But quirky uwu?
Bring back our baby Zenos SE!!!!!!!

Definitely on the train for his return.
In the context of this discussion, what would they actually do with him if he were to somehow reappear?
I mean, having him become an ally of any kind would seem completely unrealistic, not to mention political suicide (Garlemald in general seems to hate him) not to mention out of character.
And I suspect the Alliance would rather like to seem him locked away in some dark prison in the middle of nowhere.
Having him sitting around bored again would be completely pointless.
Having him continue his obsession with the Warrior of Light would be counterproductive since that story element ran it's course.
I do honestly think that they did the right thing. I enjoyed his character arc, but I don't see where else they could've gone with it.
He stopped breathing in the last cutscene.
Maybe not Zenos but could see a new character with a personality similar to him.
All of this didn't prevent them from bringing back Gaius Baelsar as an ally, despite the terrible stuff he did.
This game is pretty found of turning old enemies into allies (Ardbert, Elidibus, Gaius, Emet, Fordola, Ysayle, etc...).
I can see them bringing Zenos back as someone who is trying to live differently, maybe as an adventurer in another part of the world. He could be an occasional trust member, or a circumstantial ally.
I'd rather have him stay dead this time, but if they want to bring him back there's other directions his character could take.
The difference here is, there's no one for him to body hop into like he did before. It was just him and the WoL at the end of everything fistfighting each other until one stopped moving. Seeing as how he can only soulhop when there's a dead body and the WoL isn't dead, the only thing that could happen was permadeath.
Sooooooooo I just learned this the other day, but there's a game called FF Dissidia, and in that game there are hero-villain pairs from every numbered final fantasy game that represent each.
Zenos is the villain representative for FF14. He's that popular. I hope you're ready for his return at some point!
Nah, nah, see whats gonna happen is Zero is gonna go missing and they are gonna find her scythe, thrust into the ground from the handle and go "Wait, isn't that Zero's scythe..?" and you'll notice that the scythe isn't an "r" shape anymore but more of an "n" shape and you'll see the whole camera pan over to Zero with a Zenos stare and say "Ahh.. hello again friend".
Okay, I'm done and going to get coffee.
Zenos was a wet blanked of an antagonist. The only time he could have done real damage to us as players was when he took over our body and almost killed one of the WoL's friends. Besides that, he only pissed us off that time he injured Y'shtola.
He's one note.
I wish they started committing to character deaths in the story. They're still milking Haurchefant and Ysaille.
True but that didn't really mean much story-wise. He just spares us twice so we can get stronger. But in the end, we beat him just cuz the story claims were now stronger than at the start of SB for some arbitrary reason. I'll be honest, he was serviceable in 4.0. But they shouldn't have revived him then and certainly not now.
Not the first time that's happened. At the end of ARR, we need literal divine intervention to beat Lahabrea (especially in the redone version, where he outright kills you before Hydaelyn steps in), but by the end of Heavensward, we take him and Igheyorhm down at the same time, including their merged Ascian Prime form. The WoL does canonically grow stronger all the time. We're like Saiyans or something.
7.1 Zenos SuperduperMegaUltimate fight. Please look forward to it!
Zenos looks at you at the start of the fight and if your using any addons or cheats you instantly die forever. As soon as you login after that anytime you instantly die.
I bet he'll come back as part of the next Ultimate. The next Ultimate being something completely new compared to all of the previous Ultimates being redesigned trial or or raid fights, a fight against all of the Garlean Legati and Emperor Varis.
I think it made him somewhat unique though (still glad he is gone out of the story, and hope it wont go back to keep his state as he is). Having a single dream, not caring about anything else going on, not caring about the chaos you are bringing, you only have 1 purpose and only care about that. His character did fullfil that well. Completely careless actions, no emotions, and just behaving like a puppet to just get to that one dream you wanted.
And it worked, because story wise, he was still on the background most of the time. The actual dangers were rarely coming from him. 1 of the expansions would have just been the same without him. Even the time pressure aspect the story had was already there. Zenos didnt make any changes there. With it, the way zenos died, it actualy fullfilled his dream, which i think is a nice finish to it. Making it not his final action would be a disgrace.
And that one time he could kill us, was the one mission i cared least about. Stealth in this game is just horrible when you have played actual stealth games with plenty of options to go for.
If Zenos shows up, in any form, I will cart him back to the edge of the universe, beat the life out of him again, and leave him there, again.
Rinse, repeat, if necessary.
Zenos will come back as a minion, if I have anything to say about it!
Don't bring him back. I mean it isn't like the writing team takes notes from the forums (thank god), but still - We don't need a Rise of Skywalker/Palpatine scenario in ffxiv.
"sOmEhOw ZeNoS rEtUrNeD"
I prefer to see new villains and new characters. Zeno's story ended perfectly. Just like Emet and Hythlodaeus.
We probably will see him again although I'd rather not. SE is all about fanservice.
I don't want him back in the MSQ but I think it'd be funny to see him occasionally drinking his sorrows away at the bar in Ultima Thule
Yes I can totally imagine Zenos drinking trying to forget about Roni and me :3
They come up with some weasely "but he is zenos from other shard" explanation.
But if he is loporrit, then i guess it is fine.
Gimme my Zenos back. This World is so damn boring without him.
Please no...
Zenos story is one part of the whole lore that does not really made any sense...
For example: Why they needed an Ultima Weapon, when their prince is so strong that he wins against us easily, after we destroyed Ultima Weapon and fought the dragonwars? :')
And why is this guy whining that our life is so much better than his life? I mean..., Zenos is so powerfull, that he could have done everything he ever wanted. Who should have stopped him? He had the chance to become an adventurer, too. A singer, a botanist or whatever. Nobody could have stopped him. But he decided to become a mad whining murderer. No I don't want this character back. :(
Give instead beloved potato Papalymo back. <3
I would be so happy to see the little guy back. He and his sacrifiy got too less attention.
The most logical (and seemingly accurate) explanation for why Zenos didn't get involved with Eorzea sooner is simply that it wasn't his row to hoe. Someone that "done" with life isn't exactly going to go out of his way to intervene on behalf of another ranking Garlean officer without a very good reason, and at that time the WoL was likely beneath his notice.
As for why a man with all that power wouldn't just go do whatever he wanted? Lack of drive. It was made known to us that Zenos's childhood was uh... horrible, to put it bluntly. He was vastly superior to all of his peers, and even the man chosen to teach him the art of the sword could only hold an edge over him due to the Garlean people's inherent deficiency in manipulating aether. Zenos was so determined to master his teacher's skills that he shoved crystals into his flesh, allowing him to utilize their aether. With this, he proceeded to slay his instructor with the man's own technique. It would be the last time he felt much of anything until meeting the WoL, an individual in whom he saw a great rival.
Being raised as a child soldier, or in his case a child supersoldier, kinda robs you of a lot of perspective. There are a great many things in the world you're like as not never going to consider pursuing, and life paths other than those thrust upon you by your caretakers are pretty high on that last. His upbringing aside (noting also that he had caretakers/handlers, as his parents couldn't be arsed to bother with him), his unusual abilities more or less meant he was a pariah. Not just to others, but even in his own mind. He knew he wasn't like them. Prodigious talent has a way of alienating people to an insane degree, unfortunately.
I can't remember that we got to know much about Zenos past 'in' the game. And for me the 'bad childhood' argument is too weak. It's the standard villain. Bad because of bad. In my personal opinion Zenos was a very boring whining character. And I don't get all the fans of this mad murderer.
If they bring him back, this would be really frustrating to me. But hey, it's not about me! I am afraid it's more about fanservice and people who decided to like this murderer. xD
If I could choose, I would like to see Papalymo back. He was a good and funny guy and belongs to the story since 1.0. and the Gridania starters from this time lost a lot.
Papalymo, and somehow also Yda.
I have still hope! I know it's silly, but I still have hope to see him again. : )
I figure both Zenos and Papalymo are gone for good. Zenos died in Ultima Thul, which is a long way from home. It's doubtful his soul could return to Etheirys. A manifestation of Papalymo appears briefly in the aetherial sea in the form of Tupsimati, which you may recall was responsible for aiding the party in dealing with Ilberd. That's pretty much all that remains of him, I figure. Between the way he died and the length of time he's been in the lifestream, there's probably nothing left to bring back.
