6.4 patch speculation

I'm assuming the dungeon is some kind of way to the 13th and were going to fight golbez in the moon also they can put a 2nd or 3rd phase to implement zeromus or fuse with zero and the dragon and golbez in some way to make zeromus or zeromus himself will appear after kicking golbez ass if they somehow try to go with ff4 script but I'm certain he will show up in the next patches or even expansion or could do 2 world's in 7.0 where you go to myracydia or somewhere in eytheris and go back and forth in the 13th or void like they did with shb. But who knows knowing them they will do some kind of main entry merge to have some nostalgia.

Elemental swords that serve as seals to Zodiark.

Elemental thrones on the moon in the crater where Golbez resides.

Elemental lords of Earth, Wind, Water and Fire.

Golbez in FFIV uses Ice (chains), Lightning and well Fire too. But only Fire II, whereas for Lightning he uses Lightning III.


Maybe we'll find out that those things are connected in 6.4, but I doubt it!

Pretty clear also that the dark dragon behind Golbez in the art is a possessed/darkness corrupted Azdja, as mentioned by others in this thread. Still,poor Vrtra, having to put down his beloved sister given by now she'd be too far corrupted by the dark to save.

And Lahabrea's glyph above Golbez's head (fitting given the patch has the conclusion to Pandaemonium in it).

Can't wait for the trailer!

Few things

1. You can see the dragon (Azdaja more than likely) grasping for Golbez's sword. I don't have any conclusions to make other than maybe Azdaja is more pro-active in whatever is to come than what I previously thought.
2. The side of the Lahabrea's glyph mask shown definitely seems to imply more Hephaistos, as the original pandemonium art and the cutscene where Lahabrea splits himself in the Abyssos raids, they both showcase the right side of the split glyph mask, and the 6.4 art shows the left side. I guess we can put to rest any theory that Hephaistos sneakily changed places with Lahabrea or something of the sort.

Whilst I have no doubt it won't happen, it seems a pity that no-one has considering asking Hraesvelgr to assist them. In fact, do we know whether anyone has apprised him of the situation?

The world's least surprising reveal on that art, given who it's of, but there is something a little curious about it.

Don't we have one of Azdaja's eyes? So why do I see two of 'em in that picture?

Is it just me or does this seem to heavily imply that one of Lahabrea's halfs has something important to do with Golbez? I don't see why they would tease the raid again, considering 6.2's art was all dedicated to it...

It could just be a neat way of getting it in there, without actually being connected.

See for example, Lahabrea being pictured in the Eden-themed poster art for 5.4 without having any real reason to be there in the end besides "something about Ascians".

There's also the chance that the symbol is there pointing out exactly what is going on WITH Golbez, that he's missing a part of himself or his power...or is under somebody's control.

Though anybody else noticing that blue sword there? It looks like the ones seen in Zodiark's prison before he's freed.

Is that blue line supposed to be a leash or tether coming from Azdaja's mouth? It seems to go down over Golbez' shoulder and possibly be gripped by his left hand on his knee/in his lap, behind the letters.

And does the backing of that throne remind anyone else of a paladin's blade in their new lvl 90 attacks? The one where swords come out of the ground or w/e.

Now that you mention it...it does.

I wonder, is this hinting that Golbez is in fact half of Zero? Zero's original job as seen in the past was a PLD after all, plus we don't know what effects occurred when Zero was put under Zenos's control. And since time flows differently between shards...if Golbez IS Zero's other self, that would explain why she's missing emotions. Considering of course, that Voidsent tend to show a lot of emotions and instinct and Zero seems devoid of them.

I suppose so, but this seems pretty damn major in comparison to 5.4's. In fact up until you mentioned it I had never even noticed Lahabrea in that poster, I had to go back to check!

Also...

I just went back and checked 6.2's Abyssos cutscenes and it seems that Lahabrea "threw away" the right half of his sigil (technically his left side, but right side from our perspective), while remaining with the left one. The sigil seen on the image is "bad" side... I have a feeling Golbez might be very closely related to Lahabrea's other half, or he might even BE his other half. (Of course, this would imply that the Endwalker raid would have to be mandatory for the MSQ but I think they could very well do that)

Time travel is a free pass for continuity. Everything we have done or will do in Elpis/Pandæmonium has already objectively happened, whether we've experienced it yet or not.

That said, it's unlikely that they would tie it together quite so strongly, but they wouldn't have to make the side story mandatory to enable it if they did.

Something I don't know if we can expect, but I would like to see, is that if you've got the "Pandæmonium complete" tick on your account and you rewatch the 6.0 credits, the scene of the Elpis group and Scions crossing paths will also include the Pandæmonium characters.

I think some players are looking way too hard into the Lahabrea's glyph in the artwork, which I believe is just a teaser of Pandaemonium's conclusion.
That being said, someone on social media did point out that the Shadow Dragon does not match Azdaja's appearance in-game and I think it's possible that the Shadow Dragon is but a manifestation of the aether Golbez has absorbed from Azdaja. It could be something similar to P8N, E11N, and Ranjit dragons where they're part of the main entity instead of being a fully separate entity on their own.

Okay so first of all I just want to point out that this is the most reaching and most wild theory I've had and it's most likely 100% wrong BUT wouldn't it be cool if:

Athena plants some idea in Lahabrea's (Hephaistos') head. We don't know what this idea is but it's so terrible that he needs to get rid of it and so he decides to completely rip off half of his soul and lock it up forever. This we know from the Abyssos raid, now what if his idea was to create a world in which no one could die, even if they wanted to, they would just be reborn no matter what. I base this on the fact that on Hephaistos' savage raid, he experiments on the players and seems satisfied when he finds a way to make them revive. Hmm, dying and reviving, doesn't that sound very much like he Void? Maybe Hephaistos wanted the whole (still unsundered) world to be like the void shard, but couldn't accomplish his goal. Then, after the world was sundered, Hephaistos found a way to sabotage Emet-Selch, Elidibus and Lahabrea's (his other half's) plan of rejoining the 13th and intentionally caused it to turn into the void. Emet-Selch mentioned that they made a "mistake" out of "ignorance", but perhaps Hephaistos took back control of Lahabrea and knew exactly what he was doing.

As to how Golbez fits into this, I don't know, maybe he's Hephaistos from the future (our present), regretting his decision. Or maybe he could be someone else who became a victim of his decision.
Again, I know this is a wild theory and I'm reaching like crazy here but... What if....

I doubt that is Azdaja in the photo tbh. Azdaja was described to have birdlike features and more of a beaked snout, more feathered appearance similar to Hraesvelgr, and talin like claws. The dragon in this photo is anything but that, and also has both of its eyes. This dragon resembles more Tiamat. And as we learned from completing Eureka Orthos floor 30, Tiamat is one of the only living beings with mastery over the void/dark aether.

Tiamat is probably our way back to the 13th and will be assisting us in the trial against Golbez to rescue Azdaja is what my opinion is.

This is a baseline misread of the character.

She's not 'missing emotions', she's been stuck in a horrible hellhole for ten thousand years and is, to be light, poorly socialized. There has never been a moment where she appears to completely lack emotions, she just lacks expression of those emotions and a lack of experience with and understanding of things we generally associate with those emotions. She has a full range of emotions, she's just been deadened to a lot of the negative through overexposure and is unused to the positive due to underexposure, so she's coming from a fundamentally different road.

While she's not autistic (and I caution to never treat her as if she is), it's a similar situation you see with people on that spectrum; it's not that she doesn't have emotions, it's that she's not expressing it in the ways you're typically used to seeing.

And god damn I hope Golbez isn't some fragment of another person in any way. Let him be his own person! God knows that of any FF reference character, it's Golbez that deserves that respect.

I'd also caution: there is absolutely no way that Golbez is directly related to the Pandaemonium story, because that's just not how they write these things. Side stories fork off of the main story or just run completely in parallel, and only come back in if it's REALLY important (see: Crystal Tower, and to a lesser degree Alexander). This is mostly because it'd really suck for the people who aren't doing side content for whatever reason to just be left out of understanding the story.

So I got a better view of Golbez left hand and that blue thing above it might actually be a blue memoria crystal. Which is interesting to say the least.

Might have something to do with Golbez being part of Zero. Or perhaps that crystal is just saying he's a memoriate. Or maybe its what he did to the amaurotine we saw him confronting in that flashback, like we sealed Nabriales except more effective.

We will fight Golbez, he's gonna summon this shadow dragon, just as an enemy to beat without much story to it other than well he knows what dragons are through Azdaja, second phase is Golbez proper, we beat his ass and then we rescue Azdaja, maybe she has enough power left to live.

Sounds pretty straightforward to me. Don't put more thought into this than the writers.

I disagree. To me that dragon has zero wings and looks 100% like how dragons in IV look like. The whole chonky segmented scales. It also just looks way too skinny. It looks closer to Ran'jit's dragon then what little we have seen of Azdaja. Not saying that something can't happen to her or she can't be transformed in some way.

I think you're grossly underestimating the writers. They don't just do 'here is the reference, now clap'; they recognize the value of said reference, but they do try to weave it into the world itself so that it matters a bit more than that--and crucially, so that it has any storytelling value at all to the people who haven't played the source game.

XIV Golbez absolutely, from a development and marketing perspective, has a shadow dragon because IV Golbez has a shadow dragon. But they very clearly intend it to be deeper than that; dragons are a relatively special thing in XIV, so he can't just have one with no explanation, so they wrote the plot around him having Azdaja to lead into his shadow dragon who, now that we've seen it in part, clearly resembles Azdaja. If the shadow dragon was just going to be a nothing-special second phase gimmick they wouldn't have put it in the art (Golbez is a cool enough design and enough of a hook by himself if all you want is IV nostalgia and 'here's the bad guy'), so the fact that it's in the art means that it's somehow worth teasing and foreshadowing.

But speaking of the art, I can't really get behind SannaR's mention that the body doesn't resemble Azdaja. We just don't see enough of it to be sure on that; the background outside of the dragon, Golbez and the throne is too blurry, so I can't really say 'there should be wings there and there aren't'. All we've really got are the head--which as said, resembles her in the horns and the most curious thing to me is having both eyes--and the hand and part of the body on the other side. The hand's the right shape, the body's the right size, so it's mainly the texture that's wrong there--and I could easily see that being maybe what she looks like without feathers, or in armor, or a void-corruption carapace or something.

Agreed.

I have a very hard time believing that it won't be Azdaja. Our whole reason for visiting the 13th was to rescue her. And, to be honest, it'd be pretty rubbish if it were just some random Dragon he had hidden away all this time - why should we care about that? Defeating a last-minute addition Dragon would be completely inconsequential.

The story has, however, highlighted Azdaja's plight. When you consider that

Golbez has been draining her aether over a long period of time (somewhat evidenced by him giving out small portions of it to the archfiends to gain their service). It isn't difficult to believe that she'd be corrupted if he were help himself to whatever aether she has left, which is probably what he'll do as part of whatever plan he has) and he already demonstrated that he has full control over her even without that.

Being forced to fight her, and the consequences of doing so (particularly for poor Vtra), provides a much more solid story point than Golbez producing some random dragon for us to defeat without any lasting consequence.

Again I'm not saying it can't be her post transformation of some kind. I'm just saying that the few times we have seen her she doesn't have bulky scales and isn't that skinny. The dragon we do see reminds me of the jointed plastic toy snakes you'd play with back when I was a kid. While being "skinny" like the dragons from BotW/TotK.

And considering how the Golbez fight happens in IV I could see it playing out sort of what Eisi describes.

As in IV you beat up Calcabrina, then after a short out of fight chat go into a fight where Golbez summons a Shadow Dragon. Where it incapacitates everyone but Cecil (and Kain if you can time his jump correctly). Just as all seems lost in comes a Mist Dragon that defeats said Shadow Dragon. Oh look it's adult Rydia. Where you then get the fun of trying to get your party back on their feet.

All of that without being able to save or heal up going into the Golbez fight. Not sure if you get a breather in the pixel remaster or not. In the key art the Dragon is showing enough of its body that if it has wings it those probably would be showing a little. Anyone able to post the drawing of all 7 of the 1st Brood? I know it's just an Artist rendition of them but it can help compare and contrast.

Editing this post again just cause I don't want to make a new one to make a new short one that painting is either A: really old, B: done by various artist over time or C: painted by an Ascian cause four of those dragons most people wouldn't have an idea of what they looked like after the 3rd age. Except for Ratatosker who only "recently" wouldn't be available to get a good look at.

I just think the horns, in particular, are too similar to be a coincidence. If it's not Azdaja or some "shadow" equivalent, I'd be very surprised. I'd chalk up any dissimilarities to either artistic license or some manner of transformation.

And for the record, she looks pretty slender to me in the instance we've seen her so far, especially relative to some of the other major dragons we've seen.

Yeah, I'd guess its Golbez manifesting some creature from the aether he has taken from Azdaja, aka a shadow Azdaja aka essentially a primal. It definitely looks close enough to be based off her to me, if it isn't actually her being mind controlled in the first place. There's really not enough of a difference btwn the art and the in-game model to assume its an entirely different dragon or something.

No, the Omega raid storyline actually went to decent lengths to legitimize its angle; a lot of those bosses were described as in-universe fiction that Omega misunderstood, while later it blurred the lines into 'actually Omega legitimately might've met Kefka', to seed the idea that actually this might be The Omega. We decided to consider this patch 6.4 and the next patch 6.5 as paired titles. In patch 6.4, the "throne" that Golbeza has sat on so far has been laid out straight, and we have presented in an easy-to-understand manner what the "criminal" refers to, what actions correspond to it, and future developments. After clearing patch 6.4, I think it would be interesting to reconsider its meaning. I think we'll start to see faint hints of what will happen after the patch 6.X series, but I don't think we can predict it yet (laughs).

As the story is finally reaching its climax, I have collected all the foreshadowing that has been stretched around, both big and small. I wonder if it will be there as a highlight. In a sense, the 6.0 main quest was intentionally left untouched, so I think you can enjoy it as a 6.0 after story. As a battle, it's the final chapter, so we're aiming for content that's as crunchy as the "Pandemonium" series..

Something worht noting that those quotes allude to, but don't outright state: The Japanse 6.4 patch name is roughly 'The Throne's Criminal'. So Golbez ain't exactly a saint, unless it turns out that phrasing is used ironically.

Also, that 6.4 is apparently being written as the climax and conclusion of the 6.x story, with 6.5 being the leadin for the next; that makes sense, but good to have it confirmed.

A certain Hingashi lord? Are we meeting for the 1st time the guy who rules over Kugane? As if they meant Hien they'd of used Doman, right? Or will it be a certain character that I can't stand that is the heir to the Soy sauce trade?

Golbez was under control by somebody in FFIV when he did a lot of his horrible acts in the game...what if the Watcher's destruction was another one of them? What if the current Golbez is no longer under the control of that influence and is trying to fix the very mess he helped unleash, and the criminal who caused it turned out to be either somebody now long since dead (Igeyorhm), or somebody we now currently know who is having to turn her life around (perhaps Zero IS Igeyorhm)?

Then again the "Throne's Criminal" could be something non-physical and just be something like greed, despair, or some emotion being manipulated that helped lead to the state of affairs. Well, we see that Zero is telling the truth about her mortal origins via her flashback, I think. However, it'd be interesting if, instead of being an Azem shard, she's actually an Ascian shard. Though that's kind of repeating Gaia's storyline too much to me.

However, I want to point out: Her mother has been mentioned a lot in an offhanded manner. What if her mother was Igeyorhm? Playing a hero, while really working towards the goal of the Rejoining. Like Hades as Solus or Cylva as the Shadowkeeper.

And half-voidsent Zero wasn't an accident, but an early prototype of what Emet ultimately did to make Vauthry, who arguably was half-sineater? (A concept I'll confess still doesn't really make much sense to me given what voidsent/sin easters actually are. How are you half of what is essentially a metabolic condition? But w/e. Also, insert "patient Zero" pun here.)

There is definitely something important about Zero's origins/past we don't know, and it's going to play in somehow.

That...would be interesting. In that case, perhaps Golbez was her father. The first Voidsent, the strongest one simply because it was a calculated transformation on the part of the Ascians. That would explain why he feels different from other Voidsent, because he was essentially the prototype. Or perhaps it's a reversal, like with Mitron and Lohegrif. Perhaps Golbez was Igeyorhm who did this on themselves as an experiment.
