Immediate thoughts and first impressions with the changes (looking at tanks and healers):
Warrior is still broken in the healing department. Now they got more traits to enhance their healing potential with the Vengeance upgrade to Damnation and Rampart applying increasing healing. Looking into the other tanks makes me happy with what they got but also worried that the damage really isn't going to be enough to make healers any fun to play because damage is just too low and all the changes is effectively still tantamount to nothing because we're still spamming Glare/Broil so often for the past 7 years that it still feels lacking.
The changes to healer doesn't feel substantially enough to remove my doubts about the gameplay. Even Sage, with good changes that players asked for (like AoE kardia and new DoT + damage skill), in hindsight still feels lacking and disappointing now I'm looking through the various job changes because the changes are only present at higher levels, so every level below that is still just bad to play as the issues in Shadowbringers and Endwalker stay on healers. The adjustment isn't enough. I haven't seen changes to Toxikon gauge in generation and usage on SGE, so Toxikon gauge is still very underutilized to be even called a gauge. I haven't seen noticeably enough to make me want to play a healer in the long term. No changes to the damage profile I think will be significant enough to change that feeling unless it's frequently high (the first dungeon doesn't show any indication that is the case).
SGE's healing capstone isn't all that great, Philosophia doesn't feel anywhere impactful with a 180s cooldown for AoE Kardia, and only unlocked at lv 100... is truthfully, disappointing to see as it won't get much impact with all the other strong healing tools in party play. For a 180s skill, you're taking huge tradeoffs. Kardia system still doesn't get enough interaction to be substantially different. The changes clue me in that the damage profile in dungeons will probably be just as disappointing, or otherwise sage will be woefully undertuned. All in all, not a great sign for sage.
WHM getting aetherial shift is a good addition at level 40. Movement issues are more or less fixed. Plus Glare IV also helps with movement. Divine Caress acting as an AoE shield with regen capabilities on falloff is a very nice addition to the toolkit as a healing skill to round off their deficiencies.
I'll try out the healers, but I think I'll be playing WHM because it's more cohesively designed or dropping healers altogether for DPS jobs.
Personally I'm just gonna say, this are not expansion worthy changes. 8.0 can't come soon enough
When you find out they made Umbral Ice regen clunky(pre-76 will suck big time), removed Sharpcast, removed Thunder Procs, removed double transpose/Paradox, adopt a 2.0 Fire4/Flare Star rotation it gets real sad real quick for Intermediate and Advanced players. For Casuals the changes are probably good for low stress environment.
But hey at least you can move your Circle now!!
They removed everything nonstandard. Any nuance you used to have will be eliminated. I see mass migration to Pictomancer overall due to the Caster changes. Ironically SMN's only crime is being boring. RDM is more of the same and only desirable for their Verraise, otherwise outclassed by the other 3.
Agreed, but also massive copium that they’re actually going to make meaningful changes to any of the jobs in 8.0.
Most jobs got 1-2 oGCDs for 7.0 as far as gameplay changes and that’s it. And oGCDs that just get shoved into the 2m burst window no less.
If that’s all they can muster, I have zero confidence that they will suddenly shake things up in 8.0.
I've gotten that vibe from him a few times seeing him in the hype content of DT and especially the live letters of EW. He honestly comes off as very annoyed by this game more than anything else. He also seems to default to emotional manipulation with fake crying on more than one occasion.
I know a lot of people in this game worship the ground beneath his feet but I never got the feeling he was genuine from what I watched.
People have yoshi p in a pedestal he doesn't belong to. He's a businessman and will say/do whatever gives money, if you have spent time watching interviews and LL its pretty clear he doesn't know what is going on the game a lot of times
Personally I'd rather take that copium, if that happens good, if not I'll probably cancel my sub and leave
Consider, unlike his game-dev turned board of director peers which joined SQ as regular game developers before SQEX merger happen, Yoshida-san so far is the only one that joined SQEX as regular game developer and also rised to the be part of board of directors.
You don't see that happen to Kojima-san(Hideo Kojima) from Konami, that should tell you something about Yoshida-san's character.
I have hope. I think what may have happened was, they realized they are going to need more time than 2 years to rework all the jobs. So they may have been working on the changes along side work on 7.0
I also feel, now that we are at 100 levels we may be getting a level squish with 8.0 that could be another reason why job reworks are coming at 8.0 Doesn't make sense to do job reworks then level squish, better to do a rework for 50 levels than 110 levels. Level squish would also be a lot easier for newer players to jump in and get caught up.
Though high chance none of this happens and 8.0 will be the same boring combat and Yoshi will say during the lead up to 8.0, "Just wait to 9.0 big changes are coming." Then 9.0 comes, wash repeat.
Nin changes look good , basically a flashier and more beefed up 2 min burst window
Monk - Looks good and we get Hadoukens :P
Drg - never really got into it but might give it a shot since it seems less cluttered
Ast - Honestly anything is better then EW
Drk - Kinda indifferent , Living Shadow on CD and with most jobs gap closers not being tied to damage is nice
Dnc and Rdm is more of the same but that's ok
Not really gonna look into Viper until i level it up but it looks fun
Blm is always fun during the leveling process so I can't wait to see how it'll play now
Not really interested for the other jobs but when I level them up hopefully some of the changes sparks my interest in them again
I am thrilled DNC is pretty much the same. I don't know why folks want their jobs completely reworked. I love my super simple rotation and that I don't have to think about it. I shall main DNC until the game goes offline one day.
I doubt that. if this expansion fail, it's gonna hit the game very hard. EW was was already a relative failure in term of content of the patches cycle. Recurring players are already not happy, but still there either because they're hoping SE will get their shit together or because of all the memories of the game. If we get another failure, I'm not sure people will continue to stick.
Kaeshi: Higanbana quietly joins Undraw in the abyss
I'm gonna be 40 by the time they make the game fun lmfaooooooooo
I haven't had a lot of time to look at every jobs changes in great detail. But in short I think:
BLM: Looks interesting, non standard looks mostly dead but I never was that bothered for it. More blasting in fire phase sounds fun on paper, we'll see how it is in the encounters. I play crit blm so if it plays more comfy I will be happy. Will definitely be doing the tier on BLM on one of my alts. Even if it ends up being more troublesome to get uptime on I will still enjoy the job.
AST: The card effects could definitely be more interesting and I would like to see the card manipulation return. That said I do prefer this over EW ast for sure and am glad to play my old main again. Shall be asking for some more interesting effects to the cards but not really holding my breathe on that one.
MNK: Changes look nice, I was getting bored with buff/debuff upkeep after so many years so I enjoy the change. Another one I will be doing the tier on with an alt most likely.
PICTO: Looks really fun and I am keen to give it a go. A lot of dooming BLM mains seem to plan on jumping ship too it as well, hopefully they are happy with it too.
VIPER: Also looks like good fun, excited to try it!
RPR: One of my favourite melee and it looks like I will continue to love it, glad of it.
PLD: It's much the same but I enjoy how it is now.
DRK: Sad to see the job not being made more unique, I will keep this job benched another couple years.
GNB: Still a bit clunky on the 1 min but overall an improvement and still one of my fave tanks.
The rest I need to look at more, things like phys ranged I probably won't peek too much at till DT release.
Right? People are talking as if Sage has parted the red sea and is leading them to salvation with literally just a second DOT that has the same duration as the current one and an extra attack cooldown every minute. Meanwhile, Toxikon has not only remained the same, but also has been neglected in yet another egregious potency buff for Dosis as was Pneuma. Fun fact, Dosis III is now almost as powerful as Fell Cleave after factoring in Maim and Mend I and II.
