The housing excuse vs casual gameplay is not really valid;
Originally housing was not meant to be for individual players but for FCs, so if a specific player wasn't on, as long as someone else was the house is fine. The only reason we have personal housing is because the devs caved to player wishes.
So, yes, while that is on the devs, the player base has to accept responsibility for this. We wanted this, so we have to accept the consequences, even if the devs are ultimately at fault for what I'd say was a bad call.
So when people start dying from deep vein thrombosis and blood clots left and right because they had to sit there and do nothing but play the game.
It'll be WoW further sued and not FFXIV.
No, go away
Heh, they want you to play so badly that the game literally punishes you for not playing by being behind on timegated stuff and having to wait until they add catch up mechanics while even the catch up mechanics are timegated. Nah man, enjoy that you can take a week off from FFXIV be it for work or vacation, come back and still be competitive.
ITT another living testament that over the last 15 years, Blizzard engineered so called "lifers" via predatory game design that are now incapable to play video game normally and need to have their life defined by one specific game somehow.
There are a bajillions games out there, I just can't fathom these people when they say they've been playing WoW for 15 years and nothing else.
What are you even talking about? Or did you not read the whole thing?
I guess I’ll give the to;dr version?
>This situation only exists because the devs caved to player wishes
>Housing is not required for casual play (or any level of play)
At what point did I say housing was free? Or was that your misunderstanding?
this is bait
Cus he cares about our health irl. Even he says its okay to take a break and play other games and come back whenever theres a new patch.
This community, I swear.
Hey everyone, it's YOUR fault that S-E has such a limited housing system even though games with far less budget and popularity manage to have housing for everyone *and* with more options.
It's also YOUR fault that, should you not play the game within 45 days of having your house demolished, S-E just trashes every item you worked for.
I think it comes down to preferences.
Some people prefer a game they can no life for many years without running out of stuff to do, most likely due to the neverending grind or rng or something.
Other people prefer having a game they can play on & off whenever they feel like it.
It's just that generally MMO's try to keep players attention for a long time so they try to make them grindy, they try to make people repeat content over & over & over again just to keep people playing (and paying.)
I think it's a breath of fresh air in the mmo industry that a game doesn't do this. I think it's generally a good thing but i can see why it's not for everyone.
It's not Yoshida or SE's responsibility to babysit people's unhealthy habits, and, for that matter, if someone wants to spend 20 hours at a PC that's on them. I do personally take breaks from this game, but I do think this game needs more lasting content. On the matter of housing, I think it's probably even worse now if one was to lose their house, as the only way to get one back is all chance, supposedly.
And look at how WoW and FFXIV are doing now. FFXIV is doing great, WoW is in a steep decline.
I am pretty sure you are in a minority.Quote:
When I play an mmorpg I play it non stop for 10+ years without taking breaks and I am sure there are millions of players like me who think the same way. Majority of mmo players have no interest in single player games.
I play several MMOs - taking short breaks from each of them every now and then when I start to get bored, and returning after a while when my interest in the game has been renewed. Oh, and I do play single-player games now and then - as do most people I know from MMOs.
In the history of touching grass, no one has ever needed it as badly as OP does.
majority of mmo players don't play longer than 2 hours a day...
that's because wow's systems force you to spend so much time on them as opposed to ff14's which timegate you anyways, so you may as well play something else. if you got everything done in one sitting, what else are you gonna do?
I'm sure some keyboard warrior knows better than a multi-million dollar company.
I'm sure the developer of the companies biggest game has absolutely no idea how to run his PR and advertisement.
I bet Yoshi P hadn't seen the massive growth of his company and is glad you're personally looking out him.
/sarcasm
Imagine a world where people have the freedom to play more than one video game.. That's just crazy thinking right there.
Nice troll bait.
It's not damaging. It's actually healthy for both players and the game. Things stagnate when not exposed to new ideas.
This is why I also play Guild Wars 2.
Ion doesn't have to tell players to take a break, his elitist design of WoW has all but destroyed it so players are forced off it.

Do not underestimate some ... forces in big companies. :)
Cheers
Strongly disagree.
It's a way to avoid burnout. And it's SE telling us they are not going to make 'abusive content' designed to turn us into copium junkies. Rather, they tell a story, then they work on getting out the next chapter of that story. We complete the story, and then while we wait for the next chapter, we enjoy the rest of life.
But the mere fact that you mention that street corner Copium dealer Ian strongly implies this is just a troll thread.
so you think he should take the WoW approach and end up with a player base that hates everything about the game they are addicted to? ask anyone who plays, no one ever says they are happy playing WoW
hard pass on that. WoW and its need to be worshipped on a daily basis is what burnt me out on that job. and make no mistake, WoW is a job, you miss a day and you are behind. games are for enjoyment and entertainment. the leadership at WoW was so busy trying to keep people addicted that they forgot how make things fun.
if you have that much of a problem having fun, I am sure you can go back. when you decide to have fun again, FFxiv will still be here, and you can have fun again ^^
I was there 3000 years ago (well back in 99 anyway) in EQ. I think it was easier to tell yourself you didn't have to camp 48 hours the same place holder mob for a chance to spawn a rare mob that had a rare drop on top. The sheer amount of time investment needed was a barrier in itself.
WoW just refined the formula for hooking the player and the never ending treadmill. Imagine people hooked enough that they rerun the same freaking dungeon hundred of times for a CHANCE at a +goodener version of the same item they already have. At this point, Blizzard is not running an MMO, it is running a gacha game.
Doesn't look like it's done much damage to me...

Not bad. People seem to really fall for the WoW Player bait threads recently.
