Uh, what? Look, I oppose OP as much as you do and I’m a stalwart member of the FFXIV movement. But don’t we agree that Yoshi-P truly cares about us? He cried that one time! He respects our time and wants us to be with family, which is why he cut content in Endwalker. Doesn’t treating SE like a soulless corporation go against our entire narrative?

I do get where you are coming from. I've been frustrated of several things myself... but sadly that is how capitalism works... money always gets priority... I think its a terrible idea to put the customer 2nd though... I think they should be on equal par as making money which according to me is the most successful mix possible.
It's not just SE that does this though, most game companies aim for the money first. If it were up to me the characters would at least have voices... sad that you get to choose your characters voice but never hear more then grunting or moaning xD And the fact that most quests are voiceless doesn't make it any more immersive either.
I'm a realist who's been subbed 8 years now. Why? I host a community so I just log in to have fun with people I care for.
I honestly don't get why some people appear to treat you hostile for sharing how you feel about the game... listening to you is the least we can do, its basic human decency.
You are just another player that is frustrated that a lot of things about the games remain untouched or unfinished (Se's focus in the wrong place).. logical response.
Still, things have always been like that.. its in human nature to think about themselves first before thinking about others.
But you can find fun in that too... afterall its an MMO game and as the name implies there's a lot of people you could meet. I recommend meeting up with people on discord in a voice channel, makes it more enjoyable. THAT or just chat with them in game with good music running in the background (I got sick of the in game music long ago xD).
Ofcourse no one is asking you to sub if you don't feel like it but there's factors people never tap into... the community spirit of an MMO game is a lot better then the actual game enjoyment... it surpasses all expectations. Heck to me this game is like chatgpt or second life :p
Maybe you simply need to join an FC that can make you laugh and enjoy yourself.
I usually have netflix open or discord and just post memes or chill watching series or a movie while talking to people in between, decorating my house, doing some recruitment... small things... even if only to max out everything there is in the game as some sort of reputation gathering..
If you tried all that however then its pointless to keep forcing yourself to like it... you may simply be burned out from the game so in this situation its best to forget about the game for now.. play what you want to play and maybe we'll see you back here in the future if they add something new that can get you interested again.
Whatever you decide to do, it's your choice and a respected one.
Keep into consideration thought that not everyone "cares" about the frustrations people like you and me might have.. They just want to have fun and while they know the game isn't perfect, they don't need it to be. Sometimes its "good enough" for people.
The only take I disagree here is that you somehow believe that Dawntrail is lessening content when in fact theyre adding back missed features such as exploratory zones and restoration. This is on top of the new features we got in EW.
i wish i could like this reply 100 times to show how good it is, thankou so much for ur advise. i will defo look for more social aspects with ffxiv. im happy i found somebody with a legitimatley good answer to my original question of "how do ppl keep playing"
to preface, nothing in my op is about dt, i want to be excited and surprised by it, hence why i still defend it
I think the frustration partly based on SE making the gameplay easier for new players but sadly this makes the game too easy for some... sure you could do savage or ultimate but the issue is that those things just react on "response-time & muscle memory" where a dps rotation is more like learning how to solve a puzzle based on each situation separately... dps rotations tickle the brain a bit more when it comes down to challenges for people who have an analystic memory rather then a photographic one.
Am I fan of how the Store is used? No, I would much rather such items be added as rewards in-game, and I particularly dislike how past event items are put up on there instead of being earned when the events roll around again. However I would not call it predatory, especially when compared to other online stores of its type. And whilst it can use FOMO its for non-essentials like emotes and cosmetics. They are not game breaking or P2W, no matter how cool they are.
Whilst I have great respect for Yoshi, he and SE are like any other game company, they want money first and foremost, and things like the Store is simply one way they can mine people for it. At the very least I feel Yoshi has passion for the game and its creative vision, unlike the recent SE’s CEOs who seem to still think the Blockchain/NFTs are the way forward…
As for content, I would like more like every one of us and wish the patch cycles went back to how they where or sooner, but I have been enjoying these patches and content still, such as the variant dungeons, Island Sanctuary and the 6.x story. Perhaps I am just getting older, but I feel people get stung more by burnout more now then they ever did in past MMO games. Not just with FFXIV, but I see it in almost every ongoing game I play too. There is this strange notion that we must always be playing these one games, and taking any sort of break is a failure. Perhaps we just consume things quicker now… anyway, a new field zone would have nice, but I can kinda see why they skipped it? Like Yoshi said in the presentation, people once complained about having to do things like Eureka ect. I would have preferred a different way for Endwalker to deal with Relics (Such as getting us to farm older/targeted content at least) but its nice that they seem to have listened and will be bringing it back for DT. Also I am very much looking forward to the Cosmic Exploration.
In the end, you can/should have criticisms of how a game is going, but can also still enjoy it. Its not always black (mage) or white (mage) issue.
Well capitalism is just communism lite, and whatever you're calling capitalism died well before the 70s. More like after WW2, or even when federal reserve was created, or when America became a copyrighted registered corporation and the country ended from bankruptcy in late 1800s
Very simple - by not agreeing about any of your complaints.
I don't think the game has been getting worse, or the quality of content lowered. There are many months left before next expansion - no reason to expect lots of information this early.
As for the cash shop, I don't use it, I don't think about it, it is completely irrelevant for my gameplay or my opinion about the game.
It's not really burnout though, it's boredom. Burnout would be when you played so much XIV every day that you, well, get burned out.
Finishing all the content that's supposed to last for 4.5 months in a week, or let's be very generous and say 2 weeks, with just casual playtime and then asking yourself what you're paying a monthly sub for is not burnout.
I play the game, find ways to have fun, don't buy something if I don't want it. If I get annoyed or burned out.. I go do something else..
You guys think about this way too much. It's a little weird. Don't want it don't buy it.. if someone else does why do you care?
They literally never show the Job action trailer until immediately before the expansion, because they are still working on job balance right up to the release. They always do 3 trailers when there are fanfests, it's the entire point of attending fanfest. None of this is new.
They always release new meister quality figures with complementary emotes, no one is buying these just for an in game pose.
Behave yourself.
no they dont, the shb job action trailer was shown at fanfest and that was 6 months pre expansion. so dont talk rubbish
they 100% do, theres literally a forum post up from sm1 who bought it JUST for thatQuote:
They always release new meister quality figures with complementary emotes, no one is buying these just for an in game pose.
acting like a condescending dad doesnt strenghten ur arguement in ANY wayQuote:
Behave yourself.
I agree to an extent, but I think it extends to ALL of gaming as a whole. Games are more predatory and greedy. They take and take and take. I agree that in a monthly subscription game ALL content should be in the game free of charge.
Companies take, and like all the comments say here people give in and say "well they are a company!" Then companies will take a little more and the cycle repeats. Everything costs an arm and a leg now, with in game this and gamepass here and 9.99 a day for this and a battle pass within the battle pass.
With that said, I don't think Square is one of the crazy ones just yet. I feel the quality of the game is still great and the developers have a passion for the game.
The SHB one was mid covid and everything about that FanFest was different.
You clearly weren't around for the 2014, 2016, or 2018 fanfests. Those were like this one. Split in 3 for the different regions and no Job trailers until the media tours/just before expansion launch.
March 23, 2019 - Final Fan Fest
May 24, 2019 - Shadowbringers Job Actions Trailer
July 2, 2019 - Shadowbringers Release Date
As you can see, it was released 2 months after the last Fan Fest. It was released 1 month before Shadowbringers released.
Endwalker's Job Action trailer released 1 month before Endwalker as well.
May 15, 2021 - Digital Fan Fest (due to covid)
Sep 18, 2021 - Endwalker Job Actions Trailer
December 7, 2021 - Endwalker Release Date
The Job Actions trailer for Dawntrail will also release 1 month before Dawntrail, as is standard.
I view the cash shop as entirely optional. So I don't really care what they put on it as long as what is there does not give a serious in game advantage.
As for dawntrail and the game in general. 1. I am still having fun on a daily basis and 2. I still have a HUGE list of things I want to do in the game. It is one of the advantages of my rather slow paced, squirreling off in different directions, I am in no rush sort of play style.
Having a job/going to school/only having 2 hrs a night or weekends to play definitely helps you pace. You don't "have" to clear/grind everything in the first week.
I've stated this in another thread, but personally I see nothing bad in Mog Station existing (sub alone, which didn't raise since 2013, isn't enough to provide enough budget to keep the game aflow, let's be real here. Servers alone are helluva expensive to maintain, saying that as a developer in a huge company and our servers are hardly cheap for us, they're a very significant percentage of our expenses).
And in case with recent figurine my issue is less the price (nothing necessarily wrong with it by itself) and more so the fact that the quality of their mesiter figures dropped significantly (when it never was exactly premium to begin with) while the price is almost double from what it was. If the figure actually looked like it costs at least 2/3 the money they ask for it, I wouldn't have even batted an eye.
I also honestly think that they should add old emotes from figures to the shop - their meister line doesn't normally get any reprints, and it's several years since release. Why not get some additional money? People will buy it from Mog Station (I know I would at least get Odin and Shiva ones if they were available digitally).
Otherwise I honestly don't care much what they put on shop so long as it's just cosmetics and nothing what would otherwise put other players at a disadvantage (no, I do not count skip books and additional retainers as a "p2w" category items). Some of them I even buy if I like them enough, and then proceed to have fun in game, much as I did since 2014 when I started.
i will say from my thoughts, its less about how much it costs to run the game as if they sold 2.5million copies of endwalker collectors edition plus has had over 1million active subs for 2 years they easily paid for their next expansion and upkeep costs.
it's more on the lines of FF11 was considered one of their best money makers ever with ff14 now the next biggest and it has been left to die when it still has a active sub base and can be updated for more subs.
the cash shop supplements funds for other projects that SE wants to do and without it they will most assuredly let 14 die just like 11.
Story/Level skips are gross.
Forcing people to buy an entire fullpriced set instead of just a single piece of an outfit for a discounted price is gross.
Saying you can't do accountwide outfits because of "server limitations" is gross and obviously just them wanting to milk alt players some more. If you believe them, I have a bridge to sell you.
Triple dipping on the buytoplay + subscription + cash shop monetization is gross.
Releasing cash shop mounts, outfits, and emotes that really -really- fit the game's recent themes makes people think you designed it for the game and then repurposed it at the last minute to make more money (for example the eden dog mount that many people reasonably expected would be a BLU reward and turned out to be cash shop exclusive, or the cruise chaser mount, or the countless emotes released during periods of 4 month content droughts, or the matoya hat that could've been from a matoya quest but is instead locked behind an encyclopedia purchase).
Nerfing /doze to make it impossible for players to lie down anywhere unless they purchase an emote that lets them playdead was scummy. Citing issues about cybersex as the reason, while allowing lewd cafe venues to just exist in the partyfinder 24/7, is more evidence that the reason they give is just BS and all they want is your dosh.
400 dollar statue emotes in a b2p+subscription+cash shop game is foul.
The fact that fantasias cost anything at all when everyone already pays monthly, is disgusting. Even in Black Desert Online, a kMMO known for being greedy, if you pay monthly for the premium sub you can change your appearance whenever you want.
Putting old event items behind a paywall instead of just letting people redo old events when that event rolls around again, sucks for pretty much anyone new to the game.
There are things in this game I enjoy, but the way money is squeezed from players in various ways, often at the game's expense, is really really gross. We could have so many glams in the game, so many more emotes and hairstyles, and seasonal events could contain a backlog of the last 10 years worth of that event, but instead we're denied all of that so square can make a little extra money and use it to fund some trash new AAA experience that nobody buys because it's locked to a console nobody wants. I expect this sort of thing when I play a f2p game because the cash shop is their only monetization route. Not so much from a b2p+monthly sub game. But if you boycott, well, just look around. There're so many people who bought the 400 dollar figurine that they actually sold out within minutes. The MMO genre gets what it deserves. All of the things I described in my post are just "normal" in the genre now because people accepted them as they happened and shelled out money for them long before XIV was even a concept. It paved the way for this BS we're dealing with now. Like a frog that's boiled slowly, people respond to these threads with tepid replies like "that's just how it's always been" or "what do you expect? they have to make money" as if they aren't already making money from you ever month, etc. I just ignore it, enjoy the things I like, and log off. I don't believe the mmo genre will get any better. I think gaming as a whole is kind of doomed.
It never does cease to amaze me the number of people that just create thread upon thread upon thread with the exact same premise as one of the previous, albeit summarized and worded differently. - I mean your prerogative and all... But...
Really, this is probably part of the reason why you're find it so easily disgustful..?, and why some others aren't, even with longstanding issues they may have with the game. Some people will just go along their day, play this game or whatever other game, emote and poor quality statue aside.
Personally, for me, I've seen far, far more predatory things in gaming than spending a little on a statue which also offers an emote.
For some people their support doesn't hinge on the exact same metrics as yours does. Some people simply won't care about cash shop items - I don't, it's peoples' prerogative on how and what they spend their money on.
Just as there people that might find exploratory content to be the utter peak and best content in the game, 100000/10 rating, plz gib more expansion-after-expansion. But there are some people that simply find that the content loses it's flare after doing the same Skirmish (glorified FATE) after a dozen times, or the same critical engagement for the 8th time, for some people the content loses it's novelty pretty quickly, and only ever find it as a chore to engage further.
Like, people are going to be satisfied and dissatisfied with different things to you, it ain't really that unfathomable to understand.
Yeah the content delivered is really sparse and then there's barely a reason to go back and do it again since it's so repetitive that usually once or twice is enough. If you do savage, the replay factor might be a little better if you care, but even then that's just going back and doing it once a week. Frankly, I don't know how people "pace" this stuff out when they drip feed us like 5 hours worth of stuff and expect it to last for 4 months. Maybe they are logging in for 4 minutes a day, idk.
I actually did unsub and it feels great. You are correct that XIV appears to be on autopilot with a core staff that's desperate to do something but have their hands tied by particular players who want the game to be the way it is. It's pretty sad. I feel like these issues have likely been persisting for a while but in a funny way, the main MSQ was distracting people from the many outdated issues and creative issues happening.
CBU3 is working on a new unannounced game, DLC for XVI. and XIV all at once.
My biggest concern and main complain is that this game doesn't see even a fraction back of what it makes, and you can see it
This is SE money cow yet it feels like they just put a bare minimum for the content to exist
The fact "Hildibran eats half your budget", are you serious? I'm not blaming the animators who must LOVE making Hildi i'm just AMAZED ONLY HILDI is half their budget in terms of animations, because it just means 1, it's giga expensive to do, or 2, they have so little it's a laughable amount to work with, but is because it works with said minimun why would they invest more
I wish one day we get to see how little(or in the contrary who knows, much) SE actually invests into XIV
I wouldn't look at it as "pace" the content out. It's simply a matter of rationing the content because you know there isn't going to be anything new for awhile. Granted, people will eat up the MSQ, raids, and seasonal events to avoid spoilers, and to also be able to talk about it with other players while it still fresh. But things like side quests, deep dungeon, variant dungeons, EX/Unreal trials, Custom Deliveries, Tribal quests, Island Sanctuary, etc. can all be done at your leisure. If you burn through all of this and are then crying that there isn't enough content to go around, it's on you. Do other things with your time rather than consume FFXIV content like a locust.
There is also a ton to do in the game if you're up to it. PF is always looking for players to join them. There is big game fishing, which can consume all your time in the game if you let it. You can work on the sight seeing log, or take up a ARR relic quest for one or more jobs. To this day the ARR relics are the best looking weapons you can get with their own distinctive design and glow, and they've become relics in not only in the game, but in the literal definition of the term. Veteran players will know and appreciate what you put yourself through to get it even by today's requirements, and new players tend to awe over them and ask where you got it.
The game has been around a long time now. If you can't find something to do, it's not due to a lack of content. It's your lack of interest.
