how I'll be playing bard in 2.0
I am far fom asking for ultra realistic jumping, but when I see the height you can get I feel there should be the mario jump sound effect along with it. Should be toned down ever so slightly.
Also Id like to see if there is a different jump animation while sprinting. I havent noticed them sprint at all in the vids.
I personally don't care about jumping, it's more of the fact that everyone in all the alpha videos don't stop f'n jumping. It's like they think it's amazing technology to look like an idiot.
I don't understand the complaints about jumping.
At first I was in the group of people who didn't believe jumping should be added because it's not something that has been common throughout the FF series. Since this is an MMO, my opinion soon changed.
Jumping breaks your immersion? Standing on fences breaks your immersion? Would you prefer the option where everybody on the entire planet* is glued to the ground and any space between the ground and the person would result in some sort of cosmic problem?
*dragoons are the exception
You do realize there's more to jumping than aesthetics, right? Guess not. You can jump up ledges/hills/platforms and avoid many different obstacles, and cut down travel time, like virtually every other MMO.
Oh but sure let's not add jumping for the players who would actually like to jump (most of them) because the competition happens to do it and Final Fantasy XIV isn't the competition, right? Yeah let's just give people another reason to go to other games because we don't have another standard feature in these sorts of games.
Sure jumping on tents and jumping up and down a hundred times in a row looks silly. So does running around in circles, casting flare repeatedly in the middle of a city, or going on rants about not including a basic mechanical and aesthetic feature.
Let's put a limit on how much you can run around in circles, cast flares in the middle of the city, and rant about stupid crap.
(PS: Not directed to OP, should be obvious but just in case)
At least when people ran in circles and casted flare in cities it looked pretty, and smooth. Rather then broken, and dull. I understand your point though, and this matter will come down to the players perspective, but seeing people jump repeatedly non stop like they're gaining experience for doing it is an eye sore after the 30th jump in 1 minute.
Just to confirm with the anti-jump crowd:
You're already sure that people won't ever get bored of just mashing that button, with the novelty never wearing off, and that even if this were the case, it is going to disquiet your core experience with the game so hard that we should all be permanently glued to the floor to make things better for you?
Is this a general vent thread? or is it a disguised complain about people complaining about jumping thread?
Still complaining about something that will be 100% in the game?!
We all know well that all over Eorzea there will be bouncing Lalafells similar to some little crazy balls, and we have to accept it, we can't do nothing about.
I want to know: Will Gobbu's jump? I wanna see that!
Wait a minute. Wait just a gawd darn minute.
Jumping isn't realistic, but giant demon monsters, flying dragons that spawn out of meteor/moon like cages, huge blue monsters with flowers/grass as hair and a magic carpet saddles which people can ride, the ability to summon the elements to kill things, doing a punch combo and immediately turning it into a break dance kick with a light show, hot cat women, talking goblins, goblins in general, and giant fire wolf/dogs that can talk are realistic?
Well. I see your point.
"Beta content not yet finalized, but he plans to include all the core story"
Oh boy, can't wait for some jack ass to ruin the entire story for everyone else.
lol, thanks. I knew about that because im an avid fan of Nippon Ichi games, Disgaea being my favorite. :)
I also have to agree, this topic has been going back and forth. Though, i'm also one of those people that supports providing feedback about the game before it launches.
ummm....
When I first saw title on this thread, I thought it's about Ventrilo support for PS3/PC. But I am clearly wrong... :p
Can TS please change the title to something else to avoid confusion? Maybe "Ranting" instead of "Venting"?
I know that it's a normal word, but most of us here already prefer "vent" as Ventrilo. ;D
I want to jump like this

LOL @ theomens link. Is that mario and luigis kid sister?
I want to log in then have my character log in just to have his character log in. FFception...

Yo, I heard you like realism. So we added some realism to your reality so you can realistically realise your realism.
I want to jump like this. I mean. Its real.

You know the sliding during the time they did it possible to pull the weapon without to stop during the run? They fixed it away, too. It was like running then sliding on ice ^^
And there was this, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InnvnJxXUl8
lol where does that leave Lalafell? lol
Jump needs to be realistic, they need to show Lalafell pull out a step stool and crawl over a fence. They shouldn't just jump over it! Sheesh.
In all honesty it should be the same for all across the board, nobody wants to wait for the lalafel to catch up just because he's short. :P
How do you know it is not realistic? Do you know the size/mass of the planet? The gravity ratios? This might be purely natural on the fantasy planet that is completely made up.
PS: Magic....
You could roughly find all that information out :P. Also we could logically gander general similarities to Earth by how birds fly and airships work. In FFXIV 2.0 we can also use female bust and bounce to calculate the extent of gravity.. :D lol
I dont like "magic" as the response at least in basic response. Some made up bullshit always settles better for me, like when reading a fantasy book they hardly ever say "becuz..." but rather spend a few paragraphs to pages talking about the nature of whats going on.
I really do think the animations are impractical but without animation blending I'm not sure how much you could improve it and not have it look worse in different ways.
@Tent jumping - invisible walls = standing on tent, both are bleh. But I'd rather be able to stand on a tent then be blocked from landing somewhere it looks I can land.
Though I said before just make the top of the tent slide you off, so if you land on it you slide off like snowboarding or something.
Ya, my post was kinda facetious. It just bugs me that people make all these exceptions for magic, monsters and teleportation yet they can't seem find ways to explain away the height and length of jump, which is what I was commenting on.
@tent stuff: big deal. why not add in a "climb" button and skill to get that immersion just right. its gone too far as the OP suggested. besides if they add fabric movements to compensate for the weight of the person on the tent, it will be very difficult to account for more than just one person. invisible wall? if you insist. i just dont understand why that bugs you soooo much.
@extra animations: i would be for that as long as it does not slow down the reaction time of the chr's. IE, running, two step stop, quick breath catching, drawing sword, taking little steps to turn around, swivel hips, head, focus on bad guy, begin to swing, then dead cause it took to long. i'm not saying this will be the case but are you really going to notice it when you are in a group of 8 players running through a dungeon?
Its nitpicky stuff that i do hope they consider but in the end, its the gameplay that makes a game succeed, not the pretty graphics. case in point FFVII and the popeye Cloud arms, WoW and its very cartoonish graphics that are a jarring disconnect from their CG scenes, Old school Mario. All very successful games, yet here we are (myself included) commenting a 1000th of a second slide or not shuffling feet when camera turns.
What exactly is animation blending?
Animation blending takes two existing animations and mixes on the fly according to the scenario - say if you are running and jumping the animation could look different then if you where walking and jumping as it would bind two different animations together. (You can do more then one animation at a time).
Animation blending will help a lot in combat so when you are attacking but then go to use a weapon skill your character doesn't look like he resets and instead its all carried out in one fluid motion. Or like when running and then you stop suddenly you can have it blend into a stand rather then just suddenly jolt up right.
There are other aspects like physics to animation (turning so sharp changes animation) that aren't necessarily animation blending but they are usually (and I hope) put together.
hundreds of thousands of dollars to use a system they already have to play an animation (sliding) and to make a small set of code that pushes a character off a tent.. lololololol
Not even really needed to make an animation for sliding the character- it would just look better. Anyway, it wouldn't cost even a thousand. Might cost a few hundred though depending on what resources they have sitting around and what scripts are already in their code.
