I'll answer for SE:
If you're casual, do that.
If you're hardcore go after Relic.
Simple as that. The only problem would be if SE catered more to the casual base, which then you should be complaining about balance.

just no it would be nice if they tuned down the luck factor
what i mean is, we're all still in the transitional introduction phase of development and implementation of content. we have yet to see the end of the game type gear/weapons/etc. do we even know if level 50 will be the immediate cap when 2.0 becomes a real thing? for now, i guess you're right, what we have at the top is "endgame" but i consider it all temporary shills for what's in store for us later.
Funny, I'm looked up pgl/mnk weapons on mooglebox, and there's 18 at lvl 50; 15 if you don't count unfinished sphairai/sphairai (as they're mnk only) and avengers (as they're pgl only).
15 weapons at lvl 50 for pgl/mnk.
Do we really need more weapons?
I'm complaining that they're focusing too much on weapons and not enough on the other slots. Wouldn't you rather have Ifrit drop some body armor or an att+ belt, or Skirmish drop items like an Uldahn teleport ring with 30 charges?
Take a look at this page and tell me that at least three lvl 50 weapons don't have stats that are near-identical:

It would have been too much like FFXI if the primals dropped multiple gear, and we know how much people hate for any FFXI concepts to creep up into XIV.
SE wanted to keep the suicide rate low :D
I get what you mean, but I'm sure you see the process unfolding, elemental differences, significant stat differences (attack speed, etc.). options like that let us evaluate our setup for best results in a range of encounters. along with these changes, we have the obvious improvements to gear at each step as well, there's no way to know what's in store for future patches unless you're on board with the SE dev team. personally i prefer to accept the options given, and be as optimistic as I can about delivery of future changes like you're expecting (armor, consumables, etc.) I see the fact that there's no 1 stop for everything you need as a good thing :)
If Skirmish Weapons drop like candy, they are better alternatives for people who can't do Primals or farm up the seals for promotions etc.
The stats are soso, but they are sidegrades for the extra casual players.
you can double meld them holy shiet whitemage can tank even better now ;o Spell interuptio +50!!
