I love how FF14 Costumes is more then the entire WoW shop combined.

Wow costumes are horrible. You get some free decent ones from The trading post.

I'm kind of impressed that it took them until 7.1 to actually realize there was a noticeable lag on the tank death prevention CDs despite it being brought up countless times and if I'm not mistaken dismissed as something that wasn't the fault of the game itself.

The only thing that turns me off from WoW is the way they handle the expansions. Wdym I have to make separate characters to play older stuff.

Blizzard monetization is hardly more predatory than FF14 as earlier post ITT shows.

But, good thing WoW has Heroic and Mythic + thats scaling forever for dungeons and the dungeons are actually different from each other in design unlike FF14.
Though, saying normal dungeons are dull while enjoying the mostly linear delves that u can solo is pretty funny.

I 100% agree, something like Delves would be great in XIV, esp for casual to midcore players. TWW has been a great time, esp compared to DT, from story to events, to just gameplay. I wish they would steal a little bit from FFXI too while they are at it. How amazing would it be to get something like Dynamis, Assault, Campaign or Beseiged? I love how in XI even "trash" mobs have a chance to drop items that you need instead of just being there as filler to make a series of square rooms with boss battles feel more like a raid instead of what it really is, a glorified trial.

Besieged, btw, just got a boost to make it relavent again. It's still pretty quick but they are going to be doing adjustments to it until they find the sweet spot. Something you can actually count on the FFXI team to do but not the FFXIV team. If the FFXIV team did have it, it would forever stay faceroll because it would be abandoned immediately.

We don't need delves though, we need something like bozja or eureka with cool rewards and iirc one is due for DT but Sqenix is actually super silly because they should just include that at release and then add to it during the expansion.

Realistically because Sqenix apparently doesn't have the manpower or resources to make all that content. I mean it took them 5? months to come up with few "talk to Y NPC" quests, add few mechanics to a pre-existing trial and 1 corridor dungeon.

Yeah but that $90 Brontosaur mount, which comes with a vendor and access to the auction house while mounted, used to be a thing that only costed 6 million gold in-game originally and was available to everyone to buy it at any time. Then they decided to make it severely limited so that only by buying it from the black market npc, if it showed up at all at that time, could you buy it with in-game gold. However on the black market, people would it often it bid up to gold cap, aka 10 million gold. And then we get to the shop where they sell a solution to you, for $90 you can have the mount instead of using the black market, a solution from a problem they created.

This sets a precendent that Blizzard can put any mount on the shop if they wanted to that was originally available through in-game means. Where has FFXIV done that?

Except it doesn't because it's not the same longboi now is it? How many invincibles,scarab lord, Anu'relos etc do you see in the store? And u can literally still go buy the mount from black market. The 90 buck store mount is infact, cheaper than the old one if u were to compare the price in WoW tokens. Not that I really care because I don't own either and never will because mounts for me are whatever.

That just means SE needs to up their game if they want to stay competitive. If they would give the game the money and time it deserves, they could easily do something of this small scale.

Literally every mount made available from seasonal events. And that doesn't even count the ones they just slapped a new coat of paint on and tried to sell it as something new, like the Bennu mount or the Red Baron and White Devil mounts.

SE also does this tho. The level boosts, story skips, retainer boosts, and now an exp earring too all of that is just time saver stuff. You can try to demonize Blizz, but SE does the same thing. What makes one bad and one not?

I mean it's just a mount that u don't even need so it's crazy to me that people are losing their mind over it. Is portable AH nice? sure. Is it required? lol no. And if one person in a group has the mount thats enough to use it if u need it but realistically this is mostly just useful for gold goblins. What is Invincible again? Basically a reskinned horse but its not like Invincible's worth suddenly got downgraded because of that or the fact it's a generic flying mount like every other mount in the game and u can still acquire it by doing LK.

And they won't sell either of those because they are prestigious mounts, especially scarab lord and they wouldve done it already if they planned on it. They are not comparable to a longboi which was not a special mount other than the pricetag and utility it offered.

Because Blizzard was doing it first. The level boosts for World of Warcraft were part of Warlords of Draenor in 2014. FFXIV didn't start doing that until 2017. And Warlords of Draenor at the time was considered one of the worst expansions, only later topped by Shadowlands.

And just to further point out, the whole selling of mounts in shops, that was Blizzard first as well with Celestial Steed. It was notable at the time, as it was the first account-wide mount that was both a ground mount and a flying mount.

I bet you anything if FFXIV had a portable retainer and auction house access on a mount, it would be one of the fastest selling things on the shop. Because having in-game features beyond just being a mount is valuable to players.

Well yeah Blizz did it first. That is like being mad for your dad doing something first. WoW is an old man in the mmo world, esp with mounts. Just because a game did it first, when it was already 10 years old when this game came around, doesn't make it worse. If blizz also introduced level skips in 2014 that was already over 10 years into its life cycle and it's 5th expansion, compared to 4 yearrs and 3 expansions into XIV's lfie cycle, which is a lot sooner. So I still say you are just reaching for a reason to hate on blizz because you just want to hate on it.

And Bethesda actually did it first in 2006 with the horse armor dlc which set the precedent for these sorts of shenanigans. iirc the celestial steed didnt come out until 2010.

There are plenty of reasons to hate on both SE and Blizz, no need to reach so hard to find something. you're gonna pull something lol.

You do know that any item on the WoW store can also be obtained via buying WoW tokens and exchanging them for Blizzard balance right?

So let's do a little math then shall we? The WoW token is exchangeable to $15 on your battle.net account for 271,388 gold at this moment. So at this amount it would take 6 WoW tokens to hit $90. That means this lovely Bronto can also be obtained for 1,628,328 gold which is a hell of a steal compared to the original bronto mount as you cited.

My point here is you could also obtain this mount with gold, something that is not possible in 14 at all. Is the $90 bronto an egregious addition, yes it is. I would argue though then the fact 14 has shop exclusive movement speed increasing mounts and the only 8 seater mount in the game (unless DT added one I was unaware of) is also rather egregious especially consider I can get that bronto for gold as noted in the math earlier.

RMT would be an issue in FF14 if gil actually mattered but it doesnt but u still see bots daily in each city advertising while I don't see any of that in WoW. RMT has always existed, will always exist even back in TBC era of WoW with the incursion of chinese goldfarmers. I'd rather give my money to blizzard than Chang personally.

Also this part is false because WoW token gold doesn't appear out of thin air and their price has a cap. Boosting is also not against WoW rules and boosting happens a lot, even with RMT, in FF14. If it wasnt for tokens it'd be for something else. Paypal transactions arent hard to setup. And u can literally RMT in FF14 and buy gear off the market board? Or I could pay for ultimate carries with my paypal balance?

I could equally say after having added up all the numbers myself, I am never buying a thing from the 14 store again. It was rather eye opening to add up row after row and go "How is Costume Sets alone worth more then WoW's whole store." The reason I ran those numbers was curiosity at this claim that Blizzard was way worse about their monetization of WoW after seeing it cited for so long and I wanted actual data. I won't disagree both are bad but 14 is a whole lot worse on the overall due to the aggressive amount of small purchase items. You never really realize how much $7 emotes or $18 outfits add up and that was the point of my former comparison.

And if you got caught doing that in 14, you would get punished by SE. Again, you missed the point about having access to legal tender gold selling and RMT in world of warcraft thanks to the gold token.

Part of the reason the wow token is even as pricey as it is right now is because of bots in wow. Most common class used for botting? Druid, specifically Moonkins. Its been years at this point and Blizzard still hasn't fixed that, leaving it up to automation instead of actually having gms.

The thing about the WoW store is they constantly rotate items out each month and keep some permanently. The XIV store has kept every single item available since day 1. While WoW abuses fomo, XIV abuses the sheer amount.

I raise you FFXIV doing nothing about multiple FC houses owned. Running fleets of submarines.

I mean Blizzard should improve overall, very messy and shakey transition, but now they can throw money and people at development...

With Squadrons, you are the leader/commander. With Trusts, it’s standard AI party members to act in place of actual people. WoW’s take on it is pathetic and cartoony. I wouldn’t be caught dead playing a game like theirs with offensive and stupid looking characters (disproportionate body sizes, gnomes only having 8 fingers, elves having cockroach eyebrows, etc.). The Trust characters in FFXIV have way better dialogue as they give you lore tidbits tied to the dungeon, scenario, or enemies. WoW has theirs jumping around acting like cartoon characters.

Not as smooth as a token but retainers provide gil, so if you max your retainers you'll earn a non-uselsss amount passively. Not that I think this is really important on who does the cash shop worse, cash shop sucks in general lol. Also for WoW they do take stuff off the shop, so the total damage there is harder to calculate.

I did include one WoW Token in Character services. Yes it is an infinitely buyable item but I also included every Fantasia pack for 14 once as they are also able to be purchased multiple time and we obviously have no calculated numbers on how much either games does sell of those so I can't include that total here.

You can look up all of the items that were removed from the shop. Were you to include them into the list Xeronia provided, FFXIV's cash shop is still around 2-2.5 times larger in terms of cost. You can look at the list yourself on wowpedia/wowhead if you think I am lying, but at most the total cost of the items removed is between $200-500 USD.

Note all items that are not character services/WoW Token are account wide, which means all characters are able to access the items upon creation or when you are given the ability to mounts is.

More I keep hearing this idea WoW is somehow worse, I again have stated several times I got curious and did a side by side comparison of all on offer. WoW has higher prices but less quantity, 14 has lower prices but a bigger quantity of products that really adds up. I have said several times now I was curious about the monetization of both games and ran the comparison. Of course I do not expect you are buying every item on offer.

This way of comparing shops is... beyond absurd.

Get one of each item and sum the prices? Think this through -- for example, dyes are sold single or in a pack of ten. Imagine they also sold in dyes in packs of 20, 40, and even 100 -- would we be complaining so much harder then because now our total includes the cost of not 11 copies of the same dye but 171 copies of the same, because we apparently buy one of each size bundle?

But also this act like the WoW store requires much less money to 'buy out' because it assumes everyone buys only one single WoW token, ever, in this side by side comparison?

Also by this logic, if one shop sold them a mount to own permanently for $10, and the other store sold them an in-game permit to ride the same mount for a single hour for 5$, apparently they would say the one that sells it to them permanently is the ripoff because $10 is more than $5, leaving out that the propositions of what it is they are buying are completely different?

That anyone put in enough effort to go through every page of the store to tabulate the items and their prices, and then did something so useless with all that, is at the same time ridiculously impressive and impressively ridiculous.

Hmm lets just dont count our beloved raid bosses which are buyable as Mount in 14s Shop instead of beeing obtainable ingame right ? FFXIV could do something like this Mount aswell and guess what people would buy it even without hessitation. Like buying glamour of other Final Fantasys or Raid boss Mounts and even wanting more stuff beeing added since one state Clouds hairstyle should come into the shop...besides most of the event stuff beeing for free earlier are in shop what 1 year later ?
