Here's the thing, you can certainly continue to keep your hopes about SCH, but the thread brings valid and good advice: if someone does not like the changes to the job, and complaining isn't going to get through to Squeen, then the only thing that can be done is to abandon the job. Most people say to do that spitefully, but it really is the best way to show Squeen that what they've created isn't desirable.

So, like, does it count to level SCH for omni-90 and then abandon it?

What I miss is the transparency why they don’t use player feedback but rather make these dumb ability changes no one asked. Like the actual most and best change from ShB too EW is that the healer dps spells are only on a 1,5 sec cast time with a 2,5 recast timer and sage being a dps healer but then on the other side you have the other 3 healer getting tossed only the scraps. Like when the best change for your main healer job this expansion is a cast time reduce on your nuke so you can better weave and then you have the new abilities look so absolutely boring and I’m pretty sure all of them are even more abilities for healing you never ever gonna need anyway for 99 % of the content. And then on the other hand have the dps (except physical range) and all tanks ( except poor DRK) getting cool finisher and moves (like Paladin or all meeles) you just feel betrayed ( sounds bit over dramatic but that’s how it feels for me and playing healer for almost 6 years).

Fair enough, but consider the first part of my post: we've all been here before and recognize the signs, seeing a very similar "wait and see" attitude that we've seen in previous expansions. Your replies in this thread, thus far, evoke that same message (you can't possibly know what they're actually doing, as you have no definitive proof, so just wait and see). Only if, in the dev team's mindset, those who level up and play SMN to 90 get included in what would be considered the "active SCH population." Which I doubt, so I think you're fine to do that without giving them the idea that you're ok with the Job.

Nah, that shouldn't matter.
We don't know much about how they measure popularity / success of a job... except we do know one of their methods.
The devs have said one of the big metrics they look at for how well a class has been received is how many people make the expac's relic for it.

I understand where you're coming from, and now better understand where wires got crossed.
All I'm saying is saying "they have done X" (when we only have guesses as to what they've done) isn't helpful to the larger conversation.
I appolpgize for conveying this so poorly it's caused issues.

My first lesson in, "If you don't like what you see. Too bad. It is too late for us to change it." came when the original Mortal Kombat came out for the Super Nintendo, and the early screenshots showed the character Raiden was spelled "Rayden", and everyone was throwing a tiff about it. I believe it was Acclaim who actually addressed it and came out and stated that the game was too far along in the programming stages to change it, and there are deadlines that have to be met (though I think it was actually a legal thing they were not allowed to disclose iirc).

I bring up this little story from the Jurassic period because with just a little over two months left for EW launch, there can only be changes that won't set them back beyond the deadline. And I bring that up because despite how much you will hear and see, "Nothing is concrete". "Wait for the official tooltips." "Need to actually play it." not much is changing from what we saw. Most of it is set in stone, and most of the stuff they will do are final tests and finishing touches; so the rework SCH needs won't magically be thrown our way when we hear from them next in October.

It doesn't end there. A rework of a job takes many, many months of development. There's meetings, debates, outside sources brought in. All matter of resources are summoned involving art and music teams, animation, programming/debugging, all kinds of testing etc. What this means is that for us to get a rework of SCH, they would already need to be working on it; and due to their comment, this hits the SCH main who is aware of this like an anvil. It means that they don't even acknowledge there's a problem with SCH! And if you look at it from a numbers perspective, which I think they do; they will not see a problem with it. Like others have said, I think the only way they will see it, is when they see that no one is playing the job any more.

So forget 6.0, and you can also forget 6.1. We are looking at 6.2 at best, and that is if they acknowledge the issue with SCH yesterday. I already haven't touched my SCH in months, and that is not changing anytime soon. My SCH is not retired. It is on strike.

As a newer player that's still in the process of leveling up and getting through the main story, the only thing I really feel that Scholar lacks right now compared to the other two healing jobs is more single-target shield/healing abilities that don't cost the preciously limited resources. Keeping a weaker tank alive under heavy wall-to-wall damage can easily make me spend all three Aetherflow stacks on healing in a matter of 5-7 seconds, and Scholar's wonky Adlo-Physick GCD healing loop sure feels a lot less effective than the Cure 2/Lily Cure 2/Benefic 2 spam that WHM and AST can pull for such a situation, barring extreme luck with Adlo crits.

Since they're evidently getting that issue worked on in Endwalker with that oGCD shield they've shown in the job trailer (it's right before the infamous Combat Peloton™), I'm probably going to be playing Scholar more, not less. Just my 2 cents.

Stop overhealing, start DPSing and you will see how redundant GCD heals are. Also, according to the game's design, it is not your job to keep double pulling tanks that eat AoE and don't use mitigation abilities alive. This becomes even more apparent in savage where the tank gets one-shotted if they don't use their abilities. If the tank wants to pull more than 3 mobs they should also accept the fact that they are expected to press something other than their AoE.

By "spend all three Aetherflow stacks on healing", I, obviously, meant that I was using Art of War on cooldown and using the free weaving space to use my Aetherflow abilities. Unfortunately, no real group of mobs in this game drops dead after 5-7 seconds of combat, or gets even close to dying in that short time span.

It's pretty hard to overheal people whose HP bar often drops 25-50% in a span of one GCD, and I can't exactly always pick the maximum performance groups for my Duty Finder roulettes, so the fact that Scholar is performing significantly weaker in such a common situation is a noticeable detriment to me enjoying playing it right now.

It's still pretty fun to play, but I see this as an area that needs improvement, and improvement it shall hopefully see in Endwalker.

if WHM and AST are with poor performing tanks, I assure you they will fare no better than SCH.

AST probably has to use Essential Dignity(only has maximum of 1 charge below 78) after the first Gravity. Then AST has no other powerful single target heals except for GCD heals combining with Synastry . Celestial Opposition and Collective Unconscious only help so little on tanks that don't know what they're doing. Based on your description, that tank cannot even survive until Early Star finished charging.

WHM indeed has more options, and maybe can get away with it more easily than SCH and AST. Asylum, Divine Benison, Tetragrammaton, Lilies, and even Benediction. Though with a tank that bad, I assume WHM cannot generate Lilies fast enough and eventually have to spam Cure II.

I think we have to blame the right person. You're a healer, not a savior. You can save players who make mistakes, but don't bother saving suicidal ones. The problem is the tank, not scholar.

Your SCH is Lv.60 so the tools available to it are less than other healers at that point. All you have is Whispering Dawn, Lustrate, Sacred Soil, and Adlo+Physick. Indomitability and Succor for AoE. Maybe Dissipate for Aetherflow stacks and heal buff. Later on at Lv.70 and Lv.80, you will get abilities like Excogitation, Sacred Soil will have a heal-over-time effect, Seraph healing/shields, Fey Union tether healing, etc. For roulette type of content, the amount of Physick/Adlo you have to use is very rare, even with wall-to-wall pulls.

Name a dungeon level 45+, I will run it with SCH, record it and send you the link so that you will see how little GCD healing is needed. So little that it would be better if they are turned into oGCDs. I will use Duty Finder to queue for the dungeon.

I guess you're right about Astrologian, since I didn't actually level it up, but White Mage has an additional advantage in the form of 7 whole seconds of Holy stun that very significantly decreases incoming damage and has allowed to get by with some effort even against paper tanks. Though it also depends on whenever the DPS are doing their jobs (which they usually do, with very few exceptions I saw so far).

I guess that could be part of the issue I've had, yes. From what I've seen, a good amount of jobs in this game have some pre-designed level ranges where they're just weaker than the others. Like Dark Knight pre-70.

One thing you may have trouble reproducing is that I was also somewhat undergeared, since I was running content at my own level and getting my equipment from the dungeons (with exception of getting Augmented Ironworks at level 50).

I would, though, like to see how little GCD healing you could get away with while running Snowcloak or Dusk Vigil, just for curiosity's sake. Some of the mobs there hit *very* hard.

Dusk Vigil with three people from duty finder. I used Aldo three times during combat and I told the tank to pull. Succor and Physick were not used at all. And in this dungeon, I don't have Fey Union, Seraph, Dissipation, Excognigation, Recitation.

Pretty much this. If a tank is doing their job right, Adlo is mostly used between trash pulls to give them a buffer to allow you to dps more while your fairy figures out it's time to start healing.

That's pretty good (o/). Especially considering the repeated failure to escape Whirling Gaol/Winds of Winter by the DPS at the last boss. I'm surprised none of them have died despite all those vulnerability stacks!

I guess that video also shows the main reasons why I like Scholar in dungeons, despite all the Holy stun advantages of the White Mage - it is very mobile and can easily adapt its healing to the situation at hand, as long as it doesn't run out of Aetherflow/fairy skills.

Maybe they hate the 2 jobs per class thing ACN has going and are sabotaging SCH so fewer and fewer people play it and they can remove it entirely with no backlash.

They certainly have done that to job actions and features in the past.

Don’t call it removing……. Call it balancing the healers or we don’t know what too do with scholar or just play sage lol. I mean it’s nothing new that they don’t know what too do with healer at all. It’s the same for almost 6 years now and it this point I think it will be until the end of the game but there is one good think, I can tell my kids too not touch healer in this game if I ever get any……..

Lvl dungeon I ever did. Big pulls really hurt badly

I guess maybe it’s an outlier then. It’s one of the few dungeons in which wall-to-wall pulls I always end up spamming Cure/Benefic 2/Adloquium.

If tanks rotate mitigation CDs properly its not too bad. But that’s a big if. You need two decent ones up on the big pulls due to not having gear to outscale.

Bardam's Mettle is a huge outlier for some reason. It's the hardest dungeon in the game by a large margin, although that isn't really saying much of anything.

I'd say it is an outlier because it punishes you for just mindlessly pulling everything. Bardam has something that basically all max level dungeons lack, actually dangerous trash.

Take the birds after the 1st boss for example, the big one has a randomly cast mini tank buster that applies a heavy DoT to the tank. On it's own not much of a problem but if you pull it together with the stone golems or, god forbid, the trash pack after it then you're in for a bad time. If you don't immediately nuke the big bird then the other trash mobs can whittle your tank's health down right before they get hit by spike damage.

Another factor that adds to this is the level it is designed for, which is right around that point where your level 60 ilvl 270 gear loses it's effectiveness but before you can get your next big gear upgrade from Doma Castle.

Yeah, Tank gear sees a massive increase in the early to mid Stormblood. To break down the gear at various levels:

• Level 60 - Augmented Shire - 2,291 Total Defense
• Level 61 - Sirensong - 2,272 Total Defense
• Level 63 - Shisui - 2,291 Total Defense (equal to Augmented Shire)
• Level 64 - HQ Crafted - 2,599 Total Defense
• Level 65 - Bardam's - 2,907 Total Defense

So, Augmented Shire gear is equal to the level 63 Shisui gear, and both of those have 19 total Defense over the level 61 Sirensong gear. Then there's a massive increase of 616 Defense from level 63 to level 65 which means unprepared Tanks get absolutely shredded because you know no one is sitting there thinking they actually need the level 64 HQ Crafted gear. It catches a lot of people off guard, but it is still possible to do wall to wall pulls.

Makes me wonder how the stat squish will affect balance in Bardam's.

Don't think it's true at all, since the time they affirmed the game got enough healers being played, that just prove they don't care at all.

As I said in an other thread, they just need to delete the scholar from the game, so we stop being dissapointed and they can use the time they spend at every expac on scholar change to something else, like getting a coffee because I doubt they ever spent 5min on scholar. They probably took more time to add the scholar typo and picture into the live letter.

I mean I did a super pull on SCH in Mt. Gulg going from the start to the 1st boss and you basically live at the 2k MP threshold, the only issue was I didn't have any post 2.0 ethers on hand only the 100s of Elixirs I have accrued over the course of my 8 years, but pulling off that super pull with randos proved to me once and for all this is HOW the Devs see SCH, it has the #'s to pull off some amazing feats and that's why it can never be fun because it will never get that closer look most jobs get because most other jobs usually flag behind on #'s for their roles which is what the Devs use to clue them in that things need to be changed. And don't worry I made sure to tell the tank Thank You for humoring me (as it was my proposal to do such large pulls all throughout) and that to not view that run as a "typical" run. They chuckled and agreed with me and said it was really fun to do for their first time. I would have comm'd all 3 randos if I could but the Tank definitely earned that one.

Bardam's Mettle and the 73 MSQ dungeons were the only dungeons that pushed me as a healer but it only ever lasted for a couple of weeks near launch, Bardam's and the 73 dungeon and the 59* and 69* dungeons; are why whenever I can give new tank player advice, its that while possible to use the prior expansion's tome gear for a good chunk of the following expansion's MSQ Dungeons they need to pay very careful attention to the DEF values of their gear by the time they hit the 2nd Dungeon of the expansion in question because by the 3rd Dungeon they're really going to feel it. In fact that only holds true for 4.0 because by 5.0 it's the 2nd dungeon that really lets ya have it and you only really feel it if you super pull and CC the buff bot enemies properly. It's led me to believe the reason we won't see any increased heal checks unless they make Tanks more squish and they'll never do that because it's the role with the most anxiety attached to it hence why aggro is where it is now for Tanks.

For the last 2 expansions now I've had the distinct pleasure of Tanks (rando tanks) super pulling on my 1st runs during launch/early access and it's the only time I feel remotely engaged as a healer the way I did back in FFXI, it's nice but it never lasts especially as I learn the dungeon. Healers will remain in the unenviable position of never really pushing their class to their limits with any frequency because it takes a lot to go wrong before we even feel it.

*Healing the near lvl cap dungeons with a tank in full ironworks or full Shire's does get you to take things slower (can still go fast but it will feel like launch window with how dangerous everything suddenly becomes).

And don't worry I made sure to tell the tank Thank You for humoring me (as it was my proposal to do such large pulls all throughout) and that to not view that run as a "typical" run. They chuckled and agreed with me and said it was really fun to do for their first time. I would have comm'd all 3 randos if I could but the Tank definitely earned that one.

I am assuming you are talking about this but with real people from DF.

Scholar is not the only healer who can heal the first gate-to-gate pull in Mt. Gulg.

When you take into consideration the fact that 95%+ of the GCD casts go for Holy/Gravity and the other 5% for Regens when that pull is split in two, you can come to the conclusion that the other two healers have a lot of free time to heal massive amount of incoming damage. They can heal that pull as well. It is not a feat only scholars can do.

I know it's really easy to meme on SCH right now because the trailer and explanation didn't really give us much.

The speed increase is actually pretty crazy good when you think about it in oh shit situations and fights where moving back and forth quickly happens on the regular.

I just think SCH tool kit is really good right now I just wish I felt less janky and had smoother handle of messy situations. I feel on WHM I can press a few instant skills to fix a bad pull or a bunch of people getting hit by avoidable AOE. While SCH has that, there's no shield equivalent until I swift cast Succor and that kind of sucks. And the big heals and modifiers being stuck to limited aetherflow feelsbadman :(

Don't be offended by what i will say but ... 'shit situation' in a timelined fight game ? If you are going in those 'shit situation' you are calling, don't think your team will ever try to pack to receive a buff speed unless that skill doesn't take range in consideration but just applying it to the party anywhere they are on the arena.

In DR normal, 24-mans and even in dungeons, people get hit by dumb stuff all the time. If I can stop them from falling over and dying from their own mistakes, that feels good to me.

I'm not talking about 8-man pre-made groups or competent players. However a movement speed buff does let casters spend a little extra second finishing those casts safely before moving - myself included.

Don’t take that wrongly but I think even when you have a speed buff for the party people still gonna get hit or worse they overshot the safe spots because they don’t think about getting a movement bonus at this moment. The problem with a movement ability is that it doesn’t help you remember or play the mechanics that could one shot you, like i said if you don’t know what too do anyway, a move speed ability won’t change anything. Also for like 99 % of the content 1 sprint every minute is normally more then enough because after these mechanics there is always a bit of a downtime (a lot) so it’s gonna be back up again for the other really movement heavy mechanic. I actually think sage his dash is a better movement ability the this aoe peleton. You can port too the boss or too a party meme ber every 45 and with the new 1,5 sec cast time for all healer it’s easy weave able.

the speed buff is honestly good for keeping uptime. if you have to cross the entire arena while slidecasting it can be useful. take e9s brambles into anti air for example

Delubrum Reginae, hmm. DPS gets hit by something and loses a bunch of HP, and you heal them back to full. So they're able to make another mistake without dying right? Oops, they got Doom because they got hit again. Looks like healing them was the same as just letting them die to the next hit.

DR is where I honestly feel the most useless as a healer by far. Well, it's a tie between that and Matoya's Relict.

I didn't mean to imply only SCH's could do it, in fact the other healers can do it better cuz they don't have to sacrifice as many DPS GCDs the way I had to, but it just was a moment when I realized this is how the Devs probably see SCH, thru this lens. And it's dumb that they do b/c it doesn't allow them to see how clunky it is despite having performance like what I described. That was my only point I wanted to get across and my apologies for being unclear on that front.

I'd 100% rather take that pull on my WHM than my Scholar any day. Hell, I've openly told tanks when I'm on WHM to do it because I know Holy Stun is simply that strong.

Meanwhile the few times I've done it on my SCH, the tanks generally are hemoraging HP and I don't have many high powered tools to get them topped off.

Excog is a one a pull tool. Lustrate hits like a wet noodle when players have 150K+ HP and is limited to 3 times (2 if you use Excog, 1 if you put down Excog and a Sacred Soil). Adlo barely stops the bleeding.

Keep in mind that this is already going to be significantly easier due to the cast time reduction that all healers get, slidecasting to a specific position on AST is a joke and it's going to be a joke on every other healer as well come Endwalker.
