Hmm, perhaps I'm misunderstanding your meaning, but Viera/Hrothgar definitely aren't to blame for this set not including a hairstyle. Gaia's hair simply isn't made to fit player characters. The model possesses limited movement meant only for cutscenes. Hrothgar are male only (for now) anyway and never would have been wear it, and Viera have received every new hairstyle fitted for them since Endwalker came out including Lyse's and soon Alisae's. This is a "can't be ported to anybody" problem, not a "can't be ported to Viera" problem.
Nah it's a factor. Longest hair still goes to 2 styles that are exclusive to Roegadyn Females.
Beyond that the only long hairstyles ingame belong to NPCs being Gaia and Ysayle.
I've yet to see any long style on Hrothgar that goes past the neck.
Waist long hair in a fantasy game seems like a impossibility.
Let's say for arguments sake it was a Viera problem, what gives you the impression they've had any qualms whatsoever about releasing and selling hairstyles we can't use?
They prefer to avoid the clipping of ears on both races but the modding community has long since proven that any hairstyle not compatible in the game can be used on any race just fine. I firmly believe they will use the beast races limitations as an excuse to only release short styles going forward.
It's not so much a Viera problem then it is a Hrothgar problem.
But we shall see how they tackle Hrothgals in the far future.
I still find it mildly disappointing that Ryne, Gaia, Ysayle, Hilda, Omega Twins, Modest Minfilia all have styles you could most definitely use. Particularly Hilda's and that just doesn't seem to be the case. Pretty underwhelming.
Edit: @Mimilu SE may as well just add in mod support since the modding scene clearly does more work in the devs. Probably just had to change a single line of code to make it dyeable.
One piece, not dyeable, too expensive, massively uncomfortable boots that the game has literally made fun of...
Hard pass.
Its funny to me they put so little effort into these, and makes it so easy to not purchase them.
It's because they look terrible (in my opinion) with any sort of movement involved, people have made mods of floor length hair already for here and it literally looks like the hair is a piece of cardboard waving from side to side. It also levitates off your back in a weird way past the shoulders/upper back instead of lying flat in a resting state. This isnt the modders fault though because the game treats hair like one big chunk instead of individual parts when it comes to movement and from what I can see doesn't account for anything/much past the shoulders.
Square would need to change how their hair works before that could see any improvement imo.
I'd like to point out that someone did it for free three years ago. It has separate parts and is dyable.

Ah yes, Viera/Hrothgar are to blame when they didn't receive a single hairstyle outside of their racial exclusives until Endwalker and when NOBODY has received a new hairstyle longer than shoulder length since *checks notes* Great Lengths in 2019, going on 4 years ago. Find something new to blame because SE doesn't give half a hoot about selling hairstyles or headgear Viera can't equip. They never have.
Absolutely horrible to blame the races that already had nothing for why you can't have a hairstyle made for an NPC that has virtually no movement physics/hair bones. If it has been modded to fit, and I'm sure it has, it has undergone a fair amount of editing.

its so weird to blame hrothgar for this when we JUST got the Jesus longhair and Alphinauds hair (soon Alisaies).
And while hrothgar women COULD be a factor they plain dont exist and fviera got Lyses long braid in 6.1
This is like blaming hrothgar for hien and hildas hair not being obtainable when christ knows the dev team has not once in 3 years considered hrothgar a race they have to make things work for straight away. We couldnt use hair from Bozja/DR/Zadnor, our home region for godssake.
This is because the FF13 gunblades, if I recall, are not like the FF8 style gunblades that Gunbreakers use, instead being able to switch between a melee weapon and a firearm, meaning it would not fit as a Gunbreaker weapon. What would make more sense is to make the Blazefire Saber's firearm mode as a Machinist weapon.
Got some people in here who need a Darwin award for their idea of what effort is. Lol
What does that mean? If you're meaning that it's a lot of effort to separate the outfit into pieces (and anyone claiming otherwise doesn't have a clue), then IDK, please do explain to us how difficult it is. /shrug People can only go by what they see if they don't know precise information, and what they see is that 1. SQEX is a big company, and 2. a modder already "made" her outfit 3 years ago.
And yet having completely static capes that clip through all the races tails, but also clings to the characters back somehow looks good?
And jesus there are tons of hairs that are already clipping with hats and other glams in the game already.
If clipping bothers you, this isn't the game for you.
I find it strange how you got "clipping" out of this explanation when the whole paragraph focuses how the longer NPC hairstyles and mods aren't made with proper movement physics in mind. They're made for cutscenes where NPCs will at most RP walk around and talk, not for player characters. If they can rehaul their hair system one day that's one thing, but as it is this isn't about clipping.
There's videos on YouTube to explain the process of porting and fitting clothes to new models if you want to literally see it.
In a nutshell though, they basically exported the garment, removed all of the parts of the jacket and (I don't know specifically what mod it is so I can only guess from here) upscaled it to a different/multiple modded bodies or refit the edited garment back to the vanilla bodies.
As far as the splitting, I'm moreso willing to guess that the outfit was originally in separate pieces (as was the case with Lyse's gown) and Square was the one who fused them into one. I can't say for sure unless someone can get a hold of Gaia's model in Eden wearing the dress and check that via a certain gpose program.
i feel generally ripped off after buying this outfit. I literally CANNOT use this outfit. how can i glam something if it doesnt allow me to wear feet, legs and hands with it??? its useless unless I just want to stand around without doing any content while wearing this outfit. this is a huge mistake
Well I just assumed its what they meant considering everything else they said was a blatant lie.
NPCs are built off of character skeletons, and more often than not call the exact same animations that characters do. And the long hair styles we do have effectively do shoot off the back exactly like they describe, but that happens with the hairs we have that are longer already. Go actually look at the longer hairs that Aura or Roegadyn has, they do not comform to the back or flow evenly there, there is a significant gap on the back to where it is.
Furthermore, it even happens already on the gaia model when its just standing, its not perfectly crafted or anything, nor is it one solid chunk of hair that ignores physics, it works about as well as any other player hair that has decent length, as in the gap and basic physics clip into a lot of things. Its weird to me to selectively apply this standard to a game.
The real reason why hair wasn't included in this case is because it would take more effort than the small indie dev was willing to do. For whatever reason.
If this question is about what I think it is you can apply the outfit to a glamour plate and glamour it over your existing whatever ilevel gear. It's just like mascot outfits. So while I can't comment about how much you'll use it, you definitely CAN use it and run content with it without sacrificing ilevel.
The fact that many modders don't bother properly weighting the extremely long custom hairstyles either also probably says something about how time consuming / difficult it is to get long hair like that to look and behave in an even remotely natural way.
Gaia's exact hair is probably too cumbersome as it is, but I would love an 'inspired-by'-version that's a similar style and at a decently long length they can manage, like Great Lengths or some of the Femroe or F/Viera styles.
Sorry your assumption was wrong. No where did I mention clipping.
Also, go check out the Ysayle hair mod and tell me that it's not just one solid chunk moving back and forth when you run. Square clearly did not account for longer hair to exist in the game with how it looks.
You really have to wonder about the mogstation items, far more female items than male items, new items locked from viera due to headgear or hair, glam weapons have wands for WHM and BLM, which are impossible to glam most gear people will use in-game with.
Does the mogstation team even pay attention to how people play or what people want? I feel like it's so disconnected and any feedback takes forever to get through.
I mean I've seen people pay for others to take SCREENSHOTS of their characters
I don't think that's a good comparison for that particular hairstyle as the people making mods are prone to making errors, I'd check out Ysayle's hair in HW Trusts and see how that moves, careless "modders" could easily throw away the hair bones that make things flow nicely. Imo if it's on a regular player model NPC that exists outside of cutscenes then it's fair game to make them work on players.
