but also knows what works and what doesn't in modern MMO. There will always be limitations in technology and for this game.
For example, the most popular new race that Yoshi had ask to participate on the poll was Viera race (female with bunny ears kinda like mithra whom are a race with only stricting to female) so he would like to add beast like race which is new for an MMO. Which I think is an excellent thinking on his part.
Of course he "listens", but let's be real for a moment. He still has the final say and the man is probably a more experienced mmo player than most posters here. If he "listened" to the average poster here (based on Likes), we wouldn't have the free-for-all claim system, inn homepoints, instanced dungeons, jumping, and other non-FFXI features. Far too many people here wanted this mmo to take a step back in time instead of progress into the modern world. Frankly he does what he's gonna do. His plan is laid out months in advance and if we think that our word carries a ton of weight, we're fooling ourselves. The player polls effect his decisions but passed that, less than 1% of crap posted here makes any difference.
I never suggested that he doesn't listen to player demand. I even explicitly said that he considers player feedback when making decisions, but ultimately it is never a primary driving factor for any major game mechanic - and shouldn't be.
Player feedback has a greater impact on decisions that involve things like events and/or opinionated/sensitive topics like same-sex marriage. For things like that, listening to the playerbase is of paramount importance.
When it comes to game mechanics and design, then taking the playerbase seriously is of the least significance. It is impossible to tailor the game to any playerbase - it's just a loud noise of clashing opinions. His standards for all such decisions take into consideration much more important factors like "Final Fantasy feel" and "MMO standards".
>.> I still don't know why people are crying about jumping I freaking love it so everyone else can just suck it...
you know whats better then jump, running and getting stuck on a pebble.
