The reason he wants momentum is to avoid unnatural looking jump spamming.
He's not against jump, he wants it to look better.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you won't turn the tide.
Jump is perfectly fine without timers or delay.
You are wasting your time. As many said before, you are just beating a dead horse.
But just for the sake of it (you took the time to write the post, after all), I'm officially adding my voice to the horde of people who completely disagree with you.
If you want to play a game without jump, try chess... oh wait, you have to lift the pieces. It looks totally unnatural since they are made of wood and we all know trees don't jump.
Just deal with it then? :/
I spent money on the game expecting them to finally have a FF MMO with a new "modern" engine contain jump since I mean a psp ff game like Dissidia can add it. Just saying I was hoping that they would add some more realism to the play experience, seeing jumping in cs's and by npc's and here we are these amazing heroes that can do anything and we are grounded. I just like to jump because I for one even in real life, because I can. Jump over obstacles in my way or for the hell of it, because I can, why must I not be able to do it in a game? Because some few say it is "unrealistic"? I agree though this has been beating a rotting smelling horse. We are getting jumping, it is now part of the dynamic new world and the world knows it, so for SE to go back in now and change it back to no jumping would ruin any chance of them ever getting new players in the future.
The whole reason he wants the minor lag is because it looks wrong to him.Quote:
Watching the gameplay videos that have thus far been released, every time someone jumped for no real reason other than simply for the sake of jumping it felt out of place in the general aesthetic of final fantasy games. Especially when the lalafells jumped, the relative height of their jump compared to their body height was really jarring to look at for me.
He doesn't want to stop you from jumping. He wants a minor momentum lag to prevent spamming and keep it natural looking while still being a viable option for gameplay or recreation.Quote:
Nothing major, maybe only slowing you down by a tiny fraction after a jump. But however minor, it would prevent people from jumping constantly for the sake of jumping while traveling places, and only jumping to clear obstacles that would offer shorter pathing.
Let's talk about grass. It sure is getting tall.
Does it really bother you that much that you want to control how others play?
Oh, stop it.
Expect to have someone attempt to jump over your character once every 2.3 seconds while trying to complete any activity.
God only knows how you poor flowers coped during the Olympics, High Jump, Long Jump.... TRIPLE Jump, it must of been an overwhelming assault on your senses.
i dunno about you guys but the first thing i am gonna do when i log into 2.0 is jump. then i am gonna get on my Chocobo and jump some more. f**k it i am gonna jump everywhere...
I played WoW for over a year and never had a problem with people jumping. Bring it on!
I actually find it insulting that we cant jump, it bugged me in FFXI and bugs me in XIV. We can fight huge monsters, cast elemental spells, heal people and even bring people back to life, but we cant lift 2 feet off of the ground, just seems pretty stupid if you ask me.
So does running, but I don't recall seeing any threads demanding the immediate halt of people running in circles around their friends. I mean, nobody would EVER do something like that, so it needs to be fixed. Add a 3 second delay to moving if you did it in a way that offends me.
Denial is fail
you know you want it in FF14

Screw that nonsense...I want this in Final Fantasy XIV.

Anybody who disagrees hates fun. Stop hating fun.
Because you can just walk over or around them without any loss of time or movement.

That's not the same thing, and that's why you don't see people requesting a way out of that. You can easily move out of the way, to a wall, follow him instead, go in a crowd, or just let the lag make it look like he's running in an odd triangle somewhere near you.
We have spam blockers for shout and emote spam. And sense we're on the subject, if we include jumping, why not crawling or handstands. You don't want to restrict my movement right? Why not let us climb buildings or slap the top of a doorway as we enter?
Maybe people don't request it because it's actually not a big deal. I'd be willing to put money on it that 99% of the people crying about jumping never played a game with it. Coming from someone who has played many MMO's where you can jump, it's seriously not a big deal at all.
And I don't think you know who you're talking to. If I had the option to walk in any of those ways, I totally would. I want a TF2 Spycrab walk SO BAD!

I think you missed the gamescom footage. You missed the part where they jump to get over fences, and down steep ledges. You prefer to walk and phased through objects or just let it be an unavoidable obstacle?
I don't think your logic justifies your means of restricting jump
edit: the fastest way between two points will always be a straight line.
Also coming from someone who's played many MMO's, it's one of the most annoying things about them. It's the reason people do request some way to stop or alleviate jump spamming.
Also, remember Gifthorse? He wanted the game to have all sorts of acrobatics and climbing and crawling and swimming, but everyone was so against him because his demands where so anti Final Fantasy, so obtuse, as if he wanted them because a free korean MMO had them.
Yet, when it comes to jumping, it must be added and fully integrated so you can do it whenever, no matter how pointless it is to gameplay.
I'm not mad at jumping. If I can be perfectly honest, it's just a minor annoyance to me. But what really steams me up is the response to the people who really don't like it. It's the "LOL I'm just gonna do it to spite you! Nah nah nah nah naaaaaaah!" Bullshit that pulls me into a frenzy. "It's a standard!" "Just leave if you don't like it!" "You're an idiot!" and the likes they get, encouraging that sort of playground scornful fanaticism.
It all seems to stem from blind defense, spite, or general stubborn refusal to lend an ear to opposition, and it kills me to see us follow the same mistake over and over.
That's the type of behavior I expect from an anonymous image board, but in a place where you've identified yourself, why perpetuate it? I know people here are smarter than that. I've seen well thought out views and explanations from all sides.
And I'm guilty of being hasty and thoughtless myself, and for that I apologize. I think we could all strive to make this community as open and thoughtful as it could be, instead of using stock reactions or cleverly worded hate for everything we don't agree with.

Edit: I also stop reading when he said "A friend told me that in WoW"
it bugged me at first but to be honest, since its coming anyway, i don't care anymore...
let them hop around if it makes them happy
you know people are going to abuse it just because they can nothing you can do about it.
Let the people jump. If anything, someone should make a video as soon as we're all logged into the game of everyone jumping in rhythm to "Jump" by Kris Kross.
After that, everyone should be well entertained.
How about we discuss stuff like how to improve the battle system?
Quest storylines and their quality.
Job balance?
You know stuff that actually matters when comes to quality of this game.
These kinds of threads make me just want to mash the jump button out of spite when it becomes available.
If it allows me to drop over a 2 foot cliff and not get stuck on ledges, I'm all down for jumping. Other than that, it's just an added game feature for ppl to like/dislike.
I think that I am going to track down every person who ever made this complaint and circle around them at full speed, jump now and again, brandish/sheathe a moogle weapon fifty-odd times, and then spam the hell out of /laugh just so I can get you folks to stop taking yourselves so bloody seriously.
Human beings are so damned single-minded. You give them an idea to fixate on and they will focus upon it to the exclusion of all else, in this case, that somehow the act of jumping alone is going to ruin the immersion in a fantasy game where folks wield weapons that would lay most folks flat on their back, invoke arcane powers to hurl thunderbolts and fireballs through the air, and ride fluffy yellow chickens in place of horses.
There have been dozens of threads upon this very topic, and precious few others, with regards to ruining the immersion of those playing. Why? A whole lot of folks latched onto one idea and focused upon it, ignoring all the bridge-out signs along the way.
It's also good to know that the Final Fantasy Feel™ is determined by your incapacity to defy gravity. Amongst all the other things that make Final Fantasy what it is, that this is foremost among its features is reassuring knowledge.

I'm tired of people talking about beating a dead horse. You are all just accepting it. The developers have given us a very special opportunity to help dictate how the game will turn out and everybody is just accepting when they are dissatisfied. I for one will take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity and agree with the OP. This is NOT a dead horse and it is NOT beaten beyond death. This is an issue that, if the developers have the resources and time, should fix. I don't care what the priority is, if the developers get that opportunity to make this feature better, please ignore the naysayers. Because for all we know they have the time and resources to change the jump feature but are seeing a bunch of complacent players who would rather kiss ass than show any shred of doubt in their beloved 2.0
I admit if in party with a Lalafell, and I'm not doing anything at the time, I will be prone to bunny-hop over them. Repeatedly. Until they move or I get bored of it. :x
