Sexuality is NOT the same thing as your gender identity. He can be genderqueer AND straight at the same time.

I'm a gay... and I always read him as a gay as well.

I've had friends like Moenbryda who would get WAY too flirty with me because they knew it would make me uncomfortable and awkward, which gave them a good, lighthearted laugh. I cared for these ladies very much. There is a real argument for him being gay despite all this (and despite this being a Titanmen thread) just based on my own lived experience.

They intentionally write a lot of characters like this, possibly so people can project their own thoughts onto them (see Gaia and Rhyne) and also because some countries would ban the game if it had openly gay characters, and being a global MMO, Square isn't going to give up money just to have an openly gay character.

I mean it could be but there are sensitive and Urianger-like men out there that are straight too.
I think a certain personality isn’t automatically attached to a sexuality and to me he did seem to care about her more than just friends, they were opposites in their behaviour which many people prefer when looking for a partner in order to keep things exciting and unexpected.

Obviously anyone can have any personality. I'm just going off my own life and seeing similarities between Uriangier and Moenbryda to myself and women I've known in my life who knew I am and still found it fun to try to be flirty with me anyway.

It's one of those story beats that really can be read either way.

But they added gay sex scene in FF16 in defiance of homophobic laws in Saudi Arabia. There's no excuse for them not to do the same in FF14 now.

I miss when it was only LGBT at my times. Sorry but I only recognize lesbians gays bi and trans, idk and tbh I dont really care about the QIA+ rest.

Urianger has often given me a genderqueer vibe. They have traditionally masculine features like their beard, but they also don traditionally feminine attire in Shadowbringers. But also, their awkwardness around Moenbryda and their archaic speech give off a lot of neurodiverse traits and reminds me of Autism. They seem to sometimes not know how to properly socially interact with people and at the same time they are a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. Also, no one batted an eye when Urianger was revealed to be wearing seriously genderqueer outfits. They fully embrace their gender ambiguity and everyone still loves them the same as it was before. It might not seem like a big deal but to see genderqueerness and Autism being portrayed without anyone making a fuzz about it is such a big step for people in the non-binary and Autism communities. Thank you, Square Enix.

I never thought about it that way, but it makes 200% sense that Urianger is genderqueer.
