Tomestone weekly cap?

Kupo <3 when we run roulettes and get templated down in ilvl...does having better gear have any noticeable effect? Do the blue stats carry down somewhat or am I missing something? because if not the only reason to get top gear is to run savage otherwise kupo *shrugs*

Somebody said to me that secondary stats have a trickle down but I have never confirmed this..suppose its easy enough to test though kupo <3

Yes it may delay greatly the gearing process yet over time I can reach be at the savage’s ilevel wise without even bothering to engage with hardcore content + commit to 4-7 hours of static gameplay for Savage which I will never bring myself to such grind + it helps me to focus greater with irl sorts.

I am content with how it is & not rushed to gear up.

After all, isn’t glamour & housing the true endgame content?

does not bother me i have 4 jobs at 597 and now am working on 590 relic weapons have 4 so far and working on 3 more with 590 armor and accessiories and coins to upgrade 590 weapons.

Honestly I don’t think ilevel matters much if its 10 or 15 levels down & I believe it does get scaled or something.

I believe absolute-ilevel importances are solely for the hardcore minded folks that excessively seeks to excel at savages or beyond but for casual it matters little or very at all.

There is a stat-cap in every dungeon or raid.

Usually any gear that is above the dungeon/raid level will get scaled down to this cap.

I've got a perfect example of this. I was in one of the Crystal Tower raids. They are level 50s.
I was playing a Gunbreaker. Figure I was 70 or higher at the time.
So I was at the stat-cap for GNB while inside the raid.

I was jumped on by one of the other tanks for stealing aggro. His argument was that he was wearing "level appropriate" gear for the raid. Meaning something around 50.

I was barely doing any rotation, hardly paying attention. Never using Provoke or my ranged. And still stealing aggro pretty strongly.

Extremely annoyed they didn't raise it to 900. I can farm Savage for a chest piece, but I have to wait 2 weeks to get the tome one? WTF?!

That is basically what I can see from running them kupo <3 I was just thinking an incentive would be to give some perk to having great gear...nothing op just a slight boost maybe a 5% boost to certain things *shrug*

Time gate? I'm not so certain about that. I believe the cap actually incentivizes players to run content. If you miss the cap, you lose those tomes, and there's no way to get them back. What this does to casual players like me is gets me to momentarily abandon my current pursuits to hop into roulettes because losing out on the games current currency just doesn't sit well with me. I'd imagine a lot of other casuals feel the exact same way. If there was no cap, I would not run the same amount of PvE content.

Very similar thing happened when they removed the weekly cap on scrips. I stopped farming them. I quickly noticed how I didn't even need to be doing that. And I was just grinding those scrips for the sake of not losing out on a currency I'm not even using.

Same with current tomes. I use the augmented classical gear for max jobs. I don't run savage or ultimate so I don't need the BiS gear, and mindlessly grinding those tomes is not fun, or a good use of my time online. However, I do acknowledge that doing roulettes does help the community, so I still cap those tomes weekly. It's just a chore.

I agree with the idea of being incentivized to do more. The current tome (Aphorism) works as incentive to craft top level goods, which helps spiritbond your non-combat gear and gets you generating more of that materia.

Disagree. If you're trying hard you can hit the cap in 1-3 days. What's the point of running anything (casual) after that? There's no benefit at all.

These two statement (IMHO) are contradictory. First you say you're only doing it to not lose out on currency but then you say you acknowledge it helps the community. Which is it?

Like I said above, when I cap tomes, I stop running roulettes because there's no incentive to anymore.

At least with 900 you're guaranteed credit for an Expert (90) and beast tribes (15) a day.

The only effect your gear choice has above the item level sync is which substats your gear has, not the amount of them. Piety or tenacity over Critical Hit is not usually optimal. Materia does not count.

Ultimate, extreme trials, expert roulette, level 90 normal raids, level 90 normal trials, hunts, maps, quests and level 89-90 fates. You don't need the better gear for these, but killing them faster is nice and it's a flex.

I wouldn't describe it like this and this is not strictly true for the latest dungeons at level 90.

There is a Level Sync which is applied to any content below your level. Level Sync includes an item level sync to the maximum item level of the expansion it's from. The maximum item levels for 50, 60, 70 and 80 are 130, 270, 400 and 530 respectively. Leveling dungeons sync your item level to something slightly above those, such as 403, 406, 409, 412, 415 or 418 for 64-69 respectively.

There is an Item Level Sync which is applied to certain dungeons and story mode trials. If you are the same level as the content and level sync doesn't apply to you, you will still get synced to this item level.

We will experience Item Level Sync in level 90 dungeons to prevent them from becoming too easy later in the expansion, but it's not used for level 90 content with 8 or 24 people.

I think you're missing the point here. A time gate is irrelevant to casual players like me. The current tomes is not how I gear up my main jobs, so I don't even need them. However, I will still use them since I get them from doing roulettes. The cap doesn't serve to gate me from anything. It is seen more like something I am compelled to do because there is a cap.

How about this, it is a time gate for players who want to run the hardest content and get BiS. It's great that you don't feel gated by it but I imagine a good part of the playerbase does because it is part of the reason it can take 2 months to get BiS on one role. As for encouraging helping the community, I guess I am helping by running my 5 expert roulettes and nothing else to cap my tomestones.

I don't mind the time gate but I wish they would consider upping it to 900 a week right before the next patch (so, like now). Everyone who can do Savage has already done it or don't care about the gear, we will need to get new gear anyway in 6.2 so I don't see why they just up it now.

Stat bonuses would make it pretty sweet like “Leech HP or MP per attack by 2% or Haste speed increased gradually per stack by 2% & diminished when out of combat”….something like that!

You just gave the reason for the cap NOT being raised. :) People can either chill or they can now run any savage they like with no restrictions.

Maybe. But hard-core raiders have their progress halted more so by only being allowed one token, per instance, per week. Am I right about that? Or something along those lines anyway. If I use NM weeklies as an example, the weekly tomes cap has nothing to do with loot you can only receive once per week from these duties. IOW, tomes have no value in terms of obtaining the rewards from those duties.

Tomes are an alternate means to gear up BiS, and since players grinding them out week after week don't really need them to actively participate in their favorite content, I see zero gates. Not even anything resembling one.

Oh and I understand how players feel gated. The purpose of my post is to try and alleviate that. I feel players should run the content they want to, but also understand the importance of incentivizing the content they feel are a chore to do.

Let's be fair, it's another one of those archaic systems that needs to go. Time gating for what exactly? I thought the entire purpose of the job system was to be alt friendly. It's really not. The gear is 10ilvls behind raid gear anyway so you cant get best in slot unless you raid every week or wait a bajillion weeks for them to finally uncap the savage or release the odd number patch.

It's was absolutely miserable as a tank this tier having to wait 7 weeks to just get enough tomes for one job. Then there is also the case of the outcast melee Ninja. The only job in any role not to share accessories. For some reason it still scales with DEX instead of STR.

They need to remove the weekly cap and just let players work away. They cant get the actual bis straigt away anyway so they have to come back for Savage lockouts. At least let people have some semblance of fun on other jobs while we wait for no reason. Game has over 12 jobs to gear now. 4-7 weeks per job you're looking around 35 weeks just to get the tome side sorted.

My tank was fine. The crafted gear was enough for dungeons and EX trials. I casually picked up radiant to upgrade when aglaia came out just to make life a tiny bit easier.

They just need to come up with a better way of handling alt jobs. The time gating keeps population relatively flat throughout a patch cycle which is great for someone who plays casually like me.

My suggestion would be that the capped tomestones would be used to purchase a "license" to be able to buy a piece of equipment for any job. Then, you can purchase the actual equipment with the non-capped Tomestones. So, I gather 850 Astronomy tomestones and purchase a "Radiant Chest License" then I can buy a Fending Chest with the non-capped tomestones and maybe later on buy a Healing one, then a Casting one.

It keeps the overall "speed limit," where you can't quickly over gear a single job to maintain population while also giving people who play alt jobs the ability to keep all of their jobs geared at the same level, instead of needing to choose what jobs you gear up. Savage gear could be handled similarly, you get tokens to buy a license to use non-capped tomestones to purchase a piece of gear.

It's not only important from a population balancing standpoint, it's also important to keep players' power levels relatively close together. If you didn't have some way to time gate, you'd have PF groups requiring BiS to join 2 days after the tier drops.

The system ain't broke. It doesn't need fixing. It's been like this for years. Everyone gets a proper return on the work they put in. People need to let go of this idea that they're suffering just because they're not at the max, when they're not even doing the max content.

The time gate is there so that new content doesn't die too fast.
Consuming content is always several time faster than creating content. So this is a compromise in order to keep the content relevant (and the subscribers subscribed).

Two things about the time gate and limit on Tomestones need to be taken into account. First is that the top end Gear's only real use is for the current endgame. Nothing outside it be it MSQ in later patches or content unrelated to savage/ultimate/unreal raids/trials will barely require you to climb above MSQ. Second - Tomestones aren't your only source of gear. You can craft or buy from crafter or you can, you know, start clearing content. In addition to Tomestones youcan get Ilvl gear from the Alliance Raid (currently limited to 1 per week, yes). You also get a decent gear from Normal Raid which had its restrictions lifted recently. It's all up to you how you mix and match those methods.

The content dies fast regardless of gear levels. Savages are done in a week or two as are Ultimates. The "gear" inflation comes after the fact.

World firsts are not representative of the normal player base. Most people are not clearing savage, let alone ultimate in the first week or two.

Then use all the methods available to you to get that gear. At this point the stuff is balanced in its own way. Getting ilv 600 from savages is at the moment (as they lifted the limits) the fastest but also requires specific skills. Crafting only requires you to have materials or gil while Tomestones are capped but also don't require you to even touch the endgame content.

Rather than have the weekly reset it should have been so that it was just a cap of how many tomestones you could farm and each week that cap increased by the well... weekly.

That way late-comers or people who missed a week aren't screwed over, and people don't have to perfectly cap their tomestones each week because it carries over to the next.

Yeah I don't get that Idea. By Grizzly's mentality the Person who just hit level 90 should be able to accumulate same total amount of Tomestones as those that reached that point in the first week. Let's keep in mind that late Joiners already are in certain advantage. The gear slowly goes down in price in preparation for the new tier and if one wants to put in the effort the Savages are no longer limited in terms of loot making gearing up for next tier significantly faster assuming you can complete the Savage. And ultimately by the end of expansion when the cap will increase so any semi active player will be able to gear up in the preparation of the next one.

It's an example of the psychology behind the system working, that's all. Some people feel like they "miss out" if they don't do their daily/weekly checklists.

I went on vacation shortly after Tribe Quests and Custom Deliveries dropped and now I'm 2 WEEKS behind everyone else (Oh no!)! It's not a big deal if you look at it objectively, I'm still going to get to maxing them out, but it feels like those 2 weeks were "wasted" because there was opportunity that wasn't capitalized on. That's the psychology of the systems working.

I have to correct myself. It's more like 32 weeks for the life of the tomestone cap. I was thinking more in terms of when we go from the new crafted set to the rain upgrade.
