"Taking a stand" quest

I have tried this for the last 5 days getting thumped not even a quarter of the way into the fight on any difficulty, some not even getting the boss to 90% health... he hits way too hard. Wuq either needs more health or reduce the bosses damage output somehow. A faster movement speed would help ALOT. She is slower than the WOL's walking speed. I am playing on controller on pc/steam deck and I have never had this much trouble with solo duties, even on very easy.

Thanks to this thread and others like it, 8.0 is going to consist entirely of cutscenes with zero combat. Thanks a lot.

Reading this thread make me doubt my sanity, like it's 4 buttons, the entire game is based on a 60/90/120/240 rotation system where you're encouraged to always use your skills and almost never save them except in high end content that has you moving or the fight being interrupted. You can go on twitch and see people literally beating this game with DDR pads, people that can only use their tongues with no limbs.

And somehow people in this thread are so incredibly bad that people with only their tongues can beat this but they can't.

If they actually Nerf this on very easy then I'm absolutely stumped. There is a minimum amount of effort required to play games, if they're not willing to read the tool tips and fail a few times, games are simply not for you.

New to the forums, but very familiar with raid content. I have fairly regularly used Healing Potions and even have a few Grade 8 Vitality Tinctures from previous expansion, just in case. Also HQ Hyper Potions are 25% (Max 11,000) HP every 1m7s (67s) which is a fairly sizable chunk if your healers are doing their best impression of a rock.

How are you guys serious, I literally just read what each of my skills did, and used them appropriately as well as stayed out of the orange floor stuff. You've presumably been playing this game for years, it really is not hard - get better.

Now if you're literally semi disabled I can see where you're coming from, completely valid to have difficulty with it, but if you're an able bodied person, come on now. Practice!!!!!!!

The hardest part of the duty for me was organizing the hotbar so that the buttons were in a more sensible place for me - the pet hotbar system is very confusing on 4x3 grids!

That being said, this game could do with an option that makes your hp unable to go below 1 in these kinds of things, it'd solve the issue while still giving the narrative effect of it being a "tough fight"

I'm legitimately surprised by this sentiment. Like, I fully understand that disabilities might make it very hard to do this since there's nobody that can pick up the slack that's natural for someone dealing with something like that, but for an average player it should be pretty easy. Personally I basically had like, a 90% reduced health challenge mode by getting hit by the first 3 mechs back-to-back and still pretty easily one-shot it by using my healing on CD and learning the mechs to hit the LB as often as I could.

I feel like you're just sparing yourself the effort because the quests are a pain in the ass.
It's a game, and it puts obstacles in your way.
Don't you understand that?

It's easy for you to argue that it should be easy.
But this story is also a phase that gives you difficulties.
The quest is for you to relive the difficulties she had to go through.
After you have had an easy time of it, the story will be a little less interesting than it was intended to be.

If you are paralysed by a stroke or some other disability that prevents you from playing the game, the requirements should be different.
"I'm having a hard time playing it properly, so just give me a mode where I can just enjoy the story."
That should be fine.

I understand that each player's situation is different, but why not put some thought and effort into making the journey better for each of you?

I printed this comment and pinned it to my wall. Nearly spit my drink out. I completed it on Normal first try. EZ fight. Folks here just need to get better at the game and stop standing in bad.

Yep - confirmed. I'm doing this on "very easy" and I looked up a tutorial to make sure I'm doing everything I should be doing and I'm still not able to get passed this absolutely soul sucking quest. I tried it so many times that I had to shut off the game and am wondering when I'll return to it since I can't continue my MSQ without completing it.

Such a shame. Not sure if/when I'll finish the expansion at this point since it seems my skill level isn't good enough to get passed a "very easy" main story quest.

Wow. Just went and read all the condescending comments from everyone who didn't have an issue with this one. That made me feel *fantastic*. Hope you're all feeling boosted after belittling everyone who wasn't able to nail it on their first go and turned to the forums for help.

As someone who openly admits that my skill level in this game is unfortunately low, you have my sympathies!

As I noted back on page three, it took me four attempts to pass this quest - two on Normal, one on Very Easy and then passed it on 'Easy'. And again, I do wonder whether the 'Very Easy' option is bugged, as I found the 'Easy' option less problematic than 'Very Easy' personally.
Though I'll add that it's not an experience I'd want to repeat - I've never been a fan of the 'play as another character' mechanic at all. I know why they do it but that doesn't make I have to like it.

That aside, I do hope you can find it in yourself to persist, as it'd be shame to miss out on the remainder of the MSQ. Keep us posted, please? And good luck!

I have absolutely no problem with the idea of them adding a "super easy mode" (accessibility options are always a good thing!), but one thing I haven't really seen mentioned in this thread: the difficulty of this duty is part of the story.

We have already seen Bakool Ja Ja completely outmatch Wuk Lamat earlier in the MSQ, and all of the mechanics of this duty are designed to reflect that - he hits really hard, and you're constantly scrambling around on low health, only managing to hang on because of the strength of your resolve. It's the same idea as 'In From The Cold' in EW (though I'd say that duty was a million times harder than this one) - the devs aren't making these fights hard to be sadistic, they're trying to use them to tell a story.

If people want to skip the fight or reduce the difficulty, fair enough, but I hope the normal mode doesn't get nerfed too hard - I really feel like it would rob it of all narrative impact.

I agree that it's more fun to play as your own character than some random NPC, I wouldn't say they're too hard. I'd even go as far as to say they're absolutely trivial. They can be annoying since the rotation is extremely simple, the fights have some weird gimmick (Looking at you, ShB-Thankred and Poochie) and playing as someone else means I can't look at how cute my character is.

I liked the one in EW in Garlemald where you play as a normal soldier for a bit. Really showed the difference in power between average people and the WoL. They got the balance on that right imho, you had to play tactically but if you fought something your attacks still felt impactful (unlike the DT one where Poochies LB does like 1% damage). It also wasn't so long as to overstay it's welcome.

Maybe this game isn't for you if you're not able to win a fight that is scripted to be winnable if you know the bare minimum about the mechanics of this game (pressing buttons and avoiding AoE)? I mean, after ARR, HW, SB, ShB and EW, we're supposed to know how to play? It's not like Wuk Lamat is hard to play lmao

Pretty harsh. Maybe this game isn't for you if you're at the point that you're trying to discourage other people from playing on the forums. Seems you might need to make an actual friend and experience some personal growth in the real world. Best of luck to you.

Normal mode is fine. I don't think it will be adjusted.

The issue seems to be Very Easy isn't functioning as Very Easy. More than one player has come forward to say they were able to beat it on Easy where they couldn't beat it on Very Easy.

So for now I would suggest that anyone struggling with the duty give Easy a try instead of struggling with Very Easy. The patch next week should contain a number of hotfixes and hopefully this duty will be included.

Anyone able to get past the level 92 solo duty knows how to play the game. There is obviously something wrong with the settings for this level 94 duty on Very Easy when players are coming forward to say they could clear on Easy after repeatedly failing on Very Easy.

Honestly, considering many of you all probably have a lot of experience with the Very Easy mode (which is perfectly valid), we had quite many solo duties this expansion and yet it's specifically this one that keeps being mentioned, it might very well be a bug/oversight in fine tuning. Especially when people struggling with "Very Easy" manage the fight on "Easy", which is supposed to be harder.

Maybe consider opening a bug report in the respective forum area or via in game support desk, if you haven't done so already. It's always a bit of a question how much they pay attention to detail in sub forums like this (let alone in "General Discussion"), but they are reading and sorting the ones in the bug area. Same goes for others who had a similar experience or have been stuck and are going to try it on "Easy" soon. (If you have yet to finish this mission - provided you have the option - you can even record it and add this to the report.)

Thanks, Carin-Eri! I just finished the instance. I found it easier to beat on "Easy" instead of "Very Easy". Also I wasn't doing one of the mechanics right even when I really thought I was. The part where he brings down the three damage dealies that you have to stand in? I was standing as far away from as possible to try to avoid getting hit. If you do that part of the fight correctly, it lines you up perfectly for doing the next mechanic! Silly me. Thanks for relating though - I thought I was just that horrible at the game! Glad to know I wasn't alone.

8.0 is just going to be a visual novel at this point....

I also fear it requires forgetting significant portions of the game prior to this. I think Zenos was a much more demanding solo duty, for one. I know there were some particularly challenging solo duties in certain job questlines (looking at you, that one RDM finale). Playing Zero fighting the hordes of voidsent in EW is about the same difficulty. Thancred's stealth mission, you have to carefully pick your fights and easily can end up having to reset a few times.

I remember not realizing one move in "Taking a stand" being somewhat confusing until I realized it was a donut marker, and toward the end, they start pressing you to finish by ramping up the DPS from Bakool Ja Ja and his lackeys, but its super scripted, and you get LB faster from your AoE attacks on the packs. I imagine dropping the difficulty will make it trivial.

I am struggling to understand how one got through the entire MSQ of the past 4 expansions, only to get stuck here.

yup same difference ... no difference on difficulty modes...

90k year to minimum +/- wages ... game keeps my frustrations in check mostly...
laptop is least dawntrail's minimum specs ++ 32 gigs of ram but 4-5 years old...

very easy hard it doesn't matter you cant get enough hp's back fast enough to pass..
worse i don't tank enough for this fight to seam intuitive i get 2-3 limits off last 3rd limit died as it prepared to fire...

4. When all the orbs start to light up, and you see a green one, run toward it, this little area will always be a safe Zone.
5, Dodge all the fire attacks by running around and using your AOE.
6. When he brings up the clones, he is the one with raised hands and on fire. Get behind him and keep spamming Tail of the Bra'ax.
7. Use your limit break EVERY time it comes up and do it IMMEDIATELY. Do this and spam spam spam Tail and use Laweteena pulse, your green button, EVERY time it's available. This is very important!
8. When the pillars come up out of the ground. Run to the one he created first, pay attention to the order they pop up, and run to the next two to decrease the damage taken.
9. When his thugs come in switch to the Turali Judgment instead of Tail. Just spam this over and over and over again. Make sure to use the heal button whenever it comes up.
10. After this is over, there is a timed event, and you will need to spam quickly the O button when it comes up.

This is not going to help, because for one thing, "スタンドを取る" is almost certainly not the Japanese name of the quest.

I finally got it done today. Studying all the hints helped tremendously. And rearranging the action bar buttons to a more logical layout for my setup.

An alternative to the virtual mouse mode is using the controller touchpad as a mouse trackpad. You can do that without activating a specific mode.

All you gotta do is stay close to Bakool Ja Ja (unless it's not safe) and spam your combo. Hit the AOE combo if his lackeys join the fight. GGEZ.

As a guy who always plays a mage in all RPGs, I won't lie, I found it very difficult to pass this boss. I must have died over 15 times, but I managed to master it and became a good melee player (for a while at least). I didn't enjoy the process at all! But I enjoyed the new challenge of overcoming a difficult boss with a melee player. (I don't want to experience it again; I love my healer!) Good luck to all my fellow mage players, you got this! It won't be easy though :(

I tried this quest umpteen times. Your character's heals are too low, the boss hits too hard. It drags out too long. It is not the least bit enjoyable for me. Very Easy mode does not function as such. Looks like this MSQ will not be finished until this is fixed. That's okay. I don't need everything and am content with what I get done. If they don't want to change it, so be it. I have moved on. Why frustrate myself? ;)

Many other people who were in your situation have reported they managed to clear it on "Easy" after struggling a lot with "Very Easy". I would recommend you to do the same. There has also been great advice for how to solve the mechanics in here. :)

Btw, has any of the people who cleared it on "Easy" but didn't manage it on "Very Easy" written a bug report by now? (I couldn't find one in the forum, but given there is a report option in game, this doesn't have to mean anything. Also, I'm bad at skim reading at times.) I know it's a hassle and needlessly complicated, but reports made from a third party are never taken seriously, so this is a thing only you personally can do. And this really sounds like the "Very Easy" mode is bugged.

The average skill level of the healers available has dropped, so it is doing something.

As somebody that was born a quadraplegic with cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair can I just say that I think the most egregious part of this whole quest is actually the name of the quest itself??

Jokes aside - My heart does go out to people suffering from a genuine health issue that are struggling with this such as the stroke survivor from the start of the thread, but it really does grind my gears to see people with no disabilities or physical impairments use us disabled people as scapegoats because they're incapable of beating an instanced quest on very easy.

I did it on my first try and I have maybe a whole three fingers that I can actually move to a limited degree, so please don't invoke people like me just because you're incapable of clearing it, it's extremely patronizing. I for one am BEGGING them to make more duties like 'In from the cold' and I don't want Square thinking that they need to dumb down the game even more because of people like me ty.

This is an actual shame because it's a pretty important part of the story but for anyone having trouble with it, it absolutely ruins it.
