Oh thanks Bayohne! That makes things a little more clear.
Also, curious, in regards to the comment about 'fighting the dev team', I hope to get to see a Bayohne nm in 2.0.
We will not see PS4 in 2013. 2014 at the earliest. PS4 releasing in summer 2013? It hasn't even been officially announced yet, no chance.
In the current post Yoshi-P stated , quite eloquently and forcefully, his reasons for wanting PC and Console gamers as part of a Global community. I am in complete agreement with him. He has also stated several times in the past that ARR will be developed in such a way as to allow maximum usage of both in such a way as to not be a hindrance to the overall game development in the future. I am going to take him at his word and I hope to make new friends from the console world.
I'm glad to hear that the servers will soon go up. I still wanted to record all my cutscenes before losing the chance to never see them again (at least some of them).
Looking through my research, I misread. The final version of the dev kit is summer '13, my bad. And I understand the logic of going ahead with PS3. Lots of people have it. I'm just worried that in a very short time, the ol' "PS3 LIMITATIONS!!" will show itself.
My logic was "Ok, SE could release it for the PS3 now and within a few years reach the PS3's max performance, or they could wait a while longer for PS4 and not have to worry about the 'limitations' for many years."

THAT OLD MAN MAKE ME CRY AFTER 10 yeas i never DID.. >.>..... heh...
cya in vahllalla old man......was an honor fight with you!...!!!!
I wanted to comment about the smartphone apps mentioned by Yoshi-P. I like the idea of having viewable content on my iPhone or iPad. I very much like the idea of replacing my Authenticator with an app on my smartphone. I travel a lot and don't want to always carry my Authenticator with me. I know this is an old topic, but I thought I would reply to this thread since he mentions smartphone apps.
I didn't get to attend the final battle, as i was not feeling well and it would have been very late EST. I however have watched the ending trailer several times and Yoshi-P and the team did an excellent job on the trailer it was very immersive. Thanks DEV team for all the hard work!!
I agree on this matter about the PS3. I personally love playing on the console, specifically because I get motion sickness on the PC. Since I play on ps3 and large screen I don't have this issue. I fully appreciate that the team wants to have this game on PS3. I have never played a game on the PC due to this issue, but I played FFXIV to support SE.
Also want to mention that I grew up on console gaming, so that may have a lot of impact on my preference. Thanks SE for bringing this to PS3.
Yay! Thank you for the translation. Work hard ARR team!
Love love loved, that last quote from yoshi. <3
oooeeh i can't wait to see if i will be picked out for alpha ^^/ im free till 1jan so i can test my rear end off if they make me to :D
thanks yoshi-p for explaining a few things! i already had a feeling it couldnt be just a moon, but i missed a few hints you stated there. like when dalamud went closer and closer, those weird spiky things are not anything that a moon should have! plus the fact that van darnus was a drg type fighter already set some bells off ~.^
i cant wait, i really cant, to see how the story unfolds in ARR! because, gameplay and all is good but it's about the story as well ;)
Thanks to Yoshi and the devs for bringing us these posts. :)
FF series was born on console, and i have many friends on 11 who refuse to even play 14 because it is not on a console. More people more memories, best advertising is word of mouth and ive already brought some players back and more to come.
i bet the ppl wanting seperate server for ps3's is related to the famous "ps2 limitations" in ffxi. where PC users were forced to deal withstuff because they had to be fair to ps2 players, you know the story, lol
Probably because most multiplayer games that are released for both the PC and a console are First Person Shooters. In an FPS, a mouse is a *much* better interface than a game controller, so if you're going to have it on both console and PC you must separate the players because otherwise the PC players would slaughter the console players (Microsoft reportedly confirmed this in test, which is why they dropped plans for cross-platform play in upcoming games a couple of years ago). Of course, in an MMORPG, particularly an MMORPG without free-ranging PvP, this is much less of an issue.
No calendar at launch? That's pretty rough for a game that's boasting enough endgame content to justify scheduling. App is a waste of time; people will just use their LS website to schedule. The only benefit comes from having something to use in-game and is immediately at your fingertips.
I'm curious what happened to chocobo breeding and all that other fun stuff. Someone needs to revive that "Coming in 2.0!" thread and save it for future generations, so we can all go back once the game releases and find what didn't come out or was lost.
The lore stuff is always interesting, I really think one of the biggest mysteries is documenting the war and the battle for silvertear falls - what exactly happened to Midgardsormr and how it factors into everything. Lots of theories after Bahamut was revealed.
They already talked about a choco stables and breeding into diff companion classes, Its just not for sure going to be at launch.
Maybe in a later patch, same for stuff like the goldensaucer maybe even chocobo racing or colliseum items gambling casino rides etc. but just think about how much your asking in such a short time frame.
I do not think anything will be lost it is a matter of the time they can devote implementing it there are way more concerns balancing code errors so much stuff.
Besides would you not want them to put it in when they are ready or when you want it.
Cause i dont think you will like it if they are not content with it.
I never expected them to, but I do find it irritating that they basically hyped up 2.0 for over an entire year and marketed staying on for 1.0 as being able to do "once in a lifetime events" that amounted to 10 seconds cinemas and a horrible ending event (trailer notwithstanding, that was uploaded on youtube for free viewing). Fighting primals doesn't count, getting relics doesn't count, jobs, AF...everything introduced in the 1.0 timeframe outside of one boss fight is content you can do or acquire in ARR, and it will probably be a lot more fun to do than it was with 1.0's mechanics.
They've changed their roadmap twice, features expected at launch go silent, now they can't even make time for a mechanic as simple and essential as a calendar (which all major MMOs have). The signs speak for themselves, and there isn't really a Tanaka to scapegoat this time.
I'm withholding my final judgment until I get my hands on the launch build, but it'd be foolish to ignore these things.
Sighs trust me everyone who was there at the start feels hesitant but the things they have done in such a short time is undeniable.
Also your basing alot of this info for lack of a better term an abandonded game aside from the learning curve.
Use common sense look at alpha and beta they got a good testing period and they even stated no major issues.
That final event you just need to get over i was booted in the middle of it and couldnt log back in and to be honest i could careless,
more of a stress test then anything Naoki Yoshida apologized for it but he even said that the main reason they are doing a UI is to many unused resourced lack of devotion where needed basicaly.
You really didnt miss much and legacy players he said will recieve legacy awards.
So you complain for nothing aswell he apologized for something he did not even need to cause he warned about it prior.
2. Attention is on ARR all of it basically since last save on 11.1 which is before the last event.
3. Stop complaining about servers being down they are trying to not make a similar mistake which is why alpha beta are going to be long periods.
4 HYPE IT UP IM EXCITED and you should be 2 just post prayers of content or something and maybe one day it will make it. Give them some confidence again at least they pay attention to their fans. VS D3 coming out 3 days later the server was up coming from blizzard to just try to rob the community basing a game around a RMAH.
I'm actually pretty confused at everything you're saying. Sorry, but all I really get from it is that you're frustrated people are justifiably suspicious of another failure. I ask you: where does the faith come from?
The absence of a calendar at launch is a "sign speaking for itself"? Tanaka won't be there to scapegoat?
Geeze. Hyperbole much?
With everything else they have to focus on to make the actual game stable, solid, fun and consistent, and do it all without the luxury of a typical full MMO development cycle (3-5 years)... you're getting all hysterical over a freaking calendar? Really?
An in-game calendar is hardly a frigging "mission critical" feature in a game. Use your Windows calendar. Use the one in your smartphone (if you have one). Download one. Use an old-fashioned paper one. Use your linkshell's forums to arrange and organize events. There are many perfectly viable and equally reliable avenues you can use. Think a little bit. Be resourceful. What do you think people did before MMOs had calendars built in?
As for things that were listed as features for 2.0 not being in at launch.... welcome to game development and, indeed, software development overall. There's not a developer out there who wouldn't love to have their "features list" 100% complete, implemented and ready for their game or product's launch. Very few actually accomplish it. Why? Because budgets, development schedules, release dates and milestones require trade-offs to be made, things to be post-poned or otherwise re-considered. Unforeseen circumstances arise, requiring things to be brought back to the drawing-board since, as is usually the case, things seldom work as perfectly in execution as they do on paper.
And anyway, can you point me to even a single source where Yoshi-P, or anyone at SE guarantees 100% that everything they mention would be in at launch? Here's a spoiler: You can't. It was never said, because it would be a ridiculously unrealistic thing to guarantee.
As for the 1.0 events being once in a lifetime. They were. It's convenient - and also completely transparent - how you focus on only regular content that everyone's known for months now would be carried over to 2.0, and ignore all of what actually was one-time only - such as the entire story-arc, missions, cut-scenes, and encounters leading up to the finale. That was all "once in a lifetime". No one will ever get to go through that again. If none of that "matters" to you, then that's your own issue to deal with. It mattered to plenty others who appreciated it for what it was and enjoyed getting to be part of it.
If you had some pre-conceived idea of how it would all go down, based on what you wanted it to be, and were disappointed to find that SE didn't follow-suit... Well... again, that's your own issue to deal with. It's not an indication of Yoshi-P not coming through on what was promised many months back. They delivered on exactly what they said they would, to the best of their capability, given what they had to work with.
If you can't appreciate that, or obstinately want to stand there, arms crossed, feeling "they just didn't do enough to satisfy you"... well... again... your problem. But to dismiss all that and make such a remark as you did, over a frigging calendar... how much more petty could you be?
Ive followed Square since the begining they have created several Masterpieces SEVERAL. I think your lack in confidence is due to your lack of history. Although i have a sense that pretty much all dont have i feel their conviction i see it in their eyes look how strained and tired they are.
They are trying so hard for you and you just dont give them the benefit of the doubt when they could of gave up long ago.
Look at Naoki Yoshida's post they have their limits like I said, you also nit pick at things at matter little nit picking at dates and time, kinda makes you look bad.... sorry...
Please do not take this the wrong way, i am not against having an application for the authenticator/RSA key.
I do think that using an application that you can install on multiple devices to produce your authentication key is a TERRIBLE idea. The only way i would support it personally is if it were a SEPARATE key that required you to have a standard authenticator or gave the option to keep one which you could use to shut down your account or at least shut down the application controlled authenticator.
When you allow the ORIGINAL KEY to be transmitted, it can be intercepted. right now, the only way for someone to get your authenticator compromised is to gain access to the database that SE holds for authentication (in which case we would all be screwed no matter the authentication type), but when there is an mobile phone application, spyware could easily glean your original key.
TL;DR I have an unpopular opinion based on security paranoia.
keep it up you all doing a great job and i know this new FF is gonna be super great like you always do, I'm sure this time this game is gonna be really successful because i can see all of you guys are putting a lot of hard work and a lot of dedication to this game. keep the good work, and i prefer to wait few more month and see a game that i will enjoy for a long time :)
ITT: Dox dropping
This would be 11/22 from the post date, though he said 1 week after the 11/11 end in an earlier post. Well, tomorrow we shall see if 11/17 was right or not. I am not sure why I will be happy to get back in the old game, but I will... lol
If Alpha-3 starts Monday 11/19, then I may be busy. lol
If Alpha-4 (Global Test) starts Monday 11/26 I will definitely be busy!
OK... on edge of seat!

There really wasn't anything special about the end. The Imperial forces announced that they had lost contact with their ground forces. Players continued to fight Magitek stuff. I was in the process of swinging on an Imperial guard when everything went down. I looked at my watch and it was midnight PST, exactly. That was all that happened. There were some meteors and lightning in the sky. There was a lot of confusion because players were getting dropped in server crashes. But what it boils down to is that we had a gigantic battle out on the plain that we couldn't get to, or even see until we watched the trailer. And we had a continual skirmish in Mor Dhona.
Dear Yoshi,
What you have done these past 2 years has been nothing short of astonishing. You inherited a game that...let's face it, was not ready. You somehow managed to turn that mess into a game that most of us enjoy and now miss now that it's gone.
You managed to rebuild the game from the ground up in these 2 past years. That's amazing. I am proud to have been supporting XIV and SE since early release. Taking a look at where we started to where we are now...I can't find words for it.
You may think your forum posts or letters don't matter or a waste of time. Well, they do and they aren't a waste of time. It's obvious you love this game so much, and you want us to love XIV just as much as you do. We wouldn't be here if we didn't care about XIV. We want this game to succeed just as much as you do.
That leads me to my next point. Don't think we criticize the game just to do it. We just want ARR to succeed so much. Don't take our criticism as an attack.
Finally, we know you couldn't have done this alone. Your team deserves the praise too. We haven't forgotten about them.
When ARR is released, you deserve a nice, month long vacation. Take the team somewhere tropical hehe.
We love you Yoshi!
Yours very truthfully and respectfully, The Players of FINAL FANTASY XIV
Waaaait a minute. I'm doing some lore write-ups right now and just had a flashback to this.
Isn't The Keeper of the Lake a term used, not describe Midgardsormr himself, but in reference to the monument created by his corpse and the destroyed hull of the Imperial flagship (Agrius) he took down?
I was under the impression that there was a subtle but important difference between The Guardian of Silvertear Falls and The Keeper of the Lake"
