FFXIV Servers being brought to NA/EU No Longer JP Only

While it may seem silly in what ever corner of the gaming world you come from, it's a reality to most MMO Players. Most MMORPG's (including some of the big names) have regional servers. This really shouldn't come as a shock, it's not often that Japanese players play or interact with anyone who isn't Japanese anyway.

To me when Yoshida says, "The players will have a choice of selecting a server based in their region or a server overseas," it means they're making the servers regional. Like I already mentioned what you guys are suggesting isn't even possible to the extent of my knowledge.

I think you guys are also getting confused about what a data center is. A data center is a place that houses servers like mentioned in the post above. Please read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_center

It's true that FFXI uses multi-regional servers, but FFXI was also released in 2002, and development for the game started well before the new millenium; to give you an idea of how long ago, I can remember FFIX, X, and XI all being announced at the same time shortly after the release of VIII... Things are a lot different now than they were then, servers are cheaper, and the MMO industry has grown up.

I just don't see how content finder will resolve isolation AND latency issues.

If players from different regions were to be grouped for dungeon for instance, how would latency look like? where would the "instance" be hosted?

With content finder you will probably only be paired up with people in your region. The only reason why I brought it up is because the guy said he plays at random hours. With a cross server dungeon finder it should be easier to fin people at any hour, considering you have a larger pool of people to pull from.

A staff response clarifying what this means would be wonderful. To use an example, either we'll have Balmung designated as a server set in Japan and Hyperion set in America or you can choose which regions server you connect to whether it's Balmung or Hyperion.

There could also be an entirely different meaning that I'm missing, if so then I apologize for getting the wrong end of the stick.

I lolled so much at OPs post foam started comming out of my ears.

If i start running before i see cracks forming and by the time they errupt i am almost back to camp Broken Water and still!! get hit by it then yeah, it aint my fault dude.
but again YOU CAN WIN YES! but it just aint normal to get damaged from cracks that pop 150 yalms away from ya... pretty simple stuff. also if you are in the EU go watch a vid thats JP made on a fight like Ifrit or a tank POV on Coincounter... you will see how they play the game and compare it to yours. so hillarious...
Its actually what u see is what u get for them. they finish up their WS and are super chill walking away from stuff... we struggle like crazy.

I was being facetious. I thought I made it clear, after all, Yoshida admitted there is a problem himself in the video I linked. :)

There are undoubtedly latency issues with all of the servers being in Japan, but the reason why people are pointing out that it isn't an excuse to fail is because skilled players can work around them. I've long since collected all the Ifrit weapons and traded them off for seals, but after my first five runs or so I had no problem dodging the cracks anymore. It's all about timing. I guess it could be worse for EU; I can't say because I've never experienced it on your end. I do live on the NA east coast though.

Aside from all that, if you have foam coming from your ears you should go see a doctor. You may have a serious illness. D:

Really? I notice no server lag for Final Fantasy. But While playing Guild Wars 2 on an NA Server I definitely notice it.

Already talked about 170ms UK to Tokyo in there. And Valmonte was actually saying "blablabla 150ms is possible". So lol at "useful reply".

That is completely useless to us, retail users. We will never see the benefit of these lines for a while... So EU people are still bound to their ~280ms+ latency to Japan for upcoming years.
