What would it take to make you unsub from xiv

I've seen latley a lot of people threatening to unsub from the game because

its gone downhill since 6.1

but so far I haven't seen any real action myself on this. Instead it seams players have chosen simply not to log on instead of unsubbing.

So tell me. Those upset with the game- what does it need to take for you to unsub

And to those satisfied with the game- what would it take for you aswell.

I'm not asking people to unsub, more I'm asking why you haven't and what you would need before u did

I've unsubbed and resubbed several times. If you mean permanently, I do plan to resub for one last time after Dawntrail release just to get my character a full set of ilvl 660 tomestone gear and check out the graphical update. After that, I will unsub permanently and only play during free login campaign.

However, I have a separate free trial account that I plan to play after I retire my main account so I probably will never not play FFXIV until the devs decide to pull the plug.

I think that some have but a lot of them tend to follow with a mention that they will return for 7.0 to do the MSQ and to see if it's any better (obviously if they are expecting anything other than the usual expansion release content then they'll be disappointed).

People routinely unsub and then return tbh. If you do roulettes, that's what all those returner flower icons you see are.

And to those satisfied with the game- what would it take for you aswell.

That's a tough one. Maybe news of an awful workplace culture like Blizzard had, microtransactions infiltrating the game or indiscriminate bans like what killed FF11 (ie. using AI), but we'd have to see.

Honestly I would argue that people already are taking action. Some of the most active users in here have been missing for a while now, and a good chunk is instead leaving large gaps inbetween subs, while before they would be subbed for pretty much every month without fail. It's certainly my case, at least.

By unsubbing you mean temporarily or permanently?

For temporarily, content that doesn't engage me. I'm not a fan of most of the content introduced in EW, and the lack of exploratory zones really hurts my enjoyment of the game.

For permanently, it would take the jobs not feeling fun to me anymore. I stick around because I still enjoy playing some of them (even if less than before), but I would be lying if I said I'm not worried for the direction the combat design is heading towards. If the devs keep with their job "streamlining" spree, I won't see myself staying for long.

DT being Shb 3.0

Imo Shb with all its good points also introduced some really problematic designs from content to jobs and EW, instead of changing or improving what was already there just doubled down on some of the worst aspects and added even more problematic designs making it feel stale, repetitive, unoriginal and with a complete lack of care.

Idk how life will be in 2024 and 2025 so I can't 100% guarantee that I'd be gone for good but if DT keeps the trend of EW and doubles down even harder on those problematic design choices (2m meta, extreme homogenization and oversimplification, lack of repeatable content, low msq quality...) my chances of leaving are quite high

Mhwilds in 2025 should give you something to do. People to play with ect. It's where I'll be going if dawntrail becomes dawnfail

I currently have a 3 month sub going, but I'm not playing a ton because I got temporarily pulled into some other games (Starfield, Dead Space, Diablo 4). I let my sub go quite frequently, I simply stop paying when I find that I'm not playing for 'x' amount of hours a month, say 15 hours for example. My general $/h value is $1/h and if I'm not getting that, I start thinking "is it worth it?".

As for what it would take for me to stop subbing completely? hmm..the game would have to change dramatically, as I'm casual enough to still have months if not years worth of content left to do, and they're still bringing out new content that I enjoy.

I'm satisfied and would unsub if I wasn't enjoying myself and no longer felt it was worth the monthly fee. Not the first MMO I would have left in my 20+ years playing them and I doubt it would be the last unless the entire genre just peters out. But I'm happy where I am now and have no reason to leave.

I take breaks, but I'm still invested enough to come back. Sustained boredom and dissatisfaction would make me quit, just like WoW.
