With all this talk about selling animations in mogstaion, it reminds me of another tale, lol.
Where do we draw the line where it becomes a F2P game with a mandatory subscription?
Sure, some people would pay it. But the current game design just doesn't have the same addictive gamble appeal as the big F2P money milking games do and a subscription on top would kill it. If SE went too far down that road, they'd simply cut the subscription and go all in on F2P milking because it would lure in more players than a monetized subscription game. But it would involve redesigning the game towards a different audience. It's not a good path to go down.
The difference being that when you buy an expansion you pay £30 or whatever it is. And you get a shed load of actual content and stuff with it..
As opposed to paying £30 and getting just a mount or some bs...
That's why noone cared about old school dlcs and microtransactions because you got a ton for your money. £20 got you 2 whole new stories in gta4 for example and all the associated stuff that came with..
£15 in the early assassins creed games got you entire extra chapters or a whole new story in some cases.. actual real content and good amounts of it..
Today. What does £20 get you on the mog station in terms of actual real content.or new gameplay.... a couple of emotes or a mount that should be included in the game anyway. Even if tied to achievement rewards or something. Give players something to do or work towards..especially when it's so common to hear players say there bored and there nothing to do because 99.999% of the games content is obsolete.
I agree. Adding things to Gold Saucer is cool. hang around long enough or grind out MGP long enough and you can afford anything there.
Adding even more cash shop customization is unfair. Frankly, I wasn't comfortable with them adding emotes at all, aside from the ones that came from previous events.
And I still bought Drink Tea anyway, grumbling the entire time.
While I do spend a lot of time anymore there AFK, or doing the occasional gold saucer attraction, if they are going to add things to it, they need to actually make your stay there more enjoyable.
I'd like to see more things added as rewards across content in general. Such as for achievements, healers could each use their own mount set like tanks, etc. Customization options such as animations, I would rather see added in a free update to the game.
Things is, it's common to hear players say there's nothing to do while there's plenty to do, just nothing that interests them. Content being obsolete is a viewpoint that will vary from player to player. Some folks need rewards to make it worth doing, others just enjoy playing for the fun of it.
Folks may hate it but I'd be willing to bet most players don't have most pvp achievements done. That there is something to do, yet many wont
No grumbling here. Drink tea is a must for any elezen  It's a must and it even passes for coffee.
The title of the thread made me sick to my stomach. Should be encouraging SE to add cool things that we can unlock playing the game, not the cash shop.
sorry im against the idea. what they should do instead is update race emote animations. some race really need them.
I'm not asking this to be in the cash shop for the sake of it, but mainly because i love the idea and it's absurd to think that squeenix (The infamous NFT/"play" to "earn" preacher that spawn failing live service one after the other) would add this kind of stuff for free in the game.
Now let's be real, this kind of feature will probably never be a thing at all outside of the modding comunity so be relieve ! :D
Not even going to bother with reading the post, just going to respond with no. This game is incredibly monetised already. It's bad enough they have actually monetised retainers. Let alone the atypical Free to play store cosmetics on top of a subscription fee and expansion costs.
Call me old fashioned, but I remember the olden days when you bought a game outright, then when expansions were released for games, they tended to be a new game in itself. MMOs just had monthly subscription costs and that was it. Now companies are trying to squeeze every penny out of you that they can. Store cosmetics and mounts are a prime example of content that could be earnable in game, but they don't because they know they have simps like you that will buy anything and everything off the store on top of the subscription cost you pay and the extra retainers you pay for.
Hell, you even created this post suggesting a way for a multi-billion dollar corporation to get even more money from you. If that's not a prime example of idiocy, then I don't know what is.
Support the game? You realise that FF14 is their money earner that is funding everything else.
Plenty of other MMOs survived quite fine on subs alone for many years. World Of warcraft, EVE online... The games that failed with subs are the ones that didn't retain a large enough audience after release. Two games that spring to mind were Lord Of the Rings Online and Star Wars The Old Republic that both did better going F2P since the games on release flopped and lost all the audience. Best way to get players back into the game was making it free to enter.
FF14 is the former which has such a huge audience despite it being subscription only that it's actually churning out money for SE. Without ff14, SE would be long dead. So this isn't even about supporting the game, it's just about making SE shareholders richer lol. I honestly can't believe the mentality in this thread that you are looking for and supporting more ways to make rich people richer. Your mentality only hurts the consumer at the end of the day as companies look for more and more ways to make extra money for those shareholder dividends.
SE is certainly not some indie company that is working their asses off to release and update their games with nothing but dust in their bank accounts. They didn't even invest in new servers when they could have early last year (when it was only a 6 month wait for servers and networking gear) when the player population was increasing which resulted in lost sales as they had to halt all sales of FF14 over one of the best periods for games sales (Christmas) on top of the massive queues to login.
They won't even invest in more servers to support more wards for housing, hence why we have a massive housing crisis in the game.
Nor will they increase investment into the game. Where's the Hrothgar females? We only recently got the males for viera. Where's all the wearable head slot items for Viera and Hrothgar? SE could literally hire a few extra artists to spend their time going back through all the gear and making it compatible with viera and Hrothgar, but they won't even do that.
And you guys think they deserve even more money? Absolute joke.
This post can't be real lmfao
BUUUTTT IT IS OPTIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
All good : Diablo Immortal all things in the cash shop are optional - do you want the same concept in FF14 ?
No and thats the problem. Also "...but the customer wants it.." is not an argument because customers are not the smartest bunch especially in groups.
"But we need to support the GAME.." is funny and you did fall into the trap of big companys that make the customer their biggest defender. SE has financial success and FF14 is part of that. They earn with FF14 not the biggest numbers but a steady income that never stops, so its seems. They dont need you. Believe me or better look at the numbers.
Quick question at end here: How do you gain access to FF14 ? For me it is through payment or i cant play... weird AS IF WE ALREADY SUPPORT THEM.
These F2P games are a damning indictment of just how bad some of humanity is. Willing to throw money at low quality games for a dopamine hit.
OP fits into that category that perpetuate unethical and greedy businesses practices. Whilst businesses need to make a profit or at least break even, the only intention these businesses have is of getting rich(er) quick. Not to produce a high quality game and community surrounding it. This is why a lot of indie games have taken off over the last few years as they are made by passionate devs who just want to realise their dream game and entertain people. Some of them flop, some of them do incredibly well.
Tbh the "to support the company/game" argument when it come to squeenix always felt weird to me, if i spend money it's to get something i want in return, there is no ideology or emotion toward the company behind that.
Now sure i would love to see everything being available through gameplay, is it realistic though ? I don't think so : why investing ressources in something and make it available in game when you can charge extra money for it ? A good chunk of those item probably wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the cash shop.
And spare me all those sophism about that disgusting pile of shit that is Diablo immortal, the majority of the con arguments i have read so far are either non constructive condescending bs, off topic or from people with some strange doom prophecy complex. (emphasis on majority because there are still a few of them that are actually interesting to read.)
Lol, maybe you're a little kid who doesn't know anything other than microtransactions, or just ignorant of gaming at large, or maybe even a shareholder of Square Enix...
I know a few people that are running free trials and doing all they can do before subscribing because even the subscription cost for the game is a lot for them in their countries. And here's you promoting even more gatekeeping of content behind paywalls.
You disgust me.
just go back to F2P games, loooots or microtransaction there, your haven for sure ♥
