Yeah, just like some of the responses here.
Overflowing with humanity and empathy, truly.
Considering the amount of things on this patch, I am fine.
Is covid over? I'm pretty sure it's still here.
this patch looks pretty packed though, i dont think i mind.
Pretty sure they said 4 months + 2 additional weeks to accommodate for staff summer holidays + 1 week for the Holidays season.
You all realize that 4 months from the 6.1 release date is 16 August (due to that Monday-Tuesday release schedule), right? And that 16 August is in the second half of August?
Some folks are screaming like they announced a release in early September ...
I have a feeling Crystalline Conflict just makes up a bigger part of the time for that reason. You get to do more content, raiding, and dungeons every patch, but you aren't pressed for time if you want to climb to Crystal to get the corresponding rewards. Plus, assuming they're going to keep PvP fresh, there will always be an incentive to do PvP for the series Malmstone rewards / Adventure Portraits & Adventure Plates. It's much more achievable now due to the game mode. At least, that was the original intention of the series Malmstone rewards design at any rate.
Assuming that each season will be roughly the length of a major patch, there will always be new rewards per major patch cycle now compared to only the top 100 receiving a reward.
Of course, I could be just on copium. It depends on whether they update the rewards extensively in PvP before we can accurately assess whether having the goalpost extended will affect the game much.
INB4 they extend it to a full year between patches in a few months and the white knights still defend it.
Relax... there will be so many things to do in 6.18, while we wait for 6.2...
It's like, you don't want the game to make you do things, do you? It's better to have nothing to do and pay the monthly fee, than to have some content to distract us until a bigger patch...

If they're waiting for Covid to be 100% gone they're never going back to a normal schedule. The majority of the impact Covid is going to make is over, and it's just going to be something like the flu that we need to deal with from now on. The only reason SE hasn't gone back to how they used to operate is that they discovered that they prefer the Covid release schedule over the typical one. This isn't exactly unheard of either, many people who were forced to work at home or do other things due to Covid (which causes less productivity) have found that they prefer that lifestyle.
Ok. First of all, you are using the term "goalpost" wrong. A goalpost is NOT a timeline for the release of work. They harm no one by having to revise their release timeline due to COVID (which is NOT over, btw. We are still very much in the midst of it, which is evident by the fact that most national and international organizations are still recommending the use of masks and social distancing. [https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...evention.html] [https://www.who.int/publications/i/i...erim-guidance])
The phrase "moving the goalpost" means to tell someone that once they have completed x, y, z, they will have fulfilled the terms of their agreement, only to then say, "oh, no wait. Actually, you need to do this too." Basically, the person moving the goalposts makes it impossible for the other person to succeed in their task. [https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/...the-goalposts] It's manipulative and coercive and not at all what the devs are doing by revising their timeline for release.
9 posts and ready to call people white knights, bold.
Calm down, you'll get your new expert roulette dungeon soon enough.
One of these days it be 6 month then a year per a patch release because they keep raising it. Sounds like they better add more staffing for FFXIV.
Uuuhhhh, they need more development time and the team need to take vacations every once in a while?
You are a Knight of the Order of Culture!
Except for the times when life's forced me to stop playing, I've remained subbed. Even if I don't play but once in a blue moon, having the option to log in at any time is worth the price of two coffees a month. That being said, I've been playing nearly every day since 5.3(ish). The game's got enough to do that I never lack for goals to work toward; only motivation to do it. When motivation's low, I RP or don't log in that day.
When the time comes to get another pet, I think I'm going to name it Grass.
I miss Titanmen. :(
they will find a way. they are not smart people.
thing is ok get an extra month to it but give MORE content for this time. thing is we are not getting more but the same or less. we are by now get content for 3 month starched over 4.5 and by 7.0 i bet it be 6 month.
its over and for some time . its support Ukraine and praise aborts now
They also mentioned there would be a week added twice a year for during summer and winter, I believe. You really are trying hard to troll aren't you? You are really bad at it.
I share how you feel. In fact I agree with you but you must also understand there are tons of people Dr Fugazzi has scared. Remember Dr Fugazzi was the same guy who scared everyone telling them they would get HIV/AIDS if they touched a door knob. Also COVID was his winning horse in fact a FOIA request even found he made a march madness chart that would win for him and it was COVID. He also signed it. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E256SKmXwAIO51I.jpg
I work in Public Health I heard about COVID happening in China in early fall and it was scary because in mainland china they were welding people in their complexes so they did not come out. By the time March hit I knew there was not much to be afraid of but that was around the time when the left and right traded places on whether it was serious or not and it became political.
We are about to enter an election and people are upset we are being told we must suffer through high prices and low goods because we need to send more money to Ukraine. So believe me by the time fall hits with this contested election because one political party it looks like it is going to get the boot in Congress the fear will ramp up around the world and we are most likely looking at working from home again.
Square Enix most likely has workers who have the fear of God put in them by COVID so many are still working from home.
If anything Square is preparing for the worst and trying to keep employee morale high. Lets not jump on the most profitable division of Square Enix right now. Remember Yoshi P has kept away the Square Enix Ethics Department, (which sadly has not been sold with Eidos Game) away.
How many people are really worrying about the launch date of the next expansion when we haven't even gotten to the second major patch yet?
How can it be delayed if it hasn't been announced? Next expansion will likely be out in winter 2024. A little over 2 years @ 4 months between patches times 5 major patches. About the same pace as always.
Also, 3.0 to 3.1 was 6 months. We've always had some gaps. This is just looking for something to be mad about lol.
I'd happily give them years of radio silence if it meant they'd just axe the current engine, rip out the teetering tower that is the 1.0 code, and just recode/redo the engine from the ground up. If it means we can finally get all the QoL, Graphics, UI, and systems improvements we've been clamoring for, by all means take as long as you need. Anything to stop hearing excuses about why things are limited and broken.
Hell, make that a new expansion: FFXIV: A Realm Rejoined.
