I'm fairly confident that's never been said. I follow the interviews pretty close.
Are you saying NES and Famicom are two different things?
Yes I am. The NES stands for Nintendo Entertainment System. The Famicom stands for Family Computer. Regardless of the fact that they are both pretty much the same system, they have a different physical apparence, many pieces of different hardware/equipment, the games aren't interchangeable, and they have many of their own games for that matter. It's not like how modern day systems just get released in different regions, the NES was designed specifically to cater to western audiences based off the earlier released Famicom.
In any case weather you agree with me or not on that subject, the fact still remains that because FF1 wasn't released outside of Japan until at least 1990, he wasn't playing it in 1987.
That sort of thing was pretty unheard of back then considering we didn't have the internet. It would be pretty rare to even know FF existed in Japan before it was released here. Even if he did, you wouldn't have been able to hook it up to most TV's back then as it used video input cables instead of coaxial cable, and in addition to that you wouldn't even be able to plug it into the wall in your house with out a converter.
We can go into some other wild explanations like he lived in Japan and speaks Japanese (doubtful), or he has a time machine, or ancient aliens, but those all seem to venture into the realm of convenient excuses imo.
All of you hop on over to Rien's translation page and read the part where Yoshi says flat out in a Japanese interview that it would be asking too much of his staff to have it released before the end of January. So yeah, March is prob the soonest.
Oh is one of those threads where everyone and their dog become an expert in company success and advisers for SE telling them what and when to do it lol...SE doesn't give a F@#$ about your or anyone's negative opinion telling them day after day what they are doing and how is wrong .. bet they are sick of N/A's opinion ..i would be
Oh, it's one of those posts where someone tries to sound edgy by being oppositional. I wasn't making any suggestions to them, and you didn't comprehend my post correctly. I was saying that in lieu of no release date yet I think that it may be later than we suspect. Common sense would insist that for a successful launch you would want people to know the release date so they can know when to buy it. I'm just speculating though I could be wrong. Maybe they're trying something new by not announcing the release date until the last minute.
Dun worry peoples, we will definetly get ARR by 2049
the world ends in December. we will never get to see ARR till the worlds last survivors rebuild and find a copy of it in the rubble to play it.
Any date even just a month that anyone spurts out is pure speculation. Nobody knows when it's coming out. Amazon doesn't know, gamestop doesn't know, Warlock doesn't know, nobody here knows.
the game will have to be out in at least 3-6 months, otherwise why take the servers down?
Didnt they say that pc players would be allowed to beta test the game before the offcial launch?
No, there's not going to be a beta test! Those applications we filled out were just a ruse!
No developer would set a release date before having a beta. We will have a better idea when to expect the game when the beta gets going.
*Citation needed* Can you provide a link for this? If it was said I'm having a hard time finding it.
*Citation needed* Unless I'm mistaken I remember very clearly that phase one of the alpha testing would begin at the end of September. Where did you get your information that it starts at the end of October?
Closed beta only, and phase one of both the alpha and beta tests will consist of only Japanese players. So if your application is accepted, then yes you will be able to play in phase two of the beta testing. That's the way I understand it.
You're getting really worked up about this topic lol, like you are so upset at the prospect that the game may come out later than you want it that you're willing to fight about it or something.
Developers set release dates before beta testing all the time, and have done so for decades.
No release date, but we're getting yet another contest!

Alpha Starts end October =)

3-4 months of alpha and beta is probably realistic, that's why I think it won't come out until March, unless the game is running miraculously well and doesn't need a lot of tweaks.Quote:
Now, to answer the question that’s on everyone’s lips: when the heck is the alpha test going to start!? Well, it looks like things can finally get moving around the end of October.
Lol thanks, my bad. Ironically I just noticed I already posted about it on my site too: http://mijin.org/?p=1591 guess I just forgot. (October 5th I posted on it. Last paragraph.)
You took my post too personal, I was actually asking for more info on the subject because I believed you. Other than forgetting that they pushed the date back to October, all of my information is pretty up-to-date, so I'm not really sure where you get that it's not, but don't bother explaining because I don't really care XD
I am trying to find a cover of the old mag I imported games from back in 1986-1991. I can't at this moment. I thought it was called "Chips & Bits" but doing a google leaves that search kinda hard to find a old cover. I got a hint from one search that it might have been advertisement in "Electronic Gaming Monthly". Anyway, I imported my games for sega genesis and nes using those adds. They were quite expensive back in the day and even still I had to use a gameshark like device from Datel to get them to work but I did and was able to run Famicom games on my NES. Though I have to admit I never imported FF games. Being as most jp rpg's are heavily not translated to english I was not able to read the language to enjoy the games. I do know however they were in fact available to import back then though I doubt alot of people did this as most of my friends didn't have the money to keep importing every game and I sure didn't do it often myself. I really just tried to import games which I figured would never hit the US shores.
The first time I ever remember hearing about importing games was with the SNES and PS1 with the advent of the internet. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it just was a lot less common and even unheard of for me. I had subscriptions to several gaming mags too, but I don't remember any mention of how to do it ever. I remember wishing I could even find someway to do so.
Later I learned for the PS1 you had to have a mod chip that required installation or you had to do a tricky disk swapping trick. With the SNES you had to break pins off that prevented you from putting the cartridge in. As far as I'm aware though the Famicom cartridge's were completely incompatible with the NES. They may have converters or something now-a-days, but I'm pretty confident they didn't back then.
Why is this a thread? It's been pretty obvious since they first announced the revamp that we would not get the final Product til Q1 2013..
b/c the OP wanted to clarify that, despite the fact that there is no new information, he alone is considering starting to believe that it might be Q3/4.
Here you go bud, this is the part of that interview found here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...glish)/page124
"On NA Amazon it’s showing PS3 version to release in December (laugh)
Y: For Amazon heard they put 12/18 as release date for those that don’t have a set selling date (laugh) If there isn’t any sale date they can’t make reservations and it’s said for the Christmas season the week of 12/18 is the last. After for NA most products well out and goes into long break so to sell the most aiming Christmas is this timing. So basically Amazon just listed it as that without getting any announcement.
I see, so there is no way it can be released within this year?
Y: No, can't be (laugh) when we released the roadmap we stated the service will be post 2013 January. If we could release it within this year I would of already announced it M: If it was released within this year everyone in development team would die (laugh)"
So while not a diffinitive release date, it backs your theory that it COULD (but may not) be a while. Once again, we can only wait and see because clearly I don't think even SE knows yet when it will be ready. People that want to curb check you for suggesting it could take a while make me laugh. How quickly they forget this is SE we are talking about, the very people that have brought us FF VS XIII. Oh wait........
Cheers :p
