If we can turn the bubbles off, I don't mind.
I like your signature. Reminds me of a lyric from a really old French jazz tune called 'Folimagination' by Olivier Bloch-Laine:
Tout est flou, dans ma tete. Rien n'est vraiment blanc, rien n'est vraiment noir.
XIVLauncher is exactly what you are looking for.
As long as we can turn them off sure
As someone who RPs and hops around venues, chat bubbles can be pretty critical to keeping your conversations heard and not instantly flooded out. Think 30-40 people emoting and typing at once, and it's okay because the people you're trying to pay attention to advertise their little bubble directly over their head. Not like we have it at this moment where you make a post aaaaaaand it's gone. :)
It's not something that's critical to me, but neither were fellowships...
If some ppl want it as a feature then ehhh... I don't care if it's implemented as long as there is an option to turn it off.
Thankfully the modders do Yoshi's team's job for them so we can actually have these basic features. Cool to see if someone is actually talking to you, especially those sprouts asking for guidance
Nah just keep them out of here. I dont want to be having to toggle them off/on every time i go to a populated area, and being unable to see anything becaue of gil spammers/rpers/limsa denizens.
Why not just leave them toggled off then? For those of us who don't want them (yes that includes me) it's basically a one time option toggle and everything works as it did before. People who do want it get a QoL improvement.
I don't get why people are opposed to there being options.
I dont see how is it a QoL improvement when you can look at chat to see if someone's talking to you? After all, the only certain way you know someone's talking to you is, by either a TELL, or saying your name.
I don't care, so long as it's not hard to implement (and thus could potentially take dev time from something higher priority) and I can turn them off. Zero interest in having chat bubbles in the game for myself.
They already have rendering limits and stuff. I imagine half the bubbles wouldn't be shown. And they'd be overlapping so bad you can't read them anyway.
This game lets us change so much stuff off the default that I find it hard to believe the chat block is diffcult to read. Heck the options for that block is insane, I've never played another mmo that gave me that many options. I have my block set up that you have to try to not notice anything. Only shout, say and yell are in general, battle is only for my group content. And yes that means I turned off the data cause I don't need it. Event is only for FC chat so only FC chat is on that and I made a 4th one being for Tells and system info. I NEVER miss a beat unless I'm away from the PS4 and even then I can still catch up.
This is the reason I don't think we need chat bubbles all over the screen. If SE puts them in the game let me turn them OFF and leave them off. Because I hate mess on my screen. Hell I spent 3 hours setting up my UI so NOTHING is needlessly on my screen that doesn't need to be.
Y'all really thinking that if it got added it wouldn't be a toggle í ½í¸‚
Would be great for group content. I honestly can't be bothered to check chat every 5 minutes to see if someone has an opinion, note or AFK announcement. If it appears in a bubble in my immediate view, though, much better chance It'll get noticed in a timely manner.
Aren't there addons that enable chat bubbles? It'd be nice to have it officially, though.
Coming from PSO and PSO2, I would certainly enjoy them, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Not least of which because it would lead to a lot of visual clutter in high-pop areas.
Not trying to be mean but that makes you look either extremely lazy OR someone with an ungodly size tv... what do you play at a movie theater? It's literally a quick click of the eyes to the left. Hell you can even split the box apart and move each box to a different part of the screen.
The chat box is on the far bottom edge of the screen. In general I already have a hotbar full of CD's, a party window, a minimap and an actual fight to watch; the chat box is low low low priority.
Depending on how they work you can often choose a position to place offscreen chat bubbles, and since they're temporary and click through they'll never get in the way like a chat box does.
I do have a pretty big tv and monitor I play on, but even that's beside the point. The chat box is just inconvenient and unimportant. I honestly only really look at it at the beginning of a run and if something is off; like I see a party member lagging behind on the minimap.
I wouldn't have any issue with adding chat bubbles though I would never use them. The only criteria I would put on it is the default is no chat bubbles unless you explicitly turn the feature on.
I have a big tv too. You can resize the box to your liking too. My point being chat bubbles aren't needed when we have the tools to make the chat box everything you need and want it to be. The issue I noticed is people don't actually look at what you can do and instantly say we need X instead.
Break the TOS I've seen it on youtube so there is a mod for that.
There's a lot of people in this thread (who have been playing much longer than I have, from the look of it) talking about how they might miss stuff in the chat box directed at them, or they miss things in party/Alliance chat because they're too focused on what's going on. That doesn't have to be the case, though, and you don't need chat bubbles or third party tools to fix it! It's right here, in the Character Configuration settings:

You can set up sound alerts for certain chat channels, including party and alliance chat. Very helpful for dungeons, I've found; there's been a few instances where I've been focused on tanking, and wouldn't have noticed a message in party chat if it weren't for the sound alert prompting me to look over and see what was said. You can also get alerts if someone emotes whilst targeting you!
Granted, it doesn't do anything for /say (how could it, really) and I know that I'm only speaking from the experience of a new player, but it doesn't seem that /say is even used much. Most of the time, if I see something in that channel it's either an RMT bot, or just two/three people speaking directly to each other. 99% of public chat that I see going on between folks is through /shout or /yell.
Pretty much what I've been saying. We get a godly amount of tools for this. It just takes looking around and a bit of reading and boom. And thats not even half of it. Like I mentioned above, you can make the actual chat block what you want it to be, put what you want in said box and make the channels to your liking. It's almost endless.
maybe we shouldn't be allowed to chat at all.
I miss this a lot from other MMO's too.
I tried all this when I was new. Do you know what the chorus of Hell sounds like? Sounds like your neat little notification sounds all chiming at once. Screen flood is the issue some of us have, and adding a SOUND to it is actually WORSE.
Not to mention you can't just easily scroll in your chatbox. If you're not holding the button down, it will snap to the newest line every time someone else inputs something into the chat.
You can also move the box to any part of the screen you want it to be, and also change the size od the box. You can even split the box apart by channel. I say this as we already have options, just mess around with the settings and you'll get what you want. We don't need bubbles all over the screen when we already have the tools for what you're asking for.
And this option is only bad because we already have ways of doing what people are asking for. To read chat easier. I honestly think people just want bubbles because insert whatever game here has them. And these people never bother to actually mess with the settings to see if they can make the chatblock easier to begin with.
Again, that's great, but this isn't that. Chat bubbles would float above the head of whoever says it, they don't even compare. You could easily see the target who initiates speech in a larger crowd too, just because you can move the chatbox around doesn't make up for this functionality. Also plenty of games have this functionality, having more options is not bad, sorry. It's unlikely the functionality will be added but it's not a bad thing to request it.
Chat bubbles are fun... I remember them fondly from WoW. Though of course it should be something you can toggle.
