Gridania has this "Korean MMO" look to it. Big, open forest-y area with a giant, spinning crystal in the middle set to very subtle, calming music.
I dunno. Just not quite clicking with me. Then again, I'm a Limsa man so as long as Limsa is great, I'm good. :3
I will say, though, that tower/dungeon thing with the imps along the path really felt like King Ranperre's Tomb. That was a huge blast from the past for me.
I'll have to experience Gridania for myself though before I pass full judgement. I will say, however, that I could slap the music of Ronfaure from FFXI onto the new Black Shroud in a heartbeat.
that imp room reminded me of bastok mine more only cause it was connected to the city area. it was very small room though i wouldn't be surprised if it worked just like it and there was a huger part of the mine somewhere out in the world that connects to it.
i liked the vid only thing i noticed was the maps open up way too fast but i don't really care i don't explore anything they don't make me threw events/quests and story/nm hunting. but in ffxi they forced you to get the map usually after you got somewhere witch made it awesome cause you could get lost looking if you didn't cheat and look up a map. it took me half a day trying to find rabao in altep zone. i kept getting lost lmao, finally ran into people and it turned out it was 5seconds from there>< ...but it's one of those things i remember and enjoyed for the first few hours lmao.
^^^..This, "Fog of War" we shouldn't see any names of an area that is fully covered up by the Fog map. It takes away from the adventure and exploration.
That's why I loved the fact that you had to buy map in FFXI.. you couldn't see any of the map at all...that was hardcore exploration. Some maps where quest rewards some maps were bought or found.
Take away the names on the fogged areas Yoshi/Dev team. Or you might as well have no "Fog of War"....
What are you alpha testers bugging??? Letting stuff like this slip.
I hope they show some in-game footage of Limsa soon.
The wooded area gives off more of a tidy garden vibe than a forest vibe to me.
Feels very empty, but this is alpha so.
The enclosed dungeon area sat with me better.
I noticed in the trailer all the critters are the same.
Im not sure if it is just because it is alpha.
I think to make the world a little bit more diverse seeing random stuff not just alot of the same clogging up the screen.
Ideas:Deer,Rabbit,Snake,Fox,Wolves,Frogs,Lizards,Squirrel,Birds,etc.
Maybe add an achievment and quests with critters in it like finding a prince or princess etc.
You guys are doing a wonderful job, this is just a thought. hope no one hangs me for it lol..
I said critters lol
didnt say it was bland i notice the trees shadows wind etc.
i was just saying more varity of critters everything looks good tho never said it didnt.
Yup, I hear people getting way too worried about character graphic models/rendering looking like it's downgrade or something. Yoshi is not stupid to downgrade the graphics unless it's to downgrade 10% for the sake of lag and to see 800 ppl on same screen (which I am fine with that).
But for PC version I feel very confidence that the graphics will stay intact and even if it's 10% less shiny or whatever, I will still be happy because it will be trade off with fixing the lag and 800+ character that can be seen on the screen without causing any slowness (unless the person's PC specs sucks).
I've been looking at alot of screen shot and finding high res version and I can definitely see the character models/rendering is awesome and almost no noticeable difference (maybe the shiny rubbery like graphics is reduce very little) but even that doesn't bother me.
People with high end PC specs and with a high end GPU can pump up the GPU's extra feature to make the graphics even sharper, more texture and shinier.
As for PS3 console, well there's limitations but Yoshi and Dev Team has done their best to make it less stressful in terms of overall PC and PS3 system handling the graphics and coding.
Can't say it enough but I love the new look of the shroud. 1.0's incarnation was really badly done. I can't wait to see how the rest of the areas turn out.
