It's just hats and hairdos. Good lord. Everything else works fine.
Unfortunately it’s a big problem with this community in general. People are fine being spoonfed by SE and will accept anything they do and constantly defend every action they take no matter how bad. I strongly believe it’ll be the death of the game at some point because people just go around like blind sheep.Community pushback is very rare and i was genuinely surprised by the Male Viera and Female Hrothgar fans actively taking a stand. If only they would do that more often.
I've seen similar glitches with Miqo'te too, and their ears float in a similar distance than of Viera... and the caps, bandanas, etc, all float a little above the actual scalp, if you compare some images... It's just that Viera ears would need different kind of holes.
Of course, point hats, for example, defnitely would be really hard to work because their point would clip upwards. I mean literally bandanas and caps, they can be workable just with the holes.
Worst mistake they ever made was adding to Viera to this MMO. Why do you want hats if you are supposed to be a bunny? It is LITERALLY a race made from playboy bunny's. The entire point is the ears and nice figure. I seriously thought all the feminist would get more upset by the prior things vs not having the equality of a hat.
To be fair, I don't think he's necessarily wrong about such being the inspiration behind their design...
The addition of male viera has allowed the race to move away from that stereotype somewhat, but let's not forget that Yoshi-P himself is on record stating that he would be reluctant to add them because, in his own words, 'a male rabbit might be kind of weird'.

He's since changed his mind and the interview in question is from 2013 but still...
I want to know why they thought tying hairstyles to faces on Hrothgar was a good decision.
Forces players to buy fantasia if they want a particular hairstryle later on.
Not gonna hand over 35+ dollars, taxes included on all the purchases and resubbing, every time on name changes and fantasia's when I want to play around on another character. My alt Rupert Faradae wouldn't be caught dead wearing long sleeve clothes. My alt Brandon Sharpe wouldn't ever go without masks. My main Allison Amelie, previously Alvaro Rivera (fantasia'd and name changed because there is no job in the game that fits his theme anymore), wouldn't ever go parading around in hats. Sometimes I want to play certain jobs and wear certain pieces of glamour but they do not fit certain characters. Not gonna play anything aside RDM or MCH on Rupert, as nothing else fits his theme. Not gonna unlock or play tanks or MCH on Brandon, not his thing. Not gonna unlock GNB or play melee jobs on Allison, not his thing.
I suppose I'll just be taking that 35 dollars elsewhere and spend it on food or on games that aren't as laughably restrictive when it comes to alts. Certainly not going to spend it on this game where you run of out crap to do endgame and getting alts through ARR is the biggest chore. Especially when a lot of other, far more entertaining, games are being released in June and July.
As for the reaper thing...that's pretty obvious.
Scythe attacks
Voidsent oGCDS
Player+Voidsent is just that "symbiote" mode that I assume is a dps burst phase.
It reminds me of Berserker Guts, Hollow Ichigo, Eddie Brock/Venom and what have you.
I'm looking forward to learning more about both Sage and Reaper and what lies beyond what they've shown us.
I’m hoping for them to give more info on sage. Seems like they just devoted a lot of time to explaining Reaper and all we got for sage was “augments self attacks and shields”
So... reaper was inspired by Death Note and Bleach, and not Bloodborne then?
Mostly, this an interview given in Japanese, translated to German, then translated again into English by Reddit.
There really is no guarantee that the subtext you find "ignorant" is a fair translation of Yoshi's words. After all, do you really ever expect Yoshi to say "Short answer: No?" In fact, if you run the article through google translate, it doesn't even say that, This is more like Reddit inserting shit.
What he says, according to google translate is:
Completely different to what Reddit said.Quote:
Yoshi-P: To use the term alt (note: alternative character), in Final Fantasy 14 we want to make it so that players don't need alts. In Final Fantasy 14, there is a feature called NewGame+ that allows you to replay story sections you have already experienced. So even if the character's progress is already in the latest update, they can go back to A Realm Reborn and play here, for example, or even replay the entire Heavensward scenario. All of this can be done with the simple press of a button.
Of course, we also understand that players will want to change their character's appearance from time to time. For those players, we have the Fantasia potions that allow you to change the appearance and race. We offer this as a service to all players who are interested. We also understand that there are players who like to create a new character for role-playing, for example. Here we have the adventure stories where you can skip content and jump right in where you want to. And as I mentioned before, I highly recommend using the NewGame+ mode. This is a very quick and elegant process that every player should try.
It's all of them lol bloodborne is for the artifact gear.

I mean, none of those are new. Except the unfortunate mention of Bleach as part of the influence.
The ear base isn't actually as big or as long as it looks there, the cut-outs in the hairstyles look like this (normally they're bald spots and not filled in, but this is the only image I could find showing the shape) everything around it is just fluff from the ears and not actually part of the base.

You have no idea because you don't read what Yoshi P says. The man himself said it will take a massive amount of resources to make them. And even more once they're added. They're now working on female hrothgar. So good luck waiting for headgear till they're added and probably an expansion after adding them. And don't bring up COVID card, the pandemic only caused a delay, not a cut in content. They probably started working on the males since 5.1, which explains the decline in the amount of content since then. Bojza was even delayed to 5.35. So yes, the addition off male viera has caused loss of content and female hrothgar will cause even more.
My personal view on the matter is that I'd have strongly preferred the existing playable races to be revamped with an expanded character customisation system and improved textures. I keep joking to a friend that some of the new housing furniture looks a lot more detailed than the likes of Highlander men, especially where their faces are concerned.
It was common enough feedback over the years, too - but for whatever reason the development team decided to add not one but two new playable races at the same. Not only did they do as much, they ended up having to add the missing genders in addition because naturally when people only get half of something, a lot of them want the full thing.
The situation would probably bother me less if it weren't for the fact that at least two rival MMO's have completely revamped their character customisation fairly recently and there's a couple of upcoming MMO's on the horizon that allow me to design a character more to my personal taste.
It is what it is, I suppose. I guess only time will tell if the older playable races will get some more love and attention...
That's actually really too bad. I would rather have had mixed race(s), like Hilda (Elezen/Hyur) - which would probably have no limitations.. than viera in this state. That sort of mixed race would not only be popular, but I also doubt they'd be limited. They'd get hairs and hats just like everyone else, plus look cool. A proper elf race. What could have been..
They add viera/hrothgar, then it feels like they completely forget about them. No updates, limited. Then they add in male viera - who will be just as limited, and then they are going to add another beast race gender - that probably won't be able to change their single hair without fantasia. While I like viera, I really question if it was actually worth the resources spent and will ultimately be spent on maintaining this race.
For example: Now instead of just creating hairs that everyone can use, they are making hairs that everyone else can use. On top of that - eventually - hairs that only viera can use, then, supposedly, new heads that male hroth can use (have to fantasia) as a substitute for hairs, then, again, heads that only female hroth can use!
Out of curiosity, which two MMO's would those be? I may very well have to go take a looksie if it's one I've played in the past.
That's the real pain for me as someone who would normally play an elf in any MMO that has them on offer. I'd love to have something like Hilda. Clearly elvish yet a lot less jarring than the Elezen and their strange, off putting (to me) proportions.
World of Warcraft and Phantasy Star Online 2. The former already updated its character models once before in the past, though opted to do so again more recently and to a more significant degree. PS02, meanwhile, completed overhauled its graphics across the board in a manner similar to the 1.0 to 2.0 transition.
Now, I have no intention of playing either as they're not to my tastes - but I still keep track of what options exist on the market and it bothers me quite a bit that FFXIV is beginning to lag behind on such fronts.
I typically play elves as well. That and humans. I've actually always preferred midlander in this game, but I don't like their run animation. A custom player elezen/hyur really would have been nice.. I assume they'd have been way easier to implement and maintain than viera.
As an aside, hrothgar would have probably still been added regardless, as they fill that 'beast race' niche, but perhaps if it would have been a mixed race instead of viera, more resources would have been freed to do them justice. Yes, I admit to being biased. I would have also always preferred to have an elezen/hyur Hilda race. Probably even over a more properly done viera. Pretty sure I've stated so before as well.
Honestly i cant even be mad at that answer, its not even greedy, and ure right, fundamentally the game is anti-alt friendly, people forget FFXIV is still a bussiness but /shrug
sometimes i wonder if people are mad because they really are mad or because they FEEL like they should be
The real reason is probably both the engine and the standard meshes are still the ones from the 1.0 with better shades. They probably think the extra work that compatibility needs doesn't worth it unless they update both the meshes and the engine. If they plan to make the game runs ten years more (at least) as some other editors, they will do an update, but most likely not before the 7.0 or 8.0... Unless they plan a new generation MMO to replace both FFXI and FFXIV and to make it cross platform.
The short reply is : in order to avoid too much clipping and make the game runs faster, you delete as many subsurfaces as you can. The more your bones and meshes are standardized, the less works it requires to update hairs, weapons and other gears.
If a new character is not compatible with the standard, you need to make specific mesh. They added new races only because many players asked them.
That's why you have many MMOs with job lock, gender lock, race lock.
These answer are not surprising because its all about money. It wouldnt be hard to make purchases account wide or implement an option that you can skip msq on a new char for example. But that would make them lose a lot of profit, for buisness its better if people just suck it up and buy stuff 2, 3 or more times, also if new chars could skip through everything that could maybe affect dungeon ques for new players and of course they dont want to change the fantasia addiction its a big money generator for them, i know people who buy fantasia 3-4 times each weak and look complete different each time.
At the end of the day Yoshi and Square are just another business company that want you to spent as much money as possible on them and not your friends.
Is it just the translation, or did he just completely politiciandodge the hairstyle issue by focusing entirely on the hat thing?
I don't mean to sound ungrateful, because the fact that they're addressing these issues at all is good, but it sure would be nice if we got dev responses for both questions asked.
Us, healer, is a third-class citizen. We don't even get our special mount like a tank. ¯\(°_o)/¯
There's no new healer for 2 expansions straight. And now that it's coming they don't even get mentioned.
This feels almost like being a middle child. You only exist when you fail. XD
What I said was: "breathtakingly greedy (or ignorant)". The parenthetical was me being charitable. While Google Translate's version is phrased much less aggressively it skews far more towards "greedy".
Businesses would love to squeeze as much revenue from customers as possible but amazingly customers aren't so agreeable. Consumers have this very bad habit of taking their money elsewhere when the value you provide isn't worth the payment you demand. The even have the temerity to give their money to your competitors when they feel they get a better deal or even feel that you've disrespected them.
tl;dr: Remedial Business Basics says: Sacrificing long term customer relations for short term profits is a fantastic way to not have long term customers.
Just throwing that out there that he was WAY more elaborate in the interview than what was given in this thread and I hope that OP rewrites his opening sentence because now it seems like yoship doesn't give a damn about this topic when this is far from the true. He even said
"For this topic alone I was in a meeting yesterday and next week we will have another meeting about this topic. Players can be rest assured that we are actively thinking about it and I hope they can wait a little bit longer. Hopefully soon we have some good news to tell."
Also I dont know who said this was org in japanese, source said it's from buffed themselves and they held it in german.
Alright. That's a bit reassuring, at least.
Yoshi-P is a fairly competent developer for the most part, but at times it feels like he's under some ridiculously strict embargo to not discuss certain long-standing issues with the game (cough egi-glamour cough).
And it really doesn't help that Shadowbringers was clearly made under massive financial pressure from SE.
Not really a direct comment to you, but that part made something click in my head.
Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong. but didn't he mention at some point that he didn't want to talk about things that aren't certain as if they did people would expect things and when it perhaps didn't turn out as he previously stated people would get upset?
If that is the case then I can understand why we don't hear about stuff more often than we currently have.
I haven't been around long enough to catch a pattern, how much do they usually tell us about the new jobs?
I don't remember them saying too much about DNC/GNB, especially when those jobs were 6 months out the old interviews I'm finding are on the same level of "augments self & has shields" and "fights with friend & build meter for combo attacks."
But yeah, it's a big shame the interviewer didn't think to ask about both upcoming jobs : (
Especially since one job's development just clicked, and the other had a more involved development process... you'd think they'd have fun things they'd wanna say about the job regardless.
Yeah I honestly dont know why they designed them that way. Why did they decide that it was okay, that Hrothgar players would need to buy Fantasia to change their hairstyle? Also what about their words that Viera and Hrothgar would get unique hairstyles in exchange for them being so restricted? Where are they? And Shadowbringers was released months before Covid even started, so its not like they had no time there either...
I imo could live with it if they simply said that the old hats would never be changed so that the two races would only get the new ones. But I will never really accept that these two races cant even wear hairstyles that some had to buy with real money...any hairstyle that comes out and is given as a direct reward, is part of an event or costs real money now to get should be wearable by every race.
Go read the original article (use the translate button on your browser if you have one).
With the Digital Fan Fest firmly in mind, Reaper was obviously the more newsworthy Topic for the Interviewer. The questions are those of the publication. Yeah, sure, be disappointed that no direct questions about Sage were asked, but blame that on the Interviewer, not SE.
