There used to be a group of people who'd meet up on Balmung and chat in /say about random stuff; I didn't engage with them much but I occasionally visited to say hi to a friend who was there. One day some guy apparently got mad at at this group for some reason or another and he proceeded to sit there for hours every day reporting anything remotely reportable in chat. People there ended up getting warned for basic stuff like expletives, and sure enough everyone stopped talking in public and moved to tells/Discord. Sadly the game is absolutely filled with antisocial weirdos like that, and as a result XIV is probably one of the most quiet MMOs out there with barely anyone talking in public. It's a real shame.

This kind of attitude I have a problem with. If they are making jokes while actively participating then there's no issue or "shouldn't be". If you're going to gripe over something because you think 1 man not typing for 15mins can change a course of a frontline match you're mistaken. I can sure you 90% of the people don't care and if you're one of those people that gets mad over it then you need to go outside.

Just look at how much people go at each others throats over the recent Fork Tower incidents, how much the hardcore groups blame casuals for dumbing down the game, how those same casual groups blame the hardcore over elitism, how people look at RPers as lonesome gooners who do things I will not say in this thread. Funnily enough, I now see casuals complaining that the hardcore crowd dumbed down the jobs to make it easier for Square to design raids with.

Many of these stereotypes can be true for these groups, but not everyone (I'd argue most) don't fall into those stereotypes. Hardcore players just like hard content, they don't want normal content taken away, and they'll learn how to play jobs regardless of how smart or dumb they are. Casuals just want a good time where they can log on, talk with some friends, do a roulette, or whatever the latest content is; they don't really care that they're not the greatest ever at <insert job here>, just that they find it fun even if they don't have full 100% uptime on their GCD. RPers just like chatting, getting into a character and be part of a story, some are happy to go into more mature stories, others just want light-hearted adventures; not all of them care to sexualize their characters.

Too many people see each other as the enemy, they just hide it behind a fake personality to not get in trouble with the GMs, but boy if that mask slips on another they deem as from the "toxic" part of the community, they're happy to report them out of the game.

They wont react unless you actually did something wrong, or your way of playing the game is all the time on the edge and reports just has been piling up or that someone finally had the courage to report it in.

It is not them, it is you.

It means you need to change your approach to things, that is why you got the warning, it literally say so, if you continue the way always did or some of the times you do or whatever, then you may get end getting some days of vacation.

How did this person get that warning but the Weebo Police still gets away with disrupting Limsa with hundreds of copies????

This I agree with, but it's an unavoidable problem.

The broader gaming community as a whole isn't particularly nice. FFXIV has a faux reputation for being nice simply because it's aggressively moderated.

One consequence is that the bottled-up nastiness tends to get expressed in other ways, either through cunning implementations of the report function as a form of PvP, or through the hostility and bile you find on many 14-related Discord servers.

There is no 2nd or 3rd place in PvP, only winning will bring progress towards quite a few things, if one person, or a group of persons on purpose does malicious stuff, then it is a serious case and highly offensive, when in pvp modes you need to do your best, even if you are bad at pvp, at least to be able to show the other ones playing respect.

Actually there is if you don't win then que again and go at it. It's not the end of the world. You keep trying though it's better to only focus on yourself you'd do better in the long run.

Yeah, but this thread isn't about winning or losing frontline, this thread is about a person actively sabotaging engagement for lulz and then moaning about how unfair it is that the GMs punish you for that.

If this is truly offensive, then what happened to the social aspect of MMOs in this game? It's what makes the experience memorable after all.

I've played multiple MMOs, both with open-world PvP and with instances (Their frontlines counterpart) and one of my most memorable experience is the one that happened in WoW back in 2016 where we (The Horde) got demolished by the enemy (The Alliance) and were just talking and throwing jokes in the chat. Another one was having a group fishing (Including with the other faction) inside the instance itself.

Truth be told, I feel the OP here. Because SE or its customer support needs to stop listening to every single complaint and ticket raised. If someone is bothered, let them be bothered because it doesn't automatically make them correct. Unless there's a clear case of gameplay sabotage with malicious intentions (Encouraging the people to give up, refusing to heal, etc...) that is REPEATED and not a one-off happening, then yes, there could be some TOS enforcements happening. If it's just people enjoying or having fun together, while still actively participating and not being outright rude to another player, then why would they get a warning/ban?

They also need to be clear about what the violation is, rather than simply mentioning the violated rule, because I know multiple people who have received warnings and bans without knowing what their violation is exactly. Just a vague rule that could be interpreted differently by each person.

Only thing that counts in PvP in FFXIV is winning, also this post is about a person that think has been wrongfully warned for having done bad stuff towards others in possible pvp.

Nah, don't believe it. People chat in frontline sometimes. To get in trouble with the GMs you must have done a little more than some harmless banter.

There's actually a lot you can get away with in this game as long as you don't say anything. We've had threads where people were stalked by someone who simply followed another player against that player's wishes, but since all they were ultimately doing was showing up and standing there, action wasn't taken against them. And I've had plenty of passive aggressive duty roulette heroes who play like garbage on purpose after feeling slighted in some way, but since they never made it loudly known that they were griefing, they got to just continue griefing in the future. Lesson learned, right? Can't say shit in this game. But stalking, clogging towns with hundreds of identical copies of an eyesore alt, griefing quietly, and just being an obnoxious piece of shit in passive aggressive ways? Totally fine. Also LMAO at all the people who don't believe OP, like it's so unbelievable that the narcissistic fragile people who play this game might get butthurt over some minor remark and the moderation team would do what they're notorious for doing (which, again, is why NOBODY SPEAKS WITH RANDOMS) and just issue a warning over basically nothing. The fact that they don't even tell you what you did wrong shows that they don't want transparency, because they realize they're full of shit and don't want people viciously mocking them on social media.

That's true. Some people queue for frontlines for the daily rewards, others just for the sake of PvPing (As in, doesn't matter if it's a win or lose, they just want to fight someone)

This is a general rule for any online game. Not everyone involved is the same.

frontline gives series exp and half a level. if i have to tolerate cure I users in dungeons, pvp mains have to tolerate people having fun in alliance chat

As for this particular thread...yeah, SE enforces its TOS quite strictly. It's a Japanese game with Japanese norms enforcement, and that results in what a lot of Western gamers feel is an extremely fake politeness. One way or another, your average player isn't going to encounter a lot of easily misconstrued banter or trashtalk in the game and the community at large will absolutely not tolerate suggestions of throwing PVP matches no matter how lighthearted and in jest you think the suggestion was made.

Kind of comes down to the Ancient Internet Adage: LURK MOAR. Find out what the community at large is like before barreling in. Shame OP had to spend $60 to find out he doesn't like the community though.

Frontline is a mode where there are too many factors outside your control for you to ever ensure success. Nobody should be taking it that seriously or getting mad over it. It's the PvP equivalent of an alliance raid.

As to your vapid observation that an individual cannot ensure success, yeah that would be odd wouldn't it? With tryhards having 100% win rates. What an individual can do is reduce the chance of success through lethargic or disruptive play. And it's against the rules:

You've answered your own question. Nobody knows if you have to step away briefly because of RL, so it's actually completely different. The social communication in FL is very important for helping the team win. Spamming chat with irrelevance helps the team lose.

Because of the frenetic pace, it is difficult to be noticed at all in FL. A couple of one-liners in chat won't register with most of the team. You have to be a real PITA to type enough in chat to even get on the radar of others. Actually getting reported demands an even higher bar, since it requires someone to be sufficiently pissed off they go through the cumbersome process of filing a report.

We don't know what OP said to cross this threshold, but it takes a lot of effort to be so disruptive that someone files a report, and for the GM to then issue a warning.

When I run roulettes, people will say hi at the start, sometimes, and then shut up for the whole rest of the thing because nobody's trying to catch a case like OP. But go off.

So you think OP got a warning for doing absolutely nothing? Despite the fact they have mentioned things they have said that are obvious ToS violations?

There's a big gap from throwing in a report to a GM acting on it.
