After playing around for a bit, I still love it, but I agree with you on the mechanics as well. I don't much like the whole switching modes nor do I like that I can't track materials needed for a craft.

After experiencing it, my rough plan is to do exactly as much as I need to do to acquire the cosmetics I want, and then never touch it again.
Its a pretty tedious slog with very little payoff. I don't see the point of the social features seeing as everyone's island is 100% identical except for maybe they put their workshop on the left instead of the right?
It's a personal safe space players can use for social interactions. The buildings, roads etc. have a glamour system so there is some customization present (likely gonna be sold on Mogstation). And of course, you can also show off your minions and named animals. Great space for roleplayers or players who just want to hide from evil randoms.
Boy, oh boy, is it tedious. Unless I'm missing something, it's ultra slow to rank up as you only get 10 XP per gather, or 20 XP if you catch an animal (with awful RNG to match). Ranking also doesn't award any of the currency needed to buy any of the cool new glam items.
In order to expand, you have to pay the sea tokens which are also used to buy the cool new items (including the hair). Each hairstyle costs 6,000, mounts are 12,000 each. To craft and sell items, you basically have to wait 4-6 real time hours for each craft to be done to net back like 39 of the sea tokens. Then, every little time you want to expand anything, the mammets demand you pay them 500-1,000. I also just found out that once you build your granaries, to even send them out on a gathering mission (think gathering retainer venture) you have to pay them 50 sea totems.
It honestly feels like it will take months of horribly boring slog to get one single hairstyle.
Please tell me I'm wrong and missing something.
People talking about it being a quiet getaway and all I can think of are the mammets clearcutting forest with buzzsaws and the minions shouting at all hours of the day.
Also gotta admit I'm not a fan of them shoving a bunch of mammets inside the house.

The sanctuary is really enjoyable. I think I am done with it until tmrw when the 12 hour build time is done on my latest construct.
It feels very much like a lighter version of what Lost Ark offers as its own equivalent to Island Sanctuary. Yet over there not only can you place furniture in Lost Ark's version there's the option to invite and place NPC's that you befriend during the game's story as well.
I hope future patches add more things to do and that more rewards are offered that aren't overly 'cutesy'. Once you're done with the initial introduction it very quickly becomes another gated daily chore with lengthy timers and a steep grind. I was hoping for more opportunities for direct engagement.
Maybe they could add a cave that you descend and fight enemies like in Stardew Valley...?

I was hoping that we can decorate/build everything to our likings, but noooope!
Still the music is nice so far, it's a good place to pass time while waiting for static/friends/que etc.
If it's our very own island why can't we build a house to live in?. Not talking about the huts with mammets in them.
Personally, I expected more of a paradise and it also seems to be a missed opportunity for an extra house (instanced housing), it definitely feels very basic, the beaches are mostly great but we cannot access the entire map which is a pity, being our island in its entirety should allow us to stand everywhere.
I wanted it to be more like "Breath of the Wild" where one can go wherever one can see, sadly not on the Island Sanctuary but I guess SE can always improve it.
The Island Sanctuary could also become a much needed housing alternative with an aetheryte to teleport there directly.
Pretty exciting to me that this is apparently just the start of it. Devs said that they will be adding more onto the Island Sanctuary every other major match. Though as I took the day off from work to play today I can tell you, you cant really no life it as there are timers for building new structures. This is something thats meant to be a daily log in for a half hour, kinda thing.
I just upgraded my cabin and they upgrade the walking path as well! I love 24/7 Island Sanctuary :D

This only makes me want to say this.
Gatherers and crafters are in a really crappy state with bots making new recipes be more trouble than they're worth less than 2 weeks after a raid tier comes out. And the only lasting content they have is Diadem, and only if you don't mind the fact the restoration is technically over and done with already which frankly kills all the immersion of it.
When they mentioned the island would involve farming and crafting I imagined they'd be smart about it and:
1. Have no DoH or DoL level requirement for it, so you could enjoy the feature AND level them from 1 to 90 at the same time.
2. Actually involve those classes at all.
Why even have those classes at all if they're going to rot like that. Just remove every one but fisher and make both maps and crystals/clusters drop from dungeon chests. After all the community is very vocal in not caring about the source as long as they pay little or nothing at all for their materials whenever discussing bots.
This makes me laugh.
The majority of actual new content they add is NOT combat focused. Even Bozja and Eureka are just redesigned Heavensward Diadem... Which basically means until Variant Dungeons come out it will have been over 5 years where anything that isn't an electric boogaloo of stabilished content was strictly lifesim or dress-up fluff.
Don't talk as if the game has surplus of new combat content coming.
Only just really started it but I already love it. Just has a nice, relaxing vibe with gorgeous scenery. Plus the fact the minions have little dialogue bubbles is just the cherry on the cake! I for one like the idea that there is no combat element in all honesty. I feel adding such a feature, even if its optional, may go against the nature of what this mode is meant to be. A chill place where class and job does not matter, where we the war-torn hero can escape that aspect of our life.
I'm stuck at trying to sow seeds. I'm in the sow mode, but nothing happens when I click on the plot, nor does anything happen when I select the seeds. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
When I can actually access the island I might give feedback. "Due to extreme server load, you were unable to travel to the island sanctuary." GG, squeenix. It's like launch week all over again.
Wasn't sure where else to put this, so into the general thread it goes. Although I have a basic hammer, I am unable to extract copper ore from the very copper-chunkful looking rocks on the mountain path. Instead, I use my hands to grab a single rock, despite having just gathered a bunch of limestone using the same hammer near the river minutes before. My stone-based gathering now seems stuck on no-tool mode. I thought perhaps my hammer lost durability or something and tried to craft a fresh one, but then got a message that I already had one of that tool and couldn't make a replacement.
Short version: I made a hammer, and used it, but then did some base progress and can't use it again for whatever reason. Help plz.
Hi guys! I'm not reading numerous threads.
My feedback on Island Sanc:
- Sprint is useless when your a DNC with An Evant and Petoton, Petolon gives a 30s boost to run speed, Sprint is 20! Sprint might be a little faster but I'd rather have my 30s speed buff and be able to dash to my next node!
- The fish area has a rotation with the above. (Do nodes spawn on pickups of other nodes?) Maybe a bigger delay on respawns? You can rotate it for nice exp, leading to exploits imo.

The orchestration should extend to your farms and extending areas. I've gone to my farms and thought 'The music's abit low. Extend it across the entire camp area.
