I'll be working all day, then setting up a fire bowl in the driveway to roast hot dogs and wait for kids. We found sets of Pokemon cards in small trick-or-treat packs, gonna give those out along with the usual candy just for fun.

Opened a couple of packs just for fun, even though I don't play the game. Pulled a foil Chandelure.

The new datacenter launches on November 1. Meaning if they pull all of the NA servers down to add in the new data center it would most likely be on October 31.

That being said, it's one day. Nothing's been posted confirming if the servers will even be down that day or for how long. If they didn't have it on this day, it would inconvenience someone else for plans they made for that day.

Any FC that's worried about it, should have plans to do it either before or after October 31.

They're not gonna change it just because of a holiday. We've been through this before already. Take the opportunity to celebrate Halloween irl instead and those who have events planned can rearrange....people will still come and celebrate regardless of if it's on the actual date or not.

First time playing a MMORPG that has maitenance on a holiday that has lots of parties and events. Why they need to shut all servers down for adding another datacenter not connected to the others.

Personally, I find the spirit rise when I see people get into fist fights looking for cheap stuff the day after Thanksgiving (turkey day for non burger americans). You gotta find joys in the simple things. lol

But it is connected to the others? Dynamis should be able to visit the other NA DCs.

I don't think there's been any official confirmation on that (?) but I'd be shocked if we didn't. I might have just missed it somewhere though.

From the initial announcement: "Players will be able to visit Worlds in other logical data centers within the same physical data center."

to the 10/13 announcement

The phyiscal data center is being expanded with another logical data center (Dynamis) with more worlds planned for a later date.

World of Warcraft has events all day on Halloween including fighting the Headless Horseman, and the free trial should be enough to get access. Team Fortress 2 also has great Halloween stuff including maps, outfits and special game modes. Both can be played with other people. Just some suggestions for you and/or your friends in case you aren’t outside partying.

I feel sorry for the Square Enix staff in America who have to work that evening and oversee the maintenance.

It might surprise you, but infrastructure support staff get 0 holidays off generally, and are on-call/working. I worked either Thanksgiving or Christmas, and 1 year both, when I was in the field supporting clients.

Halloween is a nothing holiday for most adults, except for parents of children interested in the holiday. But then, my dad had to work every Halloween when I was growing up so....

In fact if it wasn't, it would almost be a non starter unless you really want a house that badly, given what I've been hearing about what Materia's going through in terms of queue hell due to the lack of population (I could swear I've seen people post that they've been suggested by mentors to unsync not just extremes but even ordinary story trials as sprouts on Materia because of how poor the supply of roulette players is and the resultant queues).

TBH it might even still fail to thrive for exactly that reason: because of the housing factor the population is likely to heavily skew towards veteran endgame players transferring over to get land, so I'm almost expecting an even more hardcore atmosphere than Aether (an atmosphere that's already making me strongly consider moving my Gilgamesh character to Crystal in the near future) and horrid queues for the new players that SE hopes to attract ...

I think there will be a lot of shuffling around within the current 3 and many flocking to the new DC to make something of it. Perhaps a more JP style PF / DF community could pop up.

Speaking as someone from a country who doesn't celebrate this, is this night actually an important event for adults? (And I say that as someone who gets rostered on to work Good Fiday, Christmas Day and New Years Eve)

I know a lot of countries in EU celebrate the following day for religious reasons, some having a public holiday, and Germany I believe having a quiet day too. But is the night actually significant for adult American shift-workers that they feel they would be missing out?

For those with children, yes. It's one of those standout occasions where you're building memories of your children as they grow up at the same time sharing your memories of your own childhood and the things you used to do on Halloween.

For those without children, not really, though there are those that turn it into another occasion to throw a party. For the most part, it's a very child-centric holiday in the US.

Let's not forget about the fact that we actually celebrate Halloween for the better part of the month, having all sorts of parties here and there, not just the 31st. I went to one yesterday. :p
