The real problem is just this. If you have different friends among different regions it'll be almost impossibile to play with all of them.

I loved to find every kind of different region-people around.. instead now i'll find 98% people of that specific region. Sorry but FF11 model is still the best choise on this argument, for me.

I'm guessing with this news, cross-server content is pretty much scrapped. Figured Yoshida would've mentioned it.

This is information I find really irritating because even though I don't actively participate with Japanese players, I rely on them for buying my wares. NA people are so damn stingy with what they buy.

This is really great and I'm very happy about it. Not only will server latency be greatly reduced but we wont be forced into the game with people who don't speak our language. Very smart move, it's not like every other MMO doesn't do this anyway.

I also don't think I've sufficiently rubbed in the fact that I told everyone this was coming, but people kept telling me I was wrong and attacking me personally with stories of magical data centers and unicorns.

I don't understand why they need to do this when they've had a regionless structure for FFXI for 10 years now.

Shit I barely played that game but I still loved the fact that you can play with everyone and anybody from all over the world, just like we've been doing for the past 2 years.

I live in the EU but move back and forth quite a bit, I have a lot of friends who live here but just as many that live in NA regions. The amazing and wonderful thing is that I can play with ALL of them, whenever I like!

Now my community is effectively being forced to break up and I'm forced to choose a side even though one of the main reasons I play this game is precisely because I never had to choose a side.

Stop being dense --- Data Centers are rally points however SE as usual were using a term to describe something different they had in mind. So you're happy you'll play with only people in your area, but you better not be complaining when you don't have "30 ms latency" even on a local connection.

Yoshi was connected to a JP-Server when he played at Gamescom and he was surprised how smooth it was running with almost no lag. I will choose whatever Server are the people on i play with currently.. so most likely NA. As no i dont really have probs with i.e. Ifrit cracks, even if im EU.

But anyways.. i prefer playing with friends, so idc much if i have 0.1 secs lag compared to everyone else <.<.

It would be slightly faster for you to connect to Japan, but in lieu of the fact that you'll most likely want to play on an English server it would be better for you to connect to the NA west coast. There wont be much more latency anyway. See: http://ansonalex.com/wp-content/uplo...-cable-map.jpg

No, you're right. There's not much that I can say about that. They'll make the gameplay experience better, but it will damage the community. As I said though, the community wanted better servers, they kinda got it. It's pretty shitty but there's not a whole lot that can be done at this point.

But how many of the NA/EU people you play with do you expect to chose a server in Japan, when they have the option to not do that?

Which are used as a rally point by a lot of companies. The company I work for has Data Centers in Japan, LA, I believe Dallas, New York and Orlando which are used essentially as rally points for it's JP/NA support.

This is disappointing news for me as well. I have a Japanese linkshell and an English linkshell with members from around the world. Global servers are one of my favorite aspects of FF XIV and FF XI. I've met so many great people from all over the place. I'm really, really sad that that is going to come to an end.

I appreciate that they won't be creating any barriers to which servers you can join--at least we have that much. But the people in this thread are absolutely right in assuming that the system they are currently planning for 2.0 will lead to de facto segregation based on region.

Regardless of the justification of the system, and regardless of the fact that people will not be forced into any one server region, this is absolutely a decision to segregate the community. I hope the development team realizes that.

I don't care from where players are coming from. People in Europe aren't worse than the one in NA or Japan. 1 player = 1 player.

So yes, if I can choose between low latency and players from same region or 300ms and international, I'll pick the first one anytime.
(I said 30ms, supposing the servers would be in the UK but it could be a bit more if it's in Germany or France...)

Wait, so If I choose to play in a server/world that's not in Japan, and all Japanese players decide they want to play on servers in Japan, I will not be able to play with Japanese players at all?

Edit: Of all the things I've complained about in this game, this has to be their worst decision yet. I really cannot believe this is happening.

It's impossible to force players to stay on a server when they have multiple friends across all regions. EU players on our linkshell will most definitely move to an EU server, NA players to NA servers and all JP players that I loved to play with will remain in JP. And since I don't belong to any, I have no idea where I'm going to go to. I'll probably end up outside of XIV.

Actually, they are. But not very many MMOs emphasize on an international community. Which is one of the things I like about this game. The international communities will still be there, but they will be severed.

That is correct, it's what players like antipika wanted in order to reduce lag.

Personally i am shocked by this news. i would rather have a bit of lag. Yoshi surely there is another way? i know your intention is to give people the choice and not cause segregation but you must understand that people are being forced into a choice like this. I personally do not like it one bit, it is another step closer to WoW imo. i love this game and XI because of the mix of people from all parts of the world and it looks like that will be no more... :(

Yep. So if playing with Japanese players is important to you, stay on the Japanese region servers and nothing will change for you. Except for maybe a mass exodus of people in your region who would prefer less lag over playing with the Japanese.

I think the current worlds are all in Japan, and they will stay that way. They will be making new ones for the other regions so no one has to move if they dont have to (Japanese players)

You are sorta dodging the point. Yes, the option is there for him to play with Japanese players. But he can also count on not being able to talk to many players unless he is fairly fluent in Japanese. QUITE A BIT, would change for him.

The reason people are upset is because they are losing something and now have to pick what to keep. No way around that. It's something they've had and they aren't in a great mood about losing it.

And rightfully so. With the way devs want to go for boss fights/battles in general, Latency is a huge thing. Sure they can work around it, like they did with Garuda and Nael. But even those suffer from problems, and the dev team will never really be able to give us more challenging content, because they would have to work around the latency.

If they just abolished the package loss, I'd be fine with sticking on a Japan-based server, even if there was some minor lag.

It's a double-edged sword any way you look at it.

It doesn't change anything. If all NA/EU players move, then you'll be on a JP world eventually. Anyway, players are the one responsible of what they want.

NA/EU are still allowed to play on JP servers. Nothing prevents a whole LS to say "we will all play on this server" and try and accommodate to the latency. If you're fine about having latency, just gather on JP server. Your call.

not many.. but thats prolly due the language-barrier.. if i would be fluent in japanese and would have many japanese friends, i would choose a jp-server.

I wonder what that means as far as the current worlds go then. Will the currently existing worlds be assigned to new data centers or will only new worlds be made for other regions?
