I know sarcasm is hard to read on the net..but no one should ever be this lazy in an MMO >.>

this is actualy what i think will happen too
they will run it during the CLOSED BETA, and when the open beta is nearing thats when they will want to do the data transfer and shut the 1.0 servers down.
remember, its not just a beta, its a closed and open beta, and im betting most people on these forums have no idea what the difference is
Closed Beta: Its when a MMO does most of its Bug testing, so they don't really need many people, just enough to gather up all possible bugs, and Squash most of them.
Open Beta: Its where they do most of the Stress testing out for their server the most, all the while of still collecting Bug reports that may have not been seen during the closed beta testing. (usually at this phase they are minor bugs)
My question is... Who can play closed beta? Legacy members, random members, active players??
If the 1.0 servers will be closed in september-october I hope that all people that is now playing and paying (like me) can play in closed beta.
It would be a little unfair that a player who only play and pay the last month can play closed beta and see how is the new version, and other player that is still first beta in 2010, play and pay (and is a legacy member) can´t play until January.
The problem with some of these people is, once you do that, all you see is a boatload of "This message is hidden because xxx is on your ignore list"
I don't mind autowalk actually. Especially for extreme distances. But I do agree it looks a bit ugly and it's out of the question for something like Final Fantasy. Works great in stuff like EVE though.
To be honest I think they should get as much people as possible into the betas. Also I think it would be best to get the opinions of new players as well to sample, not just old or current players who already may have grown bias towards the franchise who probably will say everything is great... when truly it isn't. So we need a right mix of current players and potential/prospective players to get their hands on the betas.
Seems as long as there's beta, there's no 1.xx

GE: Speaking of Beta, will there be downtime between current game and 2.0?
Yoshida: What’s going to happen is that after the current version is finished and storyline over, the servers will go down and the 2.0 beta will start up. We want to make sure we don’t make the same mistake as before, and want to be sure we have enough time not only for the beta test but also to get feedback from the players and leave enough time to implement that feedback. Also, keep in mind that transferring the characters to the new servers and systems could take up to a month. So that process will be running while the beta test is in place. There can’t be a launch immediately after the current servers are shut down.
GE: So the beta test and current game will not be operating simultaneously?
Yoshida: No. Because we need the time to convert the data from the current version to the new version, we can’t have people keep playing because they will keep updating their data. That doesn’t mean we are not going to work hard to make sure the servers aren’t down for a long time. We know that the community is there and want to maintain that community.
GE: How much downtime do you expect between the end of the beta test and the launch 2.0?
Yoshida: It won’t be anything like the next day, but we hope to have it be as short as possible. We need enough time to make sure everything is right and start it smoothly.
It's odd wording, but if they're taking down the severs at the start of beta to transfer character information, logically they wouldn't let us play again until 2.0 was out.
Otherwise, they're going to have to transfer the character data all over again.
Rokien, will you marry me?
What is going on in here.
i just think its the content finder, the first screen shot of 2.0 on the .pdf's showed players like "firstname lastname@server"Quote:
Q: Can you tell us 1 new function which will be in Version 2.0?
A: There will be a system where players may cross servers to complete objectives. We will have a strong in-game guide, making sure players know where to go and what activities are there to do once they enter a new map.
"I expect the first Closed Beta for the Japan and International servers to be held end September or early October, entering Closed Beta 2 this winter and Open Beta in January next year."
Can we please get an answer from the community reps to clarify what exactly is going to happen in September. Is the current version of the game going to get shut down for good and are we going to be left to play the "beta" until the live release? Or are they bringing the current version down to transfer data and then bringing it back up and running the "beta" and the current version side by side? I find it hard to believe that we'll be left with the current version until January's 2.0 release so I'm curious if the /airquotes beta is going to be for current subscribers to play until they feel like they've worked out the kinks and have it ready for release.
Yes this is highly confusing to me also. You might have to make a new thread of this if you want to get the Rep's attention on it.
However, do note he may have been mentioning the PS3 version. He did say the PS3 version would have it's own beta and be released after the PC version.

Look at the road map. It shows closed beta testing for PS3 starting in November. The thing still confusing is he mentions a stage 2.
I would love it if something was clarified here.
Heck I'm excited they're actually sticking with the schedule so far.
Ok, so...for the people who are hating on the "cross-server content finder" I have a question. Have you ever played a game with one like WoW? Yeah random people do suck sometimes but there's a really easy way to fix this. Que up with people you know on your server. Tada! Your not stuck with random people anymore. But hey, if you want to do something relatively quick, it's perfect. Really, when I played that game I hated random people so I found as many people I could that I knew were good (usually from my guild or friends) and did dungeons like that. There are ways around the potential problems if you just think logically about it.
