Rewards are Punishment. Yes.

What I don't get is why they don't at least integrate some of their current systems into the glamour dresser.

Lets take relic weapons, currently if you want a replica weapon, you first have to go to the NPC (North Shroud, Azys La, Kugane, and so on) and use a menu that is different from each other (one list them per step, another per job and yet another per role, why can't you just update it with a simple drop down menu for each of them). So an easy solution for all this would be to integrate a replica relic part into the glamour dresser similar to how we have the Armoire, so when you create a relic it becomes available as a replica in this section.
They could also easily do this with the artifact armors you get for free (SHB/EW/DT), and even the Recompose NPC could be added since they do have some items you can't store in the Armoire such as the Garo PVP gear.

Agree, lack of a glamour log done properly (and not half-assed) is needed. The spahetti code excuse died years ago. It's 2025, FIX THE CODE. The devs have the source code, they can do whatever they want and choose not to. The money they make from the game should be put into the game first, then off to other projects. I can't do any new glams because i only have 20 plates. I want 20 plates per job plus another 100 for non-job glams. There shouldn't be a limit anyway.


I have designs on how to do it if any dev is interested i can explain.

The difference is that FF14 has an eco system for dyes. Many players are earning Gil with farming dyes and sellling them.

Transmog system can't storage dye data. That's why the new implementations in FF14 also can't storage dyes. And I don't like it to use purewhite and jetblack again and again.

The mobile version has transmog because it killed the whole dye economy.

That's just lack of imagination. You can have dyes part of the glamour dresser - a one-way storage box of 999 dyes each where people can deposit their dyes to be used in outfits.


In fact, i would even prefer if dyes were a consumable that are applied to each item to permanently unlock that dye on that item account-wide.


I do like the dye economy, i don't want it taken away, but there are ways to improve the glamour system and it's frustrating because the solutions are so obvious.

Dyes are a non issue. I have no idea why people think having a modern glamor system is mutually exclusive with storing dye data.

It makes no sense why they let these issues rot, and they focus on making 9000 cutscenes in the latest expansion when they could shift some of those resources over to adjusting and fixing old code, it doesn't make any sense.

There is a reeking issue of mismanaged priorities and the ignored community.

Everyone wants this game to be good, but it seems like at this point the game is in managed decline. It's apparent that the development team is deeply distracted with other projects.

They have to be working on another game, right? There's been so little meaningful improvements to this game. I thought Dawntrail was gonna address so much more. It didn't do much for the health of the game in any real way.

You are right on the money about rewards.

When it was announced a new glam system was coming practically the entire player base warned SE to use something like WoWs.
SE turned around and laughed that they know best and their system will be far better.

It came out, players hated it, SE shrugged and went "Whoops teehee, too late now, cant change it, spaghetti code yadda yadda".
We COULD of had a system that works but SE "Always knows best". They know what players want even if we tell them what we want is different from what they tell us we want...... and look how thats turning out for the game......

But the SE way you have to pay for retainers. Money is good for the company you see.

PS4 game. Can't even discard stuff/queue up/teleport/craft while other certain windows are open. Oh dungeon queue popped, gotta change job, can't change job while window x is open, can't close window x while interacting with y. Can't stop interacting with y without clicking through a series of popup boxes. Whole framework of this game is utter trash. Stop comparing it to WoW, a PC game by one of the best companies when it comes to controls and UI.

Square is good for ingame music and stories/character design to a certain degree, that's about it.

Absolutely agree, there are a good number of features in many other games FFXIV could use.

I can't quicksynth housing items. Why? Who knows!
I can't automatically hit a "complete all crafts" required button for a craft that's 10 or more levels below the cap, which are trivial to max quality anyway (1 button for quality, then progress for the rest). Gachas do this well, you just hit a button and it does the micromanaging for you.,
I can't desynth a bunch of junk items that I want to with one press, instead being forced to click each item individually. Why can't I just hit a button that's like "desynth all not in armoury chest"? Again, gachas do this well, one button.
I can't hit a toggle for the **nag-boxes**, the "are you sure?" "frfr?" "no cap?" ones. Yes game, I want the collectable fish. I want to dye these 200 housing items.

The list of complaints goes on and on, a lot of quality of life improvements just dont exist in this game, when they have in others for, in some cases, at least a decade.

There's something deeply wrong with the way the game is programmed and they refuse to fix it. Refactoring something like this shouldn't have been ignored for 10 years. It's beyond unacceptable.

So, in replacing the items with an achievement we would have to add as many more bits as we have items per character, yes, but we could then also remove the 800 inventory spaces of glamour dressers, which are far more than a bit each.

Moreover, if we wanted, we could transition item-based materia into currency, reducing it into one bite each per type instead of up to, what, 13 item IDs and associated inventory slots and counters per type.

Finally, if we wanted to move materia and glamours to be job-based instead, independent of the actual gear pieces, we could reduce the number of tags per gear-piece by 53 to 89% (depending on whether stats are just bundled in with the original item ID, in which case each piece of gear could hold as little as only that).

Think expanding the 'outfit' system to include non-cosmetic gear would go a long way to 'band-aid' fixing the issue.

This. Just being able to group up all the same-model jewelry from a dungeon would free up so many slots in my dresser!
Sometimes, some dungeon sets are so nice you want every single piece. Or sometimes you just want two pieces, but at that point might as well collect everything so it only takes one slot in the dresser. I'd love this.

While that'd be nice, I don't expect that to happen any time soon, specially considering YoshiP's stance on it the last time he was asked about it. Hopefully he has changed his mind since then, but at least extending the outfit functionality to everything else would be a great start.


I don't necessarily mind the level restrictions. It's not like it's hard to level up, so if it's less work for them to keep that in there, I don't care.

Ok time to rip the bandaid off. The reason we have an inventory based glamour system instead of a skin log like wow is really simple. At $2 a retainer they have 0 incentive to clear up the bank space that is statistically most likely to be holding glam items for collectors. As long as we're getting sold bank tabs I doubt this will change. And if "data storage" is the concern a wardrobe like wow takes up less data than bank tabs and the dresser.

Devs have 0 reason to work or improve their spagheti code. Why work when you can just say lol spagheti code says no so we wont.

Its a easy way to say, we dont feel like investing resources for a problem you been dealing since day one. It worked than and it will work now.

Been feeling this hard lately. I used to enjoy collecting all the gear for my main class (apologies to all my other classes), and collecting treasure so that I could craft and collect rare glams. It is definitely a disincentive to a lot of gameplay to be unable to fully enjoy the rewards. I find myself thinking more and more, "oh, I'll do that content if/when we get more space in the glamour dressers" (such as if they implement outfit sets for blue/green gear).

the problem is more that you have to be in a sanctuary to use as well... which is also annoying.... I don't mind the prisms, that is absolutely fine, but they should expand the inventory, likewise making more items for people to wear and old gear sets from before Dawntrail wearable by all jobs, once PLACED IN THE GLAMOUR DRESSER.

As it is now people are just finding alternative routes to wear what they want no matter how the Developers designed the items.

As a more well known example, players wanted more stash space in Diablo 4, only to find out that the reason Blizzard was reluctant to provide it was because their existing setup loaded (into memory) the entire inventory and stash contents of every player you encountered. We can be aware of spaghetti code and still have reasonable expectations commensurate to the payment given and the margin of profit the game therefore generates.

The only way in which we could be said to be asking for <a simpler, more intuitive, and ultimately less data-intensive implementation already demonstrated across multiple MMOs, including ones that the XIV dev team themselves have played and explicitly taken cues from repeatedly> to be done as quickly as "switching the light on" is in that we gave assumed it'd take a decent bit of time but also have been asking for it for a decade now.

Chiming in here to add it really should be shared across account. ALL rewards. Not being alt friendly is ridiculous at this point. I know I'm not alone in not wanting every reward on one single character, not everything fits and it's pointless to do content I'd want the reward on an alt for. I'm not redoing the story/same content again per alt either, it's ridiculous to expect that or to shell out money for a skip for every single one.

WoW is bringing in housing and has alt friendliness. Frankly, it has much more to offer. I'm not interested in swapping to it, I want this game to improve, all of my stories and houses are here, after all. But my mentality isn't the same as others and I'm assuming plenty will leave for the game that simply put offers a lot more in general.

The 'all jobs on one character' thing is worthless to me, personally. It's not why I have alts to begin with.

Note: I know not everyone views alts this way, just sharing my perspective and gameplay. Not putting anyone down for just playing one character or wanting to. This is about those of us with alts.

100% agree. "All jobs on one character" is nice in theory, but the ludicrous levels of time-gating in this game hamstring it to a frustrating degree. It's the primary reason I always gravitate back to Guild Wars 2...

Simply just making MSQ-progress-based unlocks account-wide and nothing else would be an incredible QoL upgrade for FFXIV. And, to be clear, that doesn't mean the story is already done for you on alts! It just means anything unlocked via the story that you've done on another character on your account is already unlocked.

I would love a system like WoW's. Just realistically we will never get it because the game charges real money for extra retainers.

Same. I like the idea, but in practice all of my alts have their "main" jobs and one or two secondary jobs in their stories. I still play whatever I want in-game, but if each character was limited to, say, 5 jobs I wouldn't be terribly upset. It'd give me more reasons to go on my alts, though I understand this could be really inconvenient for others players and I don't want it to happen at all.

Pretty much. Bare minimum, we should have gotten an additional retainer for free with every expansion, glamour plates = to the number of jobs in the game (DoW/DoM/DoL/DoH), and an upgrade to 1600 slots in the glamour dresser slots at 7.0

Guild Wars 2 also has a better system to fashion....hell, 4 dye channels...Hell, better banking overall..

Yet somehow this game is stuck in limbo....I recently tried the outfit system and was baffled that the items lost their dyes and could only be dyed on glam plates. Feels more like an inconvenience than a feature.... Needing the entire set to make an outfit. It's not a well thought out system tbh.

A cynical part of me thinks things would never really improve and it's just a 'wink wink nudge nudge buy more retainers'.

A lot of people play MMO's to "collect them all". Having the transmorg interface WoW has would absolutely encourage others (myself included) to get everything. You can also easily tie rewards to it: EG, fill out X amount of pages or collect X amount - get a new glamour. Quite a lot of potential.

Will we ever see it? I hope so.
