Or... pulling out a magical chainsaw and becoming a magical garment girl... even though poster boy is a guy... >.>

If the stuff with the 13th continues into the expansion, I think White Mage would also very much work, as in the lore you had the War of the Magi where you had white mages from Amdapor fighting the voidsent backed black mages from Mcach...
But I do hope they don't just pull a reverse-Shadowbringers of "We're gonna bring the Light to the 13th!"
you'll probably never get a healer as poster boy job
Ninja or Reaper as the next posterboy
BLU packaged with a New World expansion. Pretty please?
Possibly a other melee job, or even a caster. (Because casters and scouting are due for another job)
A new scouting job or black mage are my current bets.
It doesnt mean we wont go there. Important thing to remember is that things can be written without being meant to be hints for future; and then in retrospect other things are written based off past things, turning them into hints only retroactively. A lot of ff14's writing does that rather cleverly, so possibility of 13th is not entirely out of picture just because of Yoshi-P's words.
Yeah. Pity that derplander seems to be tank/melee exclusively kind of guy since 2.0.
Casters can be marketable too!

I want a healer as a poster job just to see how they'll do it xD
if we go to meracydia the forst one that comes to mind would be summoner. just because of the allag connection.
but somehow i think we had enough books in the scions.
so i think either white mage, black mage or the new job... its time for a mage. just a hunch
I originally thought 7.0 was to have Ninja as the poster job, back when I thought it was going to be focusing purely on Garlemald. I figured it would be fitting for a theme of sneaking into Garlemald to bring them down.
But when they revealed it was heading towards the finale of this overall story arc, I knew that wasn't going to happen.
The issue with them having boxart boy as a healer is that it's viewed as a support role and they want boxart boy to be the star. So unless everyone in the world dies and requires some kind of mass resurrection we're not likely to see boxart boy as a healer. They'd probably have him show up as the founder of a store chain called Walls R Us with a sign showing the motto of "Keeping things erect since 2013" first... >.>
It already exists in the game, I think? Not as a job, but I vaguely remember it being a part of the AST quests.
To the OP: Probably BLM. It's Yoshi's favorite class and it'd be the first caster. Also isn't a "dark mage" sort of a big rpg thing? Like it should happen at some point.
As long as the theme of the expansion favours a healer main character, they might do it. If we ever get a expansion themed around undead enemies I am willing to bet the poster WoL will be a healer
They might even smack Krile in there as the sidekick Sword/Shield of the WoL during the expac (if they wanna sell a new DPS/Tank in the poster)
If it were a normal FF game sure. Healer VS Undead... but this is FFXIV where just about every traditional RPG mechanic has been stripped from the game so we can burn fire elementals to death, stab slimes to death, drain HP from undead (before the spell was removed as button bloat), etc...
Based on their track record we can scratch out any casters, so healers/magic DPS is a no. So it'll probably be whatever DPS they release because the other jobs already have scion representation. Except maybe machinist, but derplander hasn't taken up a ranged role since the beginning too.
And even if they did pick a magic class it wouldn't be SCH/SMN. There has been no point in history where derplander has even looked in the direction of a book let alone opened one.
Actually, he picked up ARC briefly in an Echo scene back in 1.0's opening (he was GLA at the start and end of it though). He's also ARC in SHB's opening movie when it shows him wandering in the First (he's holding the same bow and a now empty quiver he used in 1.0's opening). So yeah he definetely has used a ranged class in the past, so MCH is a good a choice for his next 'poster class' role as any I guess.
Not that he was pretty good in the role either..
-New 7.0 Job
- Bard: WoL was also a gladiator at one point, I think and he became a Paladin this expansion. So Bard wouldn't be out of the question.
- Summoner: The primals in Eoreza aren't a threat anymore, so I can see the WoL taking full advantage of this going Summoner.
My bet is on some new job which will be a dual wielding Techno Barbarian.
If we're going to Meracydia then we have to assume that place is a barren wasteland filled with remnants of Allagan technology that natives picked up.
If the WoL is a new class it might be Dyamis related.
Something like
Empathic Seer.
And he just chucks dynamite at everything cause he has no idea how dynamis works still.
Random thought that crossed my mind.
We got a new Healer job in Endwalker and after Stormblood we are not likely to get 2 new DPS in a single expansion so 7.0 if they stay with 2 jobs per expansion will most likely be tank + DPS
7.0 could be the first chapter of a long saga like the one we just finished at the start of Endwalker making it possibly like a fresh start.
So based on those 2 things... Poster job as a new Tank job Freelancer. It would use a Bastard sword or hand and a half sword with no shield so it could be used 1 or 2 handed depending on the skill used and its skills wouldn't be anything super flashy. It would be a real "meat and potatoes" grounded type of tank loaded with skills often given as basic things to beginner jobs in the FF series like Throw Stone.
I'd like it to be Corsair, or whatever new name they might give it. Would be exciting to have the trailer cut to the WoL at the bow of their own ship, navigating to the new world (Or Meracydia). And a scene change to them using their saber to cut through vines and such.
To add onto this, Yoshi-P has already said that any future jobs will likely not come from the FF catalog of jobs and be completely new.

Or maybe if we go to the New World, BLU is the poster class itself anyway.
GEO wouldn't need to be too similar to CNJ or AST if it was a Magical DPS Job rather than a healer. Which is how it should be anyway, more in line with Yanxian Geomancy, and with a focus on ground effects and positional based mechanics, using Wind and Water elemental spells. We have yet to have any serious Water spell representation outside of BLU.
An alternative that would carry over many of the same themes and aesthetics could be Onmyoji.
BLU as a regular job being our "new" job would also be hugely disappointing. We expect a new job, not a recycled job.
But I agree that a Scouting job is most likely.
The geomancer we have in the game uses conjurer assets and the NPC even uses a CNJ wand. The lore book also says outright that geomancy is a combination of conjury and astromancy and there's a whole plot point that using Astrologian healing spells intertwines with geomancy. If they're not supposed to be a healer, or even if they are and they're introduced as a playable job, I'd imagine there would need to be some retconning in the AST questline considering the whole SB part was set up to show how it's the eastern version of AST.
Onmyojutsu is in the lore book as being the eastern version of thaumaturgy, where their magic is all about balancing umbral and astral magic exactly like a THM or BLM.
Considering we're probably not going to get any healers, probably not going to get anything from a previous FF, not going to get anything too similar as something else per the interview quotes I posted, and probably not getting a new pet job considering how those have been greatly diminished, we're not likely to get either of these.
My money is either on GNB being the poster class-- or Machinist/Dancer (just for front cover alone). Though ARR was technically BLM for the cover of the game (and cutscenes was WAR). MNK/SAM was the cutscene cover for Stormblood, and the actual cover was Zenos
Again, why does everyone forget Swallows Compass? The Four Lords questline is much more impactful than the AST questlines in which Geo gets a small cameo role.
The Geomancer we have in the game uses a Bell for a weapon, and uses a whole host of offensive Water and Wind elemental spells. So many more assets were used here than the throw-away NPC in the AST questline that reuses stock assets like a CNJ wand and aero spell effects.

Chiseled into the great wall which cuts across the plains of Yanxia, between two of the Dairyu Moon Gates, is the visage of Ganen, the legendary hero who united Doma. The first king of the new kingdom was not only a military genius, but also the founder of geomancy, and so after his death this royal mausoleum became a holy place to which his disciples would make pilgrimage. Alas, following the imperial invasion, it was abandoned and fell into disrepair, and none can say for certain what dangers lie within. Regardless, if Soroban's rigorous training under Qitian Dasheng is to continue, you and your comrades must venture into these hallowed halls and obtain the tamate-bako of geomancy, an ancient relic with the power to manipulate time itself...
