I didn't know, I've avoided having a house because of how tied to a sub it is. I don't envy people that have invested so much into housing but want to stop playing for chunks of time, I couldn't do it. And no, you didn't come across snarky, that's on me, I was snarky in my original comment. I apologize.

I have really good houses, and I still log on at least a couple times a week, even though I've been subbed since August 2015. Maybe when the servers close?

I'm not in a financial position where 15 dollars a month bothers me. No other game has kept my interest half as long as FFXIV, and I don't see anything else pulling me away for very long, anytime soon.

The content gaps getting larger has certainly put a major damper on my enthusiasm right now. The 9 month gap between 6.5 and 7.0 is just nuts. I quit WoW in Pandaria when I heard of its 9 month gap.

I am still here because I recently had my baby and I use the game to chat with some friends when I get time to login. Had I not had my little boy, I would have probably moved on to something else. As it is now, what little content I have left will keep me busy for a few more months.

If I could ask anything of the devs, please focus more time and resources on the post expansion patches and less on the expansion in itself. I want to have more to enjoy in the long term rather than a single blast and it’s over for months and months and months …

If I can't bs my way into getting the game to function after 7.0 comes out, because I know I'm not actually going to get around to building a new computer that meets the increased specs despite having intended to for nearly two years.

If Dawntrail sucks. So far they have not shown anything in the trailers that would interest me.

If Se/Devs would make Mods and addons an official feature of XIV. I ran away from WOW after 10 years as Addons was becoming worse and worse and XIV had a zero third party TOS but seems they do not enforce it hard enough as people seem to promote Mare Lamentorum even on their AdvPlate.

If Dawntrail keeps be boring like those 2 Trailers they made and showed to us.
I don't think there will be more to the Story or even to the Expansion.
Guess SE wasted too much time with Final Fantasy 16, and now they try to sell us a boring Story and some Graphic changes as a big fat new thing.
How long will the “Hype” last for the new Graphics? 1–2 Days?
And what then? If the Story will be bad and the things we get with Dawntrail will be 0815 like in Endwalker.
Then there will be not much left.

I'm satisfied with the game. If my family quit playing and I ran out of stuff to do I'd let my subscription go, but I don't see that happening any time soon. I work pretty slowly at the things that interest me, enjoy playing alts, and also enjoy setting odd tasks for myself like checking off every crafting recipe for every job. So there's a lot to keep me occupied.

jokes on them tho i do what i can to scream to the heavens about how boring the game is now and i have a not-insubstantial following on various sites following me for my, ahem, "artwork" so 8-10k people get to hear me complain about it.

Given the primary selling point of the game is the story, its really only worth subbing for short periods of time and coming back when there is sufficiently more to play through for a month.
Unfortunately the devs have never managed to implement content that provides a compelling reason to sick around. That and the timeframe between patches has progressively gotten longer over the years.

The removal of auto-demo would free me. I hate this digital shackle and I hate that I'm so attached to it.

Could really go for a natural disaster right now honestly.

unfortunetly the only 1 who can free you is you. because its not a healthy connectoon its an addiction. or more. a fear of loosing something you own. they do it 100% intntionally to keep you subbed. thats why a house is nothing more than a ball and chain. save yourself and let it go. there will be other houses when the games better and even if there isnt.. do you even interact with it more than once a month? honeslty?

It was worth it back in Stormblood when I got it, but as the game has gone on and as EW had its lack of meaningful content it's true nature has shown itself. I do interact with my house quite frequently, it gives me fond memories of the good times when I thought this game could only get better, and when I had friends who still played. I've invested too much into this house and sunk cost fallacy is my greatest weakness.

u can unsub for 1 month > resub > unsub and cycle that around to keep ur house

Despite the flaws of the game I still think it's enjoyable to play. If DT's relic series turns out to be the same as EW's I'll probably take a break though.

Been thinking more, 3 months really was the sweet spot for new content. 4 months while in theory sounds ok, over the long run, it really hurts. If they went to 6 months, I’d probably only play the game on expansion releases and ignore the patches. As it is now, I may do that anyhow in DT if the patch content remains the same as EW.

But id sell it all for a Peregrine Helm without a second thought if i could.

Probably if enough friends stop logging in and they keep going down this current design path.
Right now, I have stuff to do. I'm on my last lynx to collect (Abyssal) and going through Aloalo Criterion with 3 others, which actually has been really fun. Aiming to go back and do the other two. Along with clearing HoH for mount and EO, with some FC members. And Frontlines.
But yea, that gap to 7.0...

I'm personally not bothered by content lulls. I have lots of alts, like achievement hunting, and collecting every unique weapon.

But my enthusiasm to play would vanish the moment they go the route of KMMO. Any RNG gear upgrading with a chance of breaking or lootboxes would make me consider leaving the game immediately. I was there until TERA's bitter end and I don't want to experience that again. I would rather just go play WoW and leave my last memories of FFXIV as positive.

Well, I do believe in voting with my wallet, and since my feedback was the game needs a graphics overhaul and it got one, I am stuck at least until early Dawntrail. The truth is that I am unhappy with the simplicity and homogeny of the game, jobs and customization. However, I can't very well give feedback, get a positive response and ditch.

So they deserve my money for now. This time around I let them know that graphics changes need to be ongoing, and the content was WAY. TOO. STALE. they have to switch it up. I really dislike how this is a solo game now unless you are doing Extreme + since content is so dumbed down there's nothing worthwhile saying while you are in duties.

I may be coming to the realization that the game is unsalvageable. In other words, fixing all the problems it has would take more than making a new FF MMO, sooo.... With that in mind I am kind of hoping FF17 is a new MMO and we can start with a clean sheet.

I used to be a fan of CBUIII and Yoshi P but they did something unforgiveable in my opinion. The team is brilliant at creating high quality products with not a lot of unplayable bugs or glitches (congestion issues not included in this). FFXVI was an example of a game with very few issues at launch. but here is the cardinal sin: THESE PEOPLE STOPPED BEING ORIGINAL AND STARTED CHASING THE MOST MAINSTREAM, UNCONTROVERSIAL, BORING AND BLAND GAME DESIGN EVER SO NO ONE WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING. This is in turn turned any of their games into plain tasting bread. And that hurts.

Most great games and things in general upset at least some people. Why? Because they push boundaries, upset the status quo, think outside the box, defy convention. FFXIV does not push boundaries, is the status quo, has a content box so boring and predictable people who don't play the game know what's going to be in it, and is as conventional as it gets.

As such, CBUIII's design language has become exactly this: "Milk Toast"

Doubling of the subscription fee would seriously make me consider.

That, or the people I play with quitting, which I don't think is realistically happening.

Tbh i am having a rough time with FFXIV...but isn't the game itself. This game was present in some awful days of my life, in some sense, my days are better now but still not completely fine. When i log in, i just do any event that is going on and log out. No one in my friendlist talk to me and i don't talk to anyone. I just got tired of being the one person approaching and asking how they are doing. I'm afraid that someday i will stop caring about such events and just unsub permanently. I love the journey and how FFXIV changed how i deal with games but i can't keep playing while the same game reminds me of how lonely and miserable i feel like.

Perma unsub? Probably when I get bored of the world. IT happened to me in WoW and GW2. There's a point where I'm ready to leave a world behind.

I'm about halfway there and it sucks tbh! I can't believe I'm in a position where I'm Mad at a game but it's the only way I can describe how I'm feeling. The combination of missteps in content [short lived, no relic grind, IS, no exploration zone] AND peering down the barrel of a 9 month content drought is really rough. I feel very spiky about the fact that I cannot even take a break for a month without losing the house I have poured years into. It's so incredibly scummy. If, however, the game gives me absolutely no reason to stick around after 7.0 then I think that'll be it for me. I think it's really sad that some of us are having to have a contingency plan and a getaway bag stashed away as a just in case.

I been subbed but because at this point I want to see what they will do for content with Viper, the new caster job, the new limited job, and Blue Mage. And by proxy of blue mage, I actually want to see the Whalaqee in Dawntrail and learn more about them more than the Dark Souls equivalent of deepest lore where I have to make guesswork out of item and spell descriptions, the type of weapon they use, etc. After all, their weapon, their beliefs, their magic, even accessories are attached to the job. As this whole thing about the new world has been teased quite a bit. Such as the new world outfit being from 3.4. Blue Mage as a job from 4.5. Among plenty of other examples that have extended easily 7+ years of this undercurrent of information.

I suppose what would make me unsub, is if dawntrail feels unfulfilling.

Okay so you want me to explain the difference between being subbed to ffxiv and logging on. 1. Any1 on ft/or free login campaign can log on. 2. They don't pay a sub.

I'm here too and I hate it. I loved this game. Ew fanfest and even patch/expansion day was this games most crowning moment. But as soon as it was over they gave up. I find it truly sad. I feel betrayed by the devs and I've started to realise I'm just an income source to them

It's hard making friends as a male aura. Ppl don't much talk to us for some stupid assumption. I've had ppl literally blacklist me on sight without knowing me because they had a "bad male aura experience" my advise is either hop servers or if u can't. Make an alt on another server and dc. Try to start again... or leave ur fc. Don't give up you're aura though. Not if you really like him

What would make me unsubscribe from FFXIV? I've been thinking about something for a while now, something that's been bugging me, and this is the only post I'm gonna make about it tonight/this morning, before I go to sleep.

At one of the FanFests--I think it was the EU FanFest--unless I'm going crazy, I vaguely remember Yoshi P telling the audience something about, "What we have in store for you in Dawntrail is going to be much better than everything you've seen so far". That wasn't his exact wording, but that is basically what I remember gleaning from his words on stage.

So, having said that, what would make me unsubscribe is if SE doesn't stand and deliver, having raised the already high expectations even higher. I don't know if he said that to generate hype for the brand new story they have in store, or if he truly believes Dawntrail is going to show us something better than everything we saw in the past ten or so years, but I'm expecting something to blast me into next week. Wow me like I've never been wowed before. Because Yoshi said, on stage, that that's what was going to happen.

Okay, joking (or half-joking, really) aside, I think what would really make me unsubscribe is if SE started doing take-backsies like Blizzard did with World of Warcraft's story. "Remember this person who died? Well here's an expansion where we go into an alternate timeline and now they're alive!" Or, if the game becomes bogged down with romance, in order to cater to the shipping community (I love you guys, really, but it's not my thing). If the main story starts getting devoted to a Scion or Scions telling their romantic story, I'm going to wash my hands of it and move on, probably. Not everyone likes romance, and I'm one of those people. Or, more still, if SE decides to make FFXIV free-to-play and earn their money through pay gates and proceed to make everything super redundant. I could probably go on a little further with this, but I'm sleepy, and it's bedtime. Be back later!

If anything, as daft as it may sound - lack of time due to work and family commitments, some of which are complicated.

I usually manage around hour in-game before work, about 40 minutes at lunchtime and I had been playing in the evening, from around 22:00/22:30 - 01:00 (depending on what content I played).

Unfortunately, fatigue has been winning lately and I rarely manage to stay awake long enough for an evening gaming session. Whether my stamina will improve remains to be seen but I'm not really of the mindset to force myself awake as that leaves me falling asleep at work the following day. And in terms of in-game performance, I end up being useless in any content I play due to being overtired, with the poor reaction speed that comes as a consequence, and actually fell asleep at my PC at least once.

However, whilst I don't think I'll unsub and do love the game, as it stands, the lack of time/energy I'm (un)able to devote to it means that I don't really feel as if I'm getting value for money from my sub and if anything, I guess I'd consider stopping my sub if the situation persists for too long.

For me to unsub... Well I've already been planning on it.
Jobs designs, dungeons, mechanics, character progression, and amount of content... they all feel really lackluster nowadays.

Im just doing MINE Coils, then Alexander Savage, and Alliance Raids up to SB. After that I'm done. I'll watch to see if the new classes and reworks are any good, but Im not hopeful. Honestly, if AST got its Cards back, I'd overlook a LOT of stuff and play a fair bit.

Short of it; Gonna unsub anyways, but if DT isn't a crazy overhaul of the game it'll be permanent.

What's currently keeping me going after 6+ is pvp and roleplaying. Not the story. Definitely not pve with its simplicity (See previous tank and healer threads.).

If I happen to stop getting engagements (which I'm pretty certain that it's not happening anytime soon) I still have pvp to fall back on.

If the entire of pvp turns into a solo queue only mode and if rank ends up becoming easier to climb than what it is now then I will most likely unsub for good. The thrill of fights is what has kept me logging in for 4 years straight. Having the changes made to where it's easier to not only go to objectives but to afk at them as well while being okay with accepting 2nd place is what's killing my mood to play. The devs can fix stats. They cannot fix player interaction.

It feels bad in the moment, but it saves you a lot of grief. You would never want to be friends with people who judge you on the race you play. They are just self-reporting that they are assholes at that point.

Agreed. Romance is fine if it's like a background thing like how it currently is in the game among npcs or with the eternal ceremony thing. Or if it needs to in the forefront, it should have a purpose, like in horror with Edda Pureheart in Palace of the Dead, or in a more comedic way with Hildibrand. Where its more than just the romance itself, and what that can do to actually make the story better. As if its romance simply for the sake of romance, it can feel as a shallow plot element.

I saw a sect of FFXIV fans on a site I can't remember--maybe it was the YouTube comment section, that place gets pretty wild--calling for Y'shtola X Runar. I don't personally care if that happens. If so, cool, great for them. Y'shtola is very eager to get back to the First, probably for this reason, and if that brings the whole story back to the First, then I'm all for it. But I'm hoping, for the love of Menphina, Y'shtola doesn't turn into a hopeless freaking romantic all expansion. She probably won't. I'm ranting about this SOLELY because what Yoshi said got under my skin. "It's going to be better."

[EDIT]: It wouldn't be the first time character roles/personalities got shifted. My friend and I were talking about Alphinaud's change the other night. We liked Alphinaud better before Alisaie showed up.

And to continue with that last little bit I left out of my previous post, and thus returning to the thread's topic, I think yet another thing that would make me unsubscribe from FFXIV is major life changes. I mean, REALLY HUGE life changes. I might unsubscribe for a day or a week. The thread only asked what would make me unsub, not for how long!

I already have. I came back briefly to join in a fight, but I've logged in about three times over the past three or four months.

This game just has nothing left anymore. It's a shadow of what it once was in every respect; gameplay, classes, community, content, writing, story. Despite the clear increase in profit and popularity from ShB's success and ridiculously expensive Mogstation items that you can still only use on a single character, basic issues like Viera/ Hrothgar headgear, the god-awful housing system and bots taking over the marketboard continue to go unaddressed and are now starting to take the piss. The final straw was their attempting to manipulate players into staying subbed during this appalling content drought for fear of losing their homes. It's just disgustingly greedy. Like, EA levels of greedy. They're packing more of a profit than they ever have and and are giving less than ever in return.

But why would they? Why bother continue catering to older fans whining about time and resource heavy issues like jobs and content when they can make piles of money appealing to the low-rent RP crowd who are happy with costumes, stripper poles and dance floors? Why put the effort into crafting decent writing when Estinien doing push-ups generates all the media engagement they could want? It's classic SE behaviour, now they no longer need to pander to fans to keep the subs up.

The game as it was has long gone. It's moved on, and so have I, and in the process remembered that games should be enjoyed, not tolerated.

What would it take to bring me back? Nothing the devs would be prepared to do lol, short of another Dalamud falling on Eorzea.

The only thing that would make me unsub is instance housing. And no, not in the bad way. Meaning I could always log in whenever and see my house is still there (kinda like how we already do in xi regardless of time passing) and really only come back when there's new content available for msq, hildi, raids/alliance, and relic weapons. I really only keep my sub and log in every sunday (going inside my house and sending retainers out). If they made instance available, id freely give up my house, get a portion of my gil back, buy an instanced house, and unsub till next series). Otherwise, I have no reason to log in atm.

Once they let Summoners summon Shiva but rather than doing the cool thing - using the WoL as a vessel so that we transform into Shiva and we can play as Shiva (with a new non-Ysayle, non-Ryne model) - they just let us summon her as a lame external entity just like every other summon and with Ysayle's model.

When that happens I know the devs have become out of touch and no longer care. Shiva has never been an autonomous summon in the story and so she shouldn't be for Summoners either.
