Though, honestly, I'm glad they're doing these videos. It's controlling my urge to go digging for leaked footage.
lol yeah! Mine as well!

At least it's good news for you that you can easily change the equipment for something else. It's after all the starter's equipment. And it's not like every equipment in the game is like that. About 95% of the equips are decent and more suitable.
Edit: Not trying to sound mean, just stating things
YES! FFXII-style zone markers .. <3 <3 <3 :D
[I hated not knowing exactly where the zone was in FFXI.]
The music is nice (obviously inspired by the LotR shire music)
One thing that struck me is the perception of freedom of movement in ARR (esp compared to 1.0). Originally, I was against the jumping mechanic, but I've come around to it within the larger context of ARR.
New Grid looks absolutely fantastic!, I can't wait to see the other cities!!
EDIT: ACTUAL WATER REFRACTIONS! [@1:27]
I am personally DYYINNNNNNNGGGGGG to see LL! D: My beloved city over the water couldn't have faired to well ; ; Please SE show us LL before I *starts to choke on her own blood*
I'd like to note the load times. They are super fast considering I expected more common mmo loads like gw2 or ffxi
Also though the music is nice, I think they could do a bit better with it and please se don't leave those big blue dots in a line to show us zone lines :(
Personally i like them, reminds me oh so much of: http://www.skyrender.net/lp/ff12/1-1/65.jpg
Perhaps they could be thinned out, smaller even. But i wouldn't mind if they stayed how they are.
Those are straight out of FFXII. And they are very useful (esp if running from mobs)
Also, you'll notice (@2:24) you don't even see them until you get within 5 yalms of the zone.
They did mention before on an interview that the game starts pre-loading the next zone when you start approaching the zoneline, so that when you hit it it already has a portion of it on memory and it thus reduces loading time. (which means that hanging by the zoneline is a BAD IDEA because it doubles your memory usage)
Notice that the zone transition cuts out that whole tunnel you used to have to run through?
With zone loading this fast, and zones that strategically allow us to skip previously long walks, navigating the cities will be a breeze~
I'd like to see what things look like at night..
The aetherythe crystal is right next to the Adventurer's guild! Huzzah!
Also, isn't Gridania supposed to be destroyed? Did they just reconstruct it with the exact same layout or something?
Not grid, just the black shroud around it...
I guess Grid suffered some collateral damage and had to be rebuilt a bit as well.
I'm starting to wonder if Ul'dah is going to be the most changed now...
i think that looks so normal to me..
the current "stopping animation" at EACH movement is just so overdone.. unrealistic and play unfluent.
or are you doing 1-2 steps after you stopped already moving in real life? i do personally not..
other topic. it looks great and so much more lively. but what i still miss is.. that no npc is walking around or something. there will be no difference between day and night. the children will be standing on these wood pillars all day long 24/7. which i think is a slight disappointment.
it would be so much more great if the npcs would have a real day rythm or something (not all but at least some of them), to make it even more lively.
what do you think?
i loved it. it was kinda visualized like in Final Fantasy 12 with these blue dots "oh see there is coming an other zone" just so great that little detail ;)
they took it from FF12^^ i mean
this ;)
If you love Limsa, wait for them to show it. If we play through Grid the entire beta then people will hate the crap out of it, just like how people currently hate Limsa for the 1.0 beta.
On topic though:
The game looks absolutely gorgeous IMO.
Lack of animations is whatever, it's alpha and if this community complains enough about anything they'll probably add it.
New music is amazing
My problem about camera control for now is that the char rotates with the camera, even if he stand still. During running or walking, ok. But not during standing. It is as if the world rotate under him.
They said awhile ago the cities will largely remain the same, but now it seems they are moving things around and putting zonelines in to make running through town faster.
The zone line markers are brilliant I loved them on FFXII, and I love them now. Aetherite is finally in a convenient location and the delivery moogle is where the Aetherite is in 1.0, decent location for it, kind of out the way but somewhere easily accessible.
The water looks awesome, and I'm sure the lancer's guild looks a lot more epic than now. The animations are fine the way I see it, not over the top, and not too little.
If I have to say something bad, it would have to be the path the Miqo'te jumps off seems a little high for jumping, it's at least 2x the height of her, but it's nothing game breaking (and if that was based on height, lalafell would not be able to jump of anything bigger than a Chigoe's dead body).
Ohh good catch it does look like the ones from 12<3
It's not that I don't like the ideas of zones, I would just prefer the zone lines were a bit more hmm.. natural to the environment, or perhaps on our mini maps. Blue floating dots just bugs me a little. If it was maybe a little shady at a zone line, or perhaps a border like two trees touching to make a canopy, or maybe those tall tree logs we pass through in the alphas. In uldah a rock crevice could work, or bushes even. Im sure your more creative then me but you get the idea ;)
I do hope they add a pivot animation and tweak the jumping one a bit. Otherwise looks great. Those shaders make quite a difference.
Yes
It would be better if the char don't change the direction of his view during standing and the camera rotate around him, if you know what i mean ^^
If we want to rotate with the camera we can still change to the first-person view (what is still possible in ARR seeing this video) like currently.
i just love it.
and you do not see it from the distance only when you are near to it. and it really matches the new style of the User Interface as well. Which is also in Final Fantasy neon blue color.
i liked it in FF12 and now like it in here.
Its Final Fantasy and you can see it. and definatley better then running into a wall or not seeing that there is coming a loading screen. and she runs even beyond the "loading screen wall" which is really nice.. does not seem so unfluent like you would run against a wall and stop.
That could just be a camera control, could be changeable, it's the kind of thing you need to see the configuration before you really comment on it. For that one I would wait until you play alpha/beta, then if that's the only way, comment on it.
Up to now kind of small because we don't know the configuration options in the client.
The only thing I didn't like is that the video was to short. :p
I want to see more.
Noticed they added the 'splash' effect when walk in the water finally lol
Shit.
I can tell I just lost my life
Yeah - they said they are adding life to the cities compared to 1.0 so I'd really assume this not to be the final city piece (also its still alpha :P).
Ready to get flamed.. But I hope they let higher end PCs to jack up the flora from the obvious 2d planes to something more wholesome (WoW does the the first kind of flora builds too, allows more objects on lower end pcs..). But I like that they added textures instead of pixel coloring, clear improvement over 1.0.
I so can't wait to play 2.0! Looks awesome!
they should re-release 1.0 beta version as a new game and call it wasteland. It would be a sandbox mmo where you can do whatever you want.
The animations look fine. Complainers just need something to complain about. Like grass. I seriously cringed when pepople started complaining about that. How about how the game plays people?
looks great, the city feels so much more alive ...looks really good. can't wait for 2.0 for the reals.
