Looks like (I knew this already) the animes I like the most, are not what most would consider best, but I like the ones like Last Exile and Serial Experiments Lain, but my favorite anime would have to be Haibane Renmei.

I loved Heroic Age, best mecha anime I have seen

Sci-fi miniseries that takes place on a remote space colony.
Trust me, Its worth the time to check out this short series.
Aside from Blue Gender...I haven't seen anything that comes close to this in originality.
The series is fast paced and doesn't waste time with a dozen episodes filled with lame cliche lines.
You sit down, watch 20 min, and want to know what happens next, I just wish it was longer(I think 11 episodes).

(episode 1 spoilers below just to wet the apatite... this is the first 15 min so your not really having much ruined)

Twin brothers are kidnapped,drugged and placed into an escape pod. Kids, like 11 years old. They wake up alone on the surface of the planet down below. Its a primitive planet dominated by man eating plants(the plantlife will uproots it self and chase you!). A brutal environment where the colony sends their violent criminals to exile/die. Ill end it there. You wont watch this series upset that you spent a day in front of the screen.

Yay, some other people mentioned Eureka 7. Great anime. Man, there are so many... here's a few:

-Fullmetal Panic
-Madlax and Noir (not the best written, but still fun)
-Deathnote (until the end where they screwed it up)
-Katekyou Hitman Reborn!

I'm an English teacher in Japan, so I watched the popular anime and read more popular manga so I could more easily talk with my students. They're much more willing to try and speak English if you talk about a subject they are interested in. ^_^

そうですね。たぶん１９９８年くらいアニメを興味になった。実は、12歳から武道をします。空手とか、剣道とか、柔道をした。それから、日本の文化を興味になった。今は30歳。大学で、日本語とアジア文化を専攻した。大学を卒業した後、JETprogram　に入った。

Naw, I live in Hokkaido, so water isn't a problem. And actually, the water issue was a bit overblown by the media. Levels only spiked for a day (and it was still safe for adults to drink). But thanks for the concern. ^_^

so was angel beats! thought to be best in the genre since clannad ;)

Xam d lost memory was probably one of the most impressive anime i ve seen lately the first episode is astonishing and the soundtrack is one of the best i ve heard for an anime ^^

Xam'd was good, and the ending had me asking questions, but I prefer Eureka 7 for soundtracks :D

I threw a marathon to pass the time while in the bitter clench of winter and watched back to back Claymore, Fullmetal, and Moribito (best opening theme EVER! watched it everytime!). I heard Bleach was good but don't know if its what I might like.
Vampire Hunter D was my very first anime, and I mean the one from 1985. Project A-ko I was obsessed with too and watched that one the other month for kicks after a long while. Very odd watching it as a grown up all these years later, but it was fun to watch B-ko's budding lesbian feelings for C-ko once again. Can't forget Evangelion. That s*%t brought people together back in the day.

God i pretty much love anything by Sunrise, especially mecha.

I don't watch that much anime but what I find I love. I'm just picky. I find my self really liking animes with a historical background (Kenshin and SaW, for instance).
